41  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience NewPac / Terminus R606 (BM1387) Official Support Thread on: August 15, 2019, 08:57:33 PM
No one any advice on which OS runs the best with the CGminer and OrangePi (RaspberryPi)?

for RaspberryPI's we run Rasbian, a flavor of Debian specifically written for the pi's. We dont have any test of OrangePi's or examples. Your work if you can get it going would be invaluable.

When you run cgminer, are you supplying any command line parameters or just running it as "./cgminer"?

Anyone waiting on stock from our store, NewPac USB miners are back in stock.
43  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Terminus R606 750GH (up to 1TH) quiet miner, now shipping on: August 09, 2019, 12:51:33 PM
what I would see as a problem with the above scenario is if in order to get the stick miner orders rushed out that it causes a delay in the orders for the R606 which were placed before the stick miner orders.

I can tell you I have not seen that, our orders are always filled in the order they are placed.

Hey Guys and girls, Though I would interject here and while I can't speak for Sidehack, I can tell you whats going on from a re-sellers point of view.

So I bet some of you have noticed that Bitcoin is back in the spotlight again and this recent FOMO rush caused EVERY supplier to sell out of inventory. This rush on inventory caused a rush on orders. The first thing to sell out were of course, the NewPac USB Stick Miners. Because 2+2 = Fish, all suppliers placed huge NewPac orders with GekkoScience. Being who he is, Sidehack rushed to get all of these huge orders fulfilled (ours included). Now that things are beginning to catch up, I would expect to see the other orders, R606's, Base hubs, and even newer tech coming out of GekkoScience.

I know that doesn't directly answer the question but honestly, its the best we can give at the moment. I know 419Mining, LLC has a "wait list" you can subscribe to for notices on product availability, I'm sure others do as well.

If your looking for our waitlist, on the product page, just below the out of stock status. You do need an account to sign up though.

Thanks for the update mstrozier.

Ya we are seeing the problem with the Pi3 as the muxing of the USB ports to a single USB 2.0 port. To quote the manufacturer

Quote
The USB host port inside the Pi[3] is an On-The-Go (OTG) host as the application processor powering the Pi, BCM2835, was originally intended to be used in the mobile market: i.e. as the single USB port on a phone for connection to a PC, or to a single device. In essence, the OTG hardware is simpler than the equivalent hardware on a PC.

as for the pi 4,

Quote
For the Pi 4, a fully-featured host controller drives the downstream USB ports. Downstream USB is provided by a Via Labs VL805 chip - that supports two USB 2.0 ports and two USB 3.0 ports. This is connected to the BCM2711 SoC using a PCIe link, which is extremely fast. Therefore, the Pi 4 does not have the speed constraints of previous models, which means very fast datarates, especially when using the USB 3.0 ports.

you can read more here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/hardware/raspberrypi/usb/README.md

There are a few things we found with the Pi 3B+ during our investigations (these are not a guarantee get it working at higher speeds, just finding we are documenting and though we should share)

1> the Wifi is a separate chip than the Ethernet over USB2.0 Microchip LAN7515 chip. Even though you may get better speeds wired than wifi, your eating USB bandwidth if used wired.
2> There is an issue with USB 3.0 hubs in conjunction with the some USB devices and the Raspberry Pi. A bug in most USB 3.0 hub hardware means that the Raspberry Pi cannot talk to full- or low-speed devices connected to a USB 3.0 hub. USB 2.0 high-speed devices, including USB 2.0 hubs, operate correctly when connected via a USB 3.0 hub so avoid connecting low- or full-speed devices into a USB 3.0 hub. As a workaround, plug a USB 2.0 hub into the downstream port of the USB 3.0 hub and connect the low-speed device, or use a USB 2.0 hub between the Pi and the USB 3.0 hub, then plug low-speed devices into the USB 2.0 hub.
3> because everything is handled by the SoC and a single port USB. limit the pi to as little services as possible and we even recommend overclocking if you are able. The Pi USB2.0 bandwidth is directly proportional to how much load the Pi SoC can handle. If you can disable Xwindows and run via SSH, you will get better performance.

We ship R606's to Australia for roughly $60 for USPS shipping with Insurance, and I believe AU has a 10% VAT so $30 for import fees means the total shipping cost would be around $90 + the cost of the R606. Though please don't quote me on that.
47  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Just jumped in. Installed NewPac. CGminer repeating Stratum from pool detected on: July 12, 2019, 09:46:31 PM
If nicehash accepts my old CPU's H/s hashes, why won't they allow my 22 GH/s hashes from the ASICS?

Remember, my cpu's aren't actually mining, i'm doing their "sell your hash power" program, and I'm trying to get my NEWPAC to participate in that same program. They do have a webpage devoted to using your SHA256 ASICS and selling their hash power, so I know ASICS are supported in their sell your hash power program.

sorry, if I  wasn't clear. Nicehash is accepting hashes from your ASICs when your ASIC submits a share that is above the pools minimum share size. So the current difficulty is 9.06T   and the pool says, "I wont accept anything less than 500M", your ASICs are still working, they just haven't found anything over 500M YET. the Best Share listed on the cgminer screen is the best hash you have submitted so far since cgminer started.

I always recommend new miners read a few articles on how hash mining works, here are a few of my favorites to get you started

The fans push down, moving as much as as possible over the NewPac heat sinks. As for the hubs, don't daisy chain or you will end up having USB bandwidth issues which cause missing nonces.

... Where are you guys getting the Pi 4 from?  Newegg doesn't have them and that is where I usually buy my tech from since they accept Bitcoin.

I have a bulk on order from Newark, but they are always on back order right now.

syn00ack, welcome to the group!

So you are hashing but your mining on nicehash and they are autosetting your difficulty to around 500M. From you post your best share so far was  6.87K so unless your work share is greater than 500M, you wont see a submission.

Thx, even more complete answer. I am going to try 7 newpac per hub.

Just watch your total power consumption. You cant use more than the input. If you look at it as Watts of power, 12V 8A input would give you 96 Watts of power. 96 watts for 7 newpacs is 13Watts per unit or at 5V, 2.6A per unit... and that doesnt take power loss into account. you may find your more around a limit of 2.3A per unit.

Are you running into a usb bandwith issue on the pi?

I agree with gt_addict, we have noticed the pi's have a hard time with excessive bandwidth. I have a few pi4's on order to see if it makes a difference. they support full USB 3.0 though, so that may be a completely different challenge.

@Gage-Miner, when you run one of your R606's individually, what is your frequency and your hash rate?

No, the GekkoScience Hub needs alot more power than the 1.5 amps that offers. The recommended is 8 amps if using a barrel type (Laptop style) or 10 amps if your using 6Pin power connector.

We carry both a 7A and 8A barrel connector version that have been approved by GekkoScience. I would recommend you use the 8A, or barring that, use a PC power supply that has a spare PCIE 6 pin Power cable free.

the 7 port black one and the 8 port metal one are very similar, the big difference being port 1 was split from the 5/2 group to its own 2A fuse, giving you a full 6A between the two other ports.  Then the 8th port add-on to the port 1 fuse was a freebie to give an extra power port for things like fans and raspberry pi's.

All sellers should be selling the same "batch" now. All first "batch" units that suppliers still had in stock were updated to be the same as new production.

Just got a R606 miner today. All was good until i booted up cgminer and got the error message "No devices found". My mining controller is a macbook pro that runs mac os 10.12 (High sierra). cgminer version is 4.11.1. How do i get this miner to hash on mac?

This is actually a common problem on mac thats discussed in the first post Q/A section, you need to remove your VCP drivers.

Here is a link to step by step Pi setup instructions

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5053833.msg50968875#msg50968875

Also check the top post for Pi instructions as well

Gems, I would follow these instructions and start over, I don't believe you are running the latest version of cgminer, that would help immensely.
