3961  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How can I rollback Bitcoin Core backwards to re-download some blocks again ? on: July 14, 2020, 04:29:51 PM
It can only happen with prune node, not full node. Re setup your prune node storage and resync your prune node. It will resync your wallets to latest blocks that fits the new storage parameter you reset.

Of course, problem might be : you must calculate or estimate as exactly as possible the total size of latest blocks you want to redownload.

Cons: you only can do this for latest blocks and can not do it aims at whatever block you want.

I don't do it in practice, it is my shower thought. I thought that total latest blocks with 50 GB for a prune node will be less than total latest blocks with 60 GB for a prune node. (change prune=x)

Welcome Kawins05 to the forum.

I would prefer to click on links if I know the thread titles. Your kindness to help others are appreciated but if you are on computers, titles should be included.

Titles also help others who want to contribute quickly realize that whether the threads they want to provide to OP are already given by previous commenters. As human, we can more easily remember thread titles rather than thread indentifying numbers. I don't know you included my compilation.

My 2 cents.

  • Local. Before exploring the forum it is good to head start too if you explore your local too because they can correct you immediately and it is easier to understand on your native language you would like to share.
No. Should not if people can read and discuss in English at acceptable levels.

Should not restrict yourself like that. International boards are better and hottest ones, advanced knowledge are available in such international boards. Good locals will translate it into local later but you will be too late and should never depend on their works.

Using local restricts ability to verify right and wrong given information because you don't know answers in international boards.
3963  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Why users are always accused for the vulnerability of Electrum? on: July 14, 2020, 02:32:29 PM
It is user' double faults to believe in pop-up message and don't verify wallets.

Do you call Bitcoin core is vulnerable if user still not upgrade wallet and still use years ago version?

Any wallet people use, verify it.
3964  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Why users are always accused for the vulnerability of Electrum? on: July 14, 2020, 02:23:23 PM
Which vulnerability you meant? Is this what you meant? Critical Electrum vulnerability. It occured 2 years and a half, too long.

People can not blame on Ethereum for past vulnerability if they don't upgrade their wallets to latest version. I know that there are some errors if people don't upgrade their Electrum wallets.

I don't use the feature "Check for updates" in the wallet (Help > Check for updates). It is my carefulness only and people should do this too. I don't simply believe in pop-up message.
I turn it off as following: Preferences > General > Automatically check for software updates

They can check for updates in the wallet but it is not a confirmation for update. After checking in wallet, they must go to official website of Electrum and check for updates.

If there is update, they must verify wallet before using it.
Electrum: You must download Electrum wallet from official website, and must verify wallet. See the guides below to understand how importance it is to verify your wallet and how to do so.
[GUIDE] How to Safely Download and Verify Electrum [Guide]
Electrum wallet - Update safely and avoid phishing wallets?
Verify wallets before installing & using. You'll lose fund if you don't verify

Vulnerability mostly come from user's faults:
- Don't backup their seeds.
- Don't secure backup well.
- Don't set up a password for their wallet or use too bad/ weak password.
- Don't verify wallet
- and so forth.

The Best Change signature campaign is operated stably latest weeks and no new spots open. My chance to join it is lower because my rank is Full Member but I will keep watching the campaign.

I am happy to say I am the one who give Best_Change the last merit he needs to rank up to Senior member rank.  Grin
One month and I am closely to my Senior member rank. Wish all best for the company, the campaign, the team and my personal wish is open positions or campaign expansion in the future.  Smiley

Thank you arwin100. I am very very happy now.  Smiley

I don't know about tax implications in the US. but P2P marketplaces can give you some kinda of freedom when you want to buy and sell bitcoin.

3970  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos! Please ban/disable this phishing link from forum. on: July 14, 2020, 12:03:12 AM
People who haven't earned 1 merit shouldn't be allowed to post link, that will counter somewhat.
The forum is not built for it. It is built for freedom and theymos does not want to have newbies jail again AFAIK.
Limiting newbie participation is very harmful for a community. Newbie jail will never return: I consider the newbie-jail period to have been extremely damaging to the forum. When barriers to participation are too high, then the best people often just won't go to the trouble of joining, and the people who are willing to jump through the hoops are often people who aren't good for the community: people with nothing better to do, scammers, get-rick-quickers, etc. Having a permanent newbie jail policy would improve things a lot in the short-term, but would end up being a fatal poison to the community.

The low signal-to-noise is a real issue which seriously annoys me and is often on my mind. But as you mention, fixing it non-destructively is difficult.

3972  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is CoinJoining/Mixing/Whirlpooling worth it in the end? on: July 13, 2020, 03:55:24 PM
In practice, is mixing only applicable for people who have good fund and not too small? Personally, mixing is the same as transactions and cost transaction fees. It depends on the fund value initially and number of mixing rounds.

If the fund is small, the rest after mixing will be smaller and the percent of lost for fees will be higher than if doing the same with bigger fund.

Choose time to mix is another contributor to result from mixing (in the side of mixing cost). Good time to mix should be in the weekend but people should check mempool before mixing their coins. Mixing is different than consolidation but choosing good time is the same.
[JULY 2020] Fees are low, use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs!
3973  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcasino.io 💜— All you have to know about THETA on: July 13, 2020, 02:51:01 PM
Many cryptocurrencies have been continuously emerging over the years.
In addition to well-known Bitcoin, Etherum, Litecoin, etc we have THETA now.
Bitcasino.io is flexible and listened to requests from community. I appreciated that development and marketing approach from the team. It will be good and a win-win situation for both Bitcasino.io and your community.

I did not notice it last few weeks but today I do, you were ranked up to Sr. member (I realized it due to your signature). Please accept the belated congratulations from me!

3975  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Does blocksize affect speed to sync Bitcoin Core on: July 12, 2020, 03:43:57 PM
It is a simple question as the title presents.

I noticed that when I sync my Bitcoin Core, with same level of connection (shows with WiFi Connection status), the sync speed is different.

When I sync my wallet to 2015 (first half), the speed becomes slower.

I also want to know the method to connect more nodes because I thought more nodes can help me to sync my wallet faster.

I also notice my computer works slowly if I open wallet and sync it, slower than when I don't sync wallet.

Forum account: security, privacy, and recovery
3977  Other / Meta / Forum account: security, privacy, and recovery on: July 12, 2020, 11:20:31 AM
My main concerns is security and privacy and the weekend I have time to learn more about them. The thread is born this way, in the weekend.

Table of Contents

Account security
You can visit the page in 2 ways:
  • Profile - Account Related Settings (for password, secret question) / Forum Profile Information (for birthday, location, gender)
  • Use the link

Password
On the forum, there is a reminder that emphasizes the importance to set up a strong password. Copy and paste the link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;sa=account. You will see the reminder.
Quote
Choose password:
For best security, you should use six or more characters with a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols.
Do you actually set up yours as strong as guided? If you have not yet set it up like that, change yours to a stronger one. If you are still confusing how to set up a good and strong password, I found that topic for you: [GUIDE] How to Create a Strong/Secure Password

Secret question
It is for the past (before data breach in 2015). Now, you should not use it because PSA: ACCOUNTS WILL BE LOCKED IF THE SECRET QUESTION IS USED TO RECOVER IT
and Removing Secret Question already with an answer. Like this user: Busminer account locked, please help to unlock

The forum has its reminder to not use secret question!
Quote
Secret Question:
To help retrieve your password, enter a question here with an answer that only you know. Using this feature is not recommended. Anyone who guesses your secret answer will have access to your account. It's like a second password.

Answer:
Choose carefully, you wouldn't want someone guessing your answer!

Captcha bypass
Captcha bypass
If you care about your privacy, you would use Tor but there is annoying problem with Tor: You will have annoying captcha problems. The admin creates the captcha bypass code for each of you. It gives you more convenience to keep using Tor (for your privacy) while don't violate your comfortableness here. You can use the code to surpass captcha issues and log in as without Tor.

Get your code by clicking on the link: https://bitcointalk.org/captcha_code.php

Disadvantage
Quote
If someone else gains access to your unique captcha-bypass link, then they could try to brute-force your password. In that case, you should reset it:
You see the risk so please make sure to secure your captcha bypass code (store it offline).

Your personal info leak by yourself
What you can leak by yourself?
  • Email
  • Location
  • Birthday
  • Gender
See the following example and avoid doing the same. When you need help (account locked, banned, etc.), you can create a topic to ask for guide to do next from community. In this process, remember don't post full details of yours. Replace your email address, and other personal info by xxxxxxx, or blur them by Paint, Photoshop, etc.
Such info is needed and can be required by forum admins to recover your account. As vital rules, don't leak your real info on online space.

Risks:
Leak them (email, ie.) will put you under attacks of phishing sites, spam emails, etc. It results in risks not only on your forum account but also on your other things (bank accounts, exchange accounts, personal secret things, etc.)
Or how to return account access to this mail xxxxxxxxxxx?

Your Bitcoin Forum ([Suspicious link removed] to xxxxxxxx by IP address xxxxxxxxxxx.

Birthday: set it up and have a birthday cake each year but you should not set it up or if you set it up, you should not use your real birthday. The same rule for location and gender.

Where to set it up?
There: copy and paste the link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;sa=account
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=mysuerid;sa=account, replace myuserid to your userid.
(I took the birthday cake image from Bodykeepers

Stake an address
Stake your address to use it as proof of account ownership later.

Which address is used to stake?
  • Bitcoin (first priority)
  • Ethereum (don't think of it if you can sign a message with Bitcoin wallet).
Ethereum address can be used too but you should always prioritise Bitcoin for your signed message. Additionally, backup that wallet and secure your backup. In future, if your account is hacked, sign a message to prove ownership (from that wallet) is a good evidence to recover your account.

How to sign a message? See following guides
Stake your Bitcoin address here
How to sign a message?

Check seclog and myips pages frequently
https://bitcointalk.org/seclog.php (stores data each 7 days and will be overwritten with new data)
https://bitcointalk.org/myips.php (it does not make sense if you always use Tor)

Account privacy
Your logged IPs for the last 30 days: https://bitcointalk.org/privacy.php

Choose the Limit IP retention for your personal favorite privacy level. Read the About privacy to have more guide details.
Quote
. If you choose it, your Full IP will be stored up to 6 months.
Limit IP retention:
Reduce the retention of your future logged IP addresses. This will make it far more difficult to recover your account if it is ever stolen; make sure that your email address is correct and that you have staked a public key.

Account recovery
Please bookmark those threads and read them at least once to have knowledge on how recovery process works. And use them just in case your account is locked, hacked, frozen, etc. Follow those guides to recover your account and you have to be patient.
