There were some recent fixes regarding connectivity....can you give it another try? And did you try the download blocks option in the top menu "rebuild blockchain"?

I think because lots people can't setup the wallet and can't wrap their head around how GRC actually works. Lots of complicated concepts, config file editing in obscure windows directories, we still haven't mobile wallet, which is a big deal. Most people these day's don't even use pcs, they just use their iPhones and iPads. We are still growing at a steady rate, but we could do much much better me thinks.
You are right, but I have a good feeling about additional dev power. One way or the other, we will get support for mobile devices and all-in-one solutions that grandma will be able to use In regards to setting everything up: Luckily we have the pool now on pool.gridcoin.co, which makes setting everything up much easier. If you are a newcomer to Gridcoin I suggest giving it a try. It also shows you exactly why you earn how much and how much you earned exactly with each individual project.

It'll be interesting to find an alien Do they found any? Not for sure, but there were some interesting signals: " However, it has identified several candidate targets (sky positions), where the spike in intensity is not easily explained as noisespots,[9] for further analysis. The most significant candidate signal to date was announced on September 1, 2004, named Radio source SHGb02+14a." , see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SETI@home#Results

I really like Gridcoin - Uses proof of stake & distributed proof of research to securely reward BOINC (volunteer distributed computing) work.
I second Gridcoin. Gridcoin is a cryptocurrency that rewards researching for BOINC projects ( https://boinc.berkeley.edu/) in a decentralized way. There are BOINC porojects for example cure Ebola ( http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/research/oet1/overview.do), fold proteins ( https://boinc.bakerlab.org/) or find aliens ( http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/) and many more. The greater idea behin Gridcoin is to create a worldwide currency like bitcoin and just like bitcoin there is a fixed rate of newly minted coins given out every day. But unlike bitcoin miners compete in doing calculations for actual research projects to earn the coins and do not waste electricity solving useless hashes. The coin is based on Proof of Stake but with the modification that the PoS reward gets bigger dependig how much research you do compared to the other researchers. The best way to get started with Gridcoin is on the official page: www.gridcoin.us, there is a tutorial for how to set up the wallet and how to start mining.

I think the future is in proof-of-doing-useful work-with your-computer. This has the advantage that compared to proof-of-work no electricity is wasted to solve meaningless hashes and compared to proof of stake coins get produced from something different than interest, which prevents coins being hoarded by just a few people and increases fairness of distribution. A good example for that is Gridcoin, which rewards computing done for BOINC ( https://boinc.berkeley.edu/) in a decentralized way. There are BOINC projects for example to cure Ebola ( http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/research/oet1/overview.do), fold proteins ( https://boinc.bakerlab.org/) or find aliens ( http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/). The newly created coins are thus backed by meaningful research done by the person who gets the newly minted coins.

Hi MrCluster,
unfortunately I do not know much about Nxt. How would such a BOINC plugin for nxt look ike and what would be the role of Gridcoin in it?

In order to earn something both the wallet and BOINC have to be running.
But if you are just starting out, I would suggest to use the pool on pool.gridcoin.co , you will earn GRC regularly and don't have to worry about setting everything up.

Also good news, there will soon be another pool, so that setting up mining will become much easier.

Another thing is also check wheather your time is correct on windows and synchronize it.
If it is not synchronized, peers can refuse your connection.

It normally does not happen and if only for a very short period of time.
Normally you compare your blocknumber with the block explorer to find out if you are on a fork.
