1) it's not that talkcoin sucks, my deepest regret is investing in the dev team. why? there was an official vote last month initiated by tac team, the community spoke with its desires, and yet the community was ignored.
-- this automatically became a red flag for me. it was really frustrating because ive been a strong supporter of this coin for many months now.

As AizenSou has explained, the voting system will be modified but it requires time to create our new system, it's more complicated than changing 2 or 3 variables in the code.

2) Chat, whether encrypted or not, is easily being implemented on all popular coins. Sooner or later a coin will have it implemented on the blockchain, depending on community desire. Once that occurs, I guarantee you talkcoin will become obsolete. It's not about being first or anything, it's about answering and responding to community desires. That's what drives a coin.

No, it's not easily being implemented. If you want create a secure p2p chat, it requires much time and work. And cloning talkcoin or any code is not a good idea if you don't know what you are doing (see chatcoin). That's why there is no alternative, there are only easier solutions (chat on centralized IRC channel) but what is the point to use central servers in a P2P cryptocurrency...

3) the market is growing heavily inflated even with low block reward.

The market is not growing heavily inflated, the voting system was invented for that reason.

Here's some comparisons:

TAC in circulation: ~7 million
LTC in circulation: ~30 million
NXT in circulation: ~1 billion
DOGE in circulation: ~100 billion

A pretended scarcity (see 365coins, 42coins, mincoin, bitbar etc) have demonstrated clearly enough that scarcity is just a gitzmo/scam that never works in long term. Talkcoin is a long-term project.

why you guys always compare yourself to LTC, NXT, DOGE? Who are you? Are you bcnext?

TAC is defintly not LTC, voting system is a fuck

Can we not get him banned from this thread or something?

It's an unmoderated thread which lead to it's inevitable take over by trolls. But trolls are useful to help maintain a dynamic thread  Cheesy

(1) Why doesn't windows version come with talkcoind.exe?

Is there a demand for it on windows?

(2) Can messages be sent from terminal/script using talkcoind?

Not implemented yet.

(3) Is there a write-up somewhere explaining how the chat feature works?

A site with more explanations will be rebuilt.

(4) It seems like no matter what nick you use, the wallet chat features always sends the message from the same address. Is there a way to change address that your chat message/fee is sent from? (If you wanted to anonymity shouldn't you want to change this address each time you send a message?)

Address is chosen (randomly) by the client but your idea can be implemented later.

How does one tell the actual amount of coins in circulation ?

use the rpc command in the console:
getmoneysupply
47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][TAC] TalkCoin | First P2P Communications Currency | First NIST5 on: July 17, 2014, 07:41:04 PM
At this block reward approx. 1.5M coins created every month, 6.5M coins already minted, so miners keep dumping and price is bleeding.

It's the same problem for all coins, litecoin, ppcoin, namecoin etc...
There are too many coins and not enough investors.

That's why a voting system was created. If you think there are too many mined coins, the community can use the voting to change the block reward. It's much better to control the money supply.

Well this is a great idea and ideally it should work, BUT that would be the case if you have a huge community and hundreds of people voting. This way you can counter the people that try to manipulate the supply/price/market. Right now all the people that wanna manipulate vote all the time and the rest of the people vote whenever they remember.
So well, lets do something to grow the community and coin acceptance so we can get that working Smiley
I guess a good idea would be to finish the message system Smiley

How is manipulation possible? The manipulators will lose a lot of money because the voting system is not free, it requires 5 TAC / vote and 10 votes minimum are necessary.

What about switching to PoS? At this block reward approx. 1.5M coins created every month, 6.5M coins already minted, so miners keep dumping and price is bleeding. Also do you think is it possible to transfer files in blockchain as Syscoin aim to do https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=587080.0

No offence devs i love your work you are doing great, just a few opinions of myself.

It will be never POS for several reasons.

- Security
There is the nothing at stake problem and I am not convinced from what I observed in the source code.
POS is in need of an independent audit to verify its security.

- POS vs. Ideolgy in Talkcoin
Talkcoin is more than currency and not a pump&dump coin, it's a P2P Communications Currency.
In 1, 2, 5, 10, 100 years time or more people won't chat anymore because all exchanges will more closed and nobody will be able to buy TAC.
People can always mine a POW coin, so they always will be able to talk.
50  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][TAC] TalkCoin | MANDATORY UPDATE | First Anonymous Chat | First NIST5 on: July 11, 2014, 06:51:14 PM
that conclude something is wrong with talkcoin. I would bet on unlimited coin supply and reward voting which both goes hand in hand.

That conclude something is wrong with mintpal, "N5coin - premine, no plans, already on 3 exchanges".

Hopefully we get TAC's roadmap today.

No. U don't understand. There is nothing wrong with exchange. Exchange are making a lot of money and there is a reason why they add certain coin. If a coin do what it wants and not what the market wants it will die off. Innovation is fine but it have to be done on top of what the market wants. If the innovation happen to be what the market wants its good but if the innovation is not what the market wants then have to top up feature to keep it alive for long term development of innovative feature which is not yet accepted by the market.

It's a naive view. In reality, altcoins exchanges don't make much money with trading fees.
They must find other solutions to generate money. A solution is to get bribes or to create multiple altcoin clones and dump them. There never had bribes with Talkcoin to be quickly added on exchanges. It's a big difference.
51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][TAC] TalkCoin | MANDATORY UPDATE | First Anonymous Chat | First NIST5 on: July 11, 2014, 02:32:56 AM
I would cap supply and block rewards quite frankly.

TAC usage would be recycled from genius block.

Make TAC chat cheaper. Come up with a good amnt using math.

So sad. AGS coin was just released with absolutely no features. Just bare bone wallet.. And not even any promises and yet its 170 btc volume. Why? 5 million coin cap. That's it.

Oh and a handful of nist5 coins just released within hours of each other all hardcapped in supply. All worth more than tac ATM... There are dead scam coins worth more than TAC which is sad. .. **supply** the whale(s) are going to kill themselves.

O so wrong on that coin. It will be right back to earth worth nothing again the way it is. Just the initial pump and what will follow is a massive dump. Its the same game over and over again.... who catches the falling knife.

Education is needed.
Thanks for understanding how a cryptocurrency works (in a long run) Smiley

New wallet won't sync. Gets stuck on block 232288.

Any nodes to add for a conf file?

Start talkcoin-qt with -reindex

NEW VERSION 1.3.1 MANDATORY UPDATE BEDORE BLOCK #241920

Why #241920?
Due to voting system constraints, the hard fork can only work on special blocks, that's why some had problems after block 230,000.

Reminder that TAC are also being constantly destroyed through communication and voting fees, so the actual number of TAC in circulation is less than the total TAC supplied.

Is there some debug command in the wallet to check this -- what the actual number of TAC in circulation is?

In the new version 1.3.1, there are 2 new RPC commands:

- getreward
- getmoneysupply

And why the price doesn't grow? The award after all is lowered. Chinese dump trucks left. In what reason? Probably the reason in that, that isn't present real development. Investors don't decide to buy. Look at these enormous volumes on bittrex. About what it speaks? The coin is necessary to nobody even at such price. It doesn't disturb you? It seems to me it is necessary to be engaged in search of the reason of such state of affairs. Can lower still an award and the price will grow up for 0.1%? It is running on the spot.

All other alts, even with innovation as a core value, have the same problem, their prices are falling rapidly, it's not specific to Talkcoin.
The most imporrtant is not the price on exchanges but rather if people use it to talk because it's the goal. It must last and have meaning not to be pumped and dumped.

Now new rules + -10% based on a vote of 39, compared to 49 that were in place .... This is a real democracy? Or create on the fly .... Well the DEV team needs to advise Spanish politicians

In a democracy, it’s rarely the majority that wins, but the loudest voice at the table. But it's always better than one man/algo deciding for all  Smiley

58  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][TAC] TalkCoin | First Anonymous Chat | First NIST5 | Vote/No Premine on: June 11, 2014, 01:01:08 AM
Anyone know anything about Cinnicoin's new wallet? supposedly it can be used for anon chats. I wonder if they stole the idea from talkcoin, and how it differs.

They says that the chat is IRC. The privates messages are encrypted. Talkcoin has descentralized chat, no IRC, and will have very soon encrypted messafes also. Anyways they could easily copy the code of Talkcoin and use it. Open source Wink

If some coin begin to copy Talkcoin features is the BEST sign for us.

The difference is that Talkcoin is  completely P2P, there is nothing centralized.
IRC is centralized, anyone connected to the server can know your IP. A decentralized currency shouldn't integrate centralized things like this.
59  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][TAC] TalkCoin | First Anonymous Chat | First NIST5 | Vote/No Premine on: June 11, 2014, 12:52:13 AM
Dear TAC users/community,

First please excuse me for my bad english.

Like I have stated here
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=167229.msg7213022#msg7213022

I think almost all TAC current specs and future plans are perfect, except one thing: the block reward voting system.
The voting system sounds democratic at first, but it's actually not. It's very easy to manipulate with a handful of people.  It should be get rid off because it scares the investors. Who will buy at this price when the next days you could have 3 times or even 20 times more. An perfect example of such coin is HVC. Very innovative coin with big IPO, much more support at first than TAC now, but still, almost like goes under the cellar everyday.
So I will ask some of your opinions first before I post a poll for community to decide whether we should remove the voting system. This request will be sent to talkcoin dev.

Thanks,

Regards,

The voting system will be kept in the wallet, it's a part of its identity. But it will be modified, it will be less radical.
In HV, only pools can vote as much they want, in talkcoin everybody can vote but it costs money, manipulations are less evident.
60  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][TAC] TalkCoin | First Anonymous Chat | First NIST5 | Vote/No Premine on: June 08, 2014, 02:15:35 AM
Hypertext messages

This feature will be not implemented, some people could send virus-infected links.

User channels with % of message fees go to the channel

In a next release, TAC chat fees and voting fees will be removed from circulation (sent to first genesis block, the genesis block coinbase is not spendable), this will be a good means to increase the velocity of coins, money will be continuously created and destroyed.
