Just had a sick deja vu, almost like a matrix glitch, last time it happened the price went up

The trend is still pointing down, though, it hasn't even flattened out yet...

How many coins are being mined these days?   At the price they would fetch outside China, would they be enough for significant evasion?

I don't think that those coins would be easy or safe to get. How would the evaders contact the miners and pay them?  Big miners have large installations and huge electricity bills, they cannot easily hide from the government.

Exactly the same amount as in February last year. The emission is (more-or-less) constant until next halving. That's why difficulty goes up when the total network speed goes up: to maintain the constant emission of bitcoins.

The laws of economics cannot be repealed by legislative fiat. You could sooner repeal the Law of Gravity.

Chinese may have a Communist government, but it's mainly so in name only. When it comes to the sensibilities of economics, they take a far more liberal stance, than most "democracies".

They just did that a few month ago , didn't they?

Did what? Say that bitcoin should be treated no different than any other foreign currency? As far as I remember they didn't even circulation of bitcoins between individuals, while the businesses need to apply for a kind of "money transmitter" license.
3864  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 13, 2014, 03:02:40 PM
There is a Bitcoin future in China, whether the government bans it or not. The fact that it's useful for evading capital controls and other State restrictions guarantees it.

Is it?  Basically the only way to convert Yuan to/from Bitcoin now is through a Chinese bank.  Both the bank and the exchange will want your ID.

What do you mean exactly by "evading capital controls and State restrictions"?

There are many miners in China. The Chinese could buy or trade from them even if all the exchanges closed. One could buy from anyone in China who holds bitcoin and was willing to sell. Communist countries have always had black markets.

"If any company that decides to accept Bitcoins as a means of payment against its leaders can initiate criminal proceedings under Art. 174 of the Criminal Code ("Legalization of money or other property acquired by other persons in a criminal way." - RBC daily) », - said the source. Will collect information FSB and the Interior Ministry.

The keyword here is "can". The same, and under the same law, applies to payments in $, £, € or any other currency.

Though everybody does it, if you travel to, say, Sochi, and pay someone there in dollars for a used car, the recipient can come under scrutiny for money laundering.

It's amazing how the Rooskies keep trying to re-lose a cold war they already lost. Held up our Olympic team's yogurt at customs. Country run by a short bald guy who plays Karate and rides horses bare-chested. Their whole economy is based off of selling their natural resources to real industrialized economies. And that's the improved Russia!

Cold war? The question of who truly lost it will be answered in a few hundred of years. As for now, Russia has managed to cut back its military spendings, while US bloats them; Russia is not invading anyone, while US is doing it non-stop, trying to ignite WW3 and maintaining its title of the Evil Empire.

Your comment is a manifestation of a certain type of a blindfolded and brainwashed Western/US mindset, which longs for the days of the cold war. Hopefully you are not in the majority.

You are sadly right that selling of natural resources had become the main source of income, mainly because of the politicians since Yeltsin's times, who sold their soul to the Western transnats, WTO and money cartels, as well as to a group of money-loving oligarchs who are as Russian as Obama is Irish.

Personally, I am waiting for the refund for KnC Neptune preorder, all of wich will be transferred back to the exchange to buy BTC back. I expect to gain about 6BTC from the cancellation, over what I paid for it.

So yeah, some are still buying. Bitcoin has seen a drawn-out bear market before. Those who cashed out back then, are the ones who lost the most.
3868  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 13, 2014, 09:00:57 AM
What's today's reason for the sheep to panic btw?

Fear?  Insecurity?  Who knows.

So nothing really. As most of the times. Panic selling because there might be panic selling.
Really at which point is this gonna stop? How is it gonna stop? When we reach the bottom? Is everybody happy then?

Can't these people really not understand the simple concept that what they are doing is exactly the reason why their coins lose value? And that is exactly what they fear? How silly can it get?

It will stop at some psychological level, when the buyers says that this is "good enough price for me" and start buying, at which point the trend will turn.

Yay BFX down for me but still trading

I have limit orders set.  I am better off just switching everything off and coming back tomorrow.  My strategy is self executing and every time I fiddle with it during a market event I screw it up.

So I don't mind that I can't get to BFX Smiley.

Sounds familiar! Cheesy

Don't know about you, guys, but I am going to have some fresh fiat on Stamp tomorrow, or the day after. This is too good an opportunity to miss out on! Smiley
3871  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain App on any iPhone - SO EASY!!! on: February 11, 2014, 06:44:55 PM
I've been using iPhones since 3GS (jailbroken since day one, of course), but my patience is wearing thin. My next phone's name will definitely not start from the lowercase-i

By the way, the app is available on Cydia, for us freedom-loving, dictatorship-despising bastards.
3872  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 11, 2014, 03:47:38 PM
whats going on??

The usual. Nothing to worry about. It's just Bitcoin, you know. Keep caml and hodl Cheesy And, if you have funds on an exchange, be ready to buy - place a few optimistically low bids now.
3873  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Very weird activity in my wallet on: February 10, 2014, 10:26:54 PM
I think it's well-explained in the reddit post and the referred topics.

Don't spend from that address until the transaction is rolled back. And if it's not rolled back and you can't make use of Dust-B-Gone, send the entire content of the tainted address through a mixer or through a newly-generated address on an exchange, and then re-generate the exchange's receiving address once again.

That's my understanding of the future actions.

An interesting observation: I got spammed from only the Enjoy address against one of my addresses which was solely used on Eligius pool.

As I said in the PM, sorry. It ended up being a semi-auction, as I didn't want to repeat the last time I sold, when I accepted the first offer, only to get a bunch of better offers later. I received a few PMs this time around as well, and should I have accepted the first offer, I would have been BTC0.11 down.
On the other hand, I didn't want to drag this out, so I set a deadline, giving me a little time in the evening to verify payment, receive all the required details and prepare the package.
I guess I am not good at organising this selling stuff. Smiley

Saludos!

I am again thinking of leaving the markets alltogether. I have never felt so much fear.  Even though I was 80% fiat I was sure the exchanges we're just going to run with the fiat. I do not want to be around when a serious protocol failure actually happens and everything comes tumbling down for real.

Is something wrong with me? Why do I feel no fear now, whereas I felt quite a lot of it during the ride from 200 to 1000, while holding for dear life?
3879  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 10, 2014, 12:46:10 PM
Who else nearly had a heart attack ?

Reporting in with an almost one. Came back from lunch, refreshed BitcoinCharts, and.... well, let's say that all my buy orders got filled. I'm 100% BTC now with more fiat headed for the exchange.

How much for 10 to the UK?

As per OP, it'll be BTC0.163

I would, however, prefer selling everything in one go, and I already have one such offer. Waiting until Monday evening before closing the deal...
