Do you actually need a third party software? Just use the one in Windows 10 and restore from usb key... Actually scratch that. As long as your vbioses aren't original/uefi you're screwed anyway! Cheesy

stayed with macrium because ive used it for years. will back up any drive/os. just habit on my part i guess.
3862  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [SCAM] Foxminers? on: May 19, 2017, 11:09:35 AM
And they're comedians, too!!

According to Mike Harish, “Specifically, the units deliver 75TH/s mining power from an electricity consumption of 1500W. The energy efficiency is improved further by the chips being endothermic-they absorb energy heat from the surrounding rather than give it off.”

Endothermic IC's!!  ROFLMAO!!  This should have been an April 1st release...

exothermic units in the winter, endothermic units in the summer. BRILLIANT!

or set then face to face and let them fight each other.

3863  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer L3 - 250mh - 400watt Scrypt miner coming soon on: May 19, 2017, 11:03:19 AM
Is it possible to run 4 x L3+ in the same room using 4 "different" outlets? Or should I run a maximum 2 L3+ units per room? I'm not sure how to handle ~3520 watts (4 x L3+)...  Huh How do you guys deal with so much power in your home in a 100% safe way?

most rooms in usa houses use the same breaker for all outlets in that room, so no.

semi serious miners will either spread the units to multiple rooms (each with its own breaker) or run dedicated 220 volt outlets from the breaker panel.

sometimes garages will have outlets on separate breakers. kitchens will generally have separate breakers for various groups of outlets too.

best to map your outlets to their respective breakers.

only load a circuit to 80% max.

nvOC is for fast 16gb or larger USB keys only: I highly recommend using this 32gb one as it is now cheaper than the 16gb one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00T61JM4E

curious as to why usb sticks only. not that i am against them, my freenas box has been running off  of two 16 gb usb sticks configured in raid 1 for its OS for a few years now.

it just doesnt work with ssds? or..?
3865  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v9.3 (Windows/Linux) on: May 19, 2017, 10:40:25 AM
But you know what, you did make a valid point. I will back up system images of my miners to my NAS. That's always a good idea in case sh*t hits the fan.

ive been using macrium reflect free for ages to make image backups of miners and regular rigs. cant beat the peace of mind. anything goes poof, restore and youre back up and running in minutes.
3866  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: POLONIEX its insolvent - Bolivarcoin Theory + Proff on: May 18, 2017, 09:24:14 PM
got tired of the lag. pulled the last of my trading/lending coins out today.

pity i liked polo. maybe it will come back better sometime in the future.
3867  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 6x RX480 GPU Rig - Heat and Noise? on: May 18, 2017, 07:07:05 PM
dunno bout noise (depends on how you build it) but for heat, imagine a 1200+ watt heater running 24/7..
3868  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's ZCash AMD GPU Miner v12.4 (Windows/Linux) on: May 18, 2017, 12:02:19 PM

does undervolting gpu also reduce the gpu temperature?
and if gpu temperature reduce, does also reduce hashrates?
or what is the purpose of undervolting gpu?

undervolting saves power and heat.

as long as the clocks are the same you will get the same hashrate at lower power and heat.

i run my 470s at -100 and my 390s at -75
3869  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fourth alt coin thread last three got oversized. on: May 18, 2017, 10:33:16 AM
So as a "rule", I have windows update turned off on my W7 boxes.  However, I'm all for keeping them reasonably up to date so they don't become hijacked, like Gaby mentioned.

Does anyone have a nice way to apply a "roll-up" update that contains "many" updates (Windows 7), rather than enabling windows update?

ms now uses a monthly "roll up" update once a month on win7/10.

on 7 i just tell it to let me know. after a few days with no issues reported on the web it let it update. i do a full image backup 1st though. if something tanks from the update  i restore from backup.

no way to pick and choose what updates you want in 7/10 now, its all or nothing.

as for 10.. well its only on my notebooks and they dont mine. they are on wifi and i set them as metered connections so they cant download and update till i turn that off. same deal, full image backup 1st.

full image backups have saved me mucho problems. use macrium reflect free version.
3870  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EXCHANGE] Poloniex - Crypto Exchange with BTC/NXT on: May 17, 2017, 01:45:15 PM
poloniex is very laggy today. slow to trade, slow sending confirmation emails and slow to pull out coins.

finally pulled my coins (that i kept in there for trading) out today. have a bit out on lends but ill pull those out when the term is up.

not liking what i see anymore.
3871  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Monitoring WannaCry hackers' bitcoin addresses in real time on: May 17, 2017, 11:20:31 AM
So,
How can we protect ourselves?
I heard that they are asking payments in Bitcoin, I haven't read that much about this attack.
I have updated my antivirus and copied all the data from my computer to my portable hard drive. Nothing is in my computer.
Also is this attack is only restricted to computers? or mobile phones are also affected?

only windows computers, no macs or *nix systems yet. XP, Vista, win8.x, win7 are vulnerable. not win10 as far as i know.

best defense: UPDATE your OS and software. backup to OFFLINE disks. use decent antivirus. and dont click unknown attachments in mail.
3872  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fourth alt coin thread last three got oversized. on: May 17, 2017, 11:11:08 AM

I think maybe this is related to a windows update or something Huh

EDIT : a deep deep multiple uninstall of drivers finally fixed the trouble , but weird this happened in the same time on my two windows 10 rigs.

if you go to the win10 update settings page you can pull a list of the dates win10 installed updates, see if they correspond to the dates you had the problems.

this is one reason why i mine on win7. i tell it to monitor for but not install updates till i can review them.

Port 445 is open by default in Windows. At least, on versions prior to Windows 7 (Windows XP is the last version that I am more or less familiar with). This port is required for Windows local networking (for file and printer sharing), so if it is open and computer is connected to Internet, it will be exposed as well. Personally, I think that here we have a case with a backdoor intentionally left by Microsoft and information of which (how to use it) got stolen from an Alphabet agency

port 445 may be open in internal networks. it is not open to the internet, at least with a properly set up router/firewall.

go to grc.com and let it scan your ports. 445 is stealthed on mine. thats with 6 computers behind a router, and windows firewall on plus whatever firewalls freenas, ubuntu and the rpi use. and i have file/printer sharing on.
3874  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: do you think litecoin will recover ? on: May 16, 2017, 04:47:11 PM
Segwit was a good news story, which is why it pumped. But... no-one uses Litecoin. There were only 9,753 transactions in the last 24 hours:

https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/litecoin-transactions.html

That means that people arn't switching to use litecoin, even though there is a transaction backlog on bitcoin.

If this continues and no-one uses it, there is no reason for the price to rise.

im getting tired of the btc transaction delays and ridiculous fees.

today i sent someone ltc instead of btc (i own both). transaction was confirmed in about a minute with a 6 cent free.

im sure others will come to the same conclusion. ltc will become the main coin for payments.
3875  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU mining harming the GPU ? on: May 16, 2017, 01:55:02 PM
about the only part that will wear is the fans.

mining is actually better in some ways as its temp remains constant. constant temp is good for electronics because of thermal expansion and contraction. and power off/on cycles is worse than leaving it on 24/7.

just keep it cool, dont go crazy overclocking it or messing with the vbios. and use a GOOD psu.
3876  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: COINBASE SCAM ALERT!!!!............ on: May 16, 2017, 01:23:34 PM
One question that hits me hard after going through the post is, How can coinbase, or any other exchange/ wallet, determine if you have used the coins for gambling or any other suspicious activity??

Bitcoins transfers, being anonymous, can't be tracked for origin or destination.

All you can have is the originating address and receiving address and this information is not going to reveal any account related information.

Would love to know if there's a way to reveal the destination of funds.

coinbase does have some sort of list of gambling site addresses.

solution. always send to your own wallet 1st, then send to gambling site. same with gambling site withdrawals.

i dont gamble but this is what others say. so may or may not be accurate.
3877  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [SCAM] Foxminers? on: May 16, 2017, 01:07:48 PM

EDIT: In light of the WannaCry worm, even though so far it can only hit XP systems I must
So far all initial infections have been on XP systems that visited a hacked website. As part of the 'normal' website activities allowed by XP and Active-X, the worm was let in.

actually any windows os (xp, vista, 8.x, 7 not sure about 10) can get hit if they are not patched. ms patched it in march but we all know how well typical users patch stuff up Roll Eyes
3878  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: LIGHTNINGASIC launching GPU miner. 8X GPU, 16XGPU, UP TO 32XGPU. on: May 15, 2017, 12:57:35 PM

I heard the expansion cards work with Asrock H81 probtc.
read about another adapter at techpowerup. turns 6 slot mobos into 8 slot mobos.

https://www.techpowerup.com/233317/biostar-releases-accessory-to-convert-your-gaming-pc-into-a-pro-mining-rig

8 cards with an adapter. works with the following mobos: RACING H170GT3, GAMING H170T, Hi-Fi H170S3H, Hi-Fi B150S1, Hi-Fi B150S1 D4, or TB150 PR

i would rather go with the lightning board if i can find 8 single slot cards. much neater and smaller package.

Hi,

Are there any proofs for average perfomance?

after flying to china they posted 3 or 4 pictures, one poor picture of a miner, 2 pics of a monitor with some stats, and one picture that was redacted. they are some short videos somewhere linked in this thread.

seems like a long way to go for so little real info like long videos and tons more pics.

ps i have no dog in this fight. just watching how it goes down. best of luck folks.
3880  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: CRYPTSY stopping withdraw locking accounts without notifying users! Class Action on: May 15, 2017, 12:40:56 PM

Coinbase  .if you buy Btc in coinbase
N send to gambling websites or blacklisted wallet you may get ban or get jail ride .( drugs , hitman ,  create fake or duplicate ID of authority, most important
money laundry  )
How coinbase stake your wallet 2 wallet .also they watching your all action in bitcoin

It not matter it your bitcoin or how you use or spend , no Right to claimed coinbase

dont use coinbase as a wallet. buy your coin, send it to your own wallet. from there send it to wherever.

i use coinbase to buy and sell. its linked to a bank account. i buy, i transfer it out to my wallet asap. i sell i send it directly to my bank. i give my accountant a spreadsheet with all coinbase buys and sell, he figures taxes out and i pay it,

works fine for me.
