Let’s google first to see if things have been suggested before. Tongue

Oh well...it seems this has been discussed before, but I didn't see the topic prior writing this one. My bad.
But, as far as I see, it past almost an year since then... Maybe theymos forgot about that suggestion. Maybe after seeing this thread he will decide to make the change Smiley
4642  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why people debate so much about BTC value? on: January 17, 2020, 09:25:38 AM
Bitcoin’s origins come from a long time ago, many years before Satoshi. Crypto anarchists as Tim May, John Gilmore or Eric Hughes forseen the need of a form of private money which could not be controlled by the govern, which should offer people liberty on the free market. Bitcoin’s backgrounds laid on anarchism, not on greed and profits. Also, on setting people free from govern’s oppression.
Satoshi managed to resolve what many others debated and tried before him, like Wei Dai, Adam Back or Nick Szabo. But he didn’t have in mind to list Bitcoin to exchanges, nor to make people rich. Just free from the governs, banks and any other middle-man. Unfortunately, many prefer to be rich instead of free.
He didn’t think to offer a certain price in USD to Bitcoin upon creating it, just to make all the efforts in order for his creation to be widely used.

Anyway, bitcoin is primarily an investment even if you think it's a currency that was designed to replace fiat (which I'm not sure is actually the case, OP).
Where did you get that information from? Satoshi never said that. And this makes absolute no sense in my opinion.
This is so unrealistic, almost delusional.
BTC wasn't created to compete with the value of USD or other fiat currencies, but to replace them completely
If you could tell me exactly where this premise is written in the Bitcoin whitepaper, I'd appreciate it because i don't quite remember reading that (it's been a while since i read the whitepaper).
Let’s remember some of Satoshi’s words.
What is needed is an electronic payment system based on cryptographic proof instead of trust, allowing any two willing parties to transact directly with each other without the need for a trusted third party”.

The traditional banking model achieves a level of privacy by limiting access to information to the parties involved and the trusted third party. The necessity to announce all transactions publicly precludes this method, but privacy can still be maintained by breaking the flow of information in another place: by keeping public keys anonymous. The public can see that someone is sending an amount to someone else, but without information linking the transaction to anyone. This is similar to the level of information released by stock exchanges, where the time and size of individual trades, the "tape", is made public, but without telling who the parties were”.

I've been working on a new electronic cash system that's fully peer-to-peer, with no trusted third party.
We very, very much need such a system.
For transferable proof of work tokens to have value, they must have
monetary value.  To have monetary value, they must be transferred within
a very large network - for example a file trading network akin to
bittorrent
”.

The root problem with conventional currency is all the trust that's required to make it work. The central bank must be trusted not to debase the currency, but the history of fiat currencies is full of breaches of that trust. Banks must be trusted to hold our money and transfer it electronically, but they lend it out in waves of credit bubbles with barely a fraction in reserve. We have to trust them with our privacy, trust them not to let identity thieves drain our accounts
With e-currency based on cryptographic proof, without the need to trust a third party middleman, money can be secure and transactions effortless.
”.

Satoshi never said literally that he want to change entirelly the fiat money, but this is what it would lead to if Bitcoin would have been used as he created it. He wanted to help people to not be oppressed anymore by governs, by banks and by any other middle-men. To give people privacy and anonymity. To offer a way thus governs couldn’t track anymore every financial transaction. To not pay taxes and fees to middle-men. To transact directly, peer-to-peer, without paying huge fees, as it happens (for example), if you send money in different countries / continents from your bank account or from Western Union. To help all the unbanked population.

The majority in the market are looking to make profit as no one is confined to this market as a religion or a cult Tongue but these topics about pump are irritating .
Actually there are some seeing Bitcoin as a cult, but only a few, unfortunately – check nullius’ topic The Nullian Bitcult. To be honest, I’d love to hear his oppinion as well.

We are locked in on a system made and decided by the government, and even how much you want to change it to foresee a world running on cryptocurrency alone for valuation, making that possible would still be difficult as of the moment.
Bitcoin was not created for speculation, but in a free market, speculation is what is happening.  That's not necessary good or bad but is just reality.
And this is what Satoshi tried to change, by offering his creation, for free, to the people. All they had to do was to use it as intended: peer-to-peer transactions on the free market, rendering the govern as irrelevant as it could not control them. Sadly, people did not understand that and many still don’t... And the below quote illustrates very well:
Can't figure out the actual fack of this writing, should we be satisfied with what the value Bitcoin has? Is it? If I am not wrong then what the hell is talking about? I don't know. if you don't have any desire to make your wealth more and more then how could you wish to make yourself a wealthy person?
4643  Other / Meta / Suggestion to change the obsolete social media from account info on: January 17, 2020, 08:30:03 AM
As of now, at the account info are available the following (obsolete) social media: ICQ, AIM, MSN and YIM.

- ICQ is not used anymore or is used only by a few people. Its servers were shut down in December 2018.
- AIM was shut down in December 2017 but even before this date it wasn't used anymore.
- MSN desn't exist anymore under this name since 2005 when it was rebranded as Windows Live Messenger, but even this new form of MSN was shut down in 2013.
-YIM was shut down in July 2018.

Considering all of the above, is it the time to change these social media from the profile info (if it is technically possible)? Maybe they can be replaced with Telegram, Discord, Skype and Instagram, for example.

What makes you think he would develop a quantum computer? Where did this idea come from?
4645  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why people debate so much about BTC value? on: January 16, 2020, 08:58:47 AM
Since ages, people keep debating - will BTC pump? Will it go to the moon? Will it drop?

I'm asking myself what's the purpose of these questions? BTC wasn't created to compete with the value of USD or other fiat currencies, but to replace them completely. Therefore, if people would just think prices for various stuff in BTC, instead of calculating them in the BTC value compared to USD, all these questions would be irrelevant.

Think just that 1BTC is equal to 1BTC, not to its value in USD. Take as an example what happens in this forum with the price of VIP account: it was 50BTC since the beginning and it remained 50BTC, no matter the value of BTC in USD. Because the price was calculated in BTC and not in USD.

And even if we would think about the value of BTC in USD: it is 8000 times more valuable than USD!!! It is world's most valuable currency! It actually crushed the USD! So why does it matter if it is 8000USD or 1000USD? Even if it was 1000USD, it would mean it is 1000 times more valuable than the dollar, right? Even if BTC was valued at 2$, it would be twice as valuable compared to USD which is world's most important fiat currency.
4646  Economy / Reputation / Re: Does it prove that jvdp is a merit seller and p2pclub is a buyer? Read in. on: January 16, 2020, 08:31:49 AM
Indeed, this is not enough proof. I think the only 100% proof in such cases would be actually to engage in such a discussion / transaction and post here the screenshots.
4647  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: NiceHash stops paying back -- scam or not? on: January 16, 2020, 07:46:08 AM
I'm one of the miner mine using nicehash before but I didn't receive any notification that they are going to pay the affected wallets including mine.

They announced the repayment program on their website and on Fb as well (maybe on other social media too). This was the initial statement: https://www.nicehash.com/blog/post/nicehash-will-fully-reimburse-its-users.

If you had an external wallet in the moment of the hack, in order to receive the funds paid monthly by them, you had to check that address that was affected during the hack. And in order to actually receive the funds in your external wallet, there should be at least 100.000 satoshis in order to make the payment (this is their minimum treshold for paying to external wallets). So if you had a small amount which never got to reach 100.000 satoshis, you have to mine on the old address to reach up to 100.000 satoshis (what you mine + what they paid) in order to actually receive your payment.

For internal wallets users things should have been way easier, as for internal wallets the minimum treshold is way lower. But, again, you must check the address you had during the hack.

It is all explained in the above link.

And if your 82% of the stolen funds (this is how much they paid back) is above the minimum treshold (100.000 satoshis for external wallet) and you still did not receive them, you can contact them on Fb. They respond usually in 1-3 days.

I hope this helps Smiley

Congrats TECSHARE! It is an impressive number and not many can achieve it! Especially taking into account that we are talking about valuable posts, not junk.
Your work here is priceless.

Why do you need the accounts registered in 2011 (still active)? Did something happen in that specific year?

4651  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: NiceHash stops paying back -- scam or not? on: January 14, 2020, 10:22:22 AM
I agree with you. However, the main problem is that they stopped paying back the stolen funds, this being their second lie. First was that at beginning of 2018 every client will be fully reimbursed by that time. After, they said they will pay each month a small part, instead of paying back everything in a single installment.
4652  Economy / Service Discussion / NiceHash stops paying back -- scam or not? on: January 14, 2020, 07:57:44 AM
Many of you heard about the NiceHash hack from December 2017, when almost 5000BTC were stolen.

Many things happened since then:
- the CEO Marko Kobal resigned from his position soon after the hack, contributing to the rumors that the hack was an inside job
- NH states that all the customers will be reimbursed in full at the beginning of 2018, after a group of investors would help the company; with this move, nobody could sue them since stolen funds were (supposed to be) paid back
- NH states that a police investigation started
- the CTO Matjaz Skorjanec leaves the company to his father
- the CTO Matjaz Skorjanec, a well-known hacker (developer of Mariposa botnet), got arrested in autumn of 2019
- instead of paying back all stolen money at the beginning of 2018, NH paid a monthly percentage to the clients, starting with 5-10% monthly and lowering the percentage in a few months to 1%
- they kept paying 1%/month until December 2019, reaching a total of 82% paid back in what they called the "repayment program"; although the percentage paid back monthly was very low (1%), at least there was a hope
- since January 2018 nothing was heared anymore about the police investigation, nor about the investors.

However, in December 2019, a shocking announcement was made: NiceHash, the largest hash-power broker marketplace is forced to pause the Repayment program at 82%.

The reason for stopping paying back is the following: "Unfortunately, NiceHash will not be able to fulfill its promise to fully reimburse all users and achieve the 100% reimbursement status or the Repayment program in the foreseeable future. We have been repaying the old balance to our users through our fees and thus cutting our income. Our income and thus Repayment program assets are subject to taxation. The current state of the Repayment program is at 100,04% of the original loss value in our accounting books".

Could this be the final of the alleged scam from December 2017? Many said it was no hack, but an internal job. The managers resignation might also be linked. Many suspected that although NH stated they are paying back cutting their profits, they were actually paying back from customers' earnings, which earned less and less money from selling their hash power (for example, 1xNvidia 1080Ti would produce per day in summer of 2017 about 9$ and today it produces only 45 cents). After all, if it was a scam, they kept 18% of the "stolen" funds, which mean about 850BTC.

However, even if it was not a scam, they are now responsible in front of the law. If until now they could not be sued since they were paying back, not the situation changed. Although they say that the taxes for paying back 82% took to a total amount paid by them to 100.04% of the stolen funds, they have to convince a court of law that they can stop paying back the remaining 18%.

I'm curious of other opinions about this case.

I totally agree. TOAO shouldn't get punished for being extra retarded. The forum rules should apply equally for everyone.

Maybe a psychological or an IQ test should be filled when registering a new account Smiley Who fails the test can't become a member.

I remember suchmoon's / oeleo's advice to usually ignore TOAA, but now I'm curious abouth something: who is we? Who will leave the forum if OP's questions won't be answered?

"We shall likely NOT return at all again after the next 2 days".

Besides, why should the forum worry if this group will leave forever? The forum lived even without Satoshi...is there any real reason to worry if OP plus the other ones included in "we" will leave?
4657  Other / Off-topic / Re: BTCdude ''The search for the dude behind Bitcoin''. on: January 13, 2020, 07:40:10 PM
I saw it! Great job so far.
I also found this information, if you think it fits somewhere into your quest: https://www.businessinsider.com/swiss-software-developer-bitcoin-2014-4.

I knew before that he registered the domain using AnonymousSpeech (this information was sustained here also by theymos), but the connection with that guy was unknown to me.

Did you watch the documentary? Did it help you somehow?

Welcome! I'm also interested about the subject, but is hard to believe that we'll ever find Satoshi's real identity... Maybe this will happen only if he will decide to go public.

Do your own research carefully, OP. This sounds to me similar to what game-protect did inside the forum. If you don't know about game-protect, read here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5183189.0. Several other similar topics are also opened about game-protect.

The documentary "Silk Road Case: The Real, Untold Story" raises some suspicions / questions that Satoshi could be Mark Karpeles and DPR (the administrator of Silk Road). You can find the full movie on YouTube.

The subject was touched by me as well in this topic: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5211862.msg53418864#msg53418864.

The movie is about Ross Ulbricht, but the allegations about Satoshi are presented in the first 10 minutes of the documentary.

Maybe this info can help you in your quest for finding who Satoshi is Smiley
