4361  Other / Off-topic / Re: Specs on BFL Single power adapter? on: March 17, 2012, 03:41:40 AM
I did not.  I sent a followup email on Thursday was told I would be given a quote on Friday.  I wasn't.

That pesky thing called my real job preventing me from making another followup.  I gave them a pinout and technical drawings.  I will let everyone know when I know.

If I can't find an OEM to do it the cables could be done by hand but it will be slow tedious work.

A 3x barrel to 1 PCIe 6 pin adapter requires

1) cut 6 wires for x ft in length
2) strip both ends.
3) crimp male pin to one end of all 6 wires.
4) solder crimp pin
5) attach 6 pins to PCIE 6pin module
6) solder 3 of the wires to shell connector on barrel adapter
7) solder 3 of the wires to the center connector on barrel adapter
Cool attach barrel cover
9) cover assembly in shrink tubing and shrink
10) test

I have a nice automatic stripper, but the crimping would piss me off rapidly. If I had one of Molex's dedicated $350 crimpers, I might give it better consideration, but then there is soldering to worry about.. Nah no thanks Sad

My Farm has been down for too long. That's what i get for going on vacation. I should have it back up today.
That's what you get for not configuring backup pools. Roll Eyes
4365  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How/where to buy BTC quickly with credit/debit card on: March 16, 2012, 10:57:55 PM
just set up a dwolla account.
They don't work with credit cards.

I don't think I saw this answered. My account does not update, but another I have used does update on the same PC, same browser. It appears to be tied to a login.

Any ideas pirate?

Pirateat40, is there something up with the live updating worker view? My miners appear to be connected and mining, but the share counter isn't ticking up, nor is the little graph showing up. Also, 1.4% rejects.
Sorry I didn't come back a say it, but it started working for me later. However, it has stopped again...
Might be issues with socket.io or something.
4367  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin-Qt, bitcoind version 0.5.3 released on: March 16, 2012, 10:39:40 PM
I agree, the 99% bar is silly. Everytime I load the app it shows 99% for a minute and then disappears.. Makes me think something's broken.

Bring back the useful progress bar!
Next thing we hear will be a call for "democracy" and compromise by including both progress bars. Submit a pull request.

Read the post just above yours.

I will shoot myself if astana, dareq or some other scammer ends up winning this.

What will happen if that is the case?
We would then have their shipping address and other personal information, and it would be winrar.
4370  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Magazine on: March 16, 2012, 10:06:56 PM
why isn't the digital one even out, it's a SCAM!
For those of you who actually want to know the answer to this,

The printed copy is made out of the digital copy, so when we say "the magazine isn't done yet", we're talking about the digital copy.

sure, I just don't understand how it was "going to print" like 2 months ago and now it's not ready. I can see a printing hold up but since the digital version is not out it's obviously not a print problem, it's a content issue. It's beyond me how it can go from "hey we are ready to go to print next week" to "OMG there's so much wrong in this magazine it will take OVER TWO MONTHS TO FIX!"
You've never experienced the publishing biz.

I think you have me mistaken as a Gen M or something, which I'm not.  I'm upset at the attitude to destroy an individual when the people doing the destruction have also stolen things from their work places.  Perhaps not physical things, but still company resources.

Pot. Kettle. Black.
You missed the part where he actually did steal physical things.

Since everyone is in the sharing mood today.  Cheesy

Mmmm, nice, I've been running numbers in my head about bitforce singles all day...
They pretty much win from all angles unless you have so many that you need to worry about cooling, and unless your power is way too expensive.
4376  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: March 16, 2012, 05:24:34 PM

Figured I'd share pictures of one of the mining racks..

8 machines, all rack mounted, corsair Power supplies, 890FXA-GD70, Athlon x2's 2G ram, 27 ATI/AMD cards mix of 58xx,69xx, PXE/NFS diskless, runs mid 9 GH most days. cgminer set to auto-fan 20%-100%, target temp 80C.

4377  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Why do you mine on deepbit? on: March 16, 2012, 05:23:31 PM
Thanks for the info.  How much do you think hoppers affect the prop payouts on a large pool like deepbit?

Here is one individual's thoughts. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=66026.msg802847#msg802847
This link shows that it can be hopped, but they gain from it is probably not as much as with smaller pools. Read the numbers and make your own choice, I suppose.

Just a quick update showing +12vdc connected. I wish I had more time to work on this Sad it's going so slow right now.

Now with added win (+12v)

The guy I bought the orange wire from for 3.3v listed it as 14 gauge, but shipped 12 gauge. I might have to get some different crimp connectors or else steal some 16 gauge from another wire bundle.
4379  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Why do you mine on deepbit? on: March 16, 2012, 05:09:48 PM
Sorry, just recently started following the pool threads since I am @ ~20GH and are exploring my options.

What is wrong with prop?  I tired a few other ones (I won't single them out here) but I am still with deepbit because I don't have to worry about invalid blocks.  AFAIK, everything else you lose with invalid blocks, which I have seen as high as 4% on some pools.
To put it very simply, reduced income is the problem. The cause is pool hoppers, which mine a certain way to maximize their profit while reducing your payout. The solution is to mine on a pool with a hopper-proof payout algorithm, or to become a hopper yourself. (In order of difficulty).

You may wish to consider p2pool for your miners, so that you aren't tied to a pool which can crash. You can keep regular pools for backup.
4380  Other / Meta / Re: Banning spammers from the Marketplace section on: March 16, 2012, 04:52:13 PM
I've noticed an uptick in threads selling things like botted Twitter followers, YouTube accounts, etc.

I hereby move that people selling services which violate third party websites ToS should be removed for the following reasons:

  • They are spammers. Nobody likes spam.
  • They typically work around abuse controls via botnets, which is illegal.
  • They therefore bring the Bitcoin forums into disrepute.
  • There are other, dedicated forums where spammers can sell their services anyway.

I work on anti-abuse as part of my day job. I am not surprised or annoyed that Bitcoin is being used this way (the most common payment form for these services I see is LR/WebMoney/Paypal actually), but we should try and keep bad guys off of bitcointalk.org specifically.
While some such as dropboxexpander can provide a useful service, I agree that should not be allowed since it disregards the ToS of the site being exploited (Dropbox). I support this motion, and hope the marketplace can become a little cleaner.
