Moin Movement League Update

In our first two weeks of the Moin Movement League we had 8 signups and as a surprise reward we hooked everyone who signed up with the 1st place reward this week.  Really appreciate people taking the time to sign up and had a couple good discussions this week about improving the league /moin movement.  I added a simple roster/leader board to the page http://www.moinmovement.org/movement-league.html.  Over the next two weeks we will try this experiment out and see if we can get some progress made in regards to the league itself and other moin community building/marketing.

Moin Movement League



I am very happy to announce that signup for the Moin Movement League are now open!  This is a throwback to our IRC days when we used to have weekly tasks people would complete and then the top contributors get rewarded in MOIN.  We came up with some basic tasks to get this period started you can check them out @ http://www.moinmovement.org/movement-league.html . Then head over to the sign up page: http://www.moinmovement.org/sign-up.html and signup.  The first period is going to be two weeks long.  If we get some people participating then we can make a leaderboard and other stuff like that for the webpage too.  A lot of the tasks that are up currently relate directly towards making the MML better so bring those ideas and lets spread the word about MOIN!

It sounds like it is working correctly to me 5o5kY.

MOIN uses PoS 3.0 has some differences from older versions I will explain a little and maybe it will help to understand how and why.

Moin's stake reward is set to 10%. that means that if you sum up the stake reward for a year on the chain you will find that the total amount of MOIN has grown by 10%.

This means that for people actively staking, no matter how many MOIN they hold, if they stake 24/7/365, they can be guaranteed 10%.  It also means that if you do not have many coins you can be granted more than 10% because that percentage reflects the entire count of MOIN in circulation.  The actual staked coins are shared among the subset of MOIN holders who participate in supporting the network.

Conversely (and perhaps just as important) it means that a large holder who does NOT stake 24/7 is not guaranteed 10%.  You can compare that to older versions of PoS where people would leave their wallets offline most of the time to build up "coinage" and then they would simply be rewarded a bunch without supporting the network an equal share.

For 5o5kY what that all amounts to is that sometimes network conditions are favorable to them and they receive more reward. Calling it "luck" makes sense.  Hopefully though this post helps explain why when you do not see these "extra" rewards it does not indicate a problem with the chain.

That whitepaper I mentioned in the last update is still floating around getting feedback and proof reading.   It will be exciting to see the final document when it is ready.

Yobit code swaps is very nice way to get coins stuck on yobit involved.  I completed swapping my Ucoin last week.  The swap platform was really clean and easy to use.  I'm looking forward to seeing if this project can get some momentum.

Laptop raffle results

The laptop raffle has concluded! There were a total of 3820 tickets purchased but only one could win. The winner ended up being transaction 8968d265ecd53ab457f03b9442981e96bae69be2f6973fca0f9582469979f161 . The input address associated with the transaction has been sent a message via in wallet messaging to get information on where to ship the prize. Im hearing rumblings from the development room about a MOIN whitepaper being written. This is something people have asked for many times and so I imagine it is also good to hear that progress is being made. I think we should hear more about this in the next days and weeks.

Hello everyone.  Time for another brief MOIN fortnightly update.  We will take a look at the submissions so far in the ongoing raffle, check in with the team, and as always encourage you to come get involved. Let's get going!

Laptop raffle update

The laptop raffle is half way through submissions now and so on the next bi weekly update we will be announcing a winner!  I thought it would be nice to tally up the submissions so far and share them with you all.  So far there have been 32 transactions that have bought a total of 213 tickets. Not too shabby!

Moin paper wallet design

Some folks were interested in a paper wallet and Axllht wanted me to pass along that he gave the MOIN touch to a design this week that he hopes to have ready very soon.  It looks great and just needs to be wired into the paper wallet generator code.

Hello lovely Moin community.  I am excited to be getting back in the swing of our bi-weekly updates here.  Moin and crypto in general finished 2017 incredibly strong and our community has been growing faster than ever.  This week has some cool announcements in it so be sure to read the details!

Community Growth

Proof of stake is the method by which proof of stake blockchains, such as MOIN, generate blocks. If there are no stakers then there will be no blocks and therefore no transactions.  I recommend doing a google search for proof of stake and start learning. It has been explained in detail (you could check out the whitepapers! ) by many people, including those that invented it.

yeah i failed to provide the biweekly update the last few rounds I take full responsibility for that.  I will try to do a better job to post those updates every two weeks even if they are very brief.

I totally agree with you about caring less about the price and more about the community that is exactly what i want to work on.  We are making progress in that realm from my perspective.  People are joining, making suggestions and starting to help.  Lots more chat going on now than even 2 weeks ago.  As community members find they want to stick with MOIN we will be able to find more common ground to stand on and suss out individual strengths as the community's power will be the sum of our collective effort.

The chatrooms are nicely consolidated right now but I still feel we are a little spread out information wise between reddit and bitcointalk and other forums and social media.  I am aware of this and try to disseminate information across all channels of MOIN discussion. as we grow it will be helpful for community members to also help with spreading info when it seems important

what makes a coin alive?

I'm not going to spend many posts or energy on it but I will say I think anyone accusing MOIN of being anything other than a coin and community is totally clueless.  They have missed core truths of coin trading and decentralization in general.  In particular they have missed the fact that these systems have a constantly fluctuating and anonymous user base.  The fact is a person or bunch of persons bought a lot of MOIN the other day it has nothing to do with the validity of the project. 

From my perspective we are trying to build a top tier crypto currency and community. If you are interested in being part of that come join us, bring your ideas.  If you are a person that looks for a coin to go up so you can take advantage of it financially on a quick time frame YOU are the pump and dump, WE are the ones that will still be here a year from now regardless of what the price of MOIN is.

The reason there might be a coin swap is because many improvements are contained within the PART codebase which can be advantageous to MOIN.  For one example having that upgraded codebase helps position MOIN for interoperability with other chains in the future.  In the case of a swap you would need to actively participate.  So in that way you could not simply forget about your MOIN, have the swap pass, and come back.  However, the swap seems to still be a ways off and KingCaper gave me the impression that the swap length would be many months long when we do reach that phase.

The staking rewards are paid out in the same way other PoS 3.0 coins are.  You can find technical details about it by searching but all you need to do to earn your rewards is have the wallet running, synced,with coins in it, unlocked.
