3741  Economy / Speculation / Re: What if trading in Bitcoin was your source of income? on: March 19, 2018, 06:05:59 AM
What are the effects of these days dips for you as a trader?

Understand that you're not just making money when bitcoin is going up.

Trading isn't just profiting off price rises. There is also a possibility for shorting bitcoin when the circumstances suggest that bitcoin may be tanking further. So traders may either be stocking up more coin on a lower price point, or shorting their coins, or potentially just holding it out.

You don't lose money until you liquidate your position, as they say.

Dips happen all the time and are usually a result of the market panicking. Most experienced traders will expect and take advantage of these dips. But it's unwise for anyone to do trading full time as their only source of income, unless they've got massive capital.
3742  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Genesis mining just collapse? on: March 19, 2018, 05:21:42 AM
I heard on a gambling website when someone on their chat room from a person who has been telling of the formations of bitcoin's ups and downs announced that genesis mining went under.
Any truth to this speculation statement?

I am not with them so can not log in to an account to verify this is true.
From what they tell their customers in a news announcement usually when you log into the site.

No confirmed report of it going under. Yet.

I do think that it's suffering from some regulation, which is good to see. But it's only from the state of South Carolina that their regulatory pressures have been coming from, and nowhere else have shown any tendency to regulate cloud mining yet.

I think this will change in the future. And genesis could be hard hit by it. Right now, all the contracts are sold out. IMO it doesn't mean much and i think it's them trying to create artificial demand for themselves.

But regardless of any of this, whether it's going down, Genesis is not a good investment. It could be a ponzi scheme, it could be running on fractional reserve, who knows. And even if it's legit, you're not going to make a profit by investing in it. It's a trick for the noobs.
3743  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bullion79.com - Precious Metal Dealer | Bitcoin to gold | Always in stock on: March 18, 2018, 07:24:52 AM
Dang, i literally just ordered some silver coins with apmex. Next time i'll definitely keep this site in mind while buying precious metals.

When Apmex shipped my silver coins via UPS, I received a call from them saying that i needed to pay a customs clearance charge even though all my coins were investment grade and no GST should have been incurred.

Would your site be able to pay this, or will i still be liable for this debt?

Also, i find your pricing a bit too pricey, Apmex is currently selling eagles for less than $21 even without any bulk volume discounts. You guys are selling at $27.5 per coin. There's also literally only 3 coins you're selling, is there any chance that you'll have more options?
There is no need to pay customs / vat within the UE if you buy at our website.
Thats the thing. The coins are more expensive in Europe because someone needs to pay the VAT on the border.
In this case it is us. Also, there is a cost of processing bitcoin payment, that increases price of our products.

Right okay, what is the "UE"? You mean the EU or the UK?

I'm located in Australia, so would I still have to pay VAT and customs on my order?

I honestly see no advantages of using your service instead of apmex which is pretty much the world's largest physical bullion dealer online, who also accepts bitcoin through Bitpay payment processing. Plus people are probably going to trust APMEX's products more than you and appreciate the wider variety of offerings. Just some things to think about.

BTW, saw the buybacks, does the 3% margin buybacks apply to only products you sell or any products as long as it's real?
3744  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: A list of scams found 2018 (upd march 17) on: March 18, 2018, 07:05:09 AM
It's a good idea but the list will be infinite...

New scams will pop up all the time, way faster than people can update it.

One of the biggest scams that are still running is hashflare, in my opinion. It literally altered people's contracts so that they can end up paying less to contract holders by reducing the lifetime contracts that the users bought to a measly 1 year term.

Though they haven't actually refused any withdrawals, their withdrawal minimum has been adjusted to a figure that is way too high to even make a withdrawal at all if you invest a small amount.

Good luck with this, hopefully you can keep this updated. But the best thing to use is common sense, as you said. If you're not greedy you won't get scammed in the first place.
3745  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: CLOUDBET JUST BANNED ME AND WONT ALLOW ME TO WITHDRAW on: March 18, 2018, 06:50:56 AM
Hello, I had 2.5 BTC in my betcloud account, yesterday after posting a sportsbet they left it at pending and the blocked my account and wont allow me to withdraw my BTC claiming I had opened several accounts to benefit with bonuses

It's got a history of doing that, cloudbet.

And in their terms and conditions they've definitely got clauses saying that they are able to lock your account and retain your deposit and whatever if they even "suspect" you of multi-accounting. And it's hard for you to prove them wrong if they do "suspect" you.

Sometimes I just feel like if you are going to shut accounts down anyways because you pretty much know that people are going to abuse your bonuses, why not just not have bonuses in the first place?

Anyways, you will need to talk to cloudbet... I think that their support tickets actually work fairly quickly when I last used them(in 2017). Be prepared to make sacrifices like foregoing your winnings or whatnot, though. I would avoid using cloudbet in general, specifically if you may be connected to someone else via IP, or you're planning on claiming a bonus.
3746  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Any way to receive payments through card anonymously? on: March 18, 2018, 05:47:22 AM
Hi Guys,

Is there any way through which my clients can make the payment by using their credit or debit card and i receive the money as bitcoin.
The reason why i am asking this is that few of my clients are filling chargeback even after getting the product or service and my payment processor is giving problem right now.

Thank you,

Anonymously? Not a chance. Not with a payment gateway.

If you want to deal with 0 chargebcaks then you should just demand bitcoin straight up. If they charge back with their credit card, that's their problem and not yours. But I doubt that anyone would be able to facilitate these kind of high risk exchanges in the first place apart from shady vendors on paxful and LBC charging tons of premium.

But that's the only way for you to make sure that you are receiving payments anonymously. Disconnect yourself from the card part entirely, let them do the purchasing or whatever and you just receive the bitcoins. That's how bitcoin is supposed to be used.
3747  Economy / Speculation / Re: Copper - the forgotten hedge against inflation on: March 17, 2018, 03:50:26 AM
For several years I have been saying that copper is a good additional metal to hold as part of a diversified portfolio. It doesn't seem to have attracted much attention, although there have been a few instances of people selling copper ingots as investments.

The money GPS has just produced a video which raises the topic of copper as a wealth protection metal.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pI8XK-VZbs

I believe that with the new Belt and Road initiative, and various other projects, copper is likely to outpace gold ( but probably not Bitcoin Smiley ).

Well, I've got my fair share of invesments in metals.

I haven't diversified into copper simply because it is extremely hard to store and move around. Plus the premiums you pay on these things make it sometimes unfeasible as an investment. Sure you can hoard it for SHTF situations, but unless you trade copper etfs online instead of dealing with physical copper, you're not getting a liquid investment.

I agree that copper seems to be a great investment at the moment, especially with metals generally stabilising, but we don't have many channels in which to go through to get to this opportunity. You need basically storage space(a ton), you need ways to cash out, there is a higher floor for efficient investing... If you want to invest in physical metals, stick to gold and silver. They will still perform well, especially silver as a hedge against inflation, regardless of whether it is outperformed by copper.
3748  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin bubble 'just about to burst,' major money manager says on: March 16, 2018, 05:04:26 AM
This current bubble has bursted, doesn't mean that BTC won't get pumped in the future.

The person here is literally just reciting what he is seeing, it's not a prediction. The crash already happened. There has been a 60% or so reduction in price since the all time high of bitcoin in December last year. If that's not a bubble bursting, I don't know what is.

Bitcoin will be useful well into the future, and people will start to find it as a real way to store their wealth.

I'm a long term believer in bitcoin. The current crash could go lower, but it won't affect how bitcoin performs long term, just like the 2013 bubble which everyone thought was the 'end of bitcoin'.
3749  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Spectrocoin.com doesnt work on: March 16, 2018, 04:51:36 AM
Yesterday i have tried to log into my account at spectrocoin.com. but the site does not work. only the home page lodes . Non of the other links are working. Thereby can not access the wallets or funds.

Has anyone else experience the same problem?

Everything works fine on my end.

Could it be possible that you may be on a phishing site instead of the real site? Switch browsers and see what happens, because both me and Tyrantt seem to have absolutely no issues with their site at the moment.

Just a heads up, though. There have been some shady dealings in the past involving Spectrocoin and they did get a negative trust for it, and they seem to disregard privacy as well. So don't use them with large amounts, and don't use them unless you are happy with being fully verified.
3750  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Browser Mining Problems on: March 15, 2018, 09:41:55 PM
I have not actually encountered any browser mining sites myself, or maybe it's just that none of these sites have ever notified me about their secretive mining operation so I never took notice. Undecided

This is not different at all from stealing. They are making money from your resources without letting you know.

I agree, a list of all the sites that are known to secretly mine with people's hardware and power without letting them know and consent should be put out in public.

Thanks for the suggestions for the chrome extensions. It'll sure be a good idea to get them, especially with the rising popularity of Coinhive.
3751  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why we may be stuck in the current range for long on: March 13, 2018, 11:37:15 PM
As I've stated previously, don't expect a lot of price movement out of this year. Most likely we ain't going anywhere, just staying put between $7k-15k. I'd be surprised if bitcoin breaks that lower support or the resistance. And only if it does move below or above those figures will the markets start to become super volatile like last year, whether in the upwards or downwards direction.

Of course we've tried to break $12k two times now, with no success either time.

If we do break 5 figures again which I think we will soon, $12k will be the immediate resistance. If we can't break it a third time then we may be going lower. It's a huge resistance that has been building up, and actually strengthening due to psychological reason as well because of the failed attempts of breaching it, but it's not impossible or impenetrable.
3752  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Prices In India Is Higher on: March 10, 2018, 07:14:37 AM
Experts claim that demand outweighs supply in India, pushing the Bitcoin price in the country up to 20% higher than international prices.

Some Indian e-commerce platforms have started recognising the digital currency as well. FlipKart and Amazon are already giving customers the option to convert Bitcoin into regular currency and purchase goods with it.

So there is huge demand and this can cause some problems in future so caution is needed when investing as any moment govt or RBI may ban it.

Anything that can be traded without any tariffs or restrictions on the international markets should carry a premium in India.

This is due to RBI's foreign exchange controls. I'm not 100% sure what exactly they are, but I know that they exist and which is why the market is willing to pay a higher price for bitcoin or altcoins within India.

It's a bit like China, where BTC prices are inflated as well sometimes compared to overseas, due to the fact that citizens can only exchange up to $50k USD worth of foreign exchange per year from CNY and BTC acts as a gateway to get capital out.

Not surprising, though. Been a trend since India started trading BTC. Nothing to speculate on either.
3753  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Balance gone on tradesatoshi on: March 10, 2018, 07:09:13 AM
Today I deposit BTC to tradesatoshi. Now suddenly my balance is gone!!
yes I have 2fa , and no I didnt got hacked. There are no withdraws or trades done.
The btc shows on deposit history but thats it. No balance, no withdraw, no trades.

Screenshot all proofs first.

Screenshot everything including your deposits, withdrawals history, and your trades history.

Run the calculations and see that if you should have ended up with a surplus balance in your account, instead of a 0 balance. If yes, then start a new ticket on tradesatoshi and let them know that something has gone wrong.

Most likely it's just a bug. However, since they're not the most trusted exchange, you could be dealing with a pretty difficult case here. They could claim that you got hacked, which is why you should screenshot everything before you go to their support.
3754  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is There Any Cyclicality in BTC Prices on: March 10, 2018, 06:48:53 AM
...

I have long wondered if there are any exploitable patterns in BTC price, like lower price (for example) late on a Saturday night in the USA.

I certainly understand that any obvious patterns will be picked up by trading bots as well as alert human traders, but perhaps there might be structural reasons for prices, on the average, to be a little lower or a little higher (eg, fewer people worldwide active at certain times, etc.).

My *guess* is that there are NO such patterns.  If there are such patterns, my next guess is that they would be small, probably hard to exploit...

The *reason* I started this thread would be to gain any insights as to when might be a relatively good time to buy BTC.

Thoughts?

Depends on how long of a cycle you are talking about.

If you're talking about years then 0-1 year after halving is where most gains in BTC price are made. And then year 2-3 after the block reward halving is usually when the market is overall quite bearish, just like this year and probably the next year as well.

However if you are talking about a shorter amount of time, like days, then I'm not sure.

There are people out there claiming that BTC prices generally crash over the weekend and recover throughout the week. There is some evidence for this but it doesn't mean it'll continue forever since we don't know what the cause for this is. You could try to trade this but it's a gamble if you invest for the short run.
3755  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why is Bitcoin price tanking down? There seems to be no respite in the pricing? on: March 09, 2018, 08:00:19 AM
Is it due to new SEC Rules passed for Excahnges or are there other reasons attached to this fall?
Any idea when should one start investing more and when can we see an upward spike?

So apparently there was this issue with phishing on binance which caused people to sell or buy tokens that they would not otherwise have bought voluntarily. And that caused a panic on the markets because people suspected that binance was compromised at that point.

Why aren't people over that yet? It was some trading bot AFAIK which caused that and since then binance reversed the trades and are saying that other than api key nothing is compromised. Seriously can one mishap of one exchange cause this level of dip in bitcoin?

Because there are also other factors, it's not just binance.

But at the end of the day it's because people love to panic sell in these situations. When you see a sea of red on every single 24h movement of every crypto, including bitcoin, you're definitely tempted to sell. And the news with SEC actually haven't affected any exchange in the US as far as I know, people are just trying to predict the future without any consideration.

Prices are stabilising at around $8.8-9k and has been there for a few hours now.

It MAY go down a bit more before starting to consolidate at its bottom, but the bottom is close for this one for sure.
3756  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Exchange with lowest BTC withdrawal Fee? on: March 09, 2018, 07:18:22 AM
You should definitely add a format for new additions. E.g.:

Code:
Exchange name:
Exchange URL:
Updated bitcoin transaction fee:
Source:

The initiative is great, I think. But it's not going to work updating an image all the time. It's better to have text in the OP and just update the text every once in a while with new additions coming in. Editing text is simpler than image.

And yes, Bitfinex, Bittrex, Kraken, Bitstapm, they're all missing from this list.
3757  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin withdraw Suspended in Binance exchange on: March 09, 2018, 07:05:15 AM
If you have Binance Account with coins in it. Check it right now as there is a reported hack ongoing Check your accounts to be sure your coins have not been sold nor withdrawn.

BINANCE AANOUNCEMNT
We are investigating reports of some users having issues with their funds. Our team is aware and investigating the issue as we speak.
As of this moment, the only confirmed victims have registered API keys (to use with trading bots or otherwise). There is no evidence of the Binance platform being compromised.
Please remain patient and we will provide an update as quickly as possible.
Withdrawals are temporarily disabled at this time.

What are the steps to protect your Bitcoin from hack in an exchange platform?
What have you done to your account to protect it?

Your positive answers will be appreciated.

This just proves that even the most trustworthy exchanges can have problems.

And the best choice to make is always to store your funds off an exchange. Whether you are a trader, long term accumulator, or even just storing a part of your portfolio in crypto that you would like to sell off in a few months.

Nobody can predict what's going to happen next to an exchange, you can't control it either. Whether it's your fault or the exchange's fault.

In this case, even otherwise unaffected users in terms of the phishing attack/hack are being affected due to bitcoin withdrawal being suspended. And no longer can they make transactions temporarily, which really sucks. Wouldn't have happened if you had your money in a private key that you had custody over.
3758  Economy / Exchanges / Re: bitfish.nl scam? on: March 09, 2018, 06:53:13 AM
bitfish.nl,  I saw their website wich looks okay,  but a big flag for me it was when  i saw they asking for their bitcoin card  0.05BTC wich means over 400USD.
Someone know anything about them?

Their site doesn't even work. Did it work when you first got on to it?

If they're charging $400 for a bitcoin debit card while still charging you for deposits, withdrawals, and loading of the card then it's basically a ripoff that you shouldn't even consider looking at. If you're willing to get verified there is a ton of other options available. And they usually are free, or just costs a couple of dollars or at max, $100 which is extremely high already.

Also, since I've never heard of the site before, I would definitely not use it as it's clearly not a major BTC debit card provider.

Always a risk of your funds getting stolen by their company once you deposit. No guarantees they won't do so.
3759  Economy / Lending / Re: $95k in fiat or BTC - 3 months - great collateral on: March 09, 2018, 06:50:23 AM
Illiquid, but much higher ROI. That being said, would it show a greater level of confidence if the multiple was higher?

All in all, the banks don't understand much about domain names and given that this is a virtual good - I figured this platform would work well.

Unfortunately the only universally recognised collateral on this forum would be altcoins, or precious metals that is shipped physically to the lender. These are pretty much the only liquid assets that people actively accept.

The thing is that people would rather take security and liquidity over ROI in a loan this large.

$95k isn't something that anyone can offer you, a bank couldn't even offer that to you if you didn't have any valid collateral(property, etc.). And people are unsure about how much your domain resells for or whether or not it can be reversed back to your ownership.

This combined with your 0 reputation gives you absolute 0 chance of finding a loan here. I'll repeat a third time - please lock the thread.
3760  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: ❗ Beware of scam related to Binance CEO impersonation ❗ on: March 09, 2018, 06:38:55 AM
If they are really binance wouldn't they just send compensation money to their customers directly instead of having them send them money first and then sending back a larger amount? That essentially consists of a investment scheme which I don't think they're even legally allowed to run, even though it may seem like a giveaway.

Anyways it's obvious that it's an impersonator account. Reporting the tweet will do its job. And the CEO of binance literally has the "not giving away crypto" part in his name as a warning. Anyone who falls for must not know how to read.

Also previously, I saw a similar scam with a yobit twitter impersonator, doing the same thing, claiming to be giving away from coins but in reality scamminsg people.
