321  Economy / Speculation / Re: Old Trend vs New Trend vs Unsustainable Bubble ??? + "6 Step Pattern Analysis" on: October 31, 2013, 12:04:26 PM
... we should expect the trend line go up after each boom [boom-burst events , fundamentals are affected by awareness]. ... new trend line would be parallel to the old line (0.46% a day), but above it, on 4x distance. So in one year time we can expect 300*(200/55) ~ 1100 USD.

Agree fundamentally. Oda explains the background:

... boundaries: Barring catastrophic news, the "old trend" will mark the lower bound, while the upper bound is probably marked by what you call the "new trend", barring extremely *good* news re: adoption and awareness. (keep in mind, while the *relative* increase, roughly one order of magnitude, has many precedents in btc history, the *absolute* amount of money needed to enter the market increases -- it's not imossible that this will happen, but it will require some particularly good news, like a large enough online retailer accepting btc, or something like that)

In the world there is a fundamental trend for increasing acceptance of Bitcoin which is a strong supporter for the the lower bound (0.46% a day). But on top every boom burst event shifts or lifts the trendline upwards.

The top 100 addresses are also listed in the Bitcoin ladder on the Bitcoin wiki. (And from this numbers it can also seen that the Bitcoin wiki is not up to date).

Here is the histogram:

Looks like nothing changes too much.
324  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wallet Security on: October 30, 2013, 04:39:51 PM
This discussion is not new. In my opinion most of the analysis is going too far.

Clearly a virus or malware infected system is bad anyways and a special danger for wallets. So first thing before one starts to handle with Bitcoin wallets is to clean the system or use Linux with a dedicated user account - suggested software and procedure for Windows:
 - Superantispyware
 - Avast Antivirus
 - SpyBot
 - CCleaner
 - strict firewall settings
 - manual inspection of the process list in the task manager
 - analyse any small peace of software with www.virustotal.com before installation
 - AdBlock and BetterPrivacy add ons for the browser; turn off 3rd party cookies
 - for paranoids turn off Javascript and Java and do not visit any suspicious sites

When all that done (it has to be done frequently and regulary at best every day) install any wallet software with password protection and strong key encryption (eg. AES256) like Bitcoin-QT. Turn on the password with a secure password (http://bit.ly/19SE2n9) - at least 13 characters out of a set of 120. Be careful with the password not to write it down anywhere accessable.

Then Bitcoin addresses may be created. After each new address the wallet.dat must be backed up somewhere eg. cloud, email, memory stick, CD, etc. - at least in two independent locations.

When that is done not too much should happen. If someone is really paranoid he can use https://www.bitaddress.org on a not connected and clean device to create a paper wallet as cold storage and transfer his Bitcoins there. I would not recommend brain wallets - some kind of backup has to be done which would be equal to paper wallets from a security perspective.

Finally I recommend using more than one wallet (not address) if the Bitcoin amount or value gets bigger - if accidently one wallet is lost or cracked at least the rest will be preserved.

Schade!

There is a new top entry:

327  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think BTC will hit $200? on: October 27, 2013, 05:05:14 PM
How many of you think bitcoin will see 100 before 1000?

What kind of question. It's time to close this thread.
328  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will October's bubble burst? on: October 26, 2013, 04:50:31 PM
There are groups of people trying to spook the market.   They sell in increments of btc and someone else buys it up, then it spooks the rest of the market into selling more.  Like a snowball running down a hill.  Then that person uses this cash to buy up the btc at a far lower price.   They are doing to this to make significant profit fast.

Not sure if the market is big enough for that. Finally it works only if the snowball starts rolling else they just loose money. And the Bitcoin seems to be quite stabil even after news like Silkroad shutdown.

330  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Schweizer Abgeordeter beantragt Bitcoinverbot on: October 24, 2013, 09:34:18 PM

Probably 150-200. It means I dont buying now. But who knows, maybe the peak will be at 500 and new equilibrium at 250.

Anyway, exciting times

Exciting times for sure. I think people have understood that Bitcoin is not only a high speculative short time inestment. Many do not want to change back to fiat. So the question is simply where the market volume for a massive crash should come from ? From what I see I assume that for some time value will raise slowly (OK its very fast) to unseen heihgts. Currently the statistics show that damnd (BID) is much higher than supply (ASK). Maybe surprisingly (or not) we will see the 1000 $ barrier falling sooner than expected.

But I must also admit that I do not feel very comfortable with this very fast growing because I am simply not used to - that should be true for most investors.
333  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think BTC will hit $200? on: October 23, 2013, 06:06:14 PM
time to close this thrad and raise a new one for $ 500
334  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: My first Bitcoin on: October 23, 2013, 06:03:46 PM
You sholdn't take it so serious. I believe everybody regret their decision about it. I for example exchanged all my btc to ltc at highest prices. Cheesy

I hope for you you sold it on the way down  Smiley
335  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New site:Bitcoin address top100 on: October 23, 2013, 10:12:51 AM
More interesting would be the distribution in histogram form - eg.:

Maybe it is possible to extend this to the top 1000 addresses and mark the time of last address use in color.
336  Economy / Trading Discussion / My first Bitcoin on: October 22, 2013, 06:07:44 PM
On Oct 17th 2012 I bought my first 0.05 BTC. I was not sure how things will develop. So I did buy small amounts and traded them again. Today I could bite my ass not having bought simply 1000 of them.  Huh
337  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: announcement: the international "when-bitcoin-reaches 1000,- $ party" on: October 22, 2013, 11:37:25 AM
I propose that single men pay double. Ladies are free. This encourages a more balanced gender distribution.

Edit: There is always room to put it nicer.

Then I propose to make the party in Bangkok instead of Berlin. I would organize the rest.
338  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: announcement: the international "when-bitcoin-reaches 1000,- $ party" on: October 21, 2013, 10:08:29 PM
Please count on me ...

I vote for Berlin because its the city with the most Bitcoin businesses in Germany for now

What about a questionaire for the vote ??
339  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [BPQ] Bitcoin Project of the Quarter 2013-Q3: Winner: TREZOR on: October 20, 2013, 08:43:53 PM
Trezor is exactly that- a 'safe'.

So then - what happens if your TREZOR has a technical problem eg. after dipping into water ? Or what happens if it is stolen - you loose the content but nobody else can use it. I won't call that safe.

On the other side it is questionable if bigger amounts of fiat money was ever safe in our hands.
340  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BTC stolen from my wallet on: October 20, 2013, 01:23:59 PM
"I had term with an user here to buy some LTC",
How he did this I suspect is in the above statement.

Now we can start speculating what he really did.

Second question is why it is necessary to show someone his Bitcoin amount with a small transaction - at that point I would have been mistrustful.
