4061  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Lockdown easing - I'm back in the cafe on: July 14, 2020, 09:33:30 AM
I'm back on the notebook in Morrison'd cafe, and I've got a power socket. The netbook is fine for social posting, but it is a bit restrictive for web site maintenance. Things have changed now. There is a restricted menu, and the tables have plastic partitions between them, and tables are for groups of two of four. Only one person from a party is allowed to pay as well. There are only half as many tables as before, and not many people are using the restaurant at the moment, which is just as well, as there are only 2 staff members to do everything.

Most other places are take away only, and Costa only accept contactless payments, so that blows them out for me. I'll never use contactless, and I modified the one card I had when the bank refused to provide a non-contactless card. I drilled a small hole through the connection to the aerial inside the card. Things are still a bit paranoid, as you have to ask for a serviette. This is in case somebody has touched it before you get it, although the gloveless staff hand you your serviettes.

I'll explore a few others, as I believe Wetherspoon's is now open for coffee, but I think they have a more complex system for ordering and payment. I think I read that you have to install their app, and pay with your phone. That another place that I won't be able to use.

One of the staff memebers has just tripped over the base of one of the lane barriers that they are using. She crashed down whilst carrying a pile of trays, but doesn't seem to have any serious injuries. It shows that there is far more collateral damage as a result of the misguided restrictions that government's are imposing on business and the public. The coronavirus is a fairly minor virus infection - I believe it is ranked at 36 in the severity list, The banker's desire to use it to crash economies and fiat currencies are the real problems, and seem to be taking more lives than the virus.

@Jet Cash I’m not sure why you took a risk of going to a cafe but in my personal opinion you should avoid going out unless it’s absolutely necessary, and I’m saying this because now it’s confirmed that covid spreads through air. Further if I’m correct you’re from UK and your own country expert has warned that covid stays in the air for one hour, and if you yet decide to step out despite this fact, then please use a face shield along with masks and gloves.

Quote

Coronavirus can survive in the air for more than an hour, a top UK Government scientific adviser has warned.

Quote

“You go indoors for the cool, just as in the northeast and other cool places you go in for the warmth in winter, so you’re less socially distanced,” says Edward Nardell, MD, professor of environmental health and immunology and infectious diseases at Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health. “You’re more likely to be touching the same surfaces that have been contaminated by people speaking and coughing etc.,” he says.

4064  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Human trials of corona virus vaccine on: July 13, 2020, 04:48:10 PM
There is news emerging from Russia that a covid-19 vaccine being developed in the country has passed the phase of human trial, an excerpt of the news reads thus:
Quote
Elena Smolyarchuk, chief researcher for the Russian Center for Clinical Research on Medications at Sechenov University, told TASS newswire on Sunday that human trials for the vaccine had been completed and those test patients will be discharged soon.
This news cannot come quicker for countries that are yet to reach their peak and still losing countless numbers of their citizens to corona virus daily. How reliable can this information coming out from Russia be, and if it indeed is true, what does it mean to the world at large and how do you envisage the commercialization process of the vaccine.

Source: https://www.forbes.com/sites/kenrapoza/2020/07/13/russia-completes-human-trials-of-covid-19-vaccine/amp/

I do not argue that the tests could show positive results, but in my opinion, too little time has passed for scientists to make sure that there are no threats to the body, as negative consequences may not appear immediately.

@coyster yea they’re proceeding to the third phase now which should be completed by August, and even though this is exciting news for the world I’m skeptical as to how did they conduct the tests so fast, and how safe will these vaccines actually be. @madnessteat you’re absolutely correct as it’s just been few months since they started the research, and normally a vaccine takes up to 10 year’s to be completed, hence I won’t be taking it even if it launches by this year’s end.

Bitcointalk says that the creator of this topic is scamer its becouse many isers reported duckdice.io as a scame site. So if its fair and the admin are legits then why every one is crying of there trickery ways.

Ehm sorry, but where do you even come from to make that kind of accusation? And who are those "many users" you are referring to? Click on the trust score and read why we had a trust issue and WHEN it was (2017). Are you even our member? And what is the problem that support is done by support and mod team and not by admins? Isn't this what support is for? Admins are site owners and fairly busy people, even though every one of them checks the game daily and talks to players all the time to gather feedback and help in complicated cases.

We used to have a player with the same username as yours, but that user requested an account ban, probably after numerous mutes issued for begging other players in chat and Private Messages.

So is your problem with DuckDice that we do mute people who've been reported for begging?

I haven’t played at DuckDice yet but they do have a valid point that the last scam accusation was in 2017, however @actmyname has left a new feedback in 2020 and they should work on solving it. Further begging for coins in any casino leads to temporary ban, and at times it may even result in permanent bans, hence if they have banned any user for begging then it’s within their rights to ban that particular user.

This is no secret, the people behind that website is pro BCH and it mislead a lot of newbies. If you have been long enough, you will see threads after threads about newbies thinking that it's BTC that they are getting and they go on a lot of problems. And they don't want to mentioned BTC, they call it Bitcoin Core, LOL. And according to them the real BTC is Bitcoin Cash.

@Lucius has a good thread about it, How Not To Buy Fake BTC!.

Not only they are pro BCH, but they tried to destroy BTC with a massive spam attack on the BTC blockchain, and at the same time by pumping up the price of BCH - I think the price difference back then was only some $2000 in favor of BTC.

For all those who missed the show, I recommend reading the chronology of events, and here you can see who of the more influential people turned their backs on the real BTC and supported the copy.

BTC vs BCH. Full chronics of epic battle for cryptocurrency domination - 2017

@Yaunfitda I remember this very well because Roger had the audacity to term Bitcoin Cash as the real bitcoin, and due to this many people ended up buying his worthless coin, and then they regretted their purchases later on but it was too late as BCH prices crashed and they were stuck with a fake bitcoin. @Lucius indeed he tried unsuccessfully to fool people that Bitcoin Cash was the real Bitcoin, and he was supposed to be sued for this, but then the case never really materialised, and he escaped punishment for fooling people and playing with their sentiments.

I'm glad that cricket is back for betting on here as its one of my favourite sports to bet on and that it gives me a chance to build up some golden tickets. Like I mentioned last week I bet on the WI to win as I thought they had a real chance at beating England as I thought both teams were even as there hasn't been any cricket played due to the virus and they just won. I'll use some of the winnings to buy a couple golden tickets and keep the rest for the next match.

@vella85 yea I know your love for cricket as I have been following your posts in the cricket threads, and I do remember that you had predicted that WI would win, and I on the other hand had strongly believed that England would win. However I’m glad that I didn’t follow my gut instincts and placed a bet on England otherwise I would have lost lots of money, but for the next match I’m going to keenly follow your predictions, and implement it on Freebitco sports book with the free Satoshis that I have lying in my Freebitco account.

Couple of days back BCCI official started this news by saying that NZ offered to host IPL but now statement coming from the NZC spoke person and he denies all the rumor by saying its just speculation.  Roll Eyes

New Zealand Cricket has not offered to host IPL 2020, says spokesperson Richard Boock

such an unprofessional work from BCCI.  I think they should be more careful before they publish any news. if New-Zeland host this IPL, I think it will be good.  because the prevalence of coronavirus has decreased in New-Zeland. on the other hand, it is increasing day by day in India. so, it is a difficult work for BCCI that organizing IPL in India.

Some things are not just clear, how can there be so much gap between the BCCI and NZ spokesperson statements where one said that NZ has offered to host IPL and NZ spokesperson straight away denied it. Also, some of the IPL franchise have started to lose the hope of having IPL in 2020 due to current situations.

Yes, how is this possible?
BCCI claims NZ board offered it and NZ board straight away denies it so, what is cooking between these boards? You will never know it.

By November this year, India will be at the top of the COVID19 list. Every day there is a new record on the number of patients getting infected by this virus. It will be next to impossible for BCCI to conduct IPL in such condition in India.

I agree with you that  it will be very hard for BCCI to host IPL in their own country India . because covid-19 is being infected in horrible from in india.  if BCCI will hosts IPL in india then players from others countries will not come . so BCCI should decide to host IPL on NZ or UAE . i think BCCI should request the nz cricke board . otherwise IPL will not take place in this year.

There can be another possibility. The New Zealand government may have made the offer to the BCCI, without the knowledge of NZC. Similar incident already happened a few days back in Australia, when the government made statement regarding the T20 World Cup without the knowledge of the Australian board. If that was the case, then I would rather blame the official from the NZC.

@Vishnu.Reang you have brought up an interesting theory, but until BCCI confirms your theory people will continue to blame them for spreading misinformation about the IPL. @swordsoffreedom IPL is definitely going to take place because BCCI doesn’t wishes to lose out on the revenue that IPL generates, and secondly the possible location for IPL is UAE which should be confirmed shortly.

Just an inquiry. Now that the champion's league format has changed according to the planned resumption like cancellation of 2-legged games, Is there any chance the Invincible game will proceed, or we should just forget about it?
If it's cancelled what happens to the initial streak winning some members made earlier on in the season before the COVID Crisis?

Yeah, it will for sure have to proceed differently, but I do see it's no longer listed on the new homepage as of today (but still on the old version) now that the legs are decided. I think a lot of teams will fancy their chances at this one-legged affair, but it's such a shame cause I was currently on a good streak (4 in a row).

BTW, who else got Jimenez on this week's Majestic Seven? Not that I'll win anything, already missed 3! Last week had 4/7 so it was really frustrating ARGH.

@JeromeTash I believe that FJ will definitely change the rules for the Invincible Jackmate contest, but I don’t expect them to cancel it. @buywaytress I didn’t have him on my team, and this week I only got only one right, but I’m yet not losing hope because the season is yet not over, and who knows I may just get lucky and win the big price in the last remaining games.
4070  Economy / Economics / Re: Is the US economy suddenly recovering? on: July 12, 2020, 01:17:50 PM
US is witnessing the second wave of the pandemic recently with over 50k cases recorded recently in a day which goes a long way to tell us the economy recovery will be very difficult. Currently the US government is having a serious argument with the education board that has makes it clear that student will not resume schools. US economy recovery policy is flexible but there is currently no certainty that the economy will recover rapidly

If that is the case, then an economic recovery may take many years. During the last 4-5 days, the United States has reported anywhere between 60,000 to 70,000 cases per day. And remember that this count is even more than the highest daily count we had, even during the peak of the first wave (when states such as New York and New Jersey were affected in April-May).

@Vishnu.Reang yea the US economy is faltering again, and the recent surge in cases is the primary reason why the economy has started falling downwards again. Further the jobs sector which had gained in June has also gone down, and this is not a good sign for the US citizens. Lastly I’m not sure how will Trump be able to accelerate the economy by September, as he had claimed that by September US economy will be back on track.

^ I don't think BCCI will be looking to host IPL in country like Sri Lanka because they have always security issues due to inside war causes so BCCI will choose UAE if possible. But I am not seeing any news regarding cricket in local media for too long, that's why I thought IPL 2020 has been completely cancelled.
I am sure you wake up after many years because now Sri Lanka is very safe country and no security issues they already done some very good improvements in many fields and BCCI is not going to face any issue regard this but right now no one is sure about this because all things going in limbo until we are not sure about twenty/20 world cup announcement.
Not really, you can see even in 2019 there was a bomb blast in Churches and Luxury hotels.Still there are riots between two communities in SL so I don't think many countries will never allow their players to play on that kind of place.

If the government of srilanka puts adequate security measures then I do not it will be an issue. I think more than security covid19 is a big issue everywhere. Srilanka is still better place with less number of positive cases.

@pakitheboss according to the BCCI president it’s important to stage the IPL because 10 - 20% of the revenue is distributed among all the boards, and this I believe is a big hint for us that IPL will be organised soon (hint: all boards love money don’t they?). Although he was silent on the location it seems that the authority’s are narrowing it down to UAE, as IPL was organised out there in the past, hence I too feel that IPL will be organised in UAE only.

Few days ago I posted a post in which I said that the Trump is puppet of the Putin. Some guys were fighting about this.

Post link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5258823.msg54704214#msg54704214

And now everyone can see in this article the Trump is on the first step. And it is showing that he is puppet of Putin. And confirmed the cyber attack of 2018.

Source:. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/07/10/trump-confirms-an-interview-us-cyberattack-russia/

@gmjutt6 I read the article and from what I read it felt that Trump was acting independently, and not under the influence of Russia, so can you please explain which part of this article makes you feel that Trump is a puppet of Putin?.

How cleverly the media is brainwashing American citizens. I am more than confident that in the future this black revolution, which is currently taking place in the U.S., will also be attributed to Russia's actions aimed at destroying the integrity of the United States. But few people think that this is the work of those who hinder Trump's work to restore America's greatness.

Just one point to bring in to all of this regarding the media. I think it's important for all of us to know, all around the world, that the media in any country is deliberatetly biased in some way and are trying to make the people think a certain way. The media is the gatekeepers to what news is selectwed, and then from there they handle how it is portrayed to people.

So it's not just the brainwashing of American citizens, it's the brainwashing of all citizens by their own particular government.

But based on the topic here: Trump has said time and time again that he won't talk about what is being done against a particular country (in war, counter intelligence, etc)

@squatz1 yea that’s media’s job to create clickbait titles, false news anything that can go viral they’ll publish it, but in this article it felt that Trump had taken strong steps against Russia so I don’t understand why he’s being criticised for this?.

Some quotes from the article:

Quote

I could give you 30 different things,” he said. “I sent [Ukraine] a massive number of antitank busters. I sent them military equipment and Obama sent them nothing. That’s against Russia,” he says. “I made us the number one oil-producing country in the world. It wasn’t even close. I made us number one — that’s bad for Russia.”

Quote

Trump has used that military against Russia, and not just in cyberspace. The New York Times reported that U.S. forces killed several hundred Russian mercenaries during a February 2018 firefight in eastern Syria.

Quote

Talking about his efforts to counter Russia, the president also pointed to his success in persuading NATO members to increase their contributions to the transatlantic alliance. “I raised $140 billion from NATO countries going up to $400 billion [over three years], and what’s the purpose of NATO? Russia.”

4073  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: July 12, 2020, 04:25:50 AM
Juventus made a comeback, but Atalanta won our heart. Those penalties were legit indeed, but the fact that Juventus couldn't scored from open play proves Atalanta had better quality in this match. Well Atalanta deserves 2nd position more than Lazio.
The match shows that Atalanta position for now in Serie A and their achievements in Champions League are not because of luckiness. Indeed, they are very strong team. Excellent in attacking operations.

The total goals scored in Serie A by Atalanta maybe make us surprised but the match is a liveshow that demonstrates how strong Atalanta are.
1st half Atalanta is winning, the goal could be deleted by the VAR for a fault but Atalanta is dominating so far.
Atalanta got a draw because of personal mistakes but they deserve a win match.
Atalanta deserves second place in Serie A, for team play and entertainment on the pitch, too bad for the 2-2. Even though the penalties were legitimate, the penalty rule is so ridiculous.
I agree with you both on the second position for Atalanta this season. Lazio has been in their poor period and I don't see signals that they will come back soon. The season is coming to the end and Atalanta with their fabulous form have due chances to end at 2nd position on the table.

@hd49728 I was impressed by how Atlanta started the match by attacking Juventus, and that showed their intent was to win this match, but Juventus were awarded a late penalty and that meant Atlanta had to settle for a draw. Further I was disappointed with those controversial penalty decisions given against Atlanta, but then again I’m sure that Atlanta will carry this momentum in the new season, and challenge Juventus for the title what do you’ll think of their title credentials for the new season?.

Madrid deserves victory today...
Benzema and Asensio were the saviors of the match, although the goal of Asensio was beyond expectations but the referee's decision was valid, Hala Madrid.
Real Madrid won three points when they hosted Alaves at the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano on Saturday (11/7) in the morning and ended the match 2-0.  Penalties from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio brought Los Blancos closer to winning the 2019/20 La Liga title.

The victory makes Real Madrid back to maintain the difference of four points with Barcelona, who are in second place standings.  Zinedine Zidane's team only needs to win two matches so they can win the 34th La Liga title for Los Blancos.

I was very happy that real madrid. now we only need to win two games like you said and I hope that Granada and Villareal do not create any unpleasant surprises

Anywho, Sociedad ML at 1.80 odds, a bit high but i'll add it to a parlay with some Liga NOS matches  Cool

I stopped placing bets on games involving the Portuguese league because it became very difficult to predict the games, I was even surprised by the poor performance of Benfica and Porto being at a great advantage

Real Sociedad 2 - 3 Granada

for a moment I thought this game would end in a draw

@slow death I don’t think that those two teams will pose any real challenge for Real Madrid, because Real Madrid has superior player's in their squad, and further they have already won so many matches back to back, hence they’ll be playing with more confidence then their opponents, therefore I’m not worried about those two teams.

Just records to make now, and a victory to pursue. I know Barca won't just give up even though most of us fans have already done so. So hard to see Real slipping up now when penalties and VAR are all with them (not unfairly, just their luck good for them). But in football we always hope, right?

@slaman29 I can understand your feelings, as you’re a Barcelona fan so it’ll be hard for you to see Real Madrid lifting the league title, but even you’ll have to admit that post the covid break Real Madrid player’s were transformed, and they truly deserved to win the La Liga title.

So now that we know when the Bundesliga will start in its next season, it will be interesting to see how the whole Corona situation develops until then. Will we have a second wave in fall as some are afraid? Or will we even be able to see the fans back in the stadiums in September. Anyway, Union Berlin is already planing with a full stadium at the first matchday  As long as you have a negative Covid-19 test, you're allowed to enter the stadium. At least that's their plan. I am just wondering who will pay for these 20.000 tests? Roll Eyes The German health insurance companies won't be the ones, that's for sure. And that the fans are willing to pay the ~40 € for the test out of their own pockets in addition to the usual ticket fees and take the trouble to get tested can be highly doubted  Roll Eyes

IMO, it is highly unlikely to see full stadiums in the autumn
it is hard to keep distance on the stadium, there would have to be a lot of security personnel and would not be an enjoyable experience, moreover first corona meltdown due to matches, and all will be off

That is dangerous. A test is just a snapshot. If you tested negative two days ago, you can suddenly be contagious today. A throat and nasal swab must be taken for detection. If it is done correctly, it is not fun. Very unpleasant. Some fans will only do it once.

@bct_ail I’ll second that as this is indeed dangerous as medical reports can be faked, and even it those reports are true then those persons can yet be carriers, and they can spread the virus ahead. Also it seems that the government is on board with this plan, but I sincerely hope that they’ll understand the gravity of the situation, and then they’ll revoke their permissions.

4077  Economy / Economics / Re: The Decentralized Economy During COVID-19 on: July 11, 2020, 07:30:43 AM
Ever since COVID-19 took the world by storm, people have been resorting to the world of "Decentralized Finance" (De-Fi). Ethereum-based smart contracts provide many services known in the traditional banking industry such as lending and borrowing. There's been a boom in "De-Fi" tokens over the past months as the mainstream economy loses traction.

If the current monetary system collapses in its entirety, people will dive in the decentralized economy like never before. It seems that COVID-19 is accelerating adoption of decentralized cryptocurrencies as we speak. The longer the outbreak takes to disappear, the better it'll be for the growth of "Decentralized Finance". I've seen many people talking about ETH's several "De-Fi" platforms, bringing some hype to the industry. Compound tokens (COMP), and even DAI have increased in popularity in such a short amount of time.

Do you think that COVID-19 will become extremely beneficial to the decentralized economy in the long term? Is "De-Fi" way overhyped these days? What will happen with crypto once COVID-19 comes to an end? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Smiley

I think defi has a yet to be fixed flaw in that it requires someone with high liquidity assets to be put up as collateral. You can't yet, even though it'd be more beneficial to, take a loan out on less collatoralised debt such as stocks afaik and you calso can't do it with real estate (I.e with a 30% deposit so you still have to 150% collateral at start).

Defi is good for releasing $ from crypto and may evolve to add better options for non smart coins like btc (with htlcs or something) but for now I'm a but skeptical as to the uses of the current stable coins. I haven't used compound but I had to convert 1300 dai before and found I could get 1320 usdc on coinbase for it which I think is a bit of a problem (but that could just be me, it's like giving a euro of change instead of a pound imo though)...

It looks like. Its just for traders now, if it expands from that then it might be good.

@Abiky I haven’t seen much demand for these De-FI tokens, and one possible reason that I can cite is that they’re not as popular as Bitcoin is among the masses. Furthermore @jackg has also put up a valid point that these tokens maybe popular among the traders only, and hence the masses have ignored them. Lastly due to Covid people’s interest in bitcoins has spiked upwards, and I believe that this spiked interest shall further fuel the adoption rate in bitcoins in the long run.

England's performance would have been better if "Root" & "Buttler" had played. best wishes for west indies team.
Root has not been in form for quite sometime now and Buttler did play and scored 30 something runs in the 1st innings. However, Root's inclusion could have helped if he somehow regained his form.

Lead down to two figures and hopefully they will give a careful start tomorrow morning. I am hopeful for England in this innings.
I am rooting for Holder and Gabriel to take quick wickets and put pressure back on England. Stokes is the big wicket here. If they get him quickly, it is probably game over for England.

but first we need 300+ runs from England for this all otherwise its not going to help them at all.
It's totally possible as long as Stokes stays in the middle and scores freely. West Indies will probably try to take him out asap.

@Royse777 England are now trailing West Indies by 99 runs, and I never expected them to underperform in this match, and further if West Indies player’s can take few early wickets once the play resumes, then England player’s will find themselves in an uncomfortable position. Also I feel that I’m going to be proved wrong for saying that West Indies won’t be able to beat England, but I’m yet hoping that England player’s will step up and win this game.

BREAKING NEWS!
Alonso is going to race and return back to the F1 in 2021.
He is going to race for Renault. This sounds very interesting!

Could be good for F1 I guess...  But I think getting some new faces and talents in is a better idea imho.

Anyway what's next for Vettel?  I could see him pair up with Verstappen and Hamilton.  Both Albon and Bottas look despensible.

Mercedes were clear on their view on Bottas. He will stay with the team and I think he started the Championship with the right foot this year by getting a win in the first race.Vettel lately is doing a lot of errors which is why he is not offered a new contract from Ferrari.Alonso is a great driver but the age is not in his favor so I don’t expect anything from him next year except a podium as a maximum achievement.

Mercedes have a good team, Hamilton as #1 and Bottas as good an "thank you" sing man the also can win. Never change a running and good system i think. For Mercedes no reason and i think Bottas cheaper than Vettel. Mercedes lern from the #1 pair Hamilton/Rosberg

Quote

It is mainly good for Alonso itself... Guess he needs some extra cash, as with his Renault car, he will never be able to claim a top spot in any race.
The return of Alonso means one spot less for a young talent, who don't have the network or cash to claim the spot.

I believe that we all are on the same page, that Alonso return is nothing to be excited about because he’s not young anymore, and I may just cheer for him because of sentimental reasons, but realistically I’m not expecting him to win any races. Furthermore Vettle has openly declared that he may walk out of F1 if he doesn’t get a lucrative contract, so do you’ll believe that he will actually walk away from F1?, or it’s just his ploy to get a lucrative contract from one of the rival teams?.

^^
Real need to beat City by 2 goals to advance, I think they are out. I have a good feeling for Bayern this season, I’m not sure why. I think they have the best balance throughout the team, a good defence, midfield & attack. Some of the other teams have great attacks but lack in other areas.

@DeathAngel in my personal opinion Real Madrid can yet advance and win the champions league, as they have completely transformed themselves post the covid break, and if they continue playing like how they’re playing in La Liga then they should definitely win this fixture. Further Zidane job hangs in the balance as he needs to win both La Liga and the champions league to save his job, and therefore I believe that Real Madrid player’s will be motivated to win this fixture and help him save his job.
