So, Mr. Lee, was YOUR volume inflated before the Dec/2013 decree? Why did OKCoin's "wash trades" stop when their bank account was closed?  Was YOUR volume 80% fake between Sep/2014 and Apr/2015?  Grin Tongue

I wouldn't be surprised if pretty much everything coming from any Bitcoin exchange ticker is manipulated by the operators and I think short of raiding the servers of these "companies" there is nothing that can be used as concrete indicator for either possibility.

story time

Just stumbled over a private tracker site that I thought about signing up for. Polish, pretty active by the looks of it. They ask for a 0.01 BTC sign up contribution. Not overly greedy, which I liked. Made me grin as well. Just like that, some millennials over in Poland, asking me "Want to sign up? Send us a small amount of BTC, it's hassle free and doesn't get blocked."

I don't really care much whether the ETF starts trading this year or not, or if the sound money zealots will have their field day anytime soon. As long as a bunch of kids likely around half my age at the other end of the EU use the Blockchain as an overengineered tipping jar, I'm happy for now.

No sarcasm or bitterness in that last line. Some humbleness maybe, compared to the thoughts I had on the matter two years ago, but only the most cynical of assholes will conflate these two.

/story time

Well, as a representative of the pointing and laughing crowd I can tell you that this story and what it portrays totally makes sense even to me.
I'd even say that I totally support bitcoin for that kind of usage, still.

Sources? lel. Roll Eyes

I'm sure they weren't just knocked up to be dropped in the wall observer thread. It does look like fairly wild speculation but I'd like to read more.

It's from a wishful thinking "hypothetical", in small text article from the XT cult.
44  Economy / Speculation / Re: new highs possible only after memory fades on: October 19, 2015, 06:23:22 PM
So you define the success bitcoin can have by it going through a speculative bubble. How sad.

Price of BTC is in direct relation to mass adoption, which we all want. So price-talk isn't that insensible.

But we can achieve anything by talking to convince. When people simply ignore something, the best explanations with proper example will do magic. Marketing people will do that. So, spreading the word on bitcoin definitely will increase the user base of bitcoin.

Have you tried it? Once you do please post results, I love these.

Here's what I mean by inverse head and shoulders:

I'm not disagreeing with the master, just wanted a better visualization of what I was thinking.

If that is a reverse h&s the person it shows must have some sort of physical condition. (or is wearing a padded suit)

I tried to find out more about the MMM ponzi that is supposed to fuel the current uptrend (and I count as a fundamental).
It has been running for years, including accepting bitcoin for over 3 years, so I'm not convinced it is so important.
Supposedly in South Africa it has been running wild lately, but Google trends don't show a large rise for bitcoin in SA.
And it doesn't explain the huge buys in China, if bitcoins would be bought in SA, I would expect to be sold in other countries.
So, if someone has a better explanation for the renewed Chinese appetite, please post it.
The question is how long will this ponzi / renewed Chinese demand go on, with major medium term consequences on the price.

What's wrong with this simply being a pump, and this on Huoubi has the advantage that it can be made look huge by buying and selling the same coins several times without additional costs. Volume on exchanges with trading fees hasn't spiked, soo.

Also the run-up looks natural, albeit a little smooth (not enough oscillations). My guess this is a genuine spike, just the volume has been artificially inflated by people who want to make it look like it counts.

Since Gemini is clearly leading this price increase, do you think the Twins are pumping this? I mean a million dollars is pocket change to them, maybe the are just buying it in small amounts each day and driving the price up. Considering how much they already hold in bitcoin it would basically be paying for itself in the long run.

The run up from $10 to $266 contained a lot of jumps due to a few rich people buying large amounts of bitcoins. Friends of the twins might have some confidence in going through their exchange.

They have friends?

People, all the visitors to this BS thread, neither me "Fakhoury" nor my thread "The Bullish News and Articles Thread" are related in any means to this BS thread and we are not sisters as the mentally-retarded OP says.

Thank you.

You shouldn't have PM'd me about creating this sock for you then.

PMed you for a sock, are you an idiot, drunk or both ?

Now you don't complain it.

I think about you same too.
P.S. Do you have anything to talk about this problem not about me?
What problem? Malleability? THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM.

Sorry. I know too little about bitcoin, malleability, etc. I am newbie. You are right. I am not advanced user. Thank you for notice it.

Sarcasm does not go easily through the internet.  You should use "Grin"even when you think it is obvious.

I think that has more to do with assburgers than internets,

Larry Summers, the former Harvard University president, isn't hiding his disdain for the Winklevoss twins -- the notorious pair who started their feud with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg while the three were students at the school under Summers.

"One of the things you learn as a college president is that if an undergraduate is wearing a tie and jacket on Thursday afternoon at three o'clock, there are two possibilities. One is that they're looking for a job and have an interview; the other is that they're an asshole. This was the latter case, ” Summers said at the conference. "Rarely, have I encountered such unfounded swagger, and I tried to respond in kind.

Wow if your former college professor calls you an asshole you've really should be looked at by a shrink, perhaps bordeline or some other socipoathic disorder.
Those are generally the most liking people out there, I can't imagine how the average person would react.

Regardless of whether the description fits the bill, Larry Summers sounds a bit like an unprofessional asshole as well. He was in charge of Rich Spoiled Brats Uni, of course there's a lot of assholes in those corridors. The smell of manure alone probably entitles them to some kind of farm subsidy. Is he keeping track of all of the asswipes there, or only the ones that can put him on telly?

Nah, being spoiled or having prestige doesn't make you an asshole on it's own, if so the world would be far worse off than it is.
But I'm not that of a pessimist.

73% of the so called ''Finance pro's'' think that Blockchain can thrive without Bitcoin... Roll Eyes

This is one of the most useless comment that i ever saw about Bitcoin after; ''Dont get into Bitcoin because you can buy drugs with it''

How is that "World Wide Ledger" astroturf doing?

The really juicy bit about this thing is that the core developers don't want to fix it because it might prevent future vaporware uses of the bitcoin protocol to be established.

Any idea what this is referring to?

schemes that make malleability irrelevant are subject to dangerous signature replay attacks if not handled very carefully

Is he saying that implementing BIP 62 opens up a new known attack vector?

What I meant was the idea that what goes into transaction should be "open to the user".
Imagine you had a database and added to the ability to store arbitrary information into each row, this is why rational databases exist which require you to define the type of data you want to store before you do add that information. The game of whack-a-mole is because even when they remove malleability for necessary transaction data it still doesn't prevent that attack because each entry has "scrap space" after that.
My suggestion is to abandon that concept because it's not a sane approach to storing data but a software engineering nightmare.
