461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Invictus Innovations ProtoShares Cheat Sheet | CPU Mining on: November 19, 2013, 02:08:01 AM
How many coins per block, what is the coin limit if their is one and what is the rate of change of coin generation over time if there is one.

Any sources of info on this would be gratefully received.
462  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Primecoin Price on: November 19, 2013, 01:53:01 AM
Damn that was quick, the momentum based proof of work paper only just came out, I blinked and there is an implementation.

Having a trawl now; apart from ProtoShares are there any other momentum based PoW coins out there? What other CPU coins are there?

Someone should create a taxonomy of these approaches at some point. (Way too busy at the moment or I would defiantly volunteer to do this otherwise).
463  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Primecoin Price on: November 18, 2013, 11:43:16 PM
I can see the anti primecoin trolls are out.

As far as I can tell people are too busy with the bitcoin boom to think about alt coins right now. There have also been a couple recent releases of cpu coins that have gotten a lot of attention.

Thanks, very interesting, can you name some of the other CPU coins or point me at some info on this?

Anyone else have any insights?
465  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-11-18 -- CSPAN ch.3 - United States Senate Hearing on Digital Currencies on: November 18, 2013, 09:58:49 PM
I like Jerry Brito. He conveys some important points very eloquently.

Just started watching; thanks for the link.

Any highlights to report so far?
467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Primecoin Price on: November 18, 2013, 06:18:13 PM
Anyone have any ideas why Primecoin's value has fallen recently whilst all other altcoins seem to be increasing in value against fiat along with the BTC rally?
468  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casascius physical bitcoins for sale – 5, 1, 0.5 & anodized Al coins for sale on: November 18, 2013, 11:46:28 AM

469  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who here actually bought something with btc in last 6 months? on: November 17, 2013, 09:26:27 PM
If you're going to spend it makes sense to spend during a bubble as your money buys more. However I suspect people will generally do the opposite.

Recently I've bought:

Steam games
Physical crypos of bitcoin and alts
1.1 bitcoins on 2 rounds of drinks and food at the haymakers in Cambridge

470  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reminder, Bitcoin has intrinsic value: its proof of work on: November 17, 2013, 01:18:32 PM
+1 Totally agree. Really refreshing to see this post.

I feel like a broken record because I've been saying to so many people. When supposed experts say Bitcoin has no intrinsic value it shows they do not understand what it is and therefore their opinions should be called into question.

Bitcoin's value is derived from proof of work because Bitcoin is the monetisation of proof of work.

Bought some, they arrived promptly and are really well made.

Thanks JinnBitcoin.
472  Economy / Goods / Re: CGB shirts are in!!! * FiniteByDesign * Physical Cryptos/Proofs/Jewelry/Merch on: November 15, 2013, 10:42:32 AM
Black CGB shirts came in with an error last night  Angry

Replacement shirts estimated to be in next Wednesday, Nov 13th.

Are they the first batch?

If so they'll be worth a fortune soon! Wink

Signed.
474  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Help Importing Litecoin Private Keys on: November 14, 2013, 08:30:13 AM
I'm importing from the following address:

    LhkcvamWUuGFbUvhGraAC9pKdpMDHku2ZC

See here:

    http://block-explorer.com/address/LhkcvamWUuGFbUvhGraAC9pKdpMDHku2ZC

The balance is 0.1LTC. I'm assuming there are no restrictions on how much one can import?

Going to try importing on a different LTC client later today when I'm at a different machine.

Is there a list of error codes anyone knows of they can point me at?
475  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: November 13, 2013, 08:29:55 PM
Thanks.
Interesting idea and definitely should be an optional setting. Let me think it through. It wont be for the coming release though.

Thanks, there was an article about some researchers who tested the efficacy of this and got fairly positive results in New Scientist about five years back - can't remember who the researchers were, it may be searchable on-line though.

One of my UK bank accounts also now uses it for the on-line login. It sounds weird, but the first few times it rearranged the numbers on the pad I did't notice...
476  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Help Importing Litecoin Private Keys on: November 13, 2013, 10:51:21 AM
Make sure that your wallet is unlocked... if it's not use the walletpassphrase and a time alotment under the debug screen to unlock it and add the private key.

Yup done that...

I have done this with the wallet decrypted using 'walletpassphrase'. I have also scanned the 2D barcode for this key to make sure I'm not mistyping anything.
477  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-10-11 -RT - Virtual Virtue: Bitcoin crypto currency makes name in charities on: November 12, 2013, 07:02:20 PM
This is good news. People need to start using bitcoin directly.

Will point VirtualDoctors.org at this. They are another charity that provides telemedicine equipment to African villages.

You can donate to Virtual Doctors here:

478  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: November 12, 2013, 06:25:53 PM
Jan: big fan of this wallet. I've recommended it to a lot of people and use it myself.

Suggestion for added security: can you have the PIN number pad's numbers arranged randomly each time it comes up? This will prevent eavesdroppers working out your numbers from your finger position. Or perhaps have this feature as an option?
479  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Help Importing Litecoin Private Keys on: November 12, 2013, 06:06:22 PM
Trying to redeem a private key at the Litecoin QT Debug Console and I get the following message:

Error adding key to wallet (code -4)

I have done this with the wallet decrypted using 'walletpassphrase'. I have also scanned the 2D barcode for this key to make sure I'm not mistyping anything.

I am using version 0.8.3.7 on Windows 7.

Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong..?

The market is now valued at around $3.0 billion, and the total virtual currencies market is set to grow another 14% to $55.4 billion by 2017

Maybe I am just too bullish, but 14% growth in three years seems a little on the low side for Bitcoin doesn't it?   Cheesy

14%! That's hilarious. Evidently they know something we don't.
