4121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are some interesting ways you've introduced bitcoin to your friends? on: July 05, 2021, 11:26:04 PM
I have a number of friends who I have introduced Bitcoin to and explained in a very basic
way "what it is", "how it works" and "how to get it". None have pulled the trigger and committed...

until last week when one of them came into a small bit of financial difficulty, he asked me
about Bitcoin and I asked him if he remembered last April [2020] when I first explained to
him, he said he did and I told him how much of a gain he would have realised since then,
he was shocked! I re-introduced Bitcoin to him.

Because of the bit of difficulty he finds himself in he is liquidating his redundant pension to
solve the issue and putting what is left into Bitcoin!

Sometimes some people need to experience first hand what they have missed out on,
they see risk and are too quick to close the door on a potential opportunity, its never too late though!

What a surprise, Alexander Zverev has been eliminated. Federer plays his match confidently in 3 sets it seems. Medvedev's match is interrupted but it is not an easy match for him and he still has to make an effort. Djokovic also won his match confidently in 3 sets.

What a day, a lot happening today, I had two bets on, safe enough ones TBH,
Medvedev and Federer to win. Hopefully Medvedev can finish it out tomorrow.

Big upsets also today, Rublev beaten by Fucsovics who is having a good year
for himself so far and Zverev beaten by Felix AA.

On the womens side Jabeur beats Swiatek. Ons Jabeur from Tunisia is making her
own headlines as being her first time into a quarter final and first Tunisian also, she
now faces Sabalenka, a big task.
4123  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Thread to gather all redundant links to the bitcoin whitepaper on: July 05, 2021, 12:01:33 PM
Ah I used 1 weeks signature campaign reward to register a domain and hosting.
I was able to pay with Bitcoin direct and didnt have to provide or verify any
personal information other than an e-mail.

I'm now learning web design and SEO (basic) so its all good. The more people who
host the Whitepaper and node software the harder it will be to attack everyone.

Services used for anyone interested in doing the same:

Very good! I see you didnt list the nakamotoinstitute site, also Michael Saylor's Microstrategy
is hosting the whitepaper

https://www.microstrategy.com/en/bitcoin/documents/bitcoin-a-peer-to-peer-electronic-cash-system

This coindesk article from January this year lists a few more sites hosting it too.

https://www.coindesk.com/why-everyone-from-square-to-facebook-is-now-hosting-the-bitcoin-white-paper

I am working on a basic site to host the whitepaper and code and will list all the links too.

There are a lot of surprises in the women's competition, many favorites have already dropped out of the tournament, so it is very difficult to say who will win this tournament.
Maybe Barty, Pliskova or Sabalenka, Gauff is probably still too young.
What do you think?
Yes, the women's section is always full of surprises. In recent years, Grand Slam champions have almost always been filled with new names.
Gauff is still very young but she could be the next surprise, Sabalenka and pliskova are my favorites and Barty are still very solid so far, It's hard to predict who will make it to the final and lift the throphy.

What surprised me the most over the last couple of years is how out of a sudden Serena Williams' dominance literally fell apart. She smashed them all, sometimes 6-0 6-0, and everyone thought she is going to break the grand slam championship record by miles. That dominance over within just no time. It doesn't feel like she could return successfully and become number one again. I am curious when Djokovic's dominance will be broken.

As for Serena, I think there are three reasons why her dominance in women's tennis has ended: pregnancy and a temporary career break, the new tennis star Osaka and Serena's age.
Unfortunately, I believe it can be said that pregnancy stopped Serena in her tennis career and prevented her from winning a record number of GS titles.
When Serena finally returned, a new tennis star appeared, Osaka, and she beat Serena in several big GS finals and now Serena is already an older and slower player, at the end of her career and with more frequent injuries.
Djokovic's dominance is likely to take several more years.

Thats it, the break from the tour by Serena was enough to allow the
younger ones to progress while she became older and slower which
is her weakness now I think, she can still hit powerful winners for
sure but the top younger generation know how to play and beat her.
She is not winning another GS, unfortunately for her.
Anyway its just a record there to be matched or broken, she has done
almost everything already, she wont be forgotten.

Earlier in the year Djokovic was a mixed bag for Djokovic, but when
it comes to GS time he performs differently, he becomes this unstoppable force.
We all know what he aiming for this year, 4 from 4!

MonteCarlo Masters - Beaten in R16

4126  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mircea Popescu died leaving 1 Million BTC behind? on: July 04, 2021, 12:42:45 PM
dunno, it would help my credulity along a ways if he had died in a less corrupt part of the world.

I'm reading: "Man with 1,000's of BTC issued a death certificate in a corrupt country, had humongous ego + known history of high level trolling/manipulating"

Yes, this definitely leaves a suspicion similar to the case of Gerald Cotten who went to India and reportedly passed away, while also taking with him all the private keys of his crypto exchange. Of course, the situation is not nearly the same in the sense that Popescu is scamming someone (although there are various accusations against him), but money can buy everything, especially in countries where everyone is corrupt.

Information that can be found about him says that the man was a racist and sexist, and that his blog was even banned in India. When we draw the line below everything, he was definitely (or still is) a controversial person.

https://gadgets.ndtv.com/cryptocurrency/news/mircea-popescu-bitcoin-billionaire-dies-at-41-2474796

Its funny, my wife mentioned this to me this morning, that some rich Bitcoiner drowned,
I had to investigate and here he is or was Mircea Popescu.

The more I read of him the more I dislike, racism and sexism are two of the most ugly traits.
I doubt he has left the keys to his crypto to anyone if indded he has died,
but will someone find them? that is intriguing.

Popescu is also known for being behind MPEx, a bitcoin securities exchange he started back in 2012. It became a hub for bitcoin IPOs and brought him a lot of negative attention from the SEC among others. He went on to loudly criticized Ripple and Bitcoin Savings and Trust because he viewed them as scams. The latter turned out to be right about. But his behavior as much as his views made him so well known in the industry. Popescu was loud, brash, and as unapologetic as one can be. It became his signature and grew him a large fan base despite documented cases of sexism and racism.
4127  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours on: July 04, 2021, 08:52:08 AM
Ha Ha, yes it was a BAD miss that last kick. It was a crucial moment in the game,
Those misses happen, Ireland had it in this years Six Nations, last play and kicking
for a lineout against Wales, score was 21-16 to Wales....and the ball was kicked dead!

Just when we thought it was going to be easy betting against The Broncos, along
comes Kotoni Staggs and things change, they beat The Sharks 26-18.

So im 3 from 4 this weekend in the NRL, not bad.
4128  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: July 03, 2021, 11:36:51 PM
Good to hear the Federer has won again, it seems that he is getting back to his form. It was a tough battle against Norrie. Sonego is next, but he is more of a clay court player, so I guess Federer has some advantage of him.

Medvedev has to be stretch by Cilic in a 5 setter, it's a good comeback from Medvedev as he is down 2 sets but he recovers himself and won the next 3.

Very happy with Medvedev's win and performance to come from 2 sets down
to take the final 3 sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-2, that is some turn around, and helps my pot
to increase too!

There was also a lot of firsts in that match, first time coming back from 2 sets down
and first time reaching R4 in wimbledon.

4129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Article: The Craig Wright May 2016 Signing Sessions Debacle, In Full Context on: July 03, 2021, 11:24:49 PM
Voted.

For the life of me I cannot understand how this whole  work of fiction has come to
the latest real casualty in bitcoin.org being issued to remove the Whitepaper and
Cobra having to pay costs.

The big flashing multicoloured Elephant in the room taking a dump and spraying water
everywhere is being totally ignored, the only proof of identity is signing with a
Satoshi PGP Key, dont have it, lost it, dog ate it, waiting for it to be delivered?
yea come back to us when you get it, until then eff-off.

No offence to Cobra or any of the other victims of Faketoshi but surely a
recognised cryptographer would be able to explain to any court the simplicities
of signing a message, surely it cant be that simple...
4130  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: July 03, 2021, 07:17:25 AM
Djokovic didnt have much problems in this match only in third set where he was down a break. But won in straight sets again. Was even thinking that Djokovic was gone a knock him out badly because Kudla plays from the baseline but he holded himself really well. Djokovic vs Garin should also be an easy win for Djokovic,Garin is a clay type player so not expecting much from him
Tough match in third set make my bet win. Until now, Djokovic's performance is still solid, but it's not impossible that young players can make it difficult for him to move to the next round

Today's match which I think is interesting to follow
F. Augur-Aliassime vs. N. Kyrgios
M. Cilic vs. D. Medvedev
R. Federer vs. C. Norrie
Placing a bet on these three matches, again just choose the total games.

Very interesting matches indeed with the most interesting one I recon is Felix AA v Kyrgios.
Felix is going well and is consistent so far as is Nick, can he keep it together to beat Felix?

I have one Tennis bet on today as funds allow, Medvedev to beat Cillic.

Norrie is also going well and Federer is not at his best, very interesting match up, how will
the audience react to a Brit against Wimbledons Favourite?
4131  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will El Salvador become the "Home of Bitcoin"? on: July 03, 2021, 06:50:07 AM
First of all, El Salvador will not become the home of Bitcoin. El Salvador is not a world power and cannot play a leading role in the international mainstream. Second, as the first country to use Bitcoin as legal tender, El Salvador is not mandatory to use Bitcoin. The transaction is optional with the U.S. dollar, which greatly reduces the use of Bitcoin in El Salvador. In the future, it is unlikely that other countries will use Bitcoin as legal currency. Currency is the lifeblood of the country's economy, and the country should not easily hand over control to virtual currencies. This is my personal opinion.

But El Salvador uses the U.S Dollar as its FIAT currency, therefore it has no control
over it, they would have more of an infleuence on Bitcoin if they continue "supporting"
its adoption from useage to mining than they have on the U.S Dollar.

I agree, this is something I have been thinking but never got the chance to articulate
it here on the forum. El Salvador has been a third world country forever, The new
president Bukele has done something radical, what is the alternative? continue with
the $ in the face of rising inflation and a weakening currency taking the country
from poor to poorer? This is the chance to lift the country higher if it is handled correctly.
4132  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours on: July 02, 2021, 10:30:11 PM
Ah I'm not following the U20's Six Nations, just dont have the time with
Wimbledon, Euros and dabbling in the NRL!

You called it right for The Panthers by 1 point, well done! close game
and The Eels missing a penalty kick in the last minute, thats tough
and a very imortant moment to go ahead of The Panthers and into 2nd.

I have another bet on The Sharks to beat The Broncos . . . and hopefully
I will have a bit more to put on the Rabbitohs.

4133  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: July 02, 2021, 10:15:26 PM
I was hoping for Belgium to win, but Italy won, the match was good and I think that if Belgium opened the scoring they had every chance to win.
Now we are waiting for an excellent semi-final Italy - Spain, at the moment Italy looks like the favorite in this confrontation. Hopefully we'll see a lot of goals here.

Yes that would have been a great result for a kind of dream team from Belgium
even though they are ranked #1 in the world they never won a major tournament
apart from an Olympic title, that is a record of sorts!

Quote
To date, Belgium is the only national team in the world to top the FIFA ranking without having won a World Cup or a continental trophy.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgium_national_football_team

Switzerland were unlucky today not to beat Spain, even down to 9 men they forced
Spain to penalties.
Italy for sure look like the will beat Spain. Looking at Spains stats against Switzerland
doesnt paint a great picture.

73% Possesion and 28 shots with 10 on target and 13 corners
4134  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So, you want to get sued by a scammer? on: July 02, 2021, 04:16:38 PM
Is anyone else planning on hosting the whitepaper and code?

It can be done anonymously through >
https://www.orangewebsite.com with a domain name and availing of a basic hosting package.
They accept crypto payment and dont require personal information.

I thought it would spark more people to make a stand.

4135  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: For "Bitcoin Ded" Topic creators on: July 02, 2021, 06:34:23 AM
There is definitely a motive to the creation of these "Bitcoin Ded" threads and that
is to relieve newbies of their recent investment. The useless threads may sound
useless and ridiculous but when timed right to coincide with big market movements
can actually add to the FUD. We have seen this in the latest price correction. The
only people who sold are the ones who chose to and the ones who panicked.

Its hard to measure how effective these nonsense threads are, all we can do is to try and
bombard them with sense.

4136  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: July 01, 2021, 10:27:13 PM
It's a shame Germany lost, I didn't like England's game... They didn't play football and they didn't let Germany play! It was a classic England bus... I hope Ukraine can win them, although it's almost unreal...  Grin

This is not disrespectful to Germany. England is not a weak team. Germany and England are teams of the same standard. However, Germany did not play well in the second half. They didn't have much chance to counter-attack after conceding a goal. We have seen lots of attacks and counter-attacks in Switzerland va France's match. But we didn’t see it in the match between Germany and England.

England are actually or were favourites to win the tournament and from looking
at the Sweden v Ukraine game last night England should come through that match.

Maybe we didn't see the same game, but England didn't play well against Germany. Germany played badly and England played mediocre. England has scored only four goals so far and three of them were scored by Sterling. That says a lot. For me England is not a favorite even if they have all the games at home at Wembley from the semifinals on. So far Italy, Spain and Czech Republic have convinced me the most.

We did see the same game and I agree the performances havent been wow, I'm just
going on what I hear here in the media.

I dont think its clear cut yet, Belgium as @AakZaki replied to my post mentioned and
Italy so far for me have a little more something about them. I like this actually,
even though I lost a lot on some of the Favourites, its nice to see the likes of the
Czech Republic, Ukraine and Switzerland in the final stages of the tournament.
4137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Thread to gather all redundant links to the bitcoin whitepaper on: July 01, 2021, 06:26:58 PM
So as per Greg's suggestion on the other thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5346573.msg57348503#msg57348503,
are people going to notify "Ontier" that they are hosting the Bitcoin Whitepaper and software
or are you all going to leave it and let them find you eventually?

I ask this because I'm in the process of hosting the articles as anonymously as I can
and dont want to bother with notification.
4138  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours on: July 01, 2021, 12:25:19 PM
Well I'm happy enough with Storm's win, another white wash score.

Next up with as you say almost even odds is The Sea Eagles, kinda waste of time
but I dont want to risk betting on close odds.

That game between the Panthers and Eels should be a cracker! will definitely try and
watch extended highlights if I can find them.
4139  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Thread to gather all redundant links to the bitcoin whitepaper on: June 30, 2021, 09:46:41 PM
Here is also a good resource, I'm sure you all know of it.

Hosting the original whitepaper with Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional),
Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese translations.

Also hosting PGP Code, Emails, Forum Posts, Code and quotes.
4140  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours on: June 30, 2021, 07:07:56 PM
And I checked last night and the Rugby Union was listed, Strange.

Anyway Round 16 in the NRL coming up and starting tomorrow.

Im almost liquidated at this stage due to some terrible against the odds losses
in the EURO21 tournament. I've been able to claw some losses back with some
Tennis wins so I'm betting one NRL game at a time, hopefully there's a Storm brewing!
