41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: March 02, 2021, 10:47:03 AM
I have never had a problem buying/selling/trading in person.  Mostly on Craigslist.

Items I have sold:

Cars
Generators
Transfer switches
Large fish tanks
Air Compressor
Metal brake

Items I have purchased:

Large fish tanks
Generators

Items I have traded:
9mm Glock for a metal brake

All were really nice people, including the guy that I traded my 9mm to.  Maybe I just got lucky...

I have also sold a bunch of GPUs, but those were all on eBay and [H]ardforum.  Out of about 40 GPUs sold on eBay, I had issues with 2 of the buyers, but in both cases eBay/PayPal ruled in my favor.

Last month eBay has me convert to link my account to my checking account, cutting out PayPal as the middle man.  I think that will be a good thing, but we'll see.

Is the consensus to mine Octopus (CFX) using the Nicehash pool or something like woolypooly (currently has 39% of the CFX hashrate according to https://miningpoolstats.stream/conflux)
43  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New 10 KW Solar Mining Project on: February 28, 2021, 02:04:09 AM
Hi crazydane! am I seeing this right, are you selling your power back to the grid @ $.12 KWh?

Yep.  With a net metering agreement, I pull from the grid @$.12 and if I produce more than I consume, I push the excess back into the grid at the same rate.
44  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New 10 KW Solar Mining Project on: February 27, 2021, 10:25:43 PM
I totally agree that one should mine 24/7.  I have a 50 KW solar array that is grid tied with net metering.

I sold almost all of my GTX 1000 series GPUs back in November/December and got 5700 XTs to replace them.  I have been able to score a few RTX 3000 series cards as well.

So my power draw from mining is currently right around 4,000 watts 24/7:

Don't take Awesome Miner's word for it, here's the real power draw and AM has been adjusted to match:  (Yes, I had a rig fall over last night which is why the power draw dropped below 4,000)

4,000 watts per hour works out to 96 kWh a day, or about 2,918 kWh a month.

Here's my solar production for 2020:

The orange bars represent solar production, the green ones consumption.  The green ones are misleading because my rigs are not in the shop building during the winter (where they can be measured by the device that is capturing production).  I keep my rigs in my house where they assist with heating during the cold months.

Anyway, total production was 67,200 kWh, or 5,600 kWh per month on average.  That works out to about 185 kWh per day, or 7,700 watts per hour.

I'm located in Virginia, so depending on your location, you might do better or worse with 50 KW worth of panels.

With 10 KW, you should average about 37 kWh per day, which would be enough to power a 1,500 watt rig 24/7 when averaged out for a year.

46  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: NVIDIA is cutting the 3060's Hash Rate in Half & NEW Mining specific GPU's on: February 19, 2021, 12:48:51 PM
Their dedicated mining GPUs are terrible from an efficiency standpoint.

The 90HX only does 86 MH/s @ 320 watts.

My 3080's do 100 MH/s @ 230 watts and my 3090 does 122 MH/s @ 295 watts.

The 50HX is pretty bad too at 45 MH/s @ 250 watts.  My 3+ year old 1080Ti's do about 45 MH/s as well @ 180 watts.

My 5700 XT's do 57 MH/s @ 110 watts or so.

I wouldn't touch those "mining cards" with a 10 foot pole....
47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: January 24, 2021, 01:22:06 PM
PayPal just sent me a 1099K since all the used graphics cards I sold on eBay during 2020 added up to more than $20k.

The thing is, I sold them all at a loss (paid ~$750 for my 1080Ti's back in 2017 that I sold for ~$500, for example).

I file using TurboTax and the only option I see for entering what I paid for these GPUs, is to enter an overall beginning of 2020 inventory value and a end of 2020 inventory value, which isn't really going to work I don't think.

Anyone else get a 1099K from PayPal that use TurboTax for filing, and if so, how did you enter this "hobby business" expense?

Guess this might be the year that I consult a tax advisor instead of just using TurboTax self-employed version...

Got a RTX 3090 today (EVGA Hybrid).  It loves power, but is quite efficient.  It pretty much matches BIOS modded 5700XT's at around 380 kW/W.

Note that the power readings for the AMD rigs include +35% to account for RAM, fans, etc, which are not part of the GPU power consumption mining programs reports:

Phil, btw, I sold all 26 of my 1080Ti's over the last week.  Got $499 for almost all of them within 24 of posting on eBay.  All my 1070's went for around $210 and my 1070Ti's went for $289.  Quite a number of them I purchased from you back in early 2018.  My 1080Ti's are all from fall 2017, so I have 3+ years mining 24/7 on them, so getting $450 after fees is a very decent return after they have already paid themselves off at least 2 times over.  I'm glad I waited until everyone realized that 3000 series (and AMD 6000 series for that matter) are pretty much impossible to get, which has really driven up the value of the 1000 series cards.

I'd love to snatch about 30 3060Ti's @$399, but it doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon.  I was at 2.4GH on Eth before I dumped all my 1000 series cards.  Would like to get back to that with 3000 series cards (don't really like the hassle of getting AMD cards running stable and the hassle of flashing the BIOS with memory straps).
49  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ATI 5700 vgpu lower than 750mV? on: November 05, 2020, 11:39:10 AM
I have a mix of Sapphire Pulse 5700XT (x4) and ASRock 5700XT (x2) and average around 57 MH per card @125 watts.  This is the core watts, so you need to add 35% to get to what the entire card consumes (memory, fans, etc).

All mine are BIOS modded using AMDflash 2.93 after first extracting the rom using GPU-Z.

wow, thanks for sharing, these are interesting numbers!
Could you tell us what model of video card you have? 5700 xt Sapphire Nitro? MSI?
Did you make BiosMod?
Thanks

One rig has 4 Sapphire Pulse cards and yes, all are bios modded.  Each card has its own personality as far as how low I can bring the power before it starts to fall over.  Same with mem clock.

Yes, the 6900XT is 65% more efficient compared to the 6800XT which is about 50% more efficient (both compared against the 5700 XT).
52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: October 29, 2020, 07:40:29 AM
Isn't it possible the Infinity Cache will improve ETH performance?  Perhaps once tweaks are done in the mining software?
53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 3070 Gigabyte Hashrates thread on: October 29, 2020, 07:34:13 AM
My 5700XT's do 57 MH/s and consume 110 watts (core).  Power at the wall is about 35% higher (to account for VRAM and various other components on the GPU card).  So a grand total of about 150 watts.

Given that the 5700XT can be had for around $400, it makes it a much better deal than the 3070 for mining (at least for ETH) and I bet the power efficiency is also better.

What I'm really looking forward to, is the hashrate / efficiency of the 6800XT, which claims 50% better power efficiency compared to the 5700XT series.  Based on the announcement yesterday, the cost will be $649 and will be available on November 18th.  It trades blows with the 3080, so I expect around 100 MH/s and less than 200 watts of power.

Hi Patrik,

Email sent.

Thanks!
55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Awesome Miner] - Powerful Windows GUI to manage and monitor up to 200000 miners on: September 20, 2020, 01:41:03 PM
One of my rigs is running Ubuntu 20.04 desktop with 2 GPUs as follows:

GPU 0 EVGA 1070Ti PCI Bus ID 1
GPU 1 MSI 1070 PCI Bus ID 2

Both are showing up in the GPU tab and both are hashing.

However, for some reason I'm only able to control the power and clock settings for GPU 0.

When I go to tools/GPU clocking, only GPU 0 is showing up.

All my other rigs, mostly running nvOC (Ubuntu based) and Win10, do not have this issue.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Phil,

I picked up a 5600 (the deal you linked to on Newegg), to play with to see if I want to get more.

Did you update your BIOS or just run them like they came? (I didn't see where a BIOS was available for this particular SKU)

I tried it on HiveOS and it would only hash at 13MH @45W.  Kinda weird.  Threw it on a Win10 rig and got around 40MH.  Not sure about power usage since HWiNFO is reporting about 90W, but Awesome Miner (AM) is showing around 115W.  Not sure which is right...  This is using the settings you recommended.

Might try putting it on a SMOS rig next to see what I get.  I'm mostly running Ubuntu 20.04 on my rigs and controlling them from AM.  I purchased a 20 rig license back in 2017 before Patrick went monthly fee per rig like everyone else.

Almost scored a 3080 yesterday.  Had it in my cart at nvidia.com, but when I got my payment info entered and submitted, I got an error that my address could not be left blank.  (it was not blank)  I guess server issues.  Will keep F5'ing over the weekend and into early next week, and then turn my attention to the 3090 if I don't score by then.  lol

ps.  Still on the fence about selling my GTX 1000 GPUs.  Made almost $160 with them yesterday...

What is everyone running as the OS when using the Linux remote agent?

Ubuntu 20.04 desktop edition or server edition or something completely different?

I'd like to keep my OS install as lean as possible but wasn't sure of it is a pain to install the graphics drivers on the server edition (or if it is even supported).

EDIT: I went ahead and installed 20.04 on a test rig with a single 1070.  Added the latest Nvidia driver and screen (not part of base desktop install) and of course the remote agent.

Added the new rig to AM and created a GPU Clocking Profile.

Started mining, which is working fine, but the GPU Clocking Profile is being ignored.

Are GPU clocking profiles not supported on Ubuntu?

EDIT2:  Will AM automatically start the ETH pill on rigs with 1080/1080Ti GPUs?

I'm thinking of selling my now 2 gen old GPUs.  I checked sold listing on eBay as of yesterday and averaged the selling prices for the last few days.

Here is the issue with eBay. A wise miner once said "The best time to sell mining equipment is usually when its the highest chance of getting screwed" it might of been phil if I recall correctly.

The reason why is because they usually side with the buyer and what happens is people buy ASICs or GPUs on eBay. Then shortly after the difficulty can go up or price can go down and it might not longer be profitable and they will just open up a Paypa dispute saying "GPUs are not as described" and you will have to accept the return and sometimes they bill you for the return shipping.

Best is to just sell it on FB marketplace or Craiglist and get cash instead. Hence no refunds possible.

better yet offer them here at bargain rates

a 1080ti for 300usd.

payable in btc. and  sold here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=75.0

is like selling  one for 380 on eBay as the fees hurt your sale price

I can help you with escrow. If you sell them here.

pm me

Appreciate the feedback all!  Dumping them all here in the market place forum does sound pretty appealing, especially if someone would be interested in buying several all at once.  The 1080Tis are almost all EVGA SC or SC2 ones.  Would probably sell off the oddball ones on eBay, like my 4 MSI 1080Ti open loop water cooled ones since they are not really appealing to miners.  Just about all cards have original boxes and all original accessories.

I like the idea of having a mix of 1080Ti's, 5600's and 3080's.  My rigs are all mostly identical Asus PRIME Z270-A mobos with those 2400W server PSU's that are 94% efficient I got from Parallel Miner a while back.

I have never mined with AMD cards before, so that would be a whole new experience.  I use Awesome Miner to manage all the rigs.  Rigs are running mostly nvOC (Ubuntu) but a few are on Win10.

I had all my rigs on MPT Zcoin for the better part of a year, and switched to ETH to catch this recent wave where I saw North of $175/day, but am now back to about $75/day with most rigs back on MPT as it is slightly more profitable for me.

I'll put together a complete inventory list and PM you Phil.

I'm thinking of selling my now 2 gen old GPUs.  I checked sold listing on eBay as of yesterday and averaged the selling prices for the last few days.

It looks like the going rates are better than I thought. (I would never pay the below prices myself)  Here's a breakdown of what I have that combined does around 2,100 MH/s on ETH:

25 1080Ti @ $380  = $9,500
1 1080 @ $300 = $300
14 1070Ti @ $260 = $3,640
16 1070 @ $194 = $3,104

So a grand total of $16,544 less eBay 10% = $14,890.  But a more realistic net is probably around $10k

2,100 MH/s is about 23 3080 GPUs (assuming 90 MH/s) @ $699 = $16,077

My current mix of 1000 series cards consume right around 8,000 watts

23 3080's would drop that almost in half to 4,600 watts (assuming 200 watts per GPU)

I guess another option would be to pickup 40 5700s @ $350 = $14,000

The 5700s would consume 5,200 watts (assuming 130 watts per GPU)

My power is essentially free since I have 50kW worth of solar panels that produce enough kWh to keep the mining rigs running 24/7.

Dump my 1000 series cards while they still have some value, or just keep mining with them until they die?  What would you do?
60  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: August 08, 2020, 06:23:55 PM
Haven't posted here in a long time.  I've been mining non-stop since 2017 and for the last year plus, just with my GPUs (55 total, mostly 1080Ti's) and with my 50Kw of solar, that is covering my power cost 100%.

Phil all those GPUs you sold me way back when are all still going strong!   Grin
how does 50kw cover 55 gpus ? 10kw won’t even cover one rig 24/7 or do u only mine during the day?

207 panels in total with an average rating of about 270 watts.  So total DC power is actually a little over 55,000 watts.

The GPU rigs consume about 9 kW 24/7.  I then have some exhaust fans running as well, so the actual daily power consumption is around 215 kWh.  For the month of July, my average daily production was 237 kWh, so a little but more than what my rigs consumed.  On cool and clear spring and fall days, I peak out at around 350 kWh of production per day.

During the winter months I of course produce less.  January of this year averaged 128 kWh a day, so not quite enough to power the mining rigs.  However, I keep the rigs up at the house during the winter, so I don't need to run my heat pump at all, is it balances out.

I have net metering with the power company, so on sunny days I pump way more kWh back into the grid that I consume, and I then pull it back out at night or on rainy days.  It is all kWh based, so no funny business with me paying them like 12 cents per kWh to draw from the grid and they only payment me a fraction of that when I push power into the grid.  Around my parts, the cost per kWh is constant 24/7 365 days a year.
