41  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Zero Reserve - A distributed Bitcoin Exchange on: June 08, 2014, 11:56:57 AM

No, you can buy Bitcoins without having any.

So I will buy real Bitcoins with these IOUs I guess?

Exchanges are designed to facilitate trades between strangers...

That is what ZR does. Even if you do buy from a friend, you would not know. Every deal is "remote",

Zero Reserve is somewhat hard to explain - you need to use it. Just get the code and everything will fall into place.

So when saying 'friends', what you exactly meant is 'retroshare friends'?
42  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Zero Reserve - A distributed Bitcoin Exchange on: June 08, 2014, 11:31:10 AM
Hmmm.....it does look like people are more into the Ripple-style IOUs, then really solving the banking problem. Roll Eyes
There's a difference here: you don't owe to some huge corporation but your friends.

For many people, the problem is they are owed by some huge corporations, it's not like when it comes to debts your friend is exactly more credible than some huge corporations. Also, if the debts can only be exchanged between friends, why not just go buying bitcoins from them with cash/bank transfer?(especially the assumption here is you already trust them)

Also ZeroReserve uses Bitcoin instead of XRP.

Does that mean I have to have some bitcoins before I can trade? That doesn't sound really ideal.

IMHO ZeroReserve has great potential to improve Bitcoin's exchange situation.

Exchanges are designed to facilitate trades between strangers, especially when it comes to large amount trading. Also there are other alternatives, but nobody pays attention.

Cool

Roll Eyes

Grin

I think there's definitely price manipulation going on, like, on this thread.
54  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Founder of Ripple is announcing he is dumping his XRP. Ripple crashes 35% and st on: May 23, 2014, 12:05:48 AM
It's stupid that I am the first to bring that up but here it is.

JED probably cares enough about his own money that he won't exhaust the order-book with his sales but essentially do it automated based on liquidity. Essentially, in his case prolonging the process of cashing out over his whole expected lifetime.

If he cared solely about his own money, the way to make the most would be to not tell people in advance. Smiley

Yes, exactly.  There is more going on here than we are privy to.

And, no, this isn't FUD to get the price to drop to buy "cheap coins."  Approximately 80% of the coins are owned by Ripple Labs, and another 9% or so by Jed.  The entire premise that XRPs were a store of value was flawed, even if you believe the ripple concept is useful as a global hawala network.

You need them to worth something to be able to move any amount of money, unless you buy into the whole IOU stuff of course.
55  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The CEO of BTC China :it will not ban virtual currency completely on: May 21, 2014, 07:26:53 PM
Actually the crudest method usually works the best, that's, when you have the right audience and a profitable model.

Caoliu, the biggest Chinese porn site ever, which is hosted as a forum on which dissident speeches are not censored, has millions of members, most of them Mainland Chinese and is making millions of dollars every year, what they do to evade the GFW is simply to redirect the traffic to a new IP address every once in a while, with the domain name being accessible on a variety of places after Captcha checking, etc.

When people want to watch porn, you just can't stop them.
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Proof of stake instead of proof of work on: May 16, 2014, 10:33:23 AM
The cost(work) it takes to produce a PoS chain, is the cost it takes to duplicate("fake") one, that's probably all there needs to be said about it.

1.党国政府盗窃你的钱的猖狂程度,绝对远超东欧黑客盗窃比特币,只不过党国会用一个个名目包装这种盗窃,并且,因为比特币仿佛开源软件,一切信息都是公开的,所以每发生一起事故,你都有完全的知情能力,在法币的领域里,很多事情你根本被蒙在鼓里,但不代表它们没发生;

630 on: May 09, 2014, 09:51:31 AM

1.大额资金长期保存,用纸钱包备份后,把电脑上的钱包抹去,但是纸要多备份几份,避免遗失;

2.如果在电脑上保存钱包,平常使用blockchain.info之类的第三方服务检查余额,不要用密码给钱包开锁检查,只要你不输密码,木马就没可乘之机(前提是密码够牢固);

3.用Mycelium的扫描纸钱包二维码功能进行支付比较安全快速;
