A short look in   bitcoincharts.org :

Bitcoins sent last 24h         185,255.26 BTC
Bitcoins sent avg. per hour     7,718.97 BTC

That is really very low and maybe a sign for many people see Bitcoin just as an investment instead of trading exchange.
My hope is BTC will rise slowly - but I see the risk that it will hoik up to go down very fast after that.

Encrypt your wallet and spread it over some cloud spaces in the internet
424  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think BTC will hit $200? on: July 13, 2013, 10:15:29 AM
I think BTC will grow quiet fast. Anytime a goverment makes another unsuccessful try to stop it it will grow more after.

For myself I started to buy around 0.5 BTC any day it the course drops - more if it drops more. If everybody does ist like this BTC will stabilize and start to grow faster.
425  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Size of BTC blockchain centuries from now... on: July 10, 2013, 12:01:06 AM
I do not see the actual problem.

True - the blockchain has an incredible length of 10GB now. And some BTC users might not want to handle this.

But ..

1. anybody is free to use a lightweight client

2. compression is part of any modern file or operating system

3. according to the statistics it is growing now by 5GB every 6 month - I think as long as this is not a traffic or computational problem it should not be a storage problem due to current hard drive sizes.

Where the heck is the point ? Finally there will be a group of miners, secondly a group of heavy weight client users and thirdly the crowd of lightweight client users. Maybe from a security point of view the situation becomes serious if the number of blockchain users drops under a certain level which I do not see now.

I use a heavyweight client currently mayself and still have no problem with the size.

427  Economy / Speculation / Re: $1,000,000 for a Bitcoin? on: May 19, 2013, 04:36:18 PM
Too many dreamers are in here.

FIrstly BTC suffers a lot from its volatility.  If BTC raises too fast to high values that will be worth and finally its value will drop. I set a grow limit at 10% per month - everything beyond that is not good anymore. For long term that means BTC cannot grow more than 200% each year - means the exchange rate at the middle of next year will be around 1 BTC eq 300 USD.

ANd this Szenario already presumes that the rate itself is held more or less stable. That again presumes no effective government attacks and a limited speculation.

My recommendation is everybody starts to trade BTC on the current price base over  https://localbitcoins.com keeping the coins in the market will stabilize the course.

Maybe - if you are able to follow the BTC address chain to the target address - you have a slight chance to get the IP address of the thief:

Man i would never put an answer here but i have to. It seems most of you aren't aware of the fact that bitcoin clients connect to an irc server to find more nodes. Its very simple to get the ip address of each client that connects to that irc server. Im currently in the process of linking this to bitcoin address and transactions, but im sure its nothing but an hour or two away. Just a little digging.
429  Economy / Speculation / Re: $1 Trillion Bitcoin on: May 01, 2013, 02:07:41 PM
I want to contribute some small thoughts to this discussion:

1. the amount of calculated BTC is split into two parts - one part which is in use and another part which people store in a safe space, which may in a later phase have a heavy impact on the BTC market

2. the current value of money derives from two aspects: firstly the summed up goods and services available for the money in use (see pt.1); and secondly the money users (owners) expectation on the value development - the harbour safed BTC amount is no more or less a speculation on increasing value

3. the course (value) balance for BTC therefore is a game between circulating BTC, market growth and number of market partitipants. Always with the overlay of the impact safed BTC amount have when they are flooded into the market which is especially high due to the fact that many people seem to be in a gold rush (which may also end up in a cold rush Smiley )

My personal expectation is that BTC has a good chance to grow quite quickly in value if the market base grows quite quickly. That means if people adopt the currency and start to trade their goods and services also in BTC. Also projects like Bitmit or BitcoinATM have key influence on this.

On the other side goverments, financial institutes and everybody who profits from the currently installed interest based monetary system will start to fight Bitcoins with whatever they find to suppress it - e.g. legal attacks (criminalisation of BTC users and markets for money laundering), technical infrastructure attacks (DoS attacks, crypto attacks, social attacks etc.) and what else they might find.

The interesting question is if this money virus like concept will find a market stability which create more trust than rumors and attacks can destroy.

To forecast any course development in a market which is in the current phase dominated by speculation is simply ridiculus. I expect growing rates with growing volatility which again has a negative impact on peoples trust. Maybe it would be good if some potential market participants would take over the role of market makers to stabilize the course development.
430  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin-24.com matching engine seems broken, site down. on: April 15, 2013, 05:36:09 PM
In that case - good luck for all having some fund stuck in bitcoin-24.  Sad
431  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin-24.com matching engine seems broken, site down. on: April 15, 2013, 04:45:37 PM
I did some transactions on btc24. This situation does not provide much trust for further business with this platform. Aside from that I was not alwas sure about the computations in btc24 - even I did never complain due to that only small values were affected.

My recommendation is to complete outstanding debits (with a lawyer if necessary) and to use different market places in future. Aside from trust worthy market MtGox a highly distributed solution is needed which can only be based on a 'everybody is a market place' paradigm. Personally I registered with localbitcoins.com, which seems to be one of the best OTC solutions by now. There is space for a new paralleled and distributed service for the near future. -- if anyone with a profound technical knowledge base is interestet in specification and setup he may contact me.

@Valerian77

Bid   Volume   BTC      EUR
76.19   2288 (3)   6300      483937
69.34   1666 (7)   21186   1554125
68.96   5223 (3)   27082   1960799
