This has been the most elaborate attack on a cryptocurrency I've ever seen -- it required incredible coordination and took great lengths to hide itself from being see from casual users of the network until it was too late. Of course, we were watching and could tell something was up, so we caught the fork immediately and were able to protect our users by notifying them and the exchanges of it. Still, I'm frankly amazed at the lengths the attackers went to to conduct this attack, and the complexity of it.
I'm very impressed by how you guys dealt with this, from notifying the exchanges to solving the attack. Will be making a donation today. Thanks for your great work.

What does all of these users have in common?

SCAM? Too many big headed hero members telling you noobs to buy a shitcoin. Karma is a bitch. Smiley
Obvious shitcoin, James.

[XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency ?? wtf

Or maybe the price will tank and you will end up a bagholder... hero members endorsing this shit should be slapped.

Boolberry is doomed also. CryptoNote coins are now officially shit because of Monero and insiders.

All cryptonote coins offline on Bittrex. RIP CryptoNote.

We should make a blacklist of all Senior and Hero Members who were promoting this shitcoin. Monero and Boolberry threads should be moved to the Trashcan.

Seems that Monero is totally broken.

And this is why adoption for cryptonote is at least 5 years behind bitcoin API.....all you hero shills love talking it up....

its untested - no business in their right mind would accept this technology when flaws like this exist.

Back to the drawing board...maybe you can look at the bloat / scalability issue while you are at it!

Monero devs took CryptoNote protocol and tried to implement some changes without any understanding of what they're doing. Probably XMR’s devs questionable modifications lead to this kind of attack. That is what you get when you steal the code you are not capable of maintaining.

Remember kids: you should not modify a code if you’re not completely sure what it will cause. Currently people are paying with their funds because of the incompetent Monero devs. Reminds me too much of a real world situation, when the bank closes people loose funds they've invested. I hoped we wouldn't see it in the crypto world.

"First time I'm compiling #monero, and its consensus is broken :/ "

HAHAHAHAH RIP MONERO

Why do you keep throwing good money after bad? Monero developers have confirmed their incompetence numerous times, and you still continue investing in XMR. I understand that you’ve put a lot of effort and money in it but you should not be tied up to the sunk costs.

It seems that you've been lured into thinking that Monero is going to the moon when actually it is doomed. I think you should rethink your commitment before you've lost even more.

444  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 03, 2014, 10:24:06 PM
Dmitry has stated that btc-e is very much against premine, when asked why no new coins are being added he stated: "all new coins with premine Sad"

Somebody who speaks russian may be able to convince him about monero. I speculate that btc-e may also prefer to own a seisable stash of whatever currency they add. That may be more of a difficult feat. I have some vague memory of something like FTC devs paying a huge chunk of coins to get it added, but in another case btc-e ended up doing a proof of burn after accusations of recieving coins (maybe that was TRC or nova?). Don't quote me on that, maybe somebody else remembers better.

Monero being added to btc-e would definitivly take the price and volume to a new level, likely beyond LTC.

A lot of progress has been made here. I tried it today both chat, sound and video works great! Will have to do more research into it. Anybody else using it?

Is it normal with these kinds of bugs/glitches on cryptsy?

Clearly the price never reached that point, my buy order was not excecuted.
yes, it is cratpsy. avoid if u can
Well I need to go where there is volume. Any better suggestions?
Sry, im not trading ANC currently so i dont know which exchange has "good" volumes. Check our wiki for a list of exchanges.

No other exchange has high volume, only BTC38... and that's kinda Chinese O_o you can check on "coinmarketcap.com" by clicking on the price and see some volume informations.
1    Cryptsy   ANC/BTC    $ 2,732   $ 0.395527    89.96 %
2    BTC38   ANC/CNY    $ 230   $ 0.341388    7.58 %

With 90% volume I think I will have to stick with cryptsy. Anyways I never had much issues there, as long as they pay out eventually i don't mind a few delays and minor bugs.

I have been out of the loop recently, is there a new estimated time frame for ZC implementation?  I noticed the nice fat buy walls going up on cryptsy and was hoping to hear some good news on here Cheesy
In two weeks™ an estimate of when zerocoin impl. will be finished will be given.

It's not about the money, it's about sending a message.

dont need Monero for that... Bitcoin does the same

~CfA~
I didn't get into crypto currencies to become rich, that was just a side-effect. I got into crypto because I want to see the current financial and regulatory system burn. I believe humans should have the freedom to conduct business as they please without interference from the government.

Bitcoin is a store of value. It's non-confiscatable and allows transfer funds. Perfect, except it does not include perfect anonymity.

Without anonymity, the government still has power to track transaction and prosecute people based on such evidence. Monero solves this, and thus we need it.

452  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: XMR futures/options OTC thread on: August 28, 2014, 05:10:12 PM
I'm still a little confused by what you mean exactly.
You're offering the right to buy 5000 XMR for 0.01 BTC till the 30th of September? How long does this last?
What happens when the price of Monero goes up, and what happens when it goes down?
It lasts until 30th of September. It doesn't matter if price goes up or down. Skinnkavaj has purchased the right (not obligation) to buy 5000 XMR at 0.01 whenever he wants until September 30th. rpietila HAS to sell him 5000 XMR @ 0.01 if he chooses to use his right. Once 30th of September has gone by, Skinnkavaj may no longer exercise this right, and thus the money (4.2 BTC) will essentially have been wasted.

However if the price goes to say 0.02 on 20th of September, Skinnkavaj may buy 5000 XMR for 0.01 = 50 BTC and transfer it to the exchange and sell it pretty much instantly for 100 BTC, that's 50 BTC pure profit minus his expenses (4.2 BTC)

edit: if you asked how long the prices lasts, then smooth's reply is correct
453  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Unveiling the truth over the major Monero scam on: August 28, 2014, 02:18:44 AM
nutildah, it's time you move on now. we get it, you're pissed off for some reason. but much more smarter and wealthier people than you are directly involved and supports monero. It's not often so many early adopters of bitcoin comes together and invest in an alt coin, people who never considered it previously. That itself should tell you something. You have not heard of bytecoin, that makes it very difficult to take you seriously. You may want to take a closer look into the underlying technology and ignore "pumpers" (which I have not really noticed myself, but to be fair I don't frequently visit the altcoin forum). The fact that a coin has many "pumpers" does not make it a scam in itself. Because the fact is, monero is based on a new technology that enables anonymous transactions, to the point where few can compete at this stage. Being the first fair launch is worth something.

I'm not sure what your agenda is, but you are putting yourself in a pretty bad light with these outbursts, especially the lies. I recommend that you start educating yourself here: https://cryptonote.org/inside/
454  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Unveiling the truth over the major Monero scam on: August 28, 2014, 01:18:59 AM
I think Monero truly is the best coordinated scam I've ever seen. You guys got it all:

- rabid, flaming pack of easily-programmable fanboys
- an entire exchange pumps your coin (Poloniex)
- dozens of threads updated daily
- nonstop generation of pseudo-intellectual conclusions based on the misapplication of statistics

Now you just have to give people a reason to use your coin, and you'll be all set!

Because your Bytecoin bit the dust.

I don't even know wtf Bytecoin is. All I know is I've never seen a more desperate, cheese-filled pack of used car salesmen than the Monero Pump Crew.
455  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] Community effort to get Monero airtime on Lets talk Bitcoin. on: August 27, 2014, 10:27:19 PM
I think that this is a good idea, but that XMR would be better served by doing a full interview with a key dev or community member. Monero is worth more than just a <1 minute mention by Adam. It's exactly the kind of thing that Stephanie and/or Andreas would be happy to talk about but it needs a subject matter expert to be the other part of the interview.

Adam's pretty accessible - who's willing to step up and be on an interview about an anonymous crypto? Smiley
+1 maybe fluffypony is up for it
456  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: August 27, 2014, 12:08:30 PM
Last post from the dev was 2 weeks ago. Inactive much??

Why does this happen when coins like Bluecoin or Darkcoin can be consistent in their approach for community talk?
not let days or weeks go by without talking to people.  That's just absurd.  Maybe I think outside of the box too much.
How much have you donated of your time or money to monero development? Keep in mind that the developers of monero took over an already launched coin, and while they may have been early adopters there was never a long period of time to accumulate on cheap prices. It's not fair to compare with coins where the developer is sitting on fortunes of pre-mined coins such as with dark.

That's why it happens, most people cannot afford to work for free. (and as stated by fluffypony you are also wrong in that they have been inactive for 2 weeks)
457  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Unveiling the truth over the major Monero hoax on: August 26, 2014, 10:09:03 PM
BTW selling an account with reputation is equal to scamming in my eyes. I'm not a scammer thus I will never sell my account.
458  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Unveiling the truth over the major Monero hoax on: August 26, 2014, 10:05:49 PM
Obviously a purchased Hero account right there.
So much scam.

Yeah it seemed suspicious to me as well due to the way that he posted. I just didn't want to point it out before checking his whole account, for which I do not have time (right now).
You might as well remove the trust that you put on him in this case.
Someone is trying to manipulate everything, luckily it's not working (for now).

Monero is very suspicious coin. I hear developer hardcode in 5 million xmr in their own wallets. Is it true???  Huh
