I did go ahead and set up a Slack chat for XC so that anyone interested can mess around and see what they think. I think it'll be easy enough to hand it over to an official team member if it turns out Slack is the way the team would like to go.

PM me with your email address for an invite.

xcurrency.slack.com

The free set of features does not allow you to permit guest accounts. And because it is team management software it is designed such that either an invitation or an email address with a company domain is required for registration.

What could be done in the future as well is set up a registration form and link to it from this thread's OP and give people a chance to provide an XC address with a signed message to prove they own X amount of XC in exchange for access to private channels using the registration form. Slack allows the admins to set permissions for each user. ARCH I think has this set up in such a way that it's automated with scripts. You fill out the form, the script verifies you, then sends you an invite to Slack via email. The script also keeps tabs on balances of addresses such that if your balance falls below the minimum amount required for private channels you are immediately booted from the channel. I'm not knowledgeable enough to write such a script, but it's a very cool implementation to consider if someone has that ability.

Edit: You can also get an invite from SouthernBTC and G-Bert as of now.

Slack is the bomb!  I've used it for the last few months and it's the best chat out there.  Super easy to use and their mobile app for Android is pretty damn good.  Slack right to the phone.

PM me your email address, were getting a community going Wink

Be sure to vote for your favorite in this poll!

[Poll] What anonymous coin will succed?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=568166.0;topicseen

Surely XC has more than 10 True Believers...right?   Undecided

Ive done a few of these before. they dont really mean shit. Its just a popularity contest. aka whoever has the largest community is gonna win.

(voted anyway though)

Ok so I have downloaded Slack..never used it..Do we need to create a team first ? Infinite would you like to organise the initial steps so that we can move over there? This is fantastic. Let's keep this going.

Yes, we'd need to create a 'team' first before using Slack.

I could certainly do this, although it would make most sense if it were done from a team member's e-mail address, otherwise we'd have to go through the steps of handing it over to a team member at some point.

I hope this happens. I went to register when we were discussing it last night but soon realised it really needs to be set up initially by a team member.

Arlyn, if you get time, do you fancy setting it up, just to give it a try and see how it goes?

I want to reply to a few of the latest posts, but i've gotta go, but I just want to say its so refreshing to see some positivity back, whether its here, xctalk, or whatever.  Cheesy

Syn, Im really glad you're back in communication with us! So spray on a bit of old spice, get over androids garish cacophony of clashing colours and skeuomorphism, and lets get this shit back on track  Wink

Thanks for the suggestions about Slack.

We've checked it out because Pizpie is very keen on it, and it looks very promising.

Current drawbacks: minimal Windows PC support (i.e. browser only) which makes notifications problematic, and zero Windows Phone support. Argh.

You need to ditch that windows phone for an Android, man.  Grin

What are the drawbacks with it being browser only? I'd be using it on windows too. The forum and here are browser only...

Being browser-only means that people don't get notified of new messages unless you're looking at the browser. It means I miss whole conversations.

Windows phone: quite easily the best platform in terms of:
- tightness of backend/cloud integration
- aesthetics (in comparison Android is a garish cacophony of clashing colours and skeuomorphism)
- smart features (Cortana, data sense, wifi sense, apps corner, live tiles, settings sync, offline maps, etc. etc. etc.)

I guess its down to personal preference. i absolutely hate the windows 8 app/tile section (sorry, can't remember the name) so can't imagine having it on my phone aswell.

I have read reviews saying that windows is catching up with android, it just seems that no one is programing for it. (especially in crypto.. is there any coin that has a windows wallet? )

but anyway, I edited my post just as you replied. check the edit. basically, cant you forward notifications to email or something?

edit: just seen you said it makes notifications problematic. how so? Is it because you would need your browser open to get notifications? if so could you not make notifications send an email to outlook or something similar?

It still sounds better than here or a normal forum to me.

Will you post this at xctalk Infinitechaos?

Already did.  Grin

I completely agree. Slack is king - no other forum or chat app can compare.

i posted our replies over there too. hope the team go for it.

could community memebers set up groups, or chats or whatever of their own or would it only be team members?

Over at ARCH HQ we've been using this awesome app called Slack to organize ourselves.

https://slack.com/

It's been quite effective. You can set up different channels with different topics, make private channels, and even set up bots and scripts to automate certain things.

With ARCH we've got it set up with an automated script such that you need to hold at least XXXX ARCH to even have access (keeps out the troll trash). Then there are more private channels for those who hold more coins.

I could see this being a useful medium for XC. There are obviously community members here who want to be engaged in the project on various levels and Slack would provide an all-in-one medium for XC supporters to gather and for the team to help control the level of community involvement and information dissemination. Arlyn, Dan, and Teka could have their own private channel for their own internal purposes. There could be another private channel where Dan invites select supporters to help him test releases. There could be a public channel where the community tests releases and features amongst themselves.

All discourse is logged and searchable so that people can log on and go back and see what was discussed a few days back.

There are apps for Android and iOS so that you can stay in the loop on the go.

Simply put, Slack is the shit. And the best part is that it's all ready to go and free for the basic features. All we'd have to do is decide to make the move and never look back.

I love this idea!

I seem to remember a while ago Dan was asking about a decent team management program to use. Not sure what the outcome was, but this would be brilliant if you can choose what is shared with who, so the team could use it but the community could get involved in certain aspects too.

(maybe post this on the forum, think were trying to migrate there now instead of here)

Synechist, this is your response to an XC supporter showing genuine concern?

No it was my second request in a row that we move XC-related discussion to a relevant thread. I think my tone was warranted.

Quote
The reason cryptico wrote there was because you only post in Block's thread these days and never on XC's thread.

I watch the XC thread continuously and post whenever I feel that something is of interest.

Sadly, since Bitcointalk is such a toxic environment, I rarely see opportunity to post here. I'd recommend xctalk.com

X1000! What the hell happened Arlyn?

Since the end of the ITO it's like you couldn't give a shit about XC at all and only rarely reply to blocknet posts. Before you seemed engaged, interested, updates were constant, you were friendly. Now we get nothing here, and vague, irritated sounding answers in the blocknet thread. Some big holders of XC have dumped in the last few weeks, don't any of you care anymore? It's fucking depressing checking this thread every day lately. Just FUD, frustration and NOTHING from the "team" that we have trusted since the start.

There are some great community members here, but I think Bitcointalk is an awful place and I want as little to do with it as possible at the moment.

Since Teka moderates this thread, I just watch apathetically while trolls and idiots consistently set its tone and topic.

For a post to stand a chance of getting me to engage positively, it'll most likely be constructive critical discussion about a given piece of XC's tech. That'll be awesome. Unfortunately this pretty much never seems to happen in this thread.

So I'm around.

But I'm not interested in allowing trolls etc. to take up my time. It's almost never worth it.

Fair enough. It would be nice to see more interaction between xc community members and the team at xctalk. Right now there is small handful of members posting over there and not much interaction from the team.

Most of the community has no idea what is happening with xc and I haven't seen many answers over there yet. The answer to a stronger, more secure xcurrency network is users and it seems as though we have lost many xcers over the last month or so; including several whales and some of our most vocal enthusiasts. How can we change this?

From here on out I will begin checking xctalk on a daily basis. Let's port the conversation over there and let this thread die.

Yeah thanks for the reply Arlyn and I agree about this place, but also with the above post. I too would ignore the trolls if I were you.

All I really want to see is updates. What worries me is, if you are still here but not posting, I can only assume there is nothing interesting you can tell us. How can we give constructive criticism if there is nothing to criticize? (other than lack of information)

Those daily updates you used to do, simply saying "Dan is still coding on X, I am doing Y and Teka is doing Z" etc.

That's all it really took to keep the community members happy. If you can't muster up one post a day, it doesn't give us much hope that there is anything going on at all. Do you see what I'm saying?

Forget this place if you're not going to post in it, but can we get some updates on xctalk? Dan posted a "Daily update" thread which hasn't been posted in for a week.
52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XC][XCurrency] Decentralised Trustless Privacy Platform / Encrypted XChat / Pos on: November 24, 2014, 05:50:33 PM
Its because Synechist is the moderator for blocknet thread and Teka is moderator for XC thread.

It seems Teka has gone AWOL.  Huh

Nope I'm still here, my study life over the last few weeks has been extremely busy so I've focused on work and answering PMs. I have also personally decided that from this point going forward I will probably be mainly spending more time on xctalk rather then bitcointalk.

Good to see you are still around.  Smiley

Maybe it is worth closing this thread then with a link to the official forum. Just keep this thread for updates. Its felt like its been abandoned lately. Fair enough if you have had studies etc.
53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XC][XCurrency] Decentralised Trustless Privacy Platform / Encrypted XChat / Pos on: November 24, 2014, 04:46:50 PM
Arlyn not to be a dusche but lately you lack internal communication a lot. If you need one more person to organise that inside your team and keep the loop with the community, I have already suggested you to pick one up from the community after interviews for however would like to do it and is found worthy from the team.

Can we please discuss XC-related topics elsewhere?

This is the wrong thread.

We don't lack internal communication, and you're not really in a position to tell.

We've heard your suggestion and will consider it on independent grounds.

Synechist, this is your response to an XC supporter showing genuine concern?  Who do you work for anyways, Block or XC?  The reason cryptico wrote there was because you only post in Block's thread these days and never on XC's thread.

The way you have been treating some of XC's longest supporters lately has been off-putting.  Please rethink your strategy.

Xbridge working sample is supposed to be released this week correct? Or a code update anyway.

No.

"Hello all,

just wanted to provide an update, due to the amount of noise from the trolls creating FUD to lower the market price, its hard to communicate directly with real blocknet enthusiasts.

As I stated, we will have a test/prototype p2p daemon by the end of the month, if not sooner and with that a clear roadmap and other details regarding this project.

While things may seem to be in a lull currently, it is just part of the process of putting everything in order

I'm available via PM for any questions as its hard to keep up w/ all the noise from trolls.

Dan"

I was just looking for this quote myself. Week to go. (if not less)

My response is due to the fact that we're still organising the Foundation, etc. and thus don't yet have a set of official dates/milestones or associated publicity plans. My apologies for forgetting Dan's post.

Can you tell us anything that has been done since the end of the ITO? Anything at all?

How long does it take to speak to the dev of each coin? Seriously.  Huh

Can you reply to my PM please? Thank you.

Ok.

Apologies to everyone who's not heard back from me recently. I have a large and intimidating backlog of PMs, and it's not always possible for me to keep up with the rate at which messages come in.

Any news on the XC front this week? Or Blocknet actually for that matter. Perhaps a weekly update of some sort?

Yeah, you can expect XC-related news on xctalk.com. ;-)

As for the Blocknet, there's a lot of preparatory work going on behind the scenes (regarding the Foundation) and we hope to report back on a bunch of that asap.

Regarding XC.. the NEW TORISO update was not released to the public we just discovered it in the download folder of the website. will there be official ann for that in the XC forum? is it safe to put coins there?

New ISO and it wasn't announced? lol, wtf.

Eagerly awaiting the latest on blocknet.
