4561  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KNCMiner and their 'magic' SHA256 alogorithm on: June 24, 2013, 03:06:00 PM
Could it be that they are calculating with worse case scenario that about 23% of the cores in the chip will be dead, so the expected lowest hash rate in total is 350GH, with potentially 30% higher performance for all perfect chips ?
(in other words, 23% dead, 77% equals 350GH, and an unlikely 100% perfect chips will be 30% better, equals 455GH.)

I think it's hard to be that exact!
4562  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] labcoin ASIC project - v.1 @180nm - v.2 @65nm - European / Chinese Team on: June 24, 2013, 09:57:12 AM
As I said earlier, we are not sure if we will sell devices

I missed this. If you are here to create hype for your products, why discuss this project here at all if you are not offering it for sale ?

Am I missing something ?

I can certainly appreciate that you are trying to create a new SHA256 ASIC, but not sure of your intentions with posting this thread now.

Actually i like the fact that they announced it here. If they didn't we would wonder why the sudden increase in hashrate from "Unknown". I think knowing all or most ASIC players is a good thing. Also the fact that they won't accept money for pre-orders is another good thing.

@labcoin When do you expect your first chips in hand and when can we expect some kind of prototype? How fast will you go for the v2@65nm and will you use University channels there too? If not then you need some kind of fab relations to put you in the line.
4563  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: June 23, 2013, 11:46:12 AM

Yes these would be absolutely perfect and i intend to use these for the next generation.
The BFL chips would require a lot more development because of the flip-chip package.

Can't wait for the bitfury boards! :X
4564  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 22, 2013, 07:04:52 PM
Where did the info on the units' sizes come from -- do we have a solid idea on what they will be?

Looks like on KnC's site, they list Jupiter at 160 x 160 x 200 (I'm assuming cm), and 4kg weight. For those of us who are metrically-challenged Wink that converts to roughly 5ft x 5ft x 6.5ft, and just under 9 lbs.

And that's just one unit...! I'm hoping that they've managed to scale it down a bit, but I've opted at this point to use their hosting plan (whenever they have more info).

Usually sizes are in mm, not cm!
4565  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Eyes to the horizon: A bitcoin ASIC project will be announced in June on: June 22, 2013, 12:46:28 AM

Did they specified if they will have ready-to-ship products or it's just another pre-order?
4566  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Batch#4 Supporting Evidence on: June 20, 2013, 02:07:04 PM
Only thing that really makes sense is for bitsyncom to license the Bitfury multi core chip and reference design at this point. 0.39W/gh is hard to beat (if tests are conclusive) and since they provenly can build and deliver PCB etc. and have the (still somewhat) reputable Avalon name, they could make a killing selling basically Bitfury clones.

But does that makes it less decentralized and less 51% attack-proof?

4568  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] First 500Gh/s BFL unit up and running! on: June 20, 2013, 12:09:44 PM
If you only plug in one of the power supplies, does the device still function but only running up half the boards at 250GH/s?

Just thinking about if a breaker trips.

Since this rig is running with a USB hub inside, yes, that is exactly what will happen.

When they start using xlink, it will depend on if the master board is taken out or not so if one PSU goes down, you could lose the whole rig.
I thought they had already been told about this problem at one of the trade shows?

Why have they not fixed this to date?

Funny how you got 2 replies from Luke-Jr paid shill and from kano...BFL's PR is so good!
4569  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: June 19, 2013, 11:28:46 PM

It means, that at the current design, his design works.

What still needs to be tested is the ability to talk to each other and therefore put up to 16 boards on ONE USB controller. The chip hashes nicely.

And maybe ONE PSU?Cheesy
4570  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Bitfury is looking for alpha-testers of first chips! FREE MONEY HERE! on: June 19, 2013, 07:07:22 PM
Can someone translate what bitfury said in his long post? As i understood there are more measurements to be done, but the chip is working, but it isn't good enough for a big rig? I can't wait for USB miners with this chip.

Also i'm impressed too for paying for that bet! Now just give me the change to be your customer bitfury! Cheesy
4571  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Bitfury is looking for alpha-testers of first chips! FREE MONEY HERE! on: June 17, 2013, 10:36:47 PM
...
When bitfury will release his chips you will be able to build 5GH/s USB powered stick.
...

Someone hurry with the PCB schemes and let's start getting some nice USB miners.
4572  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Goliath Miner-Cairnsmore3/4/5/6 Boards - Limited run for August Delivery on: June 16, 2013, 11:50:34 AM
Ultimately if you don't like our price then go elsewhere or design your own. There is no obligation to buy.

Will do  Smiley  Undecided

+1

We don't say "OMG OP" for any other reason than to help you. We are potential customers saying, if you dont lower price, we wont purchase. You can listen or not, but companies pay big bucks to here why people aren't buying.

I could put this in context that as far as I understand batch3 from Avalon are charging 75 BTC for 66GH/s in their batch3 which I believe is running late and no ETA. On todays conversion that is about £73/GH/s so is that so very different from our £80/GH/s? If it doesn't sell we will simply put it into our own mining operation.

We are also not going to try and compete with manufacturers that have little or no standing cost base and might not be around in 3 months when you have a problem.

I might also speculate that BFL has problems because they charged too little for their miners and their 2.5X recent-ish price rise is an indicator of that. Avalon too have also raised prices through batch 1 to 3 presumably for similar reasons. We have been in business now for 24 years and I am look forward to celebrating 25 still in reasonable financial health and that means charging realistic prices as far as we are concerned.

Good for you!

But I'm still scratching my head at your targeting the retail market with such a product.

Maybe there are some potential clients from his customer base that aren't so aware of the other bitcoin mining hardware.  Why don't you just let him be? Let him sell 1Ghash for 1 mil $. If he finds customers then his win, if not then his loss. Not yours.
4573  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KNCMiner and their 'magic' SHA256 alogorithm on: June 15, 2013, 08:34:59 PM
I am really not interested in Open Days, just plain old transparency. It works.

Got one on order, have you?

Date Registered:    June 02, 2013, 10:19:42 PM  OK!
4574  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Can KNCMiner really deliver 28 nanometers? on: June 15, 2013, 08:31:51 PM
The fact that you are easy on attacking my business (failed thread derail) because I attacked you (not KNC) reveals your business here, dumbass.

This is only Inaba's fault lol!
4575  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: June 14, 2013, 08:54:04 PM
I guess you wont read anything from burnin today... *g* Looks like he has some things to play with... (Sorry for spoilering burnin... Wink (though one could guess anyway that they reach today))

He hasn't received the PCBs yet...
4576  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: June 14, 2013, 03:53:47 PM
burnin before opening orders please post up if you can the last final prices in order to get the money ready Smiley Also post some power supplies or have some ready to order. I wouldn't want to have boards in hand but no power supply. Thank you.

Marcus: The die size will be...very large.

That sounds like trouble waiting to happen.

Why is that?

Very nice very nice! Cheesy

Edit: I'm 99% sure that the singular is the way to go! "All your Bitcoin are belong to us"
4579  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BitcoinOrama Report on the KnCminer/OrSoC Open-day Mon 10/06/13 (Stockholm) on: June 13, 2013, 10:01:45 PM
Ok, so Q&A (first page of) is typed up below. I dug a bit further than the question specified in a few places.

The pic below has an amusing story. We all know English is not the first language for anyone, but Sam, and he is probably the worst speller of the lot.

So, their tag line:

'Bitcoins make the world go around', is as they realised afterwards; a spelling mistake, and should read 'Bitcoin makes the world go round'.

Alas, too late and they had ordered Mar's boards by that point, all with the spelling error, which I had Sam so proudly pose with. We were all given a pcb board, complete with spelling mistake, as a memento. Who knows? Perhaps one day it itself may have value, if not only historical...

Heh. This could replace the "All your base are belong to us" line Smiley
