Would be nice if there was something like that for GPU miners...

Good job, though!
482  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Selling brand new DVDs for Bitcoin on: February 22, 2011, 09:54:59 PM
I would be interested in them if they were a good price.  I have of course picked up a ton of DVD's for $3 each at yard sales!

I am still waiting for the e-mail from this friend with the list and prices. As soon as I get it I will post the link.

An orange one would be cool.

Does anyone know whether it is possible to connect a fan from ATI 5970 directly to the power supply, by-passing the card? What voltage does it take (max)?

Is this happening?
486  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: I posted a mining video on YouTube on: February 22, 2011, 07:04:25 PM
Excellent! It might be helpful to change the title on that YouTube video to something related to Bitcoin mining.  When I first heard of Bitcoin, I searched for videos about it and would have loved to see something like this.
+1
487  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Selling brand new DVDs for Bitcoin on: February 22, 2011, 05:26:37 PM
I am guessing they would be like 3-5 euro each, but nothing definite for now. Will have more info later. Obviously, I am not talking about the newest releases. Smiley
488  Economy / Marketplace / Selling brand new DVDs for Bitcoin on: February 22, 2011, 04:55:40 PM
I have access to cheap, brand new DVDs (my friend owns a local shop). He agreed to start selling DVDs at no profit for Bitcoins, but not directly (through me).

Would anyone be interested in buying DVDs? (they will more likely by Region 2 since I am in Ireland). Let me know if its worthwhile to bother my friend to make a list. I may even try and set up a shop if there are enough customers.

Cheers.
489  Economy / Marketplace / Re: What options do i have regarding buying BTC from Brazil? on: February 22, 2011, 03:51:15 PM
One option is to find someone who wants to buy something somewhere with a credit card. Buy it for them and get them to give you bitcoins in exchange.
490  Bitcoin / Mining / Fan doesn't start in Sapphire 5970? on: February 22, 2011, 03:03:38 PM
Hi guys, I got a card that seems to have a broken fan (it tries to spin after I apply voltage and stops immediately. This process repeats every few seconds - tries and stops). Any ideas?

Any way to wire this fan directly to the power supply to bypass the card's fan controller?

The card works fine, it is just the fan and I don't want to leave it running for longer than a minute to avoid frying it.

All it takes is a major buyer on mtgox that will buy serveral thousands - then your price will go up again. Smiley

EDIT: If it wasn't for the hassle with getting LR USD I would buy a lot of them myself.
493  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: To those with multi-5970 setups: which mobo are you using? on: February 21, 2011, 02:31:44 AM
I'm pretty sure there is little stress put on the connectors, though. There is room for them to swivel inside the pcie slot, and not bend.

Man, you want to be careful with that. I had a problem with one 5970 once (the fan wouldn't work) so I started moving it left and right within the slot (I thought there was a loose connection) - next thing I saw (and heard) was a BAM! - one of the condensers on the motherboard blew up! The motherboard is damaged now (even though it seems to be working, the information written on the disk is always corrupt), unable to install any OS on it.
494  Economy / Marketplace / Re: I've sold a XBox360 256 Gig for BTC :D on: February 21, 2011, 02:22:59 AM

an hour later, a coworker bought it in BTC, Transfered me BTC live, I've confirm that I was receiving the 230 BTC and called "It's your XBox !"

No need to wait after work hour, go to bank, go pay the stuff..
No need to get taxed by paypal fees

Just fast, easy and free transaction !   Cheesy

Really fine, long life to BTC, hope they'll became usual for everyone !

Later, I'll try to sell something on EBay stating I'm willing to accept paiement in BTC with a link to Bitcoin.org !

Happy to share this here Smiley

I wish my co-workers were using BTC; all they can do is: "buy me some and we will sell them once the value goes up".
495  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: python OpenCL bitcoin miner on: February 21, 2011, 01:51:11 AM
Is there a way to monitor this miner? Like I have it running on a PC in the cellar that I ssh into. Can I check the current hash rates and success rates somehow?

If you scroll up a few posts you will find the answer to my question about the miner sending an email every time it finds a block (and it's accepted). At least this way I know when a block was found. I think the best thing to do would be having some kind of an interface similar to the one bitcoind has (getbalance, getdifficulty etc.) - just having a few of such features on the miner would be cool (gethashrate, listfoundblocks etc.). As for the temperature (you were asking about it in the other thread) it's easy to check it via the aticonfig tool (unless you're using nvidia, I don't know how to do it for nvidia cards). You could have a script monitoring the output from: sudo aticonfig --odgc

The problem with that is when you login via ssh not all features of aticonfig work (they only work properly if you're using it directly from the machine which has the screen connected). I am sure Raulo will be able to shed some light here. Wink
496  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining infrastructure? (monitoring, bitcoind client and so on?) on: February 21, 2011, 01:26:38 AM
So I got poclbm running on Ubuntu, and might already have generated the first block (there was an "accepted" message, but there does not seem to be anything in my account yet).

Now I wonder how to best monitor that mining PC, which will hopefully end up in some cellar soon. So I need remote supervision.

Are there already solutions for getting nice charts of GPU temperature and hash rates? What happens if a fan fails - will the system just stop, or will it start burning?

Since the PC runs bitcoind, what is a convenient way to query it's status. Are there nice clients for bitcoind already? I only made some basic queries with curl now, to check the account balance.

Has anyone looked into it yet? Sounds like something very useful (for me anyway).
497  Economy / Marketplace / Re: 1 BTC = 2 USD on: February 21, 2011, 01:07:11 AM
1 BTC = 2 USD would make me a rich man Wink

I have a feeling that you are about to become one pretty soon. Wink

EDIT: Too bad hippich doesn't offer food and fuel. I am actually in the process of getting my friend who owns a bakehouse to start accepting BTC, so at least I won't die of starvation if I ever wanted to use Bitcoins for buying food. Still, can't be too healthy eating only bread and cakes. Smiley
498  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: BitDroid Network implementation opensourced on: February 21, 2011, 12:59:31 AM
I love the idea! I am in the process of writing a Java program for my thesis right now... unfortunately I had to pick the subject in August 2010 and I found out about Bitcoin in September 2010... so I ended up doing some stupid multi-timer application instead of doing something related to Bitcoin! :/
499  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Where can I buy bitcoins with paypal? on: February 21, 2011, 12:39:20 AM
If you're stuck I would be willing to sell you some Bitcoins at 1BTC = 1USD (this is the lowest price you can currently get Bitconis for on bitcoinmarket.com and I personally think 1 BTC is worth no less than a 1 US dollar anyway).  If you are interested please PM me with the amount. I have a well-established opinion here, you can check the List of honest traders thread or the bitcoinmarket rating.

Cheers.

I would suggest you do a search before you ask a question that was already asked several times.
