481  Economy / Collectibles / Re: CASASCIUS PHYSICAL BITCOIN - video of redeeming the bitcoin on: January 17, 2012, 08:03:02 AM
hi all (especially the sponsors)

the video is online for your evaluation. I panicked a bit and am not overall happy with the result but here it is for your review and accepting comments. I got distracted while playing with the redeeming part (lot of time passed since the first video was published). I spent some time but do not show in the video how I used pywallet script with a browser and https://blockchain.info/wallet but that might be a good material for sequels. I added the redeem only via mtgox as requested. In the first part I show two different block exploring sites checking the first bits of the bitcoin and that they show the same balance.

If you want I can retry and speak over the video once more and include your comments. Otherwise PM me for contact details.
It was my first video ever. I thought editing would be easier and / or I will use nice effects but now I'm happy it's finally done. Raw but hopefully useful. Again, I welcome 'constructive' feedback and could rework parts of the clip if needed. Just let me know which part is not clear or needs improvement.

Good job.

Two minor complaints.

1) there's no explanation as to where you got the number to enter block explorer.  Watching the video it's not obvious it's printed on the coin.

2) You don't mention the website you're redeeming the coin on.  I can read it in the title bar but it would be nice if there was a better indication.

I'm not sure how it works, but I've seen people add notes to their videos after the fact taht show up as pop-up balloons.  If you could easily  just do that I think it would be awesome.  No need to re-record the soundtrack.

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, you met all the requirements, the above will just get you extra credit.  I'll PM you to discuss the payment of two physical coins.

Comments noted, to be fixed soon (some other night).
As I mentioned this was my first video ever so while I'll improve the synchronization of the spoken commentary with the video I will

1) add the description that the firstbits or address come from the sticker, they are printed on the surface

and 2) add a readable URLs in the video.

I'll see what parts I could remove from the video and work on the font size on the websites so that they are readable also at lover resolution.

Just finished viewing the video. Looks good! Where do I send your 0.5 BTC?

please see PM, I've send you an unique donation address

How do we unsubscribe from a thread topic?
Y'know, Like "Show new replies to your posts" How do we remove threads from there, Like.. Stop following them..
I just cant find the freakin button

my button is called delete post. i press it for each submission i contributed in that forum.
it's only a workaround for the real & missing button but it kinda works.
if your posts were useful, someone quoted you and it's preserved
484  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 20 Bitcoins on Ebay auction - bid at £310 with 30 mins to go! on: January 17, 2012, 02:54:12 AM

485  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help - Sent bitcoins to wrong address on: January 12, 2012, 05:23:34 PM
Yes it is the same address, it just takes ages to update since the wallet has not been used in half a year and is now syncronizing with the network.

then you're fine and as soon as you download the block with the transaction also confirmation count will start rising

Thank you all for your help Cheesy

you're welcome (speaking for all who replied to you Smiley )
486  Economy / Gambling / Re: Dragon's Tale and Seals With Clubs team up... on: January 12, 2012, 05:21:40 PM
When you say "start from scratch" - does it want you do do the bench quest again (find 8 benches), or is the counter on "Kick a bench 20 times" on the seals quest resetting?

it's the find 8 benches part. i found five, searched a statue, shaked a tree, fired fireworks, found next bench and was back at revealing the inscriptions. got distracted while running around Wink
487  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help - Sent bitcoins to wrong address on: January 12, 2012, 04:52:39 PM
Question will this wallet recieve the BTCs I just sent from my account?

only you know where you have the 'wrong' address from. If this is the wallet (check address book), then yes.
If not, search further. when did you send the coins away and can't you tell by the btc amount if this is the transaction you wait for?
488  Economy / Gambling / Re: Dragon's Tale and Seals With Clubs team up... on: January 12, 2012, 04:48:07 PM
it seems that every time i interrupt kicking the benches (play a game in the meantime), i have to start kicking them from scratch
does it happen to all of you?
489  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help - Sent bitcoins to wrong address on: January 12, 2012, 04:46:49 PM
Hmm okay I installed the bitcoin client already and opened it, but I can not find the place for wallet.dat it is all wallet.ccp/wallet.h and such. Sorry I have not been into bitcoin for a while.

depends if windows or mac or gnu linux it is the directory where the blockchain is stored.
something like Application Data/Bitcoin.

you can find out by starting the bitcoin client once. it will create a new wallet. then search the copmuter for wallet.dat and replace it with your backup of your previous wallet.
the new bitcoin clients do a -rescan so your coins should appear if you have the private key / address in that wallet
490  Economy / Collectibles / Re: CASASCIUS PHYSICAL BITCOIN - In Stock Now! (pic) on: January 11, 2012, 01:40:18 AM
work in progress:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iV1seLx-SOY

it's a silent movie so far (showing the medallion, checking the balance using two different web services)
I'm going to peel off the hologram sticker and import it in wallet next. the most difficult part was to finally start doing the video after I got the script.

btw I recommend not to wear the bitcoins in physical wallet, mine got some damage from other coins while wearing it with me. the video was shot a week ago, when I received it, now it has scratches, hope the secret will be readable Smiley
491  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: When exactly does the client generates new keys? on: January 09, 2012, 12:20:46 PM
my best guess is that every time your client uses an address from the "100 addresses pool" it generates a new one.
also when you hit the button 'create new address' it will take an existing one from the pool, make it visible to you and creates a new one which is added to the pool but not to your eyes directly (is not visible in your address book). this way you have always a reserve list of addresses that will surface in the client gui on demand. and if you have to return to a backup wallet which is missing last transactions, you have pretty good chance to recover all your coins as they were send to yourself using the pool and/or if you received any bitcoins to any 'new' addresses, they were in fact already in that older backup sitting in the pool waiting for you to be 'generated'.

i hope some veteran user would comment if generate new address is the same as un-hide an address from pool and attach a new address at the pools end.

and that client generates new addresses for the pool as soon as any of them are used.
492  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Vending Machine video - awesome!!! on: January 08, 2012, 08:50:38 AM
I could not hear, how many confirmations does the vending machine wait before it releases the popcorn?

494  Economy / Economics / Re: Junk Money Party will go on for 3 years on: January 07, 2012, 09:39:29 PM
The ECB model before 2008 was good.

imho partly suboptimal. ECB accepted all government bonds as collateral and this without any limits (as long as the rating was ok)
and this was wrong.

ecb did not distinguish between bonds from countries with low interests (i.e. germany) and higher interest (spain, greece) and since the risk was the same (both accepted by ecb) money went south. easy (not as cheap as in germany but still easy) credit for the governments and there you go, ECB was part of the problem all the time.
495  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Raspberry Pi computer and Bitcoin on: January 07, 2012, 09:19:03 PM
could it be used with FPGA miners?
kind of monitoring them and making sure they're not idling
that would be a killer combination (power consumption point of view)
496  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Willing to pay anything (max 15€) with daopay for bitcoins on: January 07, 2012, 08:23:16 PM

497  Economy / Speculation / Re: You guys need a reality check on: January 04, 2012, 09:24:47 PM
I see too much blind optimism.

Pff.  Whenever I see your name on a post, I just ignore it (I may as well just put you on ignore completely, and you'll be the first which is saying a lot in this community).   You're the biggest bear/downramper/fearmonger/FUD spreader on this forum.

actually it's a valuable life hack to learn who's not worth your time to discuss with.
while ignoring a user don't worry to miss his/her posts completely as some of the stuff eventually shows up quoted by some users you don't ignore in their posts.
498  Economy / Goods / Re: {WTS} ¥500 Japanese Yen coin + 50 Yen coin - 1.6BTC shipped (US); 1.8BTC (Japan) on: January 04, 2012, 12:40:59 PM
I'm interested. please PM me with bitcoin address. Thanks
just to confirm, I send you 1.85 and you send me the two coins? (europe)
I will need to look up the postage rate for standard mail to your country to see if it is the same rate as shipping from US to Japan. Please let me know where it is going so I can check.

I confirm coins arrived OK. nice trade
499  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: EPIC fail on: January 04, 2012, 12:36:05 PM
For the benefit of others, I will repeat as a post:  I am convinced that the USB stick backup would have been good if the stick were properly ejected before removing it at the time the backup was made.  It appears as though it was yanked as soon as the computer acknowledged files having been "copied" to it, but OS's use "write-behind" caching to improve performance, actually pretending the write has completed, but writing the media later instead of making users and programs wait for the physical media to be done.

suddenly life's not too short to remove usb safely
thanks for sharing. priceless lesson
500  Economy / Goods / Re: Buying $50 Amazon Gift card on: January 03, 2012, 10:34:13 PM
hi, I don't know what you were checking but I had a look at the automated service of coincard.ndrix.com
and to get 50$ card it charges 50.50$ (1% fee) and the exchange rate was quoted better then last trade or even bid/ask on gox.
but don't worry this is my last post on the topic, won't bother you any more
