I've definitely wondered about SHA-256 encryption and its origins.  I was having a conversation with a gentlemen, sharing with him a little about bitcoin when he somehow brought up encryption levels and he said he was into that stuff.  He asked if bitcoin was 128bit or what and I said no I believe it's 256, he looked in disbelief at me and said that 256 bit encryption requires national security level clearance, that can't be right.  I then googled it, confirmed SHA 256 and he looked even more stunned.  He then said, "that is interesting and I'll have to look more into it when I get home."

If I had not previously had a conversation with another friend about the origin of the SHA 256 algorithm coming from NSA patents, I wouldn't have felt quite the same little tingle in my spine when I had this conversation with someone whom had never heard of a bitcoin, prior to the 270 price bubble.  Since I had, and being a naturally inquisitive historian, this has definitely been an interesting thought, especially since 256 may be pretty well surpassed with petaflop computing already.  Think about the craziest largest array of bitcoin miners you've ever seen, multiply that by 100 and think about 100 locations running that kind of power...I'm pretty sure 256 could be cracked if you have enough resources, and if we're not already there, Moore's law would suggest they are starting manufacture of the technology that will run it soon.  I'm pretty sure military grade encryption is already beyond 256...suggesting they don't find it secure enough.

I did see a massive failure the other day, in which sites were reporting the payout as 0, and the pools appeared to have mostly stopped at that time as well.  I really want to see this develop into something more...but I'm not holding my breath.  Did anyone ever get a paper wallet site up?  That'd be a really nice step in the correct direction.  That and getting this on more than just BTER and cryptsy...if BTC-e grabbed on...we'd have something pretty nice...but again, breathing normally, as I don't see this happening soon. 

Wasn't the original idea that you could someday swap BTB for physical gold?  If we can get someone with gold to offer it in exchange for BTB on a website...this would become a much more viable crypto.  Until then, we'll see, but my hopes are dwindling.  I might even be willing to run the website if someone has gold to back it, legitimately.

I would love to see a quality point of sale system.  I would also like this to be released onto trading platforms like BTC-E or perhaps get the buttercoin project to take a look at adding this to their trading engine.  I think this project has the potential to be big.  I am mining digital coin currently because until this is online, it is clearly the next big coin due to ease of adoption.  Both Digitalcoin and Netcoin have better names for psychological adoption by the masses than even bitcoin.  Bitcoin will be the gold standard, but these could easily become as big or bigger than litecoin with expedience.  I look at it like this, if Novacoin is more valuable than Litecoin right now, DGC and MC2 will be two very strong contenders in the future.  I may have been wrong about Bitbar developing into something more, but Digitalcoin has some serious potential, simply due to rapid adoption, and this project could do the exact same thing, but without pre-mining.  Let the community donations and fees be enough for bounties and rewards...none of this we pre-mined one million coins because we figured no one would notice, etc.  And my only other gripe with DGC, if you say you're going to release the coin at a "1" difficulty...then don't go back on your word and release it to yourself lower than that...this community will catch you, and it will destroy the potential value.  

I think marketing this coin ahead of time via crowd-funding...especially target miners...similar to ASIC advertisements.  Between that and signature giveaways (make one nicer looking than the current spam...like the one I'm carrying currently that looks like crap, we want netcoin to be appealing).  Looking for the next big coin in cyberspace...join the 10,000 netcoin giveaway, mining starts July 4th...or whatever.

The likely answer is no.  It is a necessary security protocol that makes those long addresses, which is what keeps it secure.  Most are built in to recognize the first six characters though...and you can typically use the paper wallet sites to give yourself a "vanity" address which would make it much easier.

The current level of complication required to use crypto-currency will keep it limited in terms of access by the general public, so I certainly agree that simplification is our greatest ally in adoption.  This project and even Digital coin have great potential due to the ease of mental adoption...even a non geek would understand a "digital" coin or a "net" coin, even more-so than a "bit" coin.

What I love about all crypto currencies is the fact that they are already the back-end protocols on which the banking systems of the world will run, they just haven't been implemented as such...yet.  Looking at Buttercoin and extrapolating what a success could potentially do to Wall Street...it could very well become the standard trading platform used by NYSE and others, as an open source version would be much less prone to outside manipulation, and could change the way the world works with finance.  I really like the idea of gold and silver operating on an open source exchange...that would be something, as the price would be based on what the people are willing to pay, not the banks.

Also...get this project on the map with Buttercoin's members so we can run right alongside BTC early on.

I'd love to see multiple pools in multiple places throughout the world available to miners from day one.

I'd wait for them to ship the ASIC and ship the FPGA back in the box they send it in.  That'd be helpful to the environment and you get to mine until you get to mine double for an evening or two.  It also helps negate fraud.  Just my thought on the subject...I definitely wouldn't send anything back till you have your order in hand.  Considering the faith you've had to put into your order...they should give the customers a little faith in sending back their FPGA devices...postage paid.  Plus it would seem to me you could get much more for your FPGA from ebay...dunno why you'd sell it back.

I am a huge fan of this project.  The concept of a "netcoin" will be far easier to grasp to the general population than even a Bitcoin.

I do want to suggest creating paper wallets as an inherent feature from the beginning, because I feel paper wallets liberate virtual currencies and give them much more intrinsic value to anyone that otherwise has no concept of them. 

Anyone that successfully implements a paper wallet for Netcoin please also help the Bitbar project in doing the same...I have some of those, so I'd love to see it succeed too.  Really, I think paper wallets should be part of the source code from day 1 for all cryptos, and make it easy to redeem them.  That will make crypto currency better all around.

I would say infrastructure is a key component to Alt-coin growth...of which LTC is king.  With many gambling sites and even the occasional floating city, LTC has the backing of you, the newbie who still wants to ride the elevator from the ground floor.  While technically it's a little late for that, it is still fairly early in all of this...and you are lucky to be here. 

I am holding bitbar, so I like it, but read up on it and decide for yourself, BTB could become a huge hit worth vast sums, or fall on its face...much like Bitcoin itself. 

One I am particularly interested in is Netcoin (the real one being developed by TacoTime...watch out for scam versions on this site which people are trying to capitalize on).  It's being announced ahead of time, it has ASIC resistance, and personally, I think the average person can grasp a "netcoin" even more than a "bitcoin"...we are not average on here, so this may seem odd to you...but the average populace has no clue what a bit is, much less a bitcoin...but they all know what the net is.  I just have this feeling people will adopt it quickly, and with BTC as our flagship, we are already creating the infrastructure it will run on. 

Keep an eye on TacoTime's posts if you want to really get in on the ground floor of something.

Worth becomes fairly relative when one BTB becomes "worth" 10 BTC.  I think with enough interest...this is more than possible...it's the likely outcome.

The current payout of .1 would be a pretty nice find at those kinds of rates...and even at their current price are beating BTC on Coinchoose.com right now.  Look at the difficulty of BTC right now...not stopping people from mining...not one bit.
