43  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] microCoin MRC - Scrypt-Jane - nFactor - BOUNTIES - Released! on: January 16, 2014, 05:26:46 AM
The only issue is that there are only a hand full of us that are really supporting the coin right now and we are the ones that are going to burn a lot of electricity pushing the network to the higher rewards, what is going to suck is that other ppl are just going to wait for the high rewards and then start mining when we hit block 160k. If this is the case then I'd rather have the coin have a fixed reward right now. I'm sure I'm not the only one tht feels this way

Why would people wait for block 160k which is when the rewards start dropping?

If everyone is currently GPU mining and gaining x blocks per y time, then the nFactor makes it harder, everyone would drop by the same amount and should be mining the exact same amount of blocks relative to what they were before the hashpower drop.

Am I misunderstanding this? If hashpower drops across the board, so does difficulty, that's the whole point.

I've been mining blocks with the same frequency today as I was yesterday.
Well I was expecting this coin to blow up by the time we hit the higher blocks lol
but I know what you mean its not like we're mining much less after the drop in hash but what if the drops occur more often and rapidly then our progression through the blocks?

That still won't make any difference because the difficulty will always retarget to match the hashrate so that the target time of 1 block every 32 seconds is always [roughly] met.

The main post doesn't mention how often difficulty retargets, but if it's every block then we certainly would never have to worry and it means we'd reach block 160,000 at the same time regardless of whether there are 5 people mining or 5 million.

Works fine for me on Win 7 64 bit.

Also I don't think there'd be any way to change the difficulty/rewards/nfactoring without forking it.

Is it really such a big issue? It was outlined from the start how it would ramp up over 1-2 weeks.

I think a professional logo would be very helpful in advertising MRC.

Earthcoin is a good example of how high quality advertising material really helps. You can see examples here: http://www.earthcoin.biz/eac_marketing.html

I think some nice flat designs would suit microCoin well.

52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] LOTTO COIN - The coin thats a game! Released 12/12/13 on: January 15, 2014, 05:15:21 AM
personally the introduction of doge has pretty much skewered the entire system..

I estimate another month or 2 before a majority of the December adopters drop out cos they aren't seeing enough returns/profitability.. god knows the shit storm of crap coins we had mid to late dec would have knocked out a third of the December adopters when they realized the coins they mined is basically dead..

we had some remarkable ALTS.. so far.. cage which died withing 45 minutes of coinedup... GFT which basically had a dev code a lousy difficulty retarget and now that all the early adopters left it takes a day for one confirmation next retarget is probably in april lol.. 2 versions of NYAN both died because they were launched within hours of each other.. MOON which pretty much gets the award for worst launch ever opened up an exchange within hours of launch and basically imploded on its way to lowest price..

Kitteh was launched at coinedup to early so it kinda died as no-one in kitteh wanted to market it till logo was changed...after that dev handed over responsibility to a new dev team.. so they are working at it quietly.. could be interesting when they relaunched.

LOT got lost in the scramble with doge we launched just after doge so the prices speculated just couldnt keep up with the coins that are in circulation also no real attempt was made to hype up the coin which is fine as we  don't have to deal with the reality of a coin crashing from 300 satoshi to 26.. EAC while interesting looks to be headed towards being a pump and dump for quite awhile until it either stabilizes or dies..

on the whole its been an exciting and crazy period for this newbie.. started on december 3rd and i've seen so much of crazy shit i feel like a veteran Tongue

This is a good post, I feel like I've also been on the same rollercoaster and I've found it all fascinating. Even if I end up losing what I invested, it has still all been a really entertaining hobby

I did a bit of research into the premine and thought I'd share it with people because I found it pretty interesting...

A lot of the premine hasn't been spent or even claimed! It's been sent to addresses that haven't even received it yet.

All of these examples have been taken by following block 1 (with 270,000,000 premine in) through all the transactions until the end of the chain.

First 50m
Second 50m
40m Unclaimed (the ~10m output ends up unredeemed)
Third 50m
Some 18.5m unclaimed

There are a few more:
~15m
5m #1
5m #2
~4m
2.5m

This all tallies up to a massive 240,000,000 of the original 270,000,000 premine that hasn't even been touched yet.

One thing I got from this is that it isn't the dev that's dumping... Most of the transactions leading up to the last one with the unclaimed amounts were small amounts that looked like giveaways with a few bigger transactions of a couple million to what could be personal accounts (and one exchange where it had a LOT of inputs/outputs).

The only bad thing that you could perhaps take from this is that only 30,000,000 out of the 270,000,000 has been spent (on giveaways and perhaps some on personal too, I have no way of knowing what was given out and what's been kept/moved around by dev etc obviously).

Thought it was interesting and would share with you guys.

Disclaimer: This is all my own research and opinion, draw your own conclusions from it.
Edit: Could also have missed some transactions in my search so that more is unclaimed than I have stated

This is indeed quite interesting, thanks!

I'm still in EAC for the long haul, but it certainly won't help the future of the coin if it stays low for any sort of extended period

One small request to developers: the transaction log shows the time when the payment actually hit the wallet, instead of when the transaction was made. Would it be possible to change it so that when I start the computer after beeing off for some time, I could see times when transactions took place?
Thank you.

This is a good request, I've found myself wishing for that while using the QT but didn't actually think to ask if something could be done about it. +1

So many people immediately dumping meaning the price goes way down. Just wait at least an hour you silly people then it can go up before you sell, instead of everyone undercutting each other and sending the price to the floor

So Earthcoin won the vote to be added to Coinpayments: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=397540.msg4454026#msg4454026

This is some good news! I used coinpayments just the other day and it was a very simple system.
