1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MemoryDealers aka Roger Ver Arrested! on: May 01, 2024, 11:19:31 AM
As the saying goes there are 2 things you can't avoid Death & Taxes.

Creative accounting only goes so far, and if the amounts reported are accurate then yes you are going to get yourself arrested. Probably more so since he was changing his citizenship to a country known for loose tax laws and no extradition for a lot of things. Had he been staying in the US they probably would have just started freezing accounts. But this was looking like he was going to run.

If I sell anything for a profit the government gets it's cut. If it's $200 and I don't pay my $50 on it they will probably never notice. $200 million, yeah they are going to catch that.

Saw this pop up, I have a moonlander 2 with no fan if you want it make an offer.
You should run it with a fan but when I was using it I had a bunch of them with a massive fan in front of them and having a fan on it made then run hotter.

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Samurai Wallet co-founder pleaded not guilty, released on $1m bond on: April 30, 2024, 01:40:15 PM
The restrictions are fairly standard. The question comes down to how much leeway the judge and courts give him. If he asks to go to someplace outside of his travel limit they can easily say yes. But they still want to know where he is. Same with crypto transactions. If he can show that he has crypto that has nothing to do with Samurai at all and needs to sell it to have some income they could come down hard and say no, or just let him sell.

I can see them restricting BTC transactions until he could really prove that it did not come from anything having to do with Samurai.

Just also want to make the point that ACINQ #1 spot in channels that they are #1 by a large percentage over the next closest one
https://1ml.com/node?order=channelcount
AND the #2 the 1ML node is a somewhat not real number. To do claim that a node is yours on 1ML.com you have to open a channel to them for a certain amount. There are probably a lot of people who do that to show control / ownership of a node and then never close it. (Dave raises hand)

Everyone should connect to as many other nodes as possible an this open large channels to large providers making them even larger is not helping growth.

Once again and as always....in my opinion.

-Dave

I might be wrong about this but huge channels with multiple connections are good for inbound capacity or at least that was the case when there were fewer of them, you need a well-connected node with capacity in your list if you're just starting and you want to receive payments with small capacity on your own. Of course, multiple channels amounting to the same value would provide the same capacity but one entity that is making a business out of this would be faster and more reliable at providing liquidity and rebalancing.

Anyhow, I don't think ACINQ is going to close its channels anywhere soon, the only reason I see for that would be MICA and how that is interpreted, but I don't think it's a priority for them, LN is still insignificant globally.

Yes, but we run the risk of the other side which is if something happens to ACINQ. Hack, runs out of money, decides to quit the game, whatever. Them shutting down is going to do a lot more Bad Things to day to day functioning of LN due to the fact that they have so many channels and so much in it. I don't see anything changing and that is part of the problem because it makes it tougher for other people in the space to get an edge.

Found this stuff: https://www.stone-paper.com/en/stone-paper-the-environment-friendly/

https://rocastonepaper.com/

There are a couple of different brands out there that are all similar. Do you want to add to the test?
Might not get 8.5: x 11" but if you can stick the notebook sized stuff in your printer it should work.

7  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Lists of open-source bitcoin lightning wallets on: April 29, 2024, 04:23:06 PM
There are some useful lightning network posts in the past, I will add some to the OP. But posts some posts created by RapTarX and Rath_ (who is the father of lightning network on this forum) have invalid imgur images. I will find something to do about the images if they both do not come back on this forum to update the image. But there was a time Rath_ posted that he will update the invalid images to valid ones but nothing has been done and I guess it is because he is too busy to do anything on the forum.

Depending on how much of that mythical free time stuff you may have you can get to the images and post them here or in another thread.

Using this post:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5202798.msg53122219#msg53122219
There is a broken image link. In FireFox (can't comment on other browsers) if you right click on the image you can copy the image link which gets you:

https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2Fh01LrzH.png&t=661&c=TQfkSQK-kBL65g

If you take out the https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u= part you get https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2Fh01LrzH.png&t=661&c=TQfkSQK-kBL65g
%3A is the encoding for a : and %2F is the encoding for a / so if you replace them you get https://i.imgur.com/h01LrzH.png&t=661&c=TQfkSQK-kBL65g
which when you go there redirects you to https://imgur.com/h01LrzH which is what was supposed to be shown.

Now, since it's not my work I am not going to download those images and upload them to talkimg or some other place without tagging all of them as to where they came from. Which leads to the "need a lot of free time" thing.

Back to this subject. Another data point might be TOR can use (yes / no) and built into the app (yes / no)
Some like BTCitbanana will connect over TOR and it's included in the build. Others do not and require TOR on the device.

8  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Lists of open-source bitcoin lightning wallets on: April 29, 2024, 01:25:35 PM
I think we should also have a bit of a discussion about what a lightning network wallet is.

If you are running something like BTCitbanana you are more or less running a front end on your own lightning node (or whatever node you are connecting to)
The private keys are generated and the wallet is setup / configured BEFORE you connect to it with the app.

Same with the web front ends, is Ride The Lightning https://www.ridethelightning.info/ a web wallet is Thunderhub https://thunderhub.io/ a web wallet?

Things to think about.

9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why did the 1st Gen NFTs have to be so damn Ugly? on: April 28, 2024, 09:07:10 PM
Because nobody was taking them seriously so they were 'whatever' once they took off and got popular that is what they kept running with.
At least that's how I see it.

The other option was lets see if people are going to buy whatever we put up there because of 'Influencers'

10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Maybe someone knows who the address belongs to? on: April 28, 2024, 04:03:53 PM
kuCoin only gave a partial email (credited account)
mikec*******n8330@gmail.com , knowing the full email address, I could try to contact him...

Did you try googling that partial email or variations of it?
You might get lucky.

If it really is a gmail you might get lucky people tend to use one email from them in a lot of places so it might actually be searchable.

11  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: The airstrikes begin... (Phoenix Wallet) on: April 28, 2024, 03:31:49 PM
Phoenix wallet is run by ACINQ. Having them leave the US is a GOOD thing.

And when the EU does the same, what will they do? Prepare for mandatory KYC LN payments.  Wink

I would like to see more of what I do. More people running their own node peering to each other with lots of smaller channels.

With multi-path payments these monster nodes are really not needed as much.
https://docs.lightning.engineering/the-lightning-network/pathfinding/multipath-payments-mpp

Everyone should connect to as many other nodes as possible an this open large channels to large providers making them even larger is not helping growth.

Once again and as always....in my opinion.

12  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Fezzik Hashdisk with 624 BM1366 ASIC chips on: April 28, 2024, 11:55:37 AM
Would really like to see things going the other way with less expensive lower hash lower power miners. Something more powerful then the 4TH Avalon Nano 3 but smaller then these 'mega miners'. Something you can run at home that really would work as a space heater but not needing so much power & cooling that your electric bill goes nuts from the power requirements and your ears bleed from the noise.

But this is still cool so.....

13  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: The airstrikes begin... (Phoenix Wallet) on: April 28, 2024, 11:49:46 AM
As always run your own node. There are a couple of guides here and many nodes in a box / prepackaged nodes like mynodebtc or umbrel will use TOR for everything.

Phoenix wallet is run by ACINQ. Having them leave the US is a GOOD thing.
They are the #1 node in terms of channels and the #2 node in terms of capacity. So on the surface it's a oh no they are leaving thing this is so bad.
BUT....
Being #1 and #2 is not a good thing for the lightning network.
NOBODY else in the top 7 spots for either is in both lists.

If you think loosing mixers is bad in terms of privacy. When they have that many channels going through them and that much funding they probably have more info on your LN use then MasterCard does on your shopping.
(OK it's not that bad but you get the point)

If DaveF is using phoenix wallet and wants to pay NotATether who uses phoenix wallet then ACINQ knows all about it.

I hope they shrink a lot so more services come into the space.

15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Cheap & silent mini PC for Bitcoin node & blockchain explorer? on: April 27, 2024, 06:01:41 PM
Same here.
I even purchased totally silent analogue wall clock.

You need one of these then: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmos_clock

https://www.jaeger-lecoultre.com/us-en/clocks/atmos

...
This is what AI is saying for average laptops:

Quote
Laptops typically use between 30-70 watts of power when in use.
The average power consumption of a laptop is around 50-60 watts.

Power Consumption by Activity:

Web browsing: 20-40 watts
Office work: 30-50 watts
Video streaming: 40-60 watts
Gaming: 60-120 watts
Video editing: 80-150 watts

At least with the mid range Dells and HPs that I deal with, I see a high variation of power pull from the wall when using cheap generic AC adapters vs. using the OEM ones.
Better build quality and better components probably saves you 3 to 5 watts at a minimum. Over years and years of 24/7 use that does add up to a real number.

16  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wasabi Wallet - Open Source, Noncustodial Coinjoin Software on: April 27, 2024, 04:32:12 PM
The Land of the Free is no more!

zkSNACKs and Wasabi Wallet has been blocked for US citizens. They can no longer download the software or interact with its APIs and other services. US IP addresses have been blocked.
Not that I am one bit sorry for Wasabi or zkSNACKs. They deserve the storm if it ends up coming their way. It's sad for anyone in the US who still relied on Wasabi (they shouldn't have) to improve their privacy.

Hopefully America will be free one day.

https://blog.wasabiwallet.io/zksnacks-now-blocking-u-s-residents-and-citizens/

Since they host their builds on Github you can still download them with no issues.

If you are US based and you run it and it works then they are as they say using TOR and it should not matter.

If at any time the wallet pops up anything telling you that you are US based and can't use the service then somewhere along the line they are sending your IP to the their servers so at that point you know they are getting your real IP. Which as we know they do not need.

17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Miners revenues drop to the lowest in years as Runes fomo fades away on: April 27, 2024, 02:58:36 PM
Big miners don't care. They are in it for the long haul. Good times, bad times, all level out over time. It's just the way it is in business.
Small home hobby miners don't care. We are not making any real BTC anyway after cost of the miners and electricity and so on.

Mid size miners, they if they don't have the capital to ride out the dips it can hurt, but how many of them are really out there.

18  Economy / Lending / Re: [WANT] 6000 USDC Secured Loan on: April 27, 2024, 02:55:44 PM
OP - I suggest you set up a smart contract for this.  You sending $9000 to Eternad is risky, since he has little history and a lot of gambling posts.

Escrows on here charge expensive fees for what a smart contract does automatically, and often the escrow provides no additional protection at all.

Good luck!  Smiley

Technically this loan *is* gambling. Since even with a 150% security having it go off at 110% Eternad can still take a hit if it blows through the sell level without support.
We have all seen it happen with these tokens / alts, all of a sudden there is 0 support / buys for anything close to where it was.

My bad sorry!

I did not express myself correctly, what was meant is that the production has started and its not dependant on any preorder for the watches to be made. I have funded all what was necessary to make them.

No watch has been sold, and I want them to stay in the forum if possible! CI was born here, ample distribution is what I would like.

Expected date of delivery is around October-November so yes, these will be allocated earlier. A refundable deposit may be asked.

Regarding price, making a 21 run has been a big challenge, usually the lowest runs are around 100 units.

The aim is to be priced at less than 0.07 BTC at current rates

Having had to deal with something similar years (crap decades I'm old) ago with some motorcycle parts do the numbers work better to make the 100 and have 21 as the regular ones and have the other 79 as more generic ones?

Even if you have to do some different engraving on the back or edge to show these are the 21 "special" and these are just the "whatever" ones.

I don't think it would devalue the 21 by having others that are markedly different.
