381  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 21 co introducing bitcoin [mining+] computer for $399.99 (unofficial thread) on: September 25, 2015, 12:04:55 PM
OMG, I can't believe no one here has thought about this for 2 mins to think about this in a positive aspect & how its not a miner...

& its not an IOT device, Well not in a sense that i see but a paid for service..... ( I can already here u all saying?Huh? What the??? )

Isn't everyone rushing to get a Silk road / Ebay / Paypal service up & running??

https://openbazaar.org/

Anyone???

Think about this.....

BTC Fullnode + wallet + space for apps, My guess would be an ebay style marketplace & escrow.

Think about loading the service across endless nodes & paying them a small amount to run (Hence the small miner)

So Us$400 is entry to setup a distributed ebay style service & the miner is payback for running the service...

This would get the service setup & running on lots of ip addresses saving them $$$$ on running the servers themselves, Leaving them just to run the backend & escrow service...

I'm pissed i didn't think of this first & seems i'm not the sharpest tool in the shed why no one else here thought of it before me??

382  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Best Undervolt/Underclock for S4 on: September 17, 2015, 10:17:51 AM
Use the right firmware & you can adjust the voltage form cgminer, pencil mod not needed or relevant here.

Rich

Can u be more specific on details about how to do this??

And does it last a reboot??

 The OP had asked about pencil mod and I was just making the point that you can adjust the voltage from cgminer so long as you have the right version, as you have comprehensively covered in your post above.

Rich

Cool thanks for the clarification
383  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: September 17, 2015, 10:08:57 AM
the 980w is only the 2 miners on a lepa 1600w psu, no pump

the miners are on boiler with a central heating unit pump...

Ok so we say 490w +25w for pump = 515w @ 800gh

Best i can get with same firmware & cgminer is :

550w = 0.6875 p/gh (With pump so -25w) = 525w....

Its only 10w shy pretty good if u ask me...

Looks like i'll need to ill need to do another spec sheet with the october firmware...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On a side note, I sold my C1 today... So i'll be movin on off this thread, It was fun playing with u all!

384  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: September 17, 2015, 09:35:55 AM
File System Version   Thu Oct 16 09:34:54 CST 2014
Cgminer Version   4.6.1

Miner Advanced Configuration and i put 200 for frequency and 0675 for voltage

that's all! no hardware modifications!

980watt for the 2 units, so ~490w/unit...

So freq 200 & volt 0675 = 490w

with cgminer 4.6.1?

Does that include the watts it takes to run the pump & radiator fans? I know its only about 25w but...

That would make it 515w right??

I'm only asking cause the best i was able to get was 800gh @ 590w using cgminer 4.7 on Nov 25 2014 firmware

& the only differences i can see so far are the october firmware & cgminer 4.6.1...

If that's all it is then ill try to replicate..
385  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: September 17, 2015, 06:44:59 AM
so 2*c1 at 1kw and 1.6th

it's ~500w at 800gh!!!!!!!!!!!! not 400w!

pump is like 25watt or less, not worth the effort to think of its consumption

need sleep? too much alcohol?

So can u tell us what u did to achieve this?? Any hardware hacks or is it all in the software???

What firmware are u using?? What Cgminer? What Freq? & What volt?

I see u used a kill o watt or similar, Was that 2 x C1's running at 960w?? So 480w per unit??

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just ran a comparison test using the lowest volt setting that seems to work without any x's on the board, Below are my findings..

(Sorry about the caps, I wasn't watching what i was doing when i made the spec sheet up - Too lazy to fix?? - Too trivial to bother??)

ANTMINER C1 - ALL VOLTAGES ARE SET TO 0670V

LATEST FIRMWARE DEC 17 2014 = CGMINER 4.7

------------------------
BEST SETTING = FREQ : 150 X  VOLT : 0670 = 420W @ 615GH = 0.68 PER GH
------------------------

FREQ = 100

SPEED = 400GH

WATTS = 285W

PER 1GH = 0.7125 WATTS

------------------------

FREQ = 125

SPEED = 500GH

WATTS = 370W

PER 1GH = 0.74 WATTS

------------------------

FREQ = 150

SPEED = 615GH

WATTS = 420W

PER 1GH = 0.68 WATTS

------------------------

FREQ = 175

SPEED = 675GH

WATTS = 540W

PER 1GH = 0.8 WATTS

------------------------

FREQ = 200

SPEED = 800GH

WATTS = 590W

PER 1GH = 0.7375 WATTS

-------------------------

FREQ = 218.25

SPEED = 830GH

WATTS = 655W

PER 1GH = 0.78 WATTS

-------------------------

FREQ = 225

SPEED = 935GH

WATTS = 715W

PER 1GH = 0.764 WATTS

-------------------------

Anyone have better settings??

Interesting to compare...

----------------------------------

Hey Bitmain, Its amazing what u can do when u spend 5 mins of ur time to create these results...

Brought down from 0.8 p/gh to 0.68 p/gh - A small but great gain for miners still using old gear..

-----------------------------------

UPDATE

Nicehash firmware with cgminer 4.9

BEST SETTING = FREQ : 150 X  VOLT : 0670 = 410W @ 605GH = 0.677 PER GH

Marginal increase in efficiency = 0.003 not enough 4 most to worry bout but if ur scraping 4 spare watts since the release of the S7 like i am..

having some issues with an antminer s4

https://i.imgur.com/mm4mS2r.png

https://i.imgur.com/bWiB9Ce.png

so I pretty much figured out that I have a bad IO board by putting in a good working one into this miner from another working miner. I am having trouble locating anything on fixing or replacing this board. Anyone have any insight on this?

Your pics lack the asic status.  Are all asics showing o's, any - or x's.  I do believe there is an updated firmware version you could upload to the S4.

My only troubles I had pointed to the psu which can easily be the cause of everything.  What does the front panel screen show it hashing at?

Please be careful taking advice from Meech as he doesn't have a kill o watt & doesn't run tests on his own machine to give u the right advice u need... Oh & did i mention his S4 was in getting fixed last time we checked in...

Please read the comments on the page or so before this & make up ur own mind as to weather u take his advice or not..
Leave your tasteless comments out of the threads and yes I have a kill-a-watt, 3 exactly and a sound meter.  My S4 is fixed now, thanks to Yoshi.  What have you offered on the forums with your wisdom?

Here is my wisdom Meech

Just wanted to update u all on my latest findings for the S4 for under clocking/volting...

Best underclock using sept 04 2014 image

Running on 240 volts (In Australia)

Using Freq : 100 & Volt : 0670

I get around 980gh @ 640w - (Tested with a kill o watt)

---------------------------------------------------------------

https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/article_attachments/200965819/s4sep26.img.gz

u'll need to unzip this & use hdd raw copy to image this to ur sd card (U'll need to take the sd card out of the miner & do this on ur pc)

This will give u undervolting again...

Now i know this uses an old cgminer & is known to have issues so do this..

---------------------------------------------------------------

This will install Smit's low fan firmware (To keep noise to absolute min) & cgminer 4.9. It will also survive a reboot...

Connect to your S4 via SSH. We all know that username is "root", password is "admin". Also we all know that we need use PuTTY software

Then we get into /mnt/mmc1 folder:

Code:
cd /mnt/mmc1

Rename initramfs.bin.SD to initramfs.bin.SD.orig (or with any name convenient for you) to make rollback possible:

Code:
mv initramfs.bin.SD initramfs.bin.SD.orig

Then we can download those tho images for slow fans & cgminer 4.9

Code:
wget http://95.84.240.160:8080/s4_symlink/S4_cgminer_symlink_low_fan.initramfs.bin.SD -O initramfs.bin.SD

Now we are ready to download cgminer. Note that after above steps we have to put cgminer's files to /config/cgminer folder, otherwise mining will not start.

We can now download and put cgminer to the necessary folder with this code:

Code:
cd /config && wget http://95.84.240.160:8080/s4_symlink/cgminer_4.9.0_S4 -O cgminer && chmod +x cgminer

Now type exit & reboot ur machine.

Any problems please ask or pm..

PLEASE BE AWARE - The slow fan firmware should only be used at the underclocked & undervolted settings... U could start a fire if u use this at full speed!!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE

If u can get the J7 board to set the voltages correct on startup (This requires a kill o watt or similar)

To do this u'll need to start & restart the machine till the kill o watt tells u the right voltage / watts...

The amount of restarts is random so just keep trying it till it sets right.

Old settings as above with J7 on the loose will give 640w

With the J7 running correctly it will be 600w, (Tested with a kill o watt) That's another 40w saving....

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey Bitmain I believe i finally got ur 0.6w u were original boasting about, Just funny it took ur new product to come to market before

this ever happened..

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I believe this is the maximum savings we will get out of the S4 until someone does a hardware hack...

Be interesting to see if anyone can replicate or better these settings!

Big thanks goes to : sjenja who worked out the J7 problem...

If bitmain does release an upgrade pack for these of an add on miner or 2 be it as the controller will run 3 at a time...

The only saving anyone will make is on the controller & that begs the question.. How much is a controller worth??

Maybe $50 a unit so the saving will be $100 at most... I think u'll be better of getting the extra controller as phil had said

I can see a thread being dedicated to busted controllers for these coming out... & who wants 15th offline while u rma a controller...

The extra $50 for the controller is a no brainer as it adds no extra weight to the package for delivery..

Just under 500 units of S7's sold so far as a pre release.....

It will be interesting to see if S7 + or - are ever released..

The S7 is quite a step forward in anyones books... Even if they have sorted how to mine both Sha & script at the same time...

394  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer R1 on: September 02, 2015, 12:07:23 PM
So now they have released spec's for the new chips...

0.25gh then at 2w, Lets say the router takes 0.5 to run leaving 1.5 for mining...

At 2w this is a 6gh always on miner, Mining at bitmains pool....

& as a solo device for us but if bitmain puts this on for themselves...

They could pool mine with it, Make us solo mine with it but as its pool mined for them...

They only have to pay a miner running a R1 when & if they hit a block.....

Imagine being able to hit ur own pool with 6gh x Huh? miners (Huh? would be determined roughly by how many miners on average bitmain has sold per unit...  ie they sold 1000 S1's 10,000 S3's etc & average that out across all miners sold to date..)

Lets say for arguments sake they sold on average across all miners 100,000 units

100,000 units x 6 gh is = 600,000gh all pointed at there own pool on top of there on units & managed farms...

This might not sound like much & my figures may understate this by miles (U never know - Well bitmain does)

This extra hash for nothing is worth something, They don't have to pay for power & to top that off they prob collect the fee's that come off the top...

Now if CK can run his solo pool collecting 0.5% off the top of any coin earnt then if bitmain takes all the fee's off the top & only pays the block coins, Then this will make them a tidy sum, esp if u take into consideration the block halving & going into the future fee's going up & up...

Any other thoughts??

396  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: August 31, 2015, 12:52:12 AM
Is that smits software for voltage control available somewhere? From the chart i believe you can undervolt just a tiny bit and still run at stock/setting speed but with less watt?

No, it isn't. Back in the day no one wanted to chip in to support his efforts to fix bitmain's crippled firmware, so only I got it. Any firmware after the October S4 firmware has the voltage control intentionally disabled by bitmain.

So you're saying that the smits's/Nicehash firmware for S4 for lower fan speed and cgminer 4.9.0 works, they just don't include voltage control? Still sound a bit vindictive to punish people who were not involved at that time even if they offer to pitch in now.

If you want to complain, complain to bitmain. They're the ones who fucked everyone over with their bullshit functionality removing S4 firmware updates. They just fucked S4+ owners over with an firmware update again. Smit didn't receive a single satoshi from S4 owners aside from myself. I'd have told them to fuck off too.

I have no interest in complaining. It just sound vindictive/childish when "you" refuse to share the firmware with people willing to pay out of a "You should have pitched in then" grudge.

......... There's no grudge and the firmware isn't mine to share. It belongs to Smit. Got any more brilliant observations?

But i am talking about Smit refusing to share/sell to other users, giving the reason that no one was interested to support the project back then, as other users reported in the thread. You said it yourself, but i'm not talking about you. When i said "you" i put the quote there to signify i don't mean you literally.

And you sound fairly bitter and snarky for someone with no grudge Tongue

That's not how quotes work. Anyways, the topic has been beaten to death, that's why I sound annoyed.  No one does anything for free around here, yet everyone expects everything for nothing. People were too cheap to chip in, and too lazy to bitch and complain to bitmain and get the issue resolved. What more can be said?

There's a toggle switch in the software to enable or disable voltage control. I have no idea how to change it, but if you can figure it out you'll have voltage control too. If you think you can squeeze blood from a stone, ask people who own S4s in this thread to donate a bit to smit. I'm sure he'll be happy to release his hard work after that.

Sound fair enough. But no, if it wasn't done before i doubt there's much interest in it now. And truth be said, saving 30 watts at stock settings isin't exactly worth starting a crusade for me.

But if its really just Bitmain disabling a flag and i could get my hand on the source, that might be of actual interest for me just for fun. But it would probably be more effective to talk to Nicehash about their S4 firmware version.

The source isn't available unfortunately. The savings are much greater than 30 watts. I'm going off memory here, but 0700 200MHz vs 0725 200MHz (Stock) is pretty close to 200 watts. I'd have to find my notes from when I tested a bunch of voltage and speed combinations.

That's a lot crazier than the chart i have seen. You're basically saying you can run it at 2.3~TH undervolted for about the same watt as a normal stock. That could be worth batting an eye.

I guess i'll have to do my homework.

No I'm talking about undervolting at 200MHz, which is stock 2 TH/s.

And i'm talking about overclocking with the watt saved to run at 2.2-2.3TH/s at the same consumption of a stock machine at 2TH/s.

Dude i tried chasing Smit for the firmware with a donation to no avail, I also tried prelude (I understand dude its not urs to sell)

If there are others out there like us 2 please talk up now to see if there is any chance of ever getting this firmware so we can undervolt!!

Am i to take this is really a custom controller for the S3 (Made from the idea of a S1 controller)

If so is the only benefit here is for S3 owners who have had the controller die & need a replacement?
