I peeled another from the same series that was stored in the same location, and the holo peeled cleanly. FWIW!
Good to hear nubbins. Loving the community involvement that everyone is showing. This is going to become such a big question mark once we break out into the mainstream collectibles community and we are paving the way to being able to answer the big question of "Are the bitcoin still on this coin?"

Thought I was the last bid before auction end ?

Suppose I’ll wait until Smoothie decides ?

Yep you're right, it's Smoothie's call.
6. NO SNIPING - No sniping will be allowed. I will end the auction near 11am on Jan 19th at my discretion. So if you want to bid, get your bid in early.
There is a No Sniping rule which is what a bid three seconds before end time would be. Sniping.
I was willing to go a couple more rounds with you Ramelius but after seeing ~30 minutes go by with no other bids I felt confident smoothie would have called it in my favor and I went back to bed.

I peeled a 2013 Casascius silver today and was horrified when the paper containing the private key started to separate. I managed to get it off and found what appeared to be adhesive on the silver under the paper.

Very worrisome and I am considering peeling the rest of my collection.
I've peeled the 2013 1BTC Silver/Gilt (already in thread) and a 2013 0.5BTC Brass that will be added to this thread with the next update and have not noticed the degree of adhesive you are finding in the private key recess on either coin. I actually happened to be right around the peeled coins when I saw you posted here and have taken these current pictures for you.

Things I can completely throw a guess at would be:
Humidity or heat causing some of the adhesive to run down underneath the insert

An application error by Mike Caldwell? Pretty monotonous applying holograms for hours and hours or even days on end. Of all the coins peeled and shown here so far this might be one of the first to have shown this sort of error application made by the creator.

There just doesn't seem to be any pattern or clue to the splotching pattern it ended up leaving.. this is definitely mind boggling because that adhesive should not be there at all. I'm interested in seeing the private key paper if you'd be willing to share with me even in private nubbins. Completely up to you but that is my main concern and why I created this thread and project.

Regardless of everything the paper splitting in two and being extremely thin should scare everybody. Trying to think of ways for if the thin layer that held the ink remained on the coin face down still... what do you even do? Should always have a scalpel or sharp/fine razor nearby when peeling, also if it starts to tear like that I'd personally try from the other side of the holo and hope that that side of the paper insert remained as one.

Glad you were able to document and share this peel with us nubbins.
Put an X on the board for paper inserts. Engraving looking better and better after every scary peel.

53  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Two 0.5 BTC Casascius Coins for Sale EDIT: possibly been peeled on: December 31, 2020, 05:29:53 PM
OK, got better photos. Looks like one of them at least is still intact! I guess we should sweep the other one, it probably was just mishandled and the coins are still on it.
Because we can only see the first bits of 12CY on the first coin there is a chance it has been redeemed as seen earlier in the thread. A quick search of the Casascius fulllist.txt does show some 12CY coins that are not swept. However you can not sell this coin as loaded on this forum anymore due to the tamper proof honeycomb effect being present. Your best bet there is to sweep it yourself and sell it unloaded if you'd like. Fingers crossed it is just peeled and not swept by your uncle.

The second coin looks to be intact and loaded and you should have no problem selling it as loaded here.

Ah great many thanks. Really interesting. so it’s the very first piece of bitcoin art. I’m pretty sure mine is original.
It may be your first piece of bitcoin art but it is quite a few coins down the line from being the first.

MJB Monetary Metals started in 2011 with these

Mike Caldwell started producing Casascius coins in 2011

And I believe BitBills predates both of those. Someone can chime in with the earliest known bitcoin collectible as I don't know which it is off the top of my head.
55  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Anybody recognise this or know anything about it? on: December 27, 2020, 06:45:17 AM
Here is the thread where the creator MJB Monetary Metals released these upon the forum. These have also been copied and mass produced through many Chinese manufacturers. Rather than the original copper they are probably brass or some cheap alloy. Hard to know which you may have.

57  Economy / Collectibles / Re: I have a peeled Lealana 0.1BTC coin - having trouble importing wallet on: December 17, 2020, 04:51:53 AM
for whatever reason Electrum says the wallet has 50 mBTC. Thing is, I looked the address up on a block explorer and it says it has 0.05BTC.

50 mBTC = 0.05 BTC

whats wrong?

I thought the same thing initially but the subject is:

I have a peeled Lealana 0.1BTC coin - having trouble importing wallet

So only half of the amount is accounted for.

yes that is what the title states but the op also said block explorer shows .05 BTC and the private key yielded him 50mBTC which is the same thing. So, either the title is wrong or the part about the block explorer saying .05 BTC is wrong.
Or it's a Buyer Funded (0.05BTC) but 0.1BTC denominated coin. No worries OP, getting into millibitcoin is confusing unless you train yourself to think that way.
58  Economy / Collectibles / Re: I have a peeled Lealana 0.1BTC coin - having trouble importing wallet on: December 17, 2020, 04:03:02 AM
I've used Mycelium (phone app) to sweep everything with mini private keys. Lealana uses this format and you should not have a problem with it. The correct address is whatever the private key turns into on Mycelium. (You'll input the 30ish digits into making an account from private key and it will give you the corresponding public key and amount loaded.)
You sound like you may be an Apple guy though, I only have experience with the Android client.

Bitcoin All Time High Bump
Looks like a lot of new and old eyes coming back to the forum recently with coins. Ever wonder what's under your hologram?

Should have a pretty major update with new coins/cards/notes towards the new year, if not shortly after. Lots of coins in the post still on their ways to me.
60  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [RFC] 2012/2013 Casascius Coins on: December 07, 2020, 03:57:00 AM
Glad to see ppl like you again here!

Yes, 2weiX was one of the common names around the forum back in 2011. Seeing members welcome him here like a newbie I went ahead and left him a positive trust rating he likely would have earned 9 years ago had there been an option.
I'd read every post in here 100x over and respect them more than you blindly giving trust to an early account that hasn't posted in two years, has the "recently woke up from inactivity" flair in their trust, and comes in flaunting the possibility of coins worth $19k up to $475k without pictures or proof.

With new buyers entering the space (Est2013 seems to be one and interested here) we need to be pushing the "Verify, don't trust" way of doing things here, which in this case is completely ass backwards to what you're preaching with your post in this thread.

Sure leave him trust, nothing wrong with that but flaunting it in this thread making newbies think they should trust him with zero proof of coins. Wrong. We don't do that here.
