381  Other / Meta / Re: Why don't DuckDuckGo and Bing show bitcointalk results? on: September 01, 2018, 07:05:34 PM
commands like
site:name - inurl - allurl- etc are google commands not Bing
I see, thanks for letting me know Smiley

It might surprise you that that isn't the case. Bing's market share is roughly 30% in the US compared to google & other search engines.
In fact it does surprise me. I found this source http://gs.statcounter.com/search-engine-market-share about worldwide search engine shares, but I see now that bing's US share is much larger.

So, yes bing could be be an important traffic source after all.
382  Other / Meta / Re: Why don't DuckDuckGo and Bing show bitcointalk results? on: September 01, 2018, 06:35:07 PM
Interesting. With bing.com I tried what the OP suggested and for any search terms like this: "bitcointalk + anything else", or even this: "site:bitcointalk.org + anything else" I always get the home page of bitcointalk.org, no matter the search term. Probably no one uses bing for anything important these days so it doesn't matter. Their market share of bing compared to the other search engines (google essentially) is something like 3 percent.

384  Economy / Services / Re: Selling YouTube Channel with 35,000 subscribers | 6.4M Views on: September 01, 2018, 03:52:31 PM
It looks like the channel has 3,814,355 total views, and recently you are getting sub 100 views per video.... Am I missing something here?

It seems that only the recent videos are crypto-related. As you pointed out, they receive fairly small number of total views. Some of his older videos happen to be very popular, but unfortunately they have nothing to do with cryptocurrencies.
385  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto to be abandoned on: September 01, 2018, 10:20:19 AM
No, crypto is just getting started. Sure, a lot of shit-coins will be abandoned along the way, but they had it coming. I believe less than 10 percent of the current altcoins are going to survive in a couple of years time.

There are only so many examples where the blockchain and the associated cryptocurrencies can be used. After the dust settles, the winners will remain, and if you are holding alts, you just have to make sure you are on the winning side. Hint: if you are not sure, stick with bitcoin.
386  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Aurumcoin increase 6000 percent today on coinmarketcap on: September 01, 2018, 10:06:24 AM
Did you check the 24h volume? With such a small volume, the increase you mentioned is not a very good indicator:

Source: https://coinlib.io/coin/AU/AurumCoin

Then again, just to be clear, they do have a small total supply of something like 300,000 coins.
387  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: For staking: Do you use one wallet per coin or a multicoin wallet eg MyEtherWall on: September 01, 2018, 09:26:31 AM
As per the title do you download the wallet developed specifically for the coin you want to stake or a multicoin wallet eg Jaxx or MyEtherWallet?

Can you stake in a multicoin wallet? I could be wrong, but I doubt that. Even if you could, why would you do that? Download and install the normal wallet, and you are good to go.

Which one is safest to run on my computer 24/7?

Neither is safe if your computers is compromised. Make sure you have a reasonably safe environment or a dedicated computer for staking.
388  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: So surpridsed ! Bittrex delisted BTG on: September 01, 2018, 09:17:29 AM
The delisting is related to a double spending (51%) attack on the BTG network that happened some months ago.

The BTG organization published this statement:

Quote
We regret to inform our community that the crypto exchange Bittrex has decided to de-list BTG after we declined to pay them 12,372 BTG to remain listed.
[...]
Bittrex announced this decision today based on a double-spend attack they suffered back on May 19th, despite all our efforts to assist them, and despite the fact that the danger is now over.
[...]
Bittrex informed us that they make this decision because the BTG team would not “take responsibility for our chain,” and that taking responsibility meant paying Bittrex 12,372 BTG to cover the loss they incurred.
[...]
Source: https://bitcoingold.org/statement-regarding-bittrex/

You can read the entire statement, but essentially they claim they can survive without Bittrex.
389  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH To The Moon . . . ? ? ? on: August 31, 2018, 02:31:30 PM
I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but

best wallet? - yes
No wallet at all. You can't say that MEW is a real wallet, can you? I tried once to install a desktop wallet for ETH and gave up.

best blockchain ? - yes
You can't compare it with Bitcoin's blockchain, not even close. (BTC hashrate = 1.8 ExaHash vs. ETH hashrate = 3 TeraHash, data from February 2018[1])

fast then BTC? - yes
I'll give you that. But one of the obvious reasons is block time. BTC block time = 10 minutes. ETH block time = 15 seconds.

390  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Margin Trading on: August 31, 2018, 01:33:17 PM
I don't use margin trading because IMO it somewhat resembles gambling. That being said, I know that some non-margin traders use the signals collected from margin trading to short or long their positions on exchanges.

If you want to learn more about margin or leverage trading, here are some threads you might find useful:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4320063

P.S. If you are a newbie, don't get into margin trading straight away. Start with "normal" day trading, or long term investments.
391  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: B.Sc. Thesis: The threat of altcoins for Bitcoin's supremacy on: August 31, 2018, 01:10:46 PM
I believe that bitcoin supremacy is not threatened, not in any significant way. Probably the main challenge is to identify where the strength of Bitcoin lies. And the obvious, or not so obvious answer is in the Bitcoin network and the people taking care of it. Look at its hash power, its stability, its uninterrupted operation.

Contrary to one may believe initially, Bitcoin's main strength is not in the code. Because the code is open source. Anyone can copy the code, change one or two things, and proclaim new coins. This we have seen in the past numerous times, starting with Litecoin, and so on.

I struggle with direct comparison of some coins. Those largely based on the original BTC code (BCH, LTC) are rather easy to compare,

Sure, they are easy to compare because they are just a copy of BTC with minor modifications. But again, they don't have the strength of the Bitcoin network and its developers.

but with some, I struggle (EOS, IOTA).

They cannot really be compared, because their modus operandi is different. They have traded the decentralized, distributed features of bitcoin for a more centralized solution with increased transaction speed. But then again, we already have Visa if we want high throughput and high degree of centralization.

It’s pretty interesting to read the whitepapers (although it takes time as I study finance and not computer science...) but I can’t believe that there isn’t any material or comprehensive list out there where people compared the coins in terms of capabilities, speed and so on and did what I’m doing right now.

I haven't seen any that will contain a significant number of coins. There are lists, or something like infographics comparing 2,3, or several at the time. So when you have successfully compiled this list, don't forget to share it here.
392  Economy / Services / Re: Fidescom LP British Company Invests $ 400 000 in Bitcoin Marketplace Porto on: August 31, 2018, 10:10:10 AM
So according to the article, they have bought 20 percent of shares for $400,000. It is a pretty modest investment, if I may say say. On the other hand, both companies seem to be relatively unknown. Or, at least one can say so judging from their relatively small internet presence.

In any case, I wish them good luck. Especially because they are trying to develop bitcoin related service for the people in Africa, which is very commendable and deserves support.
393  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Am just a beginner please help on: August 31, 2018, 08:15:10 AM
For now I use Binance/Cryptopia and CryptoBridge.
I was also going to suggest crypto-bridge.org but then I didn't know how confusing (as a DEX) it can be for a beginner. I've never had any problems with it. It has always worked great for me, especially for trading small, lesser known coins. To be fair, some people report various issues with CryptoBridge. On the other hand, I did have some problems trading on Cryptopia in the past. Like inactive coin blockchains, withdrawal issues, etc. After a period of waiting, everything was eventually resolved. No exchange is perfect. That's why I thought trading on binance would be the best choice for a newbie.
394  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: My 100x-1000x bet in a year on: August 31, 2018, 07:26:49 AM
What exchanges ?

Currently I can find the following exchanges (with rather low liquidity):

  • TradeOgre
  • Crex24
  • SouthXchange
  • Stocks.Exchange
  • BiteBTC
395  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How many Master Node can be set up in a pc? on: August 31, 2018, 07:11:49 AM
Both are great services if you're looking to go the route of a VPS, DigitalOcean doesn't allow mining on their VPSes and will ban/suspend accounts for doing so IIRC, but besides that I've never encountered an issue with either service.
I have also hear of DigitalOcean being strict on mining. But running a masternode has nothing to do with mining. Or at least it shouldn't be CPU intensive, which is the main concern VPS providers have or care about. In any case, they may not be able to discriminate between these two things. So I agree, one should clear this out before going with them. Other than that, my experience with their service is also great.
396  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: My 100x-1000x bet in a year on: August 31, 2018, 07:00:15 AM
So, can you tell me does masari have ASIC resistanc just like what has already implemented in the Monero? I guess moneo has a big problem caused by asic miners in these days.
So many monero fork coin and what make you call that even better? I just curious abuot that basically all of them have the same specification.
As far as I can tell, Masari has switch to a new variation of CryptoNight called CryptoNight Fast:

Quote
CryptoNight Fast (CN-Fast) is a new CryptoNight Variant developed by Masari team. To mitigate potential attacks and to reduce centralization issues Masari forked at block height 204,000 and replaced CNv7 with CN-Fast algorithm.
Source: https://coinguides.org/masari-mining-cn-fast-miner-hashrate/

I'm not an expert in these things, you can check the article for more info. As for how long this new algo variant will remain ASIC resistant, we can only speculate. If Masari gains on popularity, a new ASIC is probably just around the corner.
397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How many Master Node can be set up in a pc? on: August 30, 2018, 09:40:24 PM
Does anyone here knows which VPS hosting has good price/services for nodes (Horizen, Smartcash...)
I'm currently using digitalocean, but strictly for web hosting. I've never tried hosting a masternode with them, but it might be possible. The cheapest plan is a $5 monthly plan that includes 1 GB of RAM and 25 GB of space. I have no idea whether this is enough for your MN coin of choice, but it might be worth checking out.
398  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Am just a beginner please help on: August 30, 2018, 08:44:51 PM
What exchange is the best to trade on?
I'll second the other posters here suggesting that binance as a good start. At the beginning, it is better to stick with only one (binance) until you have learned the mechanics of trading. In terms of liquidity, it is also one of the best, so you as a beginner won't have any problem with smooth trading.

Please if you have any long term token to buy, thanks.
That's anybody's guess. I try never to listen to other people when it comes to buying tokens. Learn how to conduct your own research before buying a token and in time, you will perfect your skills.
399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is TRON trying to take advantage of Venezuela's situation? on: August 30, 2018, 08:29:04 PM
The tweet was kinda insensitive I think, maybe that's why he deleted it lol
Indeed, you don't want to pitch your offer to dictators, no matter how good or beneficial it might be.

With regard to TRON, he was pitching his crypto as having faster technology when compared to Ethereum (2,000 vs 15 TPS). But I don't think that the speed of transactions plays any role in this situation. The Venezuelan people currently need a store of value, and for that, any reliable cryptocurrency can do. They are certainly not intending to build the entire payment infrastructure based on crypto.

Starting this month is the first CN coin to have a mobile wallet, also new tech named uncle mining will be released in Q3 and blocktree sharding protocol is scheduled for 2019.
IMO, the most important property of Masari is not the mobile wallet. It is the fact that Masari is a Monero fork, much like LTC is to BTC. So Masari has privacy features by default. They try to improve on the mining process and possibly implement blocktree sharding, in an attempt to improve scalability.

Given the smallish marketcap, I have to say it seem like a really decent coin, probably worth looking a little bit more into it and maybe even investing. Thanks for sharing.
