Gridcoin [GRC].

Gridcoin combines the energy-efficiency of Proof of Stake with scientific "Proof of Work" aka Proof of BOINC to Proof of Research.
With the energy-efficiency of Blackcoin you can generate interest. While you are (optionally) donating your computation power to different BOINC projects (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berkeley_Open_Infrastructure_for_Network_Computing) like cancer or malaria research, you generate additional coins.

The coin exists for more than 2 years now, there has been no premining. It is ASIC resistant because every whitelisted BOINC project has own algorithms and work on the projects is individually compensated. Some of the projects can utilize your CPU, some also the GPU and there is one for ASIC.

CCT thread (main): https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/1331-new-coin-launch-announcement-grc-gridcoin/page-1115

Although I voted for huc this is easily my 2nd choice.

Some people believe there is compelling evidence that cryptonote was developed by some alphabet soup agency. The evidence convinces me that it is likely.

I drop the discussion unless it's supporters want to push.

What evidence? That Keccak was sponsored by NSA? So was SHA256. That the original devs are unknown? So is Bitcoin's dev(s). Do you have any actual evidence, or just tinfoil hat speculation?

I don't want this to sound too much like a Monero circle jerk, but I think devs such as your self would appreciate what monero is trying to do.  Here's a very recent video that Bitcoin Uncensored did and has Fluffypony (one of the core devs of Monero) as a guest, which starts at 6:00 and ends at 32:00.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKd7F-10lxM&feature=youtu.be&t=6m

Hopefully this will give you a better insight of how people who work with Monero think... and hopefully you can see that it's a pretty humble group of people who primarily are in it for the research in cryptonote technology.

Also, on the getmonero forum page, there is a section there that people post ideas that they think would possibly help Monero... whether it's in the actual code of Monero itself, or other projects that need to be done to help the Monero economy.  These ideas will be talked about on there and if people deem it a good idea, the community and dev will work out some sort of price (in XMR) which the community will pay the dev to do.  So if you have some knowledge in building cool apps or other things that will enhance the economy of Monero, then there is a little bit of extra incentive for you.

But seriously, if you don't want to work on it because maybe you just don't like the way cryptonotes are, or whatever the reason maybe... don't feel like you have to include us in your decision making.

With regard to Monero, please don't turn this into a Cryptonote thread.

Some people believe there is compelling evidence that cryptonote was developed by some alphabet soup agency. The evidence convinces me that it is likely.

I drop the discussion unless it's supporters want to push.

It's ok, I won't turn this into a cryptonote thread... If you don't feel comfortable with cryptonote and want to work with a clone of Bitcoin or another platform that's cool. But understand that what you said is contradictory in that you don't want this to turn into a thread about cryptonote, but yet your waiting to hear other "supporters" of Monero tell you that it's the best out their by "pushing" monero. You shouldn't have to be "pushed" into something you feel is ethical, I feel you are waiting to be inspired by a project.

So with that, I suggest other Monero supporters on here to stop trying to "push", Monero's project should speak for itself... And if OP doesn't want to do it, then let him do his own thing. I don't think he's really wanting to debate over something that fits what we like to see in a coin, and that's ok because he is entitled to his own opinions.

Good point. Sorry.

You can read the last few days posts on the huntercoin thread and the op on this thread to see what I was looking for.

There was a very scholarly site by some Russians, Cryptobang I think it was called, that laid out a compelling case. The site is gone but you can find copies of it I think.

I understand that there are two sides to surveillance issues, and I understand both sides are sincere. I am in coins to make money, at this point, and with my very limited, i.e., near zero, knowledge of cryptography, and the takeaway from the cryptobang article, defending cryptonote is a high bar.

Am looking at it and will probably add new coins tomorrow. Seems to have a huge premine. That's good I guess if you like premines.

Those were basically the only two points from the cryptobang article. It's mirrored here: https://criticl.me/post/what-nsa-created-cryptonote-2292

It's not scholarly at all. There's no references, and they make no legitimate arguments (unless I'm missing them and you would like to point them out). Monero is one of the only alt coins to be praised and/or used by Bitcoin core developers:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/46gfgv/list_of_prominent_bitcoin_people_that_spoke/

Are you saying that Greg Maxwell, Wladimir J. van der Laan, Peter Todd, Andrew Poelstra, Nicolas Courtois, and Theymos are all under the influence of alphabet soup organizations?

Monero because it is the best privacy oriented coin with the fairest launch that still has a lot of features in the works, such as i2p integration, pruning, confidential ring signature txs, and more.

Lisk is a fork of Crypti that is about to launch an ICO. It's pretty scammy IMO, Crypti had an ICO, now same devs are forking it and running another ICO, wtf?

these LISK guys can't even be called devs. more like promoters and graphic desigers than serious coders.

Yeh maybe if you read about it, they where not the dev's of crypty just early member's
And in 2016 they left it because their ideology's drifted apart,

They just release a video about why this coin is going to be great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rk_0TjP1gjY

And they already collected over 1300 Bitcoin so tell me how this is going to be a scam?

I second Gridcoin, it is already the second biggest team on boincstats for recent average credit (http://boincstats.com/en/stats/-1/team/list/16/0#2) and has done incredible amounts of research to cure Ebola (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/research/oet1/overview.do), fold proteins (https://boinc.bakerlab.org/) or find aliens (http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/).

Really, what could be a better humanitarian goal than bringing lots of people to donate their computing power to science for free?

I'm guessing because OP is only interested in shilling Blackcoin and/or Unobtainium. This thread is a joke, and if you want to dictate the conversation, OP, you need to start a self-moderated thread.

The only coin on the poll which I buy is Huntercoin.

It has one vote.

Mine.

Was Horizon removed? If so, why? Thanks.

This poll is trying to get opinions and measure genuine sentiment towards coins.
It's not a competition.
If you link the poll in a thread and try to inflate the votes for "your" coin I'll remove your coin until the next reset.

Sooo... Why don't you just try to work for Huntercoin? Sounds like you already have made your mind up IMO, and not really looking for suggestions.

What is wrong with looking for other ethical coins?

Do you own only one coin?

The poll format may have been a mistake, since it has become a spamfest, but I am able to look at other coins and gauge them.

I 3rd Gridcoin, easily one of the best coins for altrusm, I have contributed to some amazing projects over 10 years on the BOINC platform and its great for Gridcoin to help me in that continued effort!

I also add a vote for Solarcoin, which is incentivising people to install Solar PV, also very worthy.

Im not sure why Sia is added to a list like this, its a good coin Im using and invested in.  Im also not clear why some other coins made it on this list, perhaps Im mis-interpreting the word 'ethical'.
