4581  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: c-lightning on Raspberry Pi on: January 22, 2021, 07:12:04 PM
The only thing I don't like about c-lightning is that it lacks decent clients. The only one I can recall is Spark while LND can be connected to Zap or even BlueWallet (if configured properly), and some other clients.

there's also Lightning-qt

and I think there was a Lightning client on Android called "Zeus" that could operate the c-lightning API as a client, but I didn't try it to see how well it worked.

Watch your quoting I did not say that :-)

Just did a c-lightning install, on a machine that had LND running.
Yeah, don't do that. No clue what I was thinking. But obviously didn't work till I changed the port.
Shutdown LND to play with c-lightning

Once you have a wallet synced, it's all kind of the same. But LND does seem to have more support.

Yeah, I'm from the Detroit area and am still dumbfounded at how many folks here feel that Kwame Kilpatrick did no wrong and was unfairly punished. The guy is/was as corrupt of a politician as they come...  Roll Eyes

I'm from Long Island New York. You people are total amateurs when it comes to corrupt public officials.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Mangano

https://www.newsday.com/long-island/crime/burke-beating-sentence-1.29630759

https://projects.newsday.com/long-island/politics-corruption-long-island-2/

But, looking at what is out there on Kilpatrick he was just as corrupt as others out here.

OT a bit but, I would like to see the laws changed a but for public officials convicted of corruption to be changed that all restitution must be paid back to the municipality at 20x damages.
Want to give a contract to your friend at 2x the going rate. Fine. Get caught, no jail you just owe 40x what it was.
Make them think about it. If they can skim a few million and know all they are going to get is a few years in jail and possibly have to pay some of it back, they might do it. Pay 20x back...probably going to force them to think about it a bit more.

4583  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: January 21, 2021, 04:20:24 PM
Does anyone have a channel open to OpenNode.com and if so, do you see a lot of of outbound routing to them?
Just took a look at my Forwarding history and eliminating the oddball dozens of 2sat transactions almost all the other ones I have are inbound from elsewhere to OpenNode.
Never saw that before and wonder if something changed. Probably not important (how many people really sit there and check their forwarding on a regular basis) but since it's different I figured I would ask.

I have looked too but not found any. But, it was a while ago that I looked.
mynode is LND too
Any reason why you want c-lightning in a device instead of LND?
I wanted to learn c-lightning a bit more and figured a pre-done environment would be better to start to play with.

Wound up just doing it myself anyway to learn.

4585  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] *PAUSED*CORROSIVE CREATIONS CRYPTODECK (HEARTS) *PAUSED* PLEASE READ on: January 20, 2021, 12:54:54 PM
Although I did not bid, I would think at this point it would be better to just start clean.

With out being harsh to anyone who did bid, BTC is at a totally different price point then it was the the end of November.
As you said the 2nd wave of lockdowns have come to places and have changed how much people can and should spend.
New President in US, Brexit in UK, etc.

Just my view. Normally would not even post about it but I am very interested to see what everyone else thinks.
I have over the years had to cancel auctions and start again, both here and elsewhere. If I relisted I just always started from scratch, never actually stopped to think if the bidders cared.

The problem is more curious though about that 1 (one!!!) YouDeal Token. I could not find anything on Google about an airdrop or anything similar. I really have no idea who sent it to me, nor why. Any ideas here Huh

Besides, until I searched my address on ETHplorer I never knew about those tokens before. Things look very weird. I'm not asking these for being interested in the value of those tokens as they worth nothing (the 888,888 KickTokens worth about 10$ and the 1 YouDeal Token (which isn't even listed on CoinMarketCap) doesn't even have a value correlated with USD lol). But I'd like to know how they could appear in my wallet.

They took a snapshot (copy) of the ETH blockchain and then wrote a quick program to find all the addresses that met their criteria and sent them the tokens.
Take a look at this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2247755.msg56041675#msg56041675
It's for BTC, but the same can be done with ETH, or any coin except for the cryptonight and similar based ones that don't work the standard way.
I have had a ton of crap tokens dropped to my ETH addresses (and waves addresses) over the last few years, 99%+ are worthless.

4587  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US Capitol Stormers Are Now On No-Fly List And Crying At Airports on: January 20, 2021, 01:20:20 AM
So another one made the local news today.
Someone got fired because....wait for it....he did not show up to work because he was in jail...

He is now suing the people he worked for because they fired him for political reasons.
The fact that did not show up to work for a week (week+?)  trying to make bail has nothing to do with it.
And, as far as I know political views are not a protected class anyway in most places.

4588  Economy / Computer hardware / [Sold] Raspberry Pi 3 Model B $25 Shipped US on: January 19, 2021, 03:41:51 PM
Title says it all.
Was cleaning up and found it sitting in box.
Plugged in a power / HDMI / etc and a bootable SD card and got to the desktop and could surf the web, not tested past that.
$25 gets it shipped to you anywhere in the USA.

Preev Rate to: Paid With Other Crypto

Any questions, ask.

4589  Economy / Exchanges / Re: If you're using Bitstamp, now might be a good time to ditch it. on: January 19, 2021, 01:35:21 PM
It's not the exchanges doing it. It's the Governments of these countries.
Yes the rules suck. Yes places like Bitstamp / Coinbase / etc. should be fighting against it. But, for them not to do it would be insane.

In the US could you picture what would happen if Chase decided to let people open accounts with no ID?

Sadly it has come to this, looks like the US will be the next on the list of these insane requirements.

4590  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinpayments values itself at $200m but should Bitcoin payments be free? on: January 18, 2021, 08:09:17 PM
Of course not, but where did "$200,000 a year" in sales come from? According to their pitch, they've done $1 billion in sales over 7.5 years. That works out to around $130 million in sales and $660,000 in revenue per year.

I pulled it out of the air to show that even if you were doing that much in crypto it's still probably better to have someone else do it then do it yourself.
If you were just doing BTC then possibly at that point running a BTCPay server would be worth it. But would you really want to?

I have a BTCPay server, I run it for other people.
It's a royal pain in the ass. And if I was not running a few lightning nodes anyway would probably trash the entire thing and go to coinpayments

With the statement that yes, I do have altcoins, and do use that part of the forum, every time I see one of these posts I have the same thought.
"Why don't we just nuke the entire altcoin section"
How much time would be saved by the mods removing junk?
How many scams would not be posted here?
How much crap would just be gone from the forum?

No, it would not just go away, it would move elsewhere.
And you know what, I'm fine with that.

4592  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Open source hardware wallets on: January 18, 2021, 12:34:23 PM
I have posted it elsewhere around here but this point still need to be made.
Open Source only works to a point. You are still at the mercy of the manufacturer of hardware components / secure element.
Even if it IS 100% open source and documented that does not mean what you are getting is what they told you. You can only test what you can see.

If Input "A" is supposed to give you Output "B" and it does, and all other functions act the way they are supposed to you can only ASSUME that all is good.
Not that they didn't shove in 1k of nvram to record the last 1000 bits of data going in and out, and that it can only be accessed in a special way.
Yeah, you can X-Ray the chip and do some other things but....

Also, you can only hope that there are no other bugs that everyone missed, yeah 1000s and 1000s of people looking at the code will probably find it.
But only IF those 1000s and 1000s of people know what they are looking at and catch the problem.
Open source things get missed all the time. Heartbleed comes to mind...

4593  Other / Politics & Society / Re: NYC renters owe landlords owe more then $1 Billion in unpaid rent on: January 18, 2021, 03:44:33 AM
since 2008 the amount of normal people suddenly jumping into the 'buy to rent/lease' schemes skyrocketed.
in many cases landlords are normal people that mortgaged like 4 locations where they charged the renter $1k and $600 paid the mortgage. meaning on 4 locations the landlord would get $1200(4x400) for his own lifestyle spending

though he can have a mortgage break if a tenant is not paying the rent. the landlord is not getting their $1200 income(profit).

Tap...tap....tap....I keep tapping on the sympathy gauge but it's stuck on zero for people who are stuck in that situation.

Look an article about more idiots:

Don't start a business without an exit plan, don't invest more then can can afford to loose, etc.
Want to invest in property fine, be prepared to be wiped out at any given time.

4594  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinpayments values itself at $200m but should Bitcoin payments be free? on: January 18, 2021, 02:55:59 AM
As has been stated, if you want to do it yourself, then it can be free.

Except for the hardware needed to run the server, the time to keep it up and secure, apply patches and updates, do backups (and store and test them).
If you want to take many coins line coinpayments, you have to then make sure all the daemons are running and synced and the APIs you are using to talk to all the exchanges are up and running and accurate.

Lets run some numbers.....
You are running a business that does $200,000 a year in crypto sales.
coinpayments charges 0.5%
So that is $1000 a year.
Do you think you can do all the above for $1000 a year?....Do you WANT to do all the above for $1000 a year?

So I have been looking though the piles of documents posted on the DoJ site against the (innocent until proven guilty) rioters / terrorists / whatever you want to call them.
Found this one:
https://www.justice.gov/opa/page/file/1355921/download
If you want to skip to the good part...just go to page 7 paragraph 17 and keep reading....the good part is page 8...with a map....

I think I pulled a muscle laughing at this idiot.
That takes a special kind of stupid.

4596  Economy / Collectibles / Have you sold something because you saw what someone else sold it for? on: January 17, 2021, 02:13:34 PM
Without naming the item or seller, I was just going thought the WTS / Sold items here and had to stop and think:
WOW, that sold for THAT MUCH?  Do I go to the vault this week and pull that out to sell it?

The answer is no, I am not going to have the time. And I have too much other stuff to sell 1st.
But it got me thinking, how much stuff sells here because someone else sold one 1st.

No, poll just looking to see if other people at times, like me, don't realize how much some stuff they have collected is worth.

Think about it, we are trading collectable things, that have skyrocketed in value, based on something else that has only been around a little over a decade.
George Lucas would be proud.

Here is my favorite Statement of Facts so far.

I love page 7 paragraph #19 "Hello nice FBI lady"

Kind of feel sorry for her, you know Special Agent Land is no longer called Agent Land, or even by her 1st name around the office.
Thanks to all her coworkers she now has a coffee mug, t-shirt, name plate on her desk, and a bunch of business cards that all have "Nice FBI Lady" on them.
Because, no matter where you work, what you do, who you work for, coworkers are going to do that.

4599  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Blockstream Jade - fully open source hardware wallet on: January 15, 2021, 10:08:30 PM
The good part is that the blind oracle will be open-source in the future, so users will be able to run their own oracles. I am not sure how it will work though.
Lets see if / when they actually release it. And what the requirements are.
Yes, you can run your own oracle just compile this code and there is no support.
Yes, you can run your own oracle, you just need to have a fully synced node and some other stuff.
etc.
Yeah, I might be a bit (a lot) dramatic about it, but the entire point of a hardware wallet is as you said, NOT to rely on other people / software.

4600  Other / Politics & Society / Re: NYC renters owe landlords owe more then $1 Billion in unpaid rent on: January 15, 2021, 12:30:10 PM
In addition to the numbers franky1 posted, how many people are not paying because they don't have to?
No evictions, no penalties, etc. So you stick the money into a savings account and then sit on it making some interest till you have to pay.
And if something else bad does happen, then you have the money in the bank. Because you know the landlord isn't going to give it back.
-Dave
That is easy to say on paper but when it comes to reality, I think it will be different, think about the landlord's perspective, they need the rent paid because some of them are only relying on the rent as a source of income. The real problem is that the real estate bubble in USA is so big but any way to pop it does not seem to work because greedy real estate capitalist are benefiting from this crisis that might replicate the same crisis back in 2008, if the prices of land is lowered then the prices of rent will also lower but that seems impossible so we have to look for another solution and the best one is to increase the minimum wage with lower hours for labor but that is also impossible because lobbying is a business in USA. One thing is for sure though, the poor people in USA will be the one that will get hit the most and the middle class will replace those poor people sooner than ever.

Depends, remember the landlords get to kick most of their bills down the road too.
Mortgage, gas, electric and other collections have all been suspended in NYC. So if you are a one person one or 2 property place then you might be hurting a little if you did no financial planning and did not have a savings long enough to ride this out. I'm not talking some random person here. I'm talking someone who had enough cash and or credit to buy a place or 2 in NYC. So not poor, not by a long shot. This is NYC, it's kill or be killed in business. If you can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen, whatever pick you metaphor. If you bought a place and did not plan on not being able to collect rent for a while while having to carry a property or 2 you are not a shark you are chum.

If it's a company that owns buildings and such. They can also get PPP and other loans to keep going and they also are not required to pay they mortgages, etc.

There are a lot of things going wrong financially in a lot of places at them moment, not going to deny that at all. But a Billion or 2 in unpaid rent in NYC is not one of them.
