441  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: March 29, 2014, 10:07:45 PM
Also, don't forget that even if I am honest, there's still the chance that armed bandits (freelance or the kind with badges) turn up at my door and demand the bankroll.  So don't risk more than you can afford to lose, and I'll do my best to take good care of it.

Hence the emergency withdrawal address.
442  Economy / Securities / Re: [HAVELOCK] PETAMINE 700 TH/s or 8.68 GH/s per share on: March 29, 2014, 04:41:09 PM
Realistic point of view.

This project failed in rising, because of 3 factors:
-3 months delay
-one month earnings for 10 % rise of volume, market speeding up with 30 % a month
-bitcoin price is harming

projected share price end of april: 0,05
projected share price end of mai: 0,03 - 0,04

woooo king of the trolls is back

Sadly I agree with him... Look at the reinvestment. 5 weeks of reinvestment money to buy 18 Th/s when the next difficulty increase will eat this reinvestment in less than 10 days. It is difficult but we have to face reality, and with the low BTC price it is not so bright...

The only real hope is the custom PCB, but cryptx gave no news on that side.
443  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Play or Invest : 1% House Edge : Banter++ on: March 29, 2014, 02:25:32 PM
Hey

Could someone tell me why the cold storage hold more bitcoins (~32k BTC) than the invested amount ~31680 BTC ? I guess we should also add to the cold storage the number of BTC in the hot wallets

Not that I'm worried, but it's 100%+ reserve Wink
444  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bernankoin the Coin Not Evil according to Paul Krugman DL WINQT v1.3 NOW on: March 29, 2014, 01:47:36 AM
I traded BEK for DIME.  I just want to withdraw to my DIME wallet, but I can't even do that without a Chinese phone number because it requires phone verification to save the wallet address.  I'm glad it is not a large amount, because at this point it's not really worth the trouble.

China will probably ban BEK because of the name  Grin

Thanks for the update! And I suppose that you guys have made some little background work about the LK Group Ltd. before you sent that 108 BTC to them, right? At least their website raises more questions than answers about the company itself... Huh

Edit: there seems to be an another company too in China with exactly the same name but doing slightly bigger machines: http://www.lktechnology.com/?page=product

Looks legit, these are aka dragon miners

see this thread : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=523634.0

What did you expect for reinvestments ?

It's not very well researched.

it is number 1 in reddit/bitcoin

I saw. I made a few comments (though one of my coindesk comment's is missing idk why?) -

Overall I think this issue has brought out a lot about Bitcoin development and the environment around it, and I'd hate the for the serious discussion to be lost among those misinformed 'those whiny guys want to store their data' comments. I don't think that moves anything forward, and unfortunately I think the Coindesk article being poorly researched inclines people towards that kind of shallow point of view.
Then again maybe my expectations of redditors are far too high.

The article is not that bad, don't forget that we are all biaised toward XCP since most of us own some XCP and support the project. Besides, there is no such thing as bad press.

Glad to see it reached the top on reddit, I suspected it to be downvoted like hell because of the "get out of my blockchain effet"
448  Other / Archival / Re: Counterparty (XCP) Buy/Sell Thread with Google Doc on: March 24, 2014, 10:57:25 PM

About the OP_RETURN 40 vs 80. Pardon me if this proposal is noobish, but what about using 2 (or more) parallel transactions (broadcasted at the same time) each within the current 40 limit with different payloads. Then the CP parser would combine them afterwards.
451  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: March 22, 2014, 03:37:54 PM
As I see it, the best solution is to keep the OP_RETURN size at 40 bytes, for simplicity and compatibility, but to allow multiple OP_RETURN outputs per transaction. There's no reason that 40 bytes of misc. data per transaction is better for Bitcoin than 80, or 120 bytes.
[snip]

Actually what should be done that would - in theory - please both sides of the issue would be to do a patch that makes embedding data in OP_RETURN transactions as expensive as doing so by creating unspendable outputs. Basically what the OP_RETURN payload is just made unlimited (up to the max size of a transaction) but you bump the min fee by the same amount that would have been simply burned in the unspendable output. I'd further recommend that the cost be set slightly less than that amount, to always incentivize using prunable blockchain space rather than unprunable UTXO space. (a legit concern in the current design, although my TXO commitments scheme probably reduces the problem greatly)

I'll do up a pull-req for this.

Wouldn't this solution please everybody ?
452  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: March 21, 2014, 02:59:49 PM
From the perspective of counterparty and the overall bitcoin community,
  • The criticism is not against counterparty, but just One Flaw in the system
  • There was zero consultation on the design with the wider community before the "on" switch was flipped
  • This flaw --network-critical database used for raw data storage-- was well known before Counterparty began life. You could have avoided this problem with communication.
  • Existing designs are known to be less abusive to the network, and do not store data in that key database

It is perfectly possible to run counterparty without this flaw.

Thanks for the explanation.

I'm reading all these posts with a lot of interest but sometimes explaining things with simple terms is really useful for the vulgum pecus.

Plea to Core Bitcoin Developers regarding OP_RETURN: https://www.counterparty.co/plea-bitcoin-core-development-team/

what is the outcome for the protocol?

explain to me like I am five Smiley

I guess it will continue to rely on multisig outputs. Dunno if some small operations can be embedded in OP_RETURN though.
454  Economy / Securities / Re: [HAVELOCK] PETAMINE 700 TH/s or 8.68 GH/s per share on: March 19, 2014, 11:34:39 PM
Since we are behind schedule... why not use some of those reinvestment bitcoins and buy some more hash from a supplier going bankrupt? not sure if the contract rate for the mining equipment is lower (most likely is) but more hash now would help reach ROI. Just throwing it out there.
http://www.coindesk.com/bankrupt-bitcoin-mining-company-alydian-sell-218ths-mining-power/

5000$/TH ? Seems overpriced to me. Plus they're not new models, meaning that the power consumption is probably high.

With the current reinvestment fund you'll buy 5TH at most... not sure if it's a good idea.
455  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 19, 2014, 03:18:31 PM
@CfB: Can we replay transactions from NXT in a clone and vice versa?

Yes, if a clone doesn't change transaction format. So anyone who uses the same account in both cryptos can lose NXTs.

I'll take Above

I take below if you agree to bet in BTC (50 mBTC)
457  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptsy Fee Shares on: March 18, 2014, 07:09:19 PM
I like the "security" of Cryptsy. Cryptsy is one major exchange and according to cryptocoincharts.info it is the 6th biggest exchange. That seems somewhat "secure" to me. I guess I'll buy more stocks but I wonder how low it will get. Seems that there is no limit down atm.

With 2 BTC distributed each week among the 7931 public shareholders, it give a annual yield of 0.01311 / 10% with a share price of 0.1311 BTC

IDK if I should jump in again, I like this stock but the ROI is so low, and no real growth on the horizon. Crypsty is quite secure, has always delivered, but I don't like the fees on cryptostocks and all the junk they list... Crypsty on Havelock would be a no brainer for me.
458  Economy / Securities / Re: [HAVELOCK] PETAMINE 700 TH/s or 8.68 GH/s per share on: March 18, 2014, 07:03:53 PM
Here we go, new hardware today ! 120+ Th/s

Enjoy 2 or 3 troll-free days  Grin

IMO, the turning point for solo mining would be 25 BTC/day and hope for a regular block a day.

Until now, CryptX has delivered. Not always in time but it seems that's mission impossible with all the manufacturer delays.

An update about the delivered hardware and the upcomming hardware could be nice from them but we're not in a hurry (or I should say, in mining, we are always in a hurry...)
459  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 18, 2014, 08:32:49 AM
Is NXT as good as dead?

No outsiders care about it all anymore, development has halted, frustrated discussions without any results, prices are going to the bottom and everyone except the initial IPO holders have lost a large amount of their invested money --- is it as good as dead?

Is the development really halted ??

That's terrible news !
460  Economy / Services / Re: Herp Rating Agency on: March 17, 2014, 08:39:46 PM
Good idea !

What's you opinion on :

- Cryptsy fee shares (Cryptostocks)

- CryptX petamine (Havelock)

- Counterparty XCP

- NXT

Thanks! Interesting list.

Cryptsy is at the moment the place to be for alts and it's making nice money right now. It's located in US, however and Vern is looking to start fiat USD trading, which would put Cryptsy in the crosshair of regulators. As many learned so far the hard way, US is not mostly Bitcoin friendly place to do business. I'd be cautious because of this.

CryptX - I haven't looked into it. Sounds like a mining operation. I have studied, however, many mining operations such as ASICminer and others and best and most reliable I could find, is BuyAHash by far. Has most honest and proven management, very reliable. It survived few exchange going under. You not only get profits from their ongoing mining operations focused on most profitable alt coins of the day but you also get a cut from their hardware sales which are booming like crazy. They are highly transparent and recently got incorporated in Hong Kong, even though they are US based. This stock is one juicy morsel, growing like mad at the moment, unlike ASIC miner where owner is anonymous, that offers little to no transparency.

Counterparty XCP - Was just having a debate on Counterparty in another thread. Counterparty is basically a Mastercoin clone that came pretty late to the party that doesn't have the money or the team and support Mastercoin has. They've pretty much replicated Mastercoin, the code, using the bitcoin blockchain, even the creation model to some extent. I'd pick the best of breed, which is Mastercoin.

NXT - this one I find interesting. It's also a 2.0 crypto (via Colored Coins) that uses 100% proof of work, which is environmentally friendly. This could be an advantage. They have some of the best promotion team and are very good at hype, some of the best actually. Their "swarm" teams are pretty effective at doing cheap marketing and spreading the word. I haven't touched NXT yet because I feel it has very much glazing on the surface without much substance underneath all the nice glamor they've managed to project. Their decentralized exchange is yet to be released, not even sure they have any ETA on that http://www.nxtcrypto.org/nxt-coin/nxt-decentralized-exchange while Mastercoin already has theirs out and ready to use.

Hey, thanks for your analysis !

I'm not invested in all of these projects/ coins but I'm following closely. Here's my 2˘

I'm a bit disappointed by Cryptsy lately, and I think DOGE reddit community rant against the site will harm its revenue. It was 5/10% yearly but now the dividends have decreased and the competition is tough in the alt (shit/scam) coins exchanges. What you say about US is not mostly Bitcoin friendly place is true. SELL

About PETA mine, since they have a brick and mortar business and given that they are not anonymous (and located close to my home), I tought it would be intresteing to analyze it. I tend to avoid "mining" stock when they've not proven they're not ponzi/ scams. But in the end, "scam" risk aside, we are all intrested in profitablity and it's always difficult to judge. HOLD

I'm invested in both XCP/MSC, and since you recommended MSC I wanted to know you opinion on XCP. Seems to me that you have a small cognitive bias (no offense) about MSC. I've not compared the code so I can't tell if it's a clone or the same idea written from scratch. I think both approaches are interesting (fundraising & proof of burn) and the development seems to be more centralized in XCP (and less bounty driven) although it's not a will but just the fact that the original devs are really active since the inception of the project. IMHO, both can coexist and be successful in a "blue ocean" 2.0 world (but it might be me that has a cognitive bias this time Wink) STRONG BUY on both

I'm not convinced of the future of NXT, maybe because the "unfair" starting distribution and the alternate blockchain which has a lot to do before being taken seriously by the "real" world. But i'm following too. HOLD
