3881  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Solar array starting to look good. on: May 12, 2017, 11:37:51 AM
solar is on our list. already done upgraded insulation, geothermal hvac, new septic for a proposed addition. we have lots of land so would ideally like ground mounted panels, maybe 2-3 kilowatts grid tied.

so many things to get ready for when we retire we just can sit back and relax as cheaply and as comfortable as possible.
3882  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Review of Galax 1070 Katana GPU ( it has arrived) on: May 12, 2017, 11:22:27 AM
that katana single slot seems ok. whats the noise level compared to double wides?

i had a single slot HD4850 back in btc mining days, only problem was the heat sink would clog easily with dust  as fins were so finely pitched. i had to pull it once a month or so and blow the thing out from the back towards to fan. had decent filtering on the rig too.

be nice to pack 3 or 4 of those in a matx board in a smallish case with some serious filtered fans. small, cat proof.

MSI RX + Hynix ram = 5 weeks and counting RMA for me. MSI sucks balls.

yup. been 3 like weeks for my msi hynix 470 gaming x rma so far..

msi just sent my replacement rma for the 470. not sure what card im getting but its on its way.

my 470 hynix failure mode was that when the peg connector was connected the psu would not turn on. without the peg the psu would turn on and the rig would boot but of course the card would not come up and not show up in device manager. must of blown a vrm. card was 1500 strapped with mem at 2100 but core was stock. undervolted at -75 automatic fan controlled by the card.
3884  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU health over time... higher temps or higher fan speed? on: May 10, 2017, 11:23:49 PM
i prefer running fans on the higher side, 70-80%. cooler cards are happier cards.

did lose a fan on an asus 6870 direct cu back in btc mining days but all my other cards fans have survived, some for over a couple years at 24/7 use.

yup. been 3 like weeks for my msi hynix 470 gaming x rma so far..

They just told me yesterday via email that they can't replace/fix their defective cards; they've offered $102.50 per defective card for the cards I paid $350 for Sad.

I told them to go fuck themselves and ship me some working cards, no response as of yet.

damn. well that is the suck.

kinda surprised they dont offer a 570 or something from nvidia.

now im cringing to see what happens to mine..
3886  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v9.3 (Windows/Linux) on: May 10, 2017, 10:59:26 AM
I just wanna know what is causing this OpenCL hangs. If it is something recoverable, than ok, if it's not, than sell it is the way. But what about when the new card will do the same? Again, I need to know the reason for theese hangs.

if its always the same card make sure you have it on the original vbios and run stock clocks. if its on a riser change the riser. inspect the pcie power connectors, they may be loose or otherwise not delivering power reliably. reseat the card in the slot/riser. set the fans on that card to max.

Is it possible to mine with older ATI cards like series 5700 or 6800?

i believe the minimum is 7xxx series.

An RX460 4GB OC will be arriving soon, I'm betting +20MH/s on this $150 card. We'll see...

LOL, expect closer to 11mh:

It has about 1/3rd of the horsepower of a RX 480 from a specs standpoint, with just 14 CUs (RX 480 is 32) and a narrow 128bit memory bus

that link says 2gb...

My HD7950 3GB is doing 20 MH/s ETH & 420 MH/s DCR so the RX460 4GB should do better if you want to break down the 7950's specs.

my 460/4 gets 11-12 mhs on eth and 174 mhs dcr when dual mining
3890  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Using an old Dell Optiplex to mine with on: April 29, 2017, 02:43:44 PM

i had a few optiplexes, cast offs i got for free from work. i5s with 4 gb ram

they are hit or miss. one model worked fine with 3 gpus, one model would not boot with more than 1. cant remember the exact model numbers though, but they were both in the 900 series.

3891  Other / Meta / Re: Where are you 'Iamnotback'? on: April 28, 2017, 01:09:44 PM

thanks for the links

I suggest if you want this post to not disappear, you must quote it numerous times.

Quoting this post means you hate censorship and that you want a decentralized forum with all data stored on a blockchain that no one can manipulate. This is technologically plausible.

@iamnotback appears to still be active on Reddit and on Pastebin both of which are also not trustworthy because some assholes can control the centralized database. All this centralized shit must die and be replaced by decentralized blockchains.

There is no need for mods to have this authority to absolutely censor anything. Each user can choose their own mods, and the data from the blockchain can be filter for the user according to their personal choices. Different users can choose different moderators. This will be a vast improvement in degrees-of-freedom (and thus potential energy) over this forum and other shitty centralized services on the Internet. All of them are going to die, including Facebook and Google. The centralized shit will wither away and Theymos will become irrelevant.

This is war now.

“The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.”

The pattern for LTC is 25 times longer in duration than the corresponding pattern from March.

Thus we'll see a low of 0.0095 more than once before we will see a high 0f 0.05 later this year. Patience is a virtue but taking profits above 0.01 every time is for the wise.

I heard that many users of this forum are still looking for a decentralized forum alternative due to Theymos taking much BTC in donations and then never improving the software of the forum.

The end of this nonsense is near.

I have to wonder whether speculating in the speculation thread was what got you banned or if it was something you said that was a little too close to the structure of a behind-the-scenes plan?

Will be watching price movement. Bitcoin and all of the majors (ETH, XMR, DASH, ZEC, DASH, XRP) are up except for LTC which appears to be inversely correlated. What's especially nice about that is that the possibility exists to remain entirely in crypto without having to jump out to fiat for large trading profits.

Of course, chasing money is an annoying necessity that we could all do without...

The mods deleted this post. I am now creating an copy of this page of this thread at archive.org. The mods are censoring the information that @coinling and others asked me to provide.

they ban shelby but let idiots post crap all over the forum for sig campaigns?

i can guess the ban reason but would like to see the official version.

agree with him or not at least his posts were usually interesting.

Funky artifacts including jagged black triangles on screen

sounds like VRAM that's unstable  (too low voltage, too high clock, too tight timings, etc)

I bet if rip the plate off it says Hynix on those chips. Sad gpu-z is reporting Samsung RAM but it must use a bit of Hynix for something.

OMG stay away from MSI and cards with Hynix RAM or you'll end up so butt-hurt your asshole will drag on the ground behind you as you walk.

what the problem with the hynix all my gpus are hynix and they doing very well, support the most tight timing and clocks and very stable, i got recently 2 samsung and what a pain to make its stable.

I can confirm MSI 470 + hynix memory are somehow fucked. I bought 30 cards like month ago and 7 are dead already. Complete headache. I wish i knew it earlier.

The Armor or Gaming X?

i killed a msi gaming x 470 with hynix ram last week.

I'm sick to death of my miner crashing.  I have six rx 470 8gb sapphire cards and it can run ok for days, then locks up.  Then I have to restart it about 10-20 times because I constantly get the message "Ethdcrminer64.exe has stopped working".  Then I go into GPUZ and see that one of the cards is not reporting data fully.  After 10 restart or so it starts working again, and I get a few more days mining,  sometimes less.

What could be causing this?  All cards are cool, well ventilated running at 74 degrees contant.  this issue is really pissing me off now. All parts are relatively high quality,   EVGA power supply etc.

I am running win 10 64 bit

remove and reseat everything. run memtest86 overnight.

all vbios stock?

I had a wallet with 13 LTC, but i lost the password

Now i can only see I have 13 LTC but they are gone Cheesy

Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

i know that feeling:

i have an armory wallet that has 5 btc in it. did it back when btc was arount 5 bucks or so. i dont remember the password so i am in the same boat. i can fire up armory, look right at it and not be able to do a thing with it..  Roll Eyes

Yeah same it's was line 45$ us at the time ... but wow 5 BTC !! OMG Shocked Shocked Shocked

one of these days ill spend a whole day or something trying every variant of my base passwords. if i get it ill probably convert the whole thing to fiat and  the wife and i will have some fun with it. normally i try to hodl but for this, well..  Smiley

Meanwhile... LTC $16 ... who could have known

yeah it was dormant for so long i had not paid attention. i did get on the train at ~8 bucks, and have slowly added more a bit at a time.

i have an old litecoin wallet backed up somewhere, back from i gpu mined ltc. dont recall how much was in it though. as i recall i sold most of them off during its decline. at that time i didnt have automated backups to my nas (just copied stuff to other drives) so i just gotta find it.
3898  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fourth alt coin thread last three got oversized. on: April 23, 2017, 06:49:13 PM
decred changed mining algo, so Claymore was not working...check out Claymore's thread (new version upcoming).

pretty sure its only suprnova, they changed the header or something.

i am dual mining eth/dcr at nicehash with cdm 9.1  dcr shares are being accepted.
3899  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Panda B3+ Review ! on: April 23, 2017, 12:12:14 PM

You guys who think we shouldn't be dual mining (and some of you dont even want to run on full speed) do you have any information or data to backup the dangers of doing this?

Seems you'd need quite concrete info to forgo dual mining DCR or something else when it's adding ~20-25% more profit.

running a gpu flat out shouldnt hurt it. ive mined btc back in the day and did folding at home for years, so i pushed cards pretty hard. that being said i dual mine my cards. and i think most peoples problems when dual mining are card settings (like flashing new straps, OCing too much, overvolting them), cooling or power related.

full disclosure.. i killed a msi 470 gaming x last week and it was dual mining at the time. cant say that directly killed it as my 4 other cards dual mine fine. and those cards are much older than the msi 470.

the b3 panda gpus..  those look like standard short (itx sized) computer 470 pcie cards. just with custom heatsinks.
3900  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fourth alt coin thread last three got oversized. on: April 23, 2017, 12:00:44 PM
try -esm 3 instead of -esm 0, the 3 flags nicehash mode.

your decred pool is nicehash but your eth pool is not. so not sure how that flag works with a non nicehash pool as primary coin and a nicehash pool for 2nd coin.
