In all situations:
To save myself or someone I loved i'd kill the entire human race

Only where i'd not be liable:
To save a random stranger who I don't know, i'd kill anyone who has themselves killed innocent people but nobody else

I believe this to be rational, if slightly sociopathic in some people's eyes
402  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Opting out of Social Security on: July 08, 2012, 08:03:10 PM

I'm not sure what you're referring to as "nonsense", but if you are talking about the ALL CAPS name thing, you're 100% wrong. I have a common law copyright to my strawman that was published in the paper and they absolutely recognized that fact in court. To this day, I haven't paid any penalties nor served any time for 3 different tickets. The cops know where I am and haven't done anything.

Citation needed - i.e an actual copy of the court's opinion wherein they state that your ALL CAPS name is somehow a separate legal entity from you.
403  Economy / Lending / Re: An experiment in loans on: July 08, 2012, 03:18:56 PM
as a noob i thought you might like my insight, even though I am still new to all this I have still taken out small loans with other forum members for more than your offering, asking less in return, Now i appreceate that lenders such as your self would have to cut possible losses, and you all do it in various ways, But my main point is, What exactly would I do with a 1BTC loan? or actually a 0.5BTC loan as i would have to part with half up front. Ahh i hear you say, its to help me establish some kind of credit history with you and other forum members! good point but I do hear of people lending small amounts to get a bigger one (from other members mainly) then run off.

Please note I am in no way knocking your plan but just giveing a noob point of view, I know there are blatent scammers out there, I have seen some of the funny posts, So there must be a balance between trust and suspicion, Finding it, However, Is hard!

I am asking a lot, yes - but that's the experiment - I want to see whether risky borrowers really are more willing to pay more.
404  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Opting out of Social Security on: July 08, 2012, 03:15:18 PM
Can someone point to the law that REQUIRES me to have a SSN?

I've known my SSN for longer than I can remember, probably before I even became a teenager. How do you force the government to rescind your number (whether you've paid nothing into SS, very little because you've mostly been unemployed, or lots) without forfeiting U.S. citizenship? And if you want to have a "legit" job or do anything else where SSN/TIN is asked of you, how do you respond? There's nothing more I'd like to do right now than say "I don't have that number and you can't make me get one."

I don't know, that's almost exactly what I said at my last job when they asked for one. I had to stop working there but they still got me a last check.

There's no point in rescinding the number - its attached to a juristic entity that the government owns as well - the ALL CAPS version of your name. You can't ask them to change THEIR record keeping system.

What you can do is take ownership of the juristic entity that is your ALL CAPS name and then just stop using a SSN since it doesn't apply to you anyway.

It'll be a LOT harder to get a job, because most employers are rightfully intimidated of being shut down. But you'll be off the grid.

This is again total nonsense.

Not to mention that sedm.org lists various court cases as "proof" of their nonsense when in fact they're anything but if you bother to read the actual rulings......... and they also list biblical references as if these count for anything in a secular court.
406  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Opting out of Social Security on: July 07, 2012, 07:47:59 PM
Believe it or not, anyone can opt out of social security...

http://sedm.org/Forms/AvoidingFranch/SSTrustIndenture.pdf

By following those complex instructions anyone can opt out, however neither employers nor the government will recognise the opt-out. Good luck trying though.

Actually once you complete the paperwork they are legally obligated to recognize it. Of course people will find it odd, but that doesn't change the law.

Are you sure about that?

http://www.irs.gov/taxpros/article/0,,id=159932,00.html

The instructions on sedm.org basically have a big pile of the same old tax protestor arguments such as the nonsensical claim that you can be a citizen of a state but not of the US. It's fine to object to the principle behind taxation on ethical grounds, but claiming that it's already actually illegal and there's some hidden trick to completely opt out of it is insane and if anything courts will tend to treat you more harshly through trying to use these kinds of arguments than if you simply turn up and say "I did not pay my tax because I have a moral objection to doing so".

Look up the concept of "frivolous arguments" as regards legal proceedings.
407  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Would you pay taxes if you could live off bitcoins? on: July 07, 2012, 05:53:40 PM
The government is generally quite expert at recovering taxes they have decided you owe, and at changing the rules to ensure you can't sidestep the system simply by using something such as bitcoin (bitcoin is either a currency or "payment in kind" when it comes to receiving it as compensation for selling to others - although it's more difficult for the law to be enforced here, it's still the law that you have to pay taxes).

Easiest way to get caught is by living a good lifestyle that obviously costs money to maintain while reporting an incredibly low income.

Whether or not you agree with the principles behind taxation, it's irrational to willingly expose yourself to the liability (including possible jail time) from not paying them.

On top of that, if you do happen to make use of any government-provided facilities then it seems only right to pay for them, even if the only way to pay currently is by giving a % of your total income.

These days it's even worse as now not only does the government look out for loopholes but we have a whole bunch of people who are actively lobbying the government to take more tax (think: UK uncut, occupy wallstreet etc - side note: why do some of these people talk about "overthrowing the state" when going to their protests when the protests are about giving the state more power and more funding?)
408  Economy / Lending / Re: An experiment in loans on: July 06, 2012, 08:44:14 PM
Just wondering, what exactly are you experimenting?

I want to see whether there is a market for people who are unknown but desire credit - risky borrowers basically - and see whether they would be willing to take out a secured loan.
409  Economy / Marketplace / Re: We're up to something on: July 05, 2012, 06:56:24 PM
Have you opened some sort of Bank account in the UK so that people in the UK can walk into a bank in the UK (excluding channel islands and Isle of man and possibly Liverpool for AML reasons) and then just have a mechanism that let's them buy bitcoins immediately (excluding Liverpool)?

No, we have not opened a UK bank account

Well at least Liverpool still remain excluded.

LOL

Liverpool isn't so bad

411  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 6.66 Mark of the Beast!! ZOMG!!! on: July 05, 2012, 05:18:28 PM
KJV Rev. 13

16    And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17    and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18    Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Hence my earlier reference to "and none shall buy or sell" Wink

Turns out the bible prophesied the arrival of bitcoin, I mean have you seen block #666 ?

http://blockchain.info/block-height/666

It's obvious that this one output is being hoarded as part of the finances and fundraising for the antichrist.

Plus, who but the devil himself with his supernatural power could run a mining rig at sea?

And 2009? NINE!

Nine is the number of lucifer (fun true fact actually - multiples of 9 when you add the digits together always resolve back to 9, this means that 9 is a so-called "number with pride" and it is referred to as lucifer's number within occult circles)

It's obvious now who Satoshi is....... or should I say:

SATANOSHI!

(Disclaimer: The above is mostly nonsense, there is no devil or antichrist but feel free to believe in any religion you want no matter how wrong or how crazy, so long as you don't act on your beliefs in ways which harm others)
412  Economy / Lending / An experiment in loans on: July 05, 2012, 02:53:32 PM
This is more an experiment than anything else.

I'll loan any random newbie or anyone else apart from known scammers or people who otherwise set off too many alarm bells even for this experiment up to 5BTC, here's my rates:

1BTC at 0.05BTC per week - 0.5BTC deposit up front to be returned after loan ends unless loan not repaid
2BTC at 0.1BTC per week   - 1BTC deposit up front to be returned after loan ends
3BTC at 0.2BTC per week   - 1.5BTC deposit up front to be returned after loan ends
4BTC at 0.3BTC per week   - 2BTC deposit up front to be returned after loan ends
5BTC at 0.4BTC per week   - 2.5BTC deposit up front to be returned after loan ends

If you can not make a deposit, the above rates increase by 0.1BTC per week and recurring payments are required
If payments are late, they will be taken out of the deposit, if there is no deposit then full details of the default will be posted in public.
If loans are not repaid then any deposit is forfeit.

Longest periods allowed:
1BTC for 1 month
2BTC for 2 weeks
3BTC for 2 weeks
4BTC for 1 week - unless you are willing to pay an extra of 0.2BTC per week, in which case 1 month
5BTC for 1 week - unless you are willing to pay an extra 0.4BTC per week, in which case 1 month

And here's one from me:

Low-value but nice-looking physical coins with guides on how to use them - like a free gift to get new users started, is this possible? Free gifts in general are good.
CDs glued to the front cover with video interviews, cool software and whatever else
414  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Quality Bitcoin Magazine Suggestions Only! (please do not troll!) on: July 04, 2012, 08:15:35 PM
Oh, and humour - I just asked my wife for some non-geek input on ideas for the magazine and she suggested "you know you're a bitcoiner when...."
She also suggested:

Best bitcoin buys/bargains - "buy a jar of peanuts for only 2 bitcoins!" - I think I need to show her the current exchange rates more often........
Pics of sexy girls holding up their bitcoin address - send in a pic of your boyfriend or girlfriend

A pile of tips to include:

Interesting recent transactions and wild guessing as to what they are
Market conditions and trends, recent exchange rate history
A listing of businesses that accept BTC (commercial listings)
Classified ads
Media watch - what's the mainstream media saying about our beloved bitcoin?
Information security tips and news with a focus on bitcoin users
Client app listings, complete with QR codes for smartphones (*bitcoinspinner*cough* shameless plug)

Some more "out there" ideas occur too, like a paper blockchain update, but that's just my insanity showing

Before I even read the link, is that Maria's writing?

If so, i'm disappointed - I know her work and she's usually better at not falling for common myths.
417  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Finally, Bitcoin withdrawals to PayPal from BitInstant! on: July 04, 2012, 07:12:03 AM
Taking into account that Paypal don't like Bitcoin, how secure is your service?. Can Paypal close my account because I am using Bitcoin?

Technically they can close your account because it's a tuesday if they feel like it, the question is whether they will and I believe with the current setup end users are not at any risk of this - after all, we aren't going to start demanding refunds for all payments sent out.

Update:

Some orders are having fees incorrectly calculated and are being shorted as a result, if you have had such an order then please PM me here with your QuoteID so the extra money owed can be sent to you
419  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [ANN] 700,000 Cash Deposit Locations in Brazil, Russia, USA - BitInstant on: July 03, 2012, 07:11:54 PM
Ok. I'm trying to do this "ZipZap" payment stuff and it says I will receive ~$48.00 worth of BTC for a $50 order, but then when I begin to jump through ZipZap's hoops, I am told that I must pay $53.95, instead of the $50 I had expected to pay from earlier.

This seems pretty damn sketchy that I can't even be informed from the outset what charges I will incur.

I was going to complete the deal, but how do I know when I get to the cashier, they won't ask me for $60?

Buying bitcoins at walmart *sounds* nice, but I've found that in practice, it's actually quite a pain in the ass.

The deposit slip you get from zipzap has the final amount you will need to pay - sadly we do not know in advance what the fees from zipzap will be and so can only tell you what we ask for from zipzap.
