I think you are mistaking the facts I posted for me feeling sorry for Sonny. I do not feel sorry for him.
I think you are mistaking your opinions for facts.

I simply believe the solution for those who have paid their debts to society is NOT to have the unproductive fill up our streets and steal our tax money through welfare programs instead truly producing.
I agree to a certain degree. However, society should take some precautions. Pedophiles shouldn't work in a kindergarten. Scammers shouldn't handle large sums of money, because chances are they might not be able to resist the urge to take money again.

I simply believe in people and in their ability to reform their ways.
I believe people are tempted to defraud money in an environment where scammers don't get caught. Even more so if they already defrauded money in an environment where scammers usually do get caught.

Please self-disclose your alignment in your sig.
I'm neutral to BFL. I won't put it in my sig, because it could look like an advertisement for someone who didn't read your post.

A thread about hot Asian girls and nobody mentions Hyuna and Asa Akira?

The only way for a felon ex-convict to make it these days is to be an entrepreneur, because few if any will employ him for anything more than unskilled labor wages regardless of his actual skills or use of them on the job.

I am not saying this treatment is entirely undeserved, however our streets are becoming filled with people like this who can not take care of themselves, their families and responsibilities, which leaves it up to you and me to take care of them. They still need to breed, eat, and sleep, and work needs to provide this for them. Not taxes. I would much rather they do it for themselves, contributing to society and taking care of their responsibilities, while not placing any of the burden on the rest of us.

Unless you believe in the death penalty for crimes like Sonny did, you pretty much need to believe in the possibility of rehabilitation.
Oh, you made me cry  Cry Poor little criminal. I feel SO sorry for him. I mean, yes, he ripped hunderds of people off their life savings so they ended up poor and some of them maybe even homeless, but he still doesn't deserve to be poor himself. He needs a respectable job with a good salary and benefits.
/irony off

Come on, give me a break! There is a reason why nobody wants to employ ex-convicts! Employers are, unlike you, afraid of losing their money (or getting killed, raped, whatever). And we're not talking about a petty thief, a wife beater or a guy who crashed a car while drunk. He's a major league scammer, probably much worse than Pirate.

Spending jail time does not prove change of character. There is only one way such a person can regain the trust of their peers: Someone has to vouch for him. Preferably someone with a huge stake in their reputation.

Any volunteers?

You mean like what Meni Rosenfeld did with Alberto Armandi (or vice versa)? LOL, that worked well!

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=93445.0

I didn't follow the story closely, but I think Alberto is a serial scammer who got Meni to vouch for him and then ran off.

Edit: Here is Meni's summary:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=93445.msg1204361#msg1204361
Well - usually reputable people are careful about whom they vouch for. Problem is there's never a 100% guarantee.
The more systematic form of vouching is insurance. But I don't think anybody wants to offer insurance against a potential BFL scam? Is there?
Well, it depends on the terms. Statistically, there is a certain chance that BFL is a scam and a chance that it is not a scam. How much and under what conditions are you willing to pay me for an insurance?

You're bullish on BTC, yet you denominate your investment in USD. If the price of BTC rises (as you presume), you will have to pay much more than 4-6% per year. I hope you realize that.

i dont think you understand. Im paying dividends in rice.
You're going to mail your creditors rice?

I will if they want. But they will have to pay customs and shipping. So I'm going to assume they will want me to sell it for them in fiat, I then convert the fiat in the BTC and send them the BTC.

I just read the whole thread and found out that you want to denominate your debt in USD, not in bitcoins. I apologize.
467  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Butterfly Labs CEO 25 Million USD Mail Fraud — A Concise Summary of Evidence on: September 27, 2012, 03:31:54 PM
He did spend two years in jail for it. What more should he do?
So he spent two years in jail for a multi-million scam and then he somehow became an honest man. Magic! I wonder how it works.

Spending jail time does not prove change of character. There is only one way such a person can regain the trust of their peers: Someone has to vouch for him. Preferably someone with a huge stake in their reputation.

Any volunteers?
Matthew will be glad to do that.

mistake, error, lapse in judgement, crime, whatever. Its all the same in this context as far as I am concerned. Hows about we just agree that its "doing something wrong in the past that makes us concerned, dilligent and watchful, but certainly not forgetful, and we might be able to conditionally overlook or forgive". We all have our own conditions.

I know people who have done wrong in the past and they are good people who can do good things. I also know the opposite. Lets just say that I am an optimist. Dont let me down BFL!

So if I understand this correctly, according to your laws of euphemisms "Did a little boo-boo" is about equivalent to "Shot that dude in the face and pissed in his eye socket."

The guy was a central figure in a scam to bilk the elderly that succeeded to the tune of $19M. That wasn't a mistake, it was exactly what they intended. It just makes him a grade A asshole.
This.
I don't understand how people can advocate a multi-millon fraud as childish shenanigans. I mean, damn, he ripped off hunderds of people, some of them lost their life savings and you just say 'Don't let me down BFL!'? Fucking 19 million dollars. He didn't even bother to let us know. And when we found out he didn't even bother to come here and talk to his customers. Instead, he sent Inaba to call you idiots in all of his posts. Wake up, he's already fucking you in the ass!

'..we might be able to conditionally overlook or forgive'? Seriously? You just close your eyes and pretend nothing happened and hope everything will be alright? Oh, let's just release Manson and Breivik. They're good guys, after all. Made a few mistakes, but hey, we're going to be diligent and watchful and we might be able to overlook and forgive. Conditionally, of course!

Inaba was right all along. You are idiots.

I would like to know what specific functions Sonny carries out within BFL. Is he a director, president, owner, CEO, founder, employee, or a combination of some or all of the above? Also, what is the history of his involvement with BFL?

^ +1. Unlike the other stupid questions, this is really the only one that matters.
Have you considered the possibility that all employees of BFL might be knowingly involved in the scam and thus whatever they say is possibly a lie?
472  Other / Off-topic / Re: "Frist Look at BFL's ASIC Hardware" on: September 26, 2012, 05:50:51 PM
Mark my words. This is a scam.

Are you a GPU miner about to lose your investment?

/ontopic
I understand the CPU clocking explanations given, but isn't the manufacturing process something that yields predictable results? Ok, let's say there are some rejection rates of ... 1%?

I was expecting the jala to be a full working ASIC chip, the Single to be X working chips and so on. The difference in price between them would be from:
(++) additional materials used (i.e. fan, more electronic components, more metal in the case)
(--) discount from buying "chips in bulk".

Not from dwarfing a chip down.
No, I'm not a miner. But I know a scam when I see one. And this is a scam. S.C.A.M.

There always have been (and always will be) people in this world who either lack intelligence, or motivation, and say or do things that appear to reflect stupidity on their part.  This isn't new.

There also always has been (and always will be) people in this world who find that they need to point out those stupid actions to as many others as they can to improve their own self image.

"Look there is a stupid person.  The whole world must be full of them.  Thankfully I am intelligent enough to know better than that!"
Don't be so serious.
The pic is funny as hell.

476  Other / Off-topic / Re: Have you ever encountered other beings or aliens? on: September 25, 2012, 10:30:33 PM
I haven't met aliens, but I've met 'other beings'. They still can be seen in remote places where no one goes, mainly woods and mountains. For example, if you go to a forest at night, you may be fortunate enough to see a fairy for a brief moment. There are also other beings, but I'm not sure what they're called in English. Some are pretty dangerous though.

Come, visit this part of the world and maybe you'll see some of them.

which part of the world are you referring to?
Eastern Europe, in my case. But I believe there are other places, where similar creatures may live. They need solitude though. Areas with heavy industry, big cities, highways, etc. are out of question. My grand parents lived in a cottage far from any big city. They used to collect wood, mushrooms, forest fruits etc in nearby forest. Sometimes, I used to go with them and that's when I saw those creatures. Of course, it didn't happen everytime I went to the forest, but once in a blue moon.

Shit like this only decreases the signal to noise ratio.
Quoting that shit decreases the ratio even more. Three gifs in a row effectively derail any thread.
Totally agree.

Besides, everything has been said. BFL is a scam and there will be no ASIC (at least not from them). Idiots got scammed, scammers got rich. Boom, bang, case closed. No need to beat a dead horse for another twenty pages.

Is that interview with Sonny a scam too? It sounded quite reasonable.
Let me put it this way :

We know one thing for sure - Sonny Vlasides was convicted for a $25 million scam. $25M is not only a huge shitload of money, it's much more than what pirateat40 took. From my point of view, Sonny is much worse than Pirate. Now imagine finding out that BFL is ran by Pirate. Or even better, replace Sonny's name in this thread by 'Pirate'. How much trust would you put in BFL if it was ran by Pirate? And how much trust would you put in claims made by Pirate in an interview about his business?

Simply put, any statements made by a convicted scammer are completely irrelevant to every thinking human.
