3821  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin caused the mass production of altcoins and air coins on: July 18, 2021, 02:01:28 PM
We all celebrate Satoshi not just because he is the creator of bitcoin, but because he was the first and boldest to take the first step towards the future. Bitcoin is the pioneer crypto currency and it is fair to say that all other creators of the early cryptocurrency that followed studied bitcoin first before their own creations having seen that the step was a step in the right direction towards the future of money.

So "yes", bitcoin caused the mass production of altcoins and other shitcoins. There are over a hundred altcoins out there and most were created by the creators for "pump and dump", a way to gather bitcoins and Ethereum for themselves.

3823  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Manny Pacquiao vs Errol Spence Jr - August 21 on: July 18, 2021, 04:58:54 AM
Although many like my self are still waiting to see a bout between Errol Spence Jr and Crawford, the fight between him and the Pac Man will still be very much entertaining.

Errol Spence jr has made public that he plans to knock out Old Pacquiao into retirement but i seriously hope that he can perform as he has youth & speed associated with age as an advantage to him and a very impressive career record of 27 wins and no losses, 21 of them being KO.

On the other hand, the Pac Man is not going to be an easy opponent, he is very experienced and is preparing really hard for this fight as seen from his social media handles, he is also one of the greatest fighters alive and I hope he will be able to uphold his career record.
3824  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: If you aren't reading you shouldn't be trading on: July 17, 2021, 09:15:08 PM
It is not just about reading, you can be a trader and a reader, but it so happens that you are reading the wrong thing and absorbing information that though not completely useless is not useful in trading, imagine i am a trader that reads a lot but it is mostly the romantic novels.

I believe the proper narrative should be "if you aren't keen on information, you shouldn't be trading" because reading the right materials, listening to right channels and news outlets and even discussions and conversations with the right people on the subject of trading are all useful ways of staying informed which is very necessary in trading.
3825  Economy / Trading Discussion / Where do you get trading advice and tips from? on: July 17, 2021, 09:06:31 PM
These days, as more people become more aware of forex and cryptotrading, There are a lot of people giving unsolicited advice and tips as regards the subjects. The big question is who and where do you take your trading advice and tips from?

Do you get your trading advice and tips from a self acclaimed trading guru on YouTube or some social media platform who sometimes make most of their money from selling courses and not really trading?
Or do you take trading advice from this forum?

Do you get advice and tips from some telegram group you joined? Or do you get advice and tips from your friends?
3826  Economy / Economics / Re: Will the popularity of cryptocurrency continue? on: July 17, 2021, 08:45:56 PM
The popularity of cryptocurrency will continue basically among millennials than in those who are aged 65 and above. For example, a poll conducted by Harris Poll in 2017 showed that; there was a 23% to 11% drop in the people who are unaware of Bitcoin. Secondly, there was a 40% to 60% increase among millennials who said they are "somewhat familiar" with Bitcoin. Thirdly, among respondents who agreed that the most people would be using Bitcoin rose from 28% to 33%.

In addition, a look at the news and other online media will tell you that the popularity of cryptocurrency is not about to wane anytime soon, as a matter of fact, it is just beginning.

See mention of the poll here;

3827  Economy / Economics / Re: Financial freedom and success comes from knowledge on: July 17, 2021, 05:18:23 PM
Financial freedom and success comes from applied knowledge. Personally I believe that self-education trumps formal education. Jim Rohn once said, “formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune.” I'm pretty sure that the Bitcoin whales we have in the world 🌍 today didn't acquire their knowledge of cryptocurrency through formal education but were self-taught. And one of the best ways to make a lot of money 💰and be financially free and successful is to understudy those who are already financially successful.

There's always going to be a bull and a bear market, there's always going to be  FUD, there's always going to be shitcoins, there's always going to be pump and dump seasons, there's always going to be a bearwhale and what-have -you. It is in these times that your knowledge will truly be tested and if applied accurately can result in huge financial gains. Ofcourse the reverse is the case.
3828  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Terms and condition a must read before signing up any online gambling site on: July 17, 2021, 02:03:44 AM
I really like to read the terms and conditions but truly it is usually presented in a manner that does not support user friendliness so it is difficult for me to settle down and read the whole terms and conditions properly. To save myself from the drama, what i do is that i only use gambling platforms and sites that i have friends who have used it and got paid there hassle free, that is, i use gambling sites only by word of mouth recommendation or referral, not trying to be the first among my friends who i know gamble more than i do to discover a new gambling site.
3829  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are you gambling to make money or just for fun? on: July 16, 2021, 02:29:51 PM
If you gamble with the sole intention of making money, the probability of you loosing money is higher because in a bid to win the money, you might get too calculative and make mistakes and then you bite yourself too hard when you loose. But if you have fun while you gamble, there is an ease that comes with it having less anxiety and a higher probability to win. Even though you loose, you don't bite yourself so hard because you know you had fun while at it.

As ironical as it may sound too, you might not become addicted if you gamble to make money because if after many consecutive loses, you might just come to terms with the idea or fact that gambling is not the way for you to make money, you might stop and just find something else to do, which is good in most cases. But if you gamble for fun, you find satisfaction in it and it doesn't concern you the amount you loose from gambling, in no time at all there is a very high probability that gambling will ruin your life as you will definitely become too addicted that you may not see or want to consider the damage that gambling may be doing to you.
3830  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Taxes on gambling send the right message? on: July 16, 2021, 02:07:02 PM
It is the duty of the government of any nation to do things and make rules and decisions with the interest/benefit of the people at heart. Having analysed the socio-economic life of its Citizens, some governments are aware that if they do not set high taxes and regulations against some vices like gambling, prostitution and some other things tagged as illegal, these things have the ability to topple a moral society.

The government is still aware that regardless of their regulations against certain activities like gambling, prostitution and others, these activities still go on as most of its citizens do not care and are ready to go against the law for it...so in a bid to control it, here's a rhetorical question, "why not make it legal and then impose a huge tax on it?" In order to gain from those who can pay the tax and discourage others who cannot pay the tax to not continue.
3831  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Be a Responsible Gambler on: July 16, 2021, 02:33:55 AM
It is always important that we tell ourselves the truth all the time. If you truthfully in your heart know that you are the type that easily gets addicted to something and then this addiction becomes difficult to break, it is advised you do not even start to gamble because if you do, sooner than later, the whole totality if irresponsible gambling is bound to overshadow you.

In short, don't try to even become a responsible gambler when you know you are the type that cannot control his or her self. Do not start what you cannot finish.
3832  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: not paying? You should unlearn then relearn on: July 15, 2021, 07:05:06 PM
In every aspect of life, for every skill set, the statement of unlearning which i believe you mean "letting go of old knowledge or a way of doing things" and relearning which is "acquainting oneself with the modern approach"  is applicable because the concept of knowledge is dynamic and ever changing. For one to think that he has gotten to the peak of knowledge and doesn't need to keep sharpening up his skill set is simply deluding themselves into a near failure or becoming old fashioned.

As a trader, you must not get too comfortable when a trading strategy is working for you, you must still make a conscious effort to ensure that your strategy is kept updated. Learning is through out life because as times and season's change so is the need for the existing knowledge.
Be humble enough to be a student throughout life.
3833  Other / Archival / Re: Bitcoin Marriage on: July 15, 2021, 02:18:24 PM
Marriage is a decision and an agreement, and the manner and style i want my marriage to be conducted depends on both people entering the agreement/union, that is we both choose how the ceremony will be conducted depending on our interests.

Some religions and cultures use the exchange of rings to symbolise a union, some others use the exchange of relics like the bible between couples to signify union. If i decide to get married, my wife to be and I can decide to signify our union in any way we choose, it is but a matter of choice.

From the choice of the Bitcoin marriage, it is obvious that they both are crypto conscious individuals who just wanted their special day to be the first of many. I particularly applaud them for their inventfulnes.
3834  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: signs of gambling addiction on: July 15, 2021, 03:23:02 AM
An addiction is a mental illness, and the major indication of an addiction is a lack of control. Unfortunately, many are more addicted to gambling more than they are willing to admit to.

The major characteristics of "lack of control" is "choices". That is the level or degree to which someone is addicted to gambling directly reflects on the choices he makes daily.

A simple decision to cut a meal so to have enough money or more money to gambling is a sign of addiction, a simple decision to ignore a social gathering in a bid to go gamble is a sign of addiction, the decision to keep playing and loosing ones income without even stopping to calculate and strategize properly for lower losses and wins is a sign of addiction. Having over 80% of your conversation daily with people about gambling even when they are fellow gamblers or not or show interest or not is a sign of addiction because one has not been able to exercise control.

3835  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Your betting budget on: July 15, 2021, 02:53:05 AM
One of the things I do is to set aside 10% of my income for things that I really do not need - expensive clothing, gadgets and electronics, books, games,... and part of that is gambling. For me, a reasonable gambling budget is 3 to 5% of my income, although I may allow more if I have some extraordinary income that month.

It is easier to have a betting budget that you can be disciplined enough stick to when you are not a compulsive gambler, but someone who just gambles for fun. For some others, gambling has become an occupation for them, while others have become addicted and can no longer control or put under the budget an amount for gambling.

Also people are different in nature, some can easily control a habit even if they start, some can decide to just quit a habit they already have, while others even if they start small and under control cannot maintain the control over the habit for a long time.

So you may see someone who originally had a budget for gambling but he/she no longer does because he can no longer maintain the discipline to gamble responsibly under a budget.

3836  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Fate or lack of control - Gambling on: July 15, 2021, 02:22:42 AM
If one properly examines the meaning of the word "fate", the oxford dictionary puts it as the "development of event outside of a person's control." It is plausible to think that there are some external forces that sometimes push people to gamble and may be out of situational pity or the right to win after many consecutive failures in the game, things just go as intended even without much effort and careful thinking.

So if you have gambled a lot and lost some money, have it at the back of your mind that you are accumulating and earning your right to win because fate is watching really and expect that at some point, you will hit jackpot. You only do not win after a while probably because you did not try to win enough, and you quit before your efforts got ripe enough to earn you a win.

It is important to always remember that loosing actually shows that an effort has been made to win, but one should also gamble responsibly and in proportion and should be weary of rash decisions in gambling.
3837  Economy / Economics / Re: What is better - cryptocurrency trading or investing? on: July 14, 2021, 04:46:46 AM
When discussing issues like this, it is first important to note that it is relative, that is they are both good, what determines which is actually better is the one that works best for you after trying the two, that is investing and then trading. That is, you cannot say cryptocurrency trading is better when it is all that you have tried and have not tried investing, also you cannot say investing is better for you when it is all you have tried and you are too afraid to try trading probably because of other people's experience.

I might argue that investing is better and another might argue that trading is better, the truth is that we are both correct because we are speaking from different standpoints, our own point of view which has been directly influenced by the profit we have made from our choices.

Above all, what is most important is identifying the one that works for you and gives you profit and then sticking to it. What works for a certain Mr Z may not work for you and vice versa.
3838  Economy / Economics / Re: Can cryptocurrencies replace fiat currencies on: July 14, 2021, 04:23:05 AM
Just as we have options and choices that still hold universally, like the option of

-whether to have tea or coffee,
-to either drive a car or ride a motorcycle or both for mobility sake
-to either travel by road, by air or by sea.
-the option of which tv channel to watch or radio station to listen to and so on

Cryptocurrency has come to present options in terms of finance and not to completely replace the traditional fiat. Now users have an option to send money across the globe in cryptocurrency or in the traditional fiat through the government controlled banks.

For me, it is the dream that cryptocurrency gains widespread acceptance globally like fiat to an extent that they can both exist and be used in harmony.
3839  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you pay with Bitcoin whenever you're able to? on: July 14, 2021, 03:42:12 AM
The truth is many of us bitcoin HODLers seldom use bitcoin to pay for things especially because bitcoin is generally viewed by many as an investment strategy, that is a way to get more from your money due to its high volatility. As a result, many like myself are seeking for ways to get more bitcoin rather than spend from the little we have.

If however i want to transfer money to someone in a far away country, and its a substantial amount, i can convert a part of my BTC HODLings into a coin with a lower transaction fee to send out or make the transfer in BTC if its small and the seller of a service or product i need so demands his payment in BTC.
3840  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I rather stay hungry than sell my Bitcoin on: July 14, 2021, 03:28:38 AM
The choice of whether to sell your bitcoin or not to sell depends on the degree of hunger you face. Examine a situation where the hunger has now moved past mere hunger and has metamorphosed into starvation to a point it is now a matter of life and death.

Only the living can HODL bitcoin, and in as much as we all have a target, this target should not be placed above being alive because if you die out of starvation or something else, there is a 90% chance that your HODLings may become lost & inaccessible to your next of kin unless your key was documented somewhere reachable.

Also the situation at hand puts forward different scenarios...Are you temporarily hungry and do you have hope on how to get money to eat from another source apart from you Bitcoin, if so, then it is easier to say you will stay hungry rather than selling bitcoins. If however the situation is very ugly, and there is no other means or way to money for food other than selling a part of your bitcoins to be able to survive the situation, this is also very okay because "ONLY THE LIVING CAN HODL BITCOIN". Don't die of starvation.
