Was this a new wallet, and the Electrum client generated the seed?  Or was the seed from some other source?



Did you download the Electrum software from electrum.org?  Do you still have the old laptop, can you extract the hard drive from it?



First eliminate any potential mistakes you made, scrutinize the works to make sure you got them entered correctly.  If the issue persists, on the page where you enter the seed phrase, click on the "options" button.  Check the box labeled "BIP39 seed."  That will get you to the page BitCryptex posted.  

That may or may not get you to the wallet you expect, but it's worth a try.



I thought so too.  I just tried to restore a random Bip39 seed, and Electrum won't let me click the "Next" button without selecting that option. 

You sure are brazen to come here and levy accusations of scam.  Why don't you handle your own scam accusation?  Until then your words mean nothing.  You have no ability to protect anyone as you claim, and the service you're promoting in your signature is ineffectual at best, but more than likely you'll use it to scam even more people than you already have.

I'm not convinced by your evidence that the account changed hands.  Just because he speaks Indonesian doesn't mean he's not in the San Francisco area.  I live in the bay area myself, and I can tell you there are plenty of immigrants here that come from all over the planet.  A password change is also a weak argument, in my opinion. 

I hate to put people on the spot due to mere suspicion, but if you feel he's using his account to promote a shady project or a flat-out scam then you should present evidence of that.  Whether the account has changed hands or not becomes immaterial at that point.

If you do have your seed, you would be able to restore your coins with either brand of wallet.  The only difference is were you enter passphrase.  The good news is both Ledger and Trezor are having a 30% off sale for Black Friday.

To be honest, I don't blame him for not wanting to disclose his wealth, but I'm coming at if from the opposite position (I think.)  I value my privacy, so I'm not here to boast, claim to be rich, or brag about 900BTC (one can only dream.)  But he strikes me as the kind of guy you see pulling out a fat, impressive wad of cash to pay for a beer at the bar.  When I see guys like that I think to myself, that's probably all the money he has in this world, lol.
