alright, you guys got me.. it's a completely useless computer. less than $100.. could probably still be used by someone really power, or possibly as an HTPC.

It can be used as a router, however you can get Dell Optiplex P4s by the pallet - the whole PC - for less than the cost of a power supply.

483  Other / Off-topic / Re: Help me identify this computer I just bought on: January 06, 2014, 05:55:28 AM
that computer is probably worth i'd say maybe.. $130-$150? i hope you didn't pay too much for it.

 Cheesy

That computer is good for one thing, about 1/10 gram of tantalum and 1/1000th ton of scrap steel. Recycling places here that fix up computers give out socket 775 Pentium 4s + only.

1. Socket Type
    Intel 775 - Retain in Pre-test Storage.
    AMD AM2/AM2+/AM3, Phenom - Retain in Pre-test Storage.
    Intel other than 775 (including 478) - Automatic Recycle.
    AMD other than AM2/AM2+/AM3 (e.g., 939, 754, socket 5, socket 6, etc.) - Automatic Recycle.
    Non-Intel or AMD (e.g., Cryix, VIA, etc.) - Automatic Recycle.
    Non-desktop system processors (e.g., laptops, servers [Intel Xeon, AMD 940, etc.], etc.) - Automatic Recycle.

        Intel socket 775 -
        Core 2 Duo - Retain for Testing.
        Pentium Dual-Core - Retain for Testing.
        Pentium D - Retain for Testing.
        Pentium 4 - Automatic Recycle.
        Celeron and Celeron D - Automatic recycle.

        AMD sockets 939, & AM2/AM2+/AM3 -
        Athlon II - Retain for Testing
        Phenom - Retain for Testing.
        Athlon 64 X2 - Retain for Testing.
        Athlon 64 - Automatic Recycle.
        Opteron - Automatic Recycle.
        Sempron - Automatic Recycle.

The power supply was removed to prevent the observation that nothing in the box is a working part.

"It's probably a simple fix" = I fixed several computers and here's all the leftover broken stuff.

Don't forget a little dot in the dead center. Either a pointer could be affixed, or a center point to spin the whole thing. Serving suggestion:

486  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help reading charts on: January 05, 2014, 05:41:47 PM
This type of chart is called accumulated order book:

On the bottom is the price (in this case USD). From the center going left, it shows how many market orders wanting to buy bitcoin at or above that price exist. Going right from the center, it shows how many market orders wanting to sell bitcoin at or below that price have been placed. The height is the number of bitcoins.

This kind of chart can be read as: someone would need to buy 5,000 BTC to make the price 1070 (currently). It also lets you see "walls", prices where large orders will inhibit movement past a particular point.

Don't feel bad, there are also charts that look like this:

so glad I removed my sell orders on stamp that were in the 800s!

I don't get why people put up sell orders, way to risky to sleep with sell orders open!
This is the only way to catch a bounce against the ionosphere.

Please someone replace the brake-pads on this donkey rocket already.
Today I realized there is too much internet:

Move up those sell orders, don't get hit by a rocket to the moon!
491  Economy / Economics / Re: What would happen to the bitcoin price if the FBI take down the biggest sites? on: January 05, 2014, 12:48:45 AM
what would happen if FBI decide shut down the 4 biggert trade sites?
A better question, how would you know what the price is then?
492  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [IDEA] MP3 with Bitcoin Address on: January 04, 2014, 08:19:52 AM
It would be really cool if the artist wallet address was actually embedded directly into the song using an ultra-sonic frequency.
Things that people cannot hear are removed from lossy audio encoding.

There is already id3 metadata where such info could be added to audio files:

Three new alt-coin subforums added = my "show unread posts" is instantly flooded with new scamcoin announce threads. These add nothing to the community, and should be banished. Lock the entire sections, and replace it all with a single moderator sticky to other forums these people set up on their own, and make altcoin talk here against the board policies.

Add those boards to your ignore boards list if you don't want to see them in your unread posts. I actually manually adjusted settings for people who ignored Alt Cryptocurrencies so they would ignore the new subsections. There were only three such people...
One of the members ignoring alt currency is me, and I had to go into "ignore boards" and check the ignore boxes for the new forums - they were not checked. The same thing happens when a new local sub is created.

From the article: "Yet, because marijuana is still illegal under federal law, business owners are prohibited from putting their profits in the bank"

I wonder where those profits will be going then....hhmmmm Wink
The feds still bust mj cultivators regardless if it's all legal under state medical marijuana laws. Even though those powers are reserved for the state by the constitution, and although there was a statement that they won't actively pursue those operating legally under state law. Not putting your money in the bank isn't just the law, it's a good idea.

495  Other / Off-topic / Re: Hard Dice Question [ .01 btc prize] on: January 04, 2014, 03:51:50 AM
Lets view it starting with the d12 - it has a 1 in 12 chance of being any particular number.
Then we need to look at the probability that the two dice will roll a number that matches.
Then we evaluate the probability of the rolls being this match outcome for each d12 case. Then sum.

d12d12 prob2xd6's match probprob of this match
11/120/360/432
21/121/361/432
31/122/362/432
41/123/363/432
51/124/364/432
61/125/365/432
71/126/366/432
81/125/365/432
91/124/364/432
101/123/363/432
111/122/362/432
121/121/361/432
Probability of match36/432

The probability of a match is 8.333% - also 1/12

Hmm I think the thing we're missing is that dice 3 can roll a 1, but dice 1 plus dice 2 cannot equal 1.  So the answer must be something less than 1/12.

I'll say it's 1/13, or 1 in 13 tries.
Wait a minute.  Did OP say there was a prize and then not pay it? wtf?

I sent you ! Thanks !

Oops...

498  Other / Meta / Re: Database errors when replying and general forum sluggishness. on: January 04, 2014, 12:59:29 AM
Coloring the word "ignore" with a darker color when a user is ignored by many people.
I dont see how such a small error can make such a big difference.
If the feature was written as:
-For every thread page of 20 posts that someone views:
 -for every user that posted:
  -look through every other user's ignore list and add up the times that user has been ignored

it certainly could cause server load. If it comes back, it would probably not be a "live" statistic, but one that is compiled nightly per-user.
499  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: TxHash to BlockHash using API on: January 04, 2014, 12:49:01 AM
The first question is - what are you trying to do? The questions you ask likely do not solve the problem or answer the question you may have.

If this is your own transaction in Bitcoin-Qt, you can get information about the block it was included in with the console command:

gettransaction 5602487e624ee14193f646e29a9ac203335bc962b30155b66d142ab15f79018c

{
"amount" : 0.10000000,
"fee" : -0.0001000,
"confirmations" : 3592,
"blockhash" : "00000000000000040e4c97bace0df699cabdf5ef68dce31ed62a07fdcb576e6b",
"blockindex" : 22,
"blocktime" : 1387048657,
"txid" : "5602487e624ee14193f646e29a9ac203335bc962b30155b66d142ab15f79018c",
"time" : 1387048401,
"timereceived" : 1387048401, ...

(fake example information above)

If it is an unspent transaction, you can get the transaction itself, but not information about the blockchain:

getrawtransaction 5602487e624ee14193f646e29a9ac203335bc962b30155b66d142ab15f79018c

Bitcoin does not store a database with more information than it needs to operate, you need to use other tools or a modified Bitcoin to make general queries about other's old transaction information.

You can just put the transaction hash in the front page search box of blockchain.info if you want to find out what block it was included in.
500  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Can block height change ? on: January 04, 2014, 12:35:05 AM
Most of the blockexplorer.com "q" links like the OP, and other functions such as transaction hash lookup, are not working, likely for the exact reason it told you: Most likely my bitcoind stopped working.

The information in the other links is not contained in the blockchain, it is all derived information from the database that blockchain.info runs, including the comments. In addition, the numbers in that URL are internal database numbers that do not correspond with the actual block height, as orphaned blocks also are given numbers.

The transaction you reference can be seen here: https://blockchain.info/tx/114f37f3e30c7d9b5d5339e9a1652f2f065d0413fe34ee1121de0f21a50aaed3

It was included in network block 266559.
