thanks danbi, srcxxx and cryptonit for the information, very helpful! :-)

I had a look here:

https://github.com/danbi/sph-sgminer/commit/a9cd797df5d7917d4de7ab06727b695b0b20a3d1

It seems there is no difference between diamond and groestlcoin, what am I missing?

groestlcoin did choose using regarding transactions sha256 instead of sha256d which most coins uses
diamond did stay on the established standard of sha256d

at solomining this doesnt matter because transactions are handled inside wallet

at stratum mining block have to be prepared by miner + stratum the right way to be accepted by the wallet

could you point me to the related change in the commits?
many thanks!

Will coins kept in a pool generate POS?
I know I should keep coins in my wallet, but I was just wondering if it behaves the same as an exchange or if the pool or myself will get the extra coins.

how to turn off the sound on dmdpool.digsys.bg?

+1

it beeps at every block found, which is annoying :-)

@danbi: Pool not providing work fast enough

When Craptsy and mintpal will add this coin?

Mintpal already has GRS.

Curious, difficulty went down like crazy, but unlike yesterday hashrate is stable so far...

difficulty doesn't depend on hashrate alone.
it depends on how often blocks have been found recently, which in turn depends on luck :-)
4769  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GRS] GroestlCoin: Democratizing Mining | AES Accelerated | Ultimate PoW on: May 08, 2014, 09:52:51 AM
price is low,diff is high,
it is very low profit to dig ,or even no profit
so many people do not leave, why?

I believe we have some DMD miners on board, waiting for a DMD working pool to come up.
For them, better mine at low or no profit than not mining at all (some can't solo mine for some reason).

(here goes the old theory that you need at least 10 years to learn programming)  Roll Eyes
EDIT: A good reading for anyone who believes they are good programmer. Worth reading anyway, even if you are not programmer. At least to understand better the validity of experience/expertise claims. A must read for managers, if you ask me Smiley

[OFFTOPIC]
I don't understand why, in the mind of people, programming should be easier than any other proficience.
Maybe because Obama said everybody should hack? :-D
Ask anybody if you can learn playing an instrument or building a house in seven days.
I've been programming for almost 30 years and still learning!

what kind of groestl algo should be used to mine dmd ?
myriad-groestl or groestl of groestlcoin ?

groestlcoin

there is nothing to be proud of - I had two options basically - wait till they finish, or implement Cloudflare for example. Because implementing Cloudflare means changing DNS, it would disrupt all mining. This would be even more confusing for everyone. So I decided to wait...

Anyway - Cloudflare will be implemented anyway but with proper preparation Smiley

feeleep

cloudflare must be making money today... it's popping up everywhere... they are very good - or - they are the DDOSers Cheesy

www2.coinmine.pl - DEAD
http://www.omargpools.ca/grs/ - 0 workers?
http://grs.5limi.com/ - 0 workers?

coinmine.pl is/was not dead, it had been under heavy DDOS but was accepting shares normally, only the website was affected.
It's back now.

Good for the planet too...   I would invest half what was for rig-s,,,for solar stuff and mine  only at day,,,  if they would let me,,use it only for my personaly use,,and I would decide later if I would like to sell electricity further...but...but...but

coin minible  only at day..  would it go,, like it would start in the morning (day light-even rainy days) and shutdown at sundown,,,

how does even coin launch look like??  is it coming from one main computer that ran    make stuff  and my GPU here, calculates what he sends,,,    or??

mining with solar panels is not a good deal: you need a huge investment and if the weather is bad you might mine very little for weeks.
country laws may put a lot of restraints so watch for that too.
if you want solar panels, do it for your house and mine as a plus.
4775  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GRS] GroestlCoin, super efficient algo & fair CPU/GPU mining 4 everyman! on: April 24, 2014, 08:22:03 AM
Hey everyone,

I would like to kindly ask the miners out there to please switch from dwarfpool to one of the smaller pools.
The reason for this is to avoid monopolization problems such as a 51% attack.

By no means am I accusing dwarfpool owners of anything. I have had a good experience with it myself.
It's just a reminder that, for the network to be healthy, we should go with the way of the precautionary principle.

Here are the best options, in a subjective order:
1. CryptoHunger - pool admined by the coin's dev, srcxxx. https just added / multi core server, DDOS protected / 0.8% proportional fee - fees and donations go to GroestlCoin promotion (!!).
2. CoinMine.pl - the smallest pool, but, from what I understood, with a friendly staff. Give these guys a gand!
3. grs.suprnova.cc - one of the "oldest 3" pools. I have used them without any problems untill changing to cryptohunger.
4. CPU-Pool.net - another big player, part of the "oldest 3". Did not test, but reckon that the ~300 miners currently on the pool are satisfied. They have the second hashrate overall, so they would not need any extra miners.

Happy hashing! Cheesy

just wanted to vote for coinmine.pl
it has little hashrate on grs but is a huge player on other coins like drk and src, super stable (never been down since I've been using it), zero problems and helpful staff.

and why the hell did you quote the whole OP with pictures just to say "it doesn't work"? :-)
4777  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GRS] GroestlCoin, super efficient algo & fair CPU/GPU mining 4 everyman! on: April 17, 2014, 10:02:15 AM
so if i understand cbuchner right its only a matter of time better performing miners on all platforms will be avaiable

it took us longer than a week and lots of debugging to come up with the new implementation. It took some serious brain skillz too. Wink  And no, we don't intend to open source this.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea that mining with a proprietary GPU miner closed to other devs is a good thing. I can't really seem to do it.

I missed the part where you had a constructive suggestion for how to pay for weeks of work by two professional and highly skilled developers. Smiley

Not entirely sure how to respond to this except by saying Im offering a 20k bounty for AMD and thats 0.2BTC on a better day. Id hope anybody developing for GRS would see then potential growth here and enjoy the celebrity such optimizatiosn would make. Also I hope others will add to my existing bounty or create incentives of their own.

It seems to me the argument you make could apply to almost all bounties for all optimizations of new coins.

Obviously I hope devs feel properly remunerated for their time, even if not today then in a month Wink

thanks

I'm an opensource programmer and I program and mine for fun. I get money for programming on my job.
But I also think that everybody is free to ask whatever they want for their work.
There are "professional and highly skilled developers" who program for free (like myself) and bad programmers who ask for money :-D
4778  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GRS] GroestlCoin, super efficient algo & fair CPU/GPU mining 4 everyman! on: April 16, 2014, 12:34:04 PM
so is there a bounty for optimized amd miner? which is the minimum hashrate gain acceptable?

u asking twice allready u have a optimized miner and dont wana share without bounty?

The bounty will be a fraction of what you will be able to mine in a couple days with an optimized miner, so no real interest in it.
I was just wondering because nobody answered the question and everybody is interested in an ARM version instead, which doesn't make too much sense IMHO.
The reason is that most arm devices (phones, tablets...) are not designed to run cpu intensive tasks for long (not hardware-wise: they will overheat and throttle; nor software-wise: the OS might kill the process).
It is a good concept for hashrate distribution, though.

x3 hashrate for 2x power.

It's gonna mean NVIDIA cards prob compete with / outperform AMD for a while…

… I fully expect AMD optimizations to follow when other devs trying to mimic cbuchner's technical brilliance on AMD.

This NVIDIA development will just raise the standard for Devs working on and optimizing mining software. One of the reasons I'm into Groestlcoin is because the algo better suits these sorts of developments than any other imo. This is the sort of news I want for Groestlcoin. AT  the cutting edge of mining!

It'll be interesting to see the market reaction bit I dont see any doom + gloom here.
Just some healthy disruption to the staus quo. I think we're all into that here! Cheesy

yes but if the algo takes more power, it will be just like all the others non-scrypt coins like those based on keccak, for example.
so not special :-)

not true
groestl main advantage isnt power saving
part of powersaving will be lost with optimized mining isoftware

groestl isnt a mixup of as many algos as possible which create more security riscs and performamce troubles than a single algo
we will see x11 x13 xy99 algos poping out like mushrooms

groestl isnt a cryptocoin construkt its a serious cryptografic algo for multi purpose
beeing able to utilized in many hardware/ software enviroments

fast hashrate to secure network without security riscs and a few more months broad coin distribution without asic owner get all the diamonds was our reason to choose groestl

ok but what's the difference with keccak?
"fast hashrate" doesn't mean much: distributed hashrate is what counts.
