381  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTC-TC] Deprived Mining Speculation (DMS) on: August 26, 2013, 02:45:02 PM
According to http://bitcoin.sipa.be/, it seems some big miners will purposely slow down the hashing just before the difficulty adjusting to reduce the jump? Although I know that does not make much sense, since what they get is based on their hash rate percentage, not the difficulty. Maybe they are just doing that to save the environment.

I'm seeing the opposite on that graph.  Looks like the difficulty growth levels out for a day or so after each adjustment.  That would be consistent with people looking at their mining revenue after an adjustment and deciding to shut down their rigs.

I think both of you are seeing patterns where none exist (which is a typical human thing to do).

There is no incentive to shut down hashing just prior to a difficulty adjustment. The effect on the new difficulty is minimal and you lose more from lost mining time than from the marginally lower difficulty.

Additionally, the only reason to shut down a rig is when the electricity cost outweighs the income. While many rigs may not be profitable anymore in the sense that they won't earn back their purchase price, all ASICs are still making more coins than they cost to keep running, so there's no reason to turn off an ASIC that you have running. And by now, the fraction of GPU-miners is so low that GPUs being turned off isn't going to make a noticeable dent in the charts.

I guess hashrate reduces slightly because a part of miners swithes to PPCoin for a day or two.

Grin

383  Local / Барахолка / Re: [Предзаказ] Bitfury ASIC 65nm on: August 26, 2013, 01:12:32 PM

Meanwhile, only 46 left in stock and it's decreasing very quickly. I could find 4 more spare BTC if this helps to order faster.

Finally gave up and requested a refund. Oct 4th trade in for 60 GH unit. Since it was only ~$750 and I paid with PayPal, ROI was looking pretty good even with the delays. Now that I see how slow the singles are trickling out, I think I'd make a few hundred bucks, but not worth it any more. No way is that thing shipping out this month, much less the 30GH I ordered in April right before the price increase.

Orders paid with PayPal should have no problems at all. Just email directly to PP and report fraud: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=266945.0

Something happened with my GoogleAuth. I get "invalid or reused" error all the time for about 24 hours now. I haven't changed/reset any authentication data since I registered. Authentication works for other sites, so the problem must be on your side. My sesion has expired now, so I can't submit a support request.

Check Time/Date of your GoogleAuth device

It was the first thing I checked. Time is correct. Also, I have NTP sync installed and network connection almost all time on the device. Plus other sites accept passwords from the same device.

Not sure... All I can say is works for me...  Undecided  Sad

Edit/Add: Are you in Russia?  https://btct.co/gauthfaq#russia

Nevermind, now it works again. Don't know what the problem was. It stopped working suddenly and then started again.

Its hard to decide if take refund when you can receive the unit anytime.

Not anytime. You can estimate time left by their shipping log https://forums.butterflylabs.com/blogs/bfl_jody/
Order rate can be estimated from here http://bfl.ptz.ro/

In my case the order was 3 months ahead of currently shipping order date, so I definitely couldn't get it 'anytime'.

396  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Possible to get refund from BFL? (paid via Bitcoin) on: August 21, 2013, 11:08:06 AM
I have nothing to add, just read my posts in this thread. I'll describe the whole process in one post as soon as I reach my PC.

UPD. So the whole process with timeline.

Monday. Requested the refund by email. Told them I was aware of their "sales final" policy and still insisted the refund. Told them I would file complaints to BBB and AG. Asked for refund via the same method the order was paid, i.e. bitcoins.
Wednesday. Sent a copy through BFL online contact form.
Sunday. Filed online complaints to BBB and AG Kansas. Enclosed my invoice from BFL.
Tuesday. Received a reply asking for my BTC address. Gave one. Received email stating they had asked BitPay to refund. Received BTC.

Once again, both payment and refund are payed at fixed USD price. Invoice is in USD. Amount of BTC in both cases is determined by BitPay's instant rate.
397  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Possible to get refund from BFL? (paid via Bitcoin) on: August 21, 2013, 09:41:36 AM
Just to make it clear. They refunded the same amount in USD which I had paid. The amount of BTC I received is essentially different from what I paid.
398  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Possible to get refund from BFL? (paid via Bitcoin) on: August 21, 2013, 12:10:41 AM
Anyway, their statement of "sales final" doesn't apply in case of several months of not delivering and they know it.

Agree 100%

What I am wondering is:

-Did BFL get enough pressure (or finally wake the fuck up) and are starting to honour refunds and they are trying to keep it as quite as possible to stem the flow so to speak (ya unlikely I know but I have to consider it as possible)
-Did your pressure aid in getting you only a refund (did you file a complaint with any government agencies?)
-Was this a mistake or something like that on BFL's part

I told them in my first email that I was going to file complaints and I actually did it to BBB and Attorney General (see my above posts) but I don't think it worked so fast (I filed them on Sunday I think).
At the BBB site http://www.bbb.org/kansas-city/Business-Reviews/electronic-equipment-and-supplies-wholesale-and-manufacturers/bf-labs-inc-in-overland-park-ks-1000002011/complaints, there were already 7 complaints before me.
I don't think refund was their mistake because when running a multi-million dollar company, you would definitely refund those $187 instead of dealing with another BBB complaint.
399  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Possible to get refund from BFL? (paid via Bitcoin) on: August 20, 2013, 10:50:45 PM
Received the coins. It took 8 days since my first email to them. Expected this to be much harder.

Was there any correspondence from BFL you could share with us?  It is weird that they seemingly so easily gave you a BTC refund after they have been publicly stating for a few months now no refunds will be honoured.  I am curious why you are the only non PP customer I have seen recently get a refund.

Nothing special in the correspondence. They just asked for BTC address, then told that they have requested BitPay to process my refund, and then I received the coins. Maybe that was so easy because I only had 1 Jalapeno. Anyway, their statement of "sales final" doesn't apply in case of several months of not delivering and they know it.
