461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which coin will skyrocket? on: April 02, 2014, 01:39:25 AM
NXT (in it for the long haul) Might be the most active community I've come across. Many individuals are working on clients and side projects. The new thing seems to be mining and dumping profits directly to NXT. I'm not a miner, but this I like  Shocked

Time will tell with NEM, Distribution looks to be better than NXT. Idea is nice but its just doesn't have that ring to it.  Roll Eyes

BlackCoin has my vote. Scarce ATM and good PoW/PoS transition.

VertCoin certainly looks promising with ASICs on the market soon. Many people think ASICs will ruin crypto. I tend to have my superstitions as well. Vert and adaptive/resistant forks are looking to be a very promising for maintaining stability and scarcity.

Look into Invicitus Innovations... great team working on DACs and multicurrency wallets. Holding PTS gets you a proportional share in future releases from the company. Active forum with continuous updates from the Devs.

I've been interested in DRK but as mentioned earlier it seems they are having trouble with anonymity...(which seems to be the main advantage), suggesting to me they will be looking at some sort of fork in the future to implement this promise. I have a question for all you DarkCoin advocates: With all the alternating algorithms implemented what kind of power consumption are we looking at?

Points of interest for me: Scarcity, Energy Efficiency, Security,

Glad this topic was started. Reading all your responses and composing my own has really make me rethink where my money is

+1

Still holding strong here.. my hands are getting tired but I'm in this for the long haul and we have strong community here. I forge regularly and unfortunately don't have a large enough stake to receive any rewards at the moment. Picked up some BC and received some coin within the first few days... Clearly this is in mostly due to the abundance of NXT.... the total supply of BC is only 7.5% of the total supply of NXT. So I guess that's not surprising.

Overall, the features planned for NXT certainly are advantageous over many other options on the market and the future still looks bright. Just offering some first hand experience with other options on the market so we can all learn from the competition. Smiley

P.S. To any devs out there the only mac client that seems to reliably work is Offspring (and older versions of the web client). Keep up the hard work. I've been seeing some great progress in the community! Love that we don't use forks of the same old qt wallet client.

463  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: March 27, 2014, 06:21:12 PM
just received my first mining reward overnight Smiley its great to see this working so well.... I have invested good amount of money in NXT and still have yet to receive any rewards (due to large stake holders). I think people will be happy to see such a quick PoS reward system.

will someone please explain the this coin to me? no premine I got that... PoS i get too... I guess where I am confused is where coins come from.. as I understand that there is no cap to the amount of coins that will exist in future years according to the FAQ

as far as I know, there is no more mining.  They're just redistributed.  I have 3k+ coins.  I won't get any more unless I buy low and sell high.  Same for everybody else.

this here's what I am referring to:
How many coins will there be?

There is no fixed amount.

up until I read that, you and I were on the same page.

Anybody else have any idea under what circumstances would new coins be created?

He means that there will be 1% proof of stake for the lifetime of the coin, which means there is no set amount of coins that can be created. So in about 75 years the total count of this coin will be double what it is now. 150 years after that it will double again etc.

However this does not take into account destroyed coins or compounding interest.

Thanks... just needed to clarify that because it also suggests that the minting reward could be paid wit transaction fees

thnx for mac versions!  Grin

Here's my Nxt client, feel free to add a short description to the original starter post:

Still in development, you may find some bugs, but wanted to show off this version:

(Btw, totally untested in IE, better use a different browser if you find UI quirks there).

http://nxtra.org/nxt-client/

As you'll see it's a web client. It is my hope that this might one day replace the official NRS web client now seen at http://localhost:7874 but that is up to Jean-Luc and CFB to decide.
...

Great design on the homepage! Haven't used/opened the client yet... don't have a testnet acct.

so, I'm curious why I have zero active connections to the network. when I start up the client it sometimes connects to one or two peers. the connections are dropped shortly after.

is there that few nodes?

what is "currentblocktx" represent?
474  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Vertcoin (newb) - General Questions on: February 05, 2014, 11:16:44 PM
I am in the same boat. MacBook Pro, tried to mine with just 2 cores using
Code:
setgenerate true [cores]

2 does not work, nor does two.
Code:
setgenerate true [2.0]

Error: value is type array, expected int

setgenerate true [two]

Error: Error parsing JSON:[two]

Anyway. Using just
Code:
setgenerate true
seems to work on the mac client.

Futhermore, the following prompt
Code:
getmininginfo
yields the following results:
Code:
{
"blocks" : 30248,
"currentblocksize" : 12217,
"currentblocktx" : 32,
"difficulty" : 148.49232621,
"errors" : "",
"generate" : true,
"genproclimit" : -1,
"hashespersec" : 3642,
"networkhashps" : 4406166634,
"pooledtx" : 33,
"testnet" : false
}

looks like 3642 hashes per sec Smiley haha woohoo!

New to the BTC world. Fascinated by the community and all these cryptocurrencies.

Correct me if I'm wrong but from my brief experience using wallets I have yet to see any companies offer any kind of insurance behind the security of their product. Has anyone heard or discussed plans for this? I think this kind of protection could really add value to the currency. Even just 100BTC  Wink

Thanks for all these replies. I actually just opened a wallet with coinbase. Everyone's responses have gotten me to reconsider.

What options are out there for P2P?

Does P2P include trading options like MtGox and BTCE?
