483  Economy / Economics / Re: Best BTC/alt exchange in Singapore on: January 28, 2017, 04:01:52 AM
Why limit yourself to the exchanges in Singapore only? The world isn't as small as you think, you'd prefer to stay in the exchange where volume per pair is overwhelming. Its going to be a lot easy to trade and liquidate once again to store your BTc on hard wallet at the end of the day.

There are Chinese exchange though such as yunbi as far as i know, Singapore still is partly China.

That's so true.

Then again am interested to know who are the prominent players in SG

Who do you think it's the best: Volume and reputation.

Thanks!

Hi guys, since indonesia's electricity price is not the cheapest in the world, are you guys making a profit. From mining?

Am new in Indonesia and wants to see if there's way to get involved in investing in mining.
well

in indonesia just a few people make profit from mining.

because

government fee Cheesy

include import taxes and many other Cheesy

if you want mining in indonesia

you must have muchhhhhhhhhhhhh permission from the government

and place and much more

so the point is

mining in indonesia is not simple

Import tax from the machines?

Cheers
486  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is Ripple? on: January 27, 2017, 01:41:22 PM
Ripple must be getting serious as Bitstamp added them as their first altcoin.

Well they are consistently ranked 3 or 4 in terms of market cap, though their available coins are actually released in advanced hence different from other cryptocoins which we have to mine. Their trading volume should be more reflective and it is not very high.
487  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is Ripple? on: January 27, 2017, 11:12:00 AM
Not about trading but can  someone well informed explain in layman term what Ripple does?

It seems that the banks love it.

Do you know what Stellar is?

i think lumens stellar coin is now not good to trading
this now stellar coin is bad price and still in low price not incraese
is good wait dev incraese development stellar

I totally agree, but I wanted to see if he knew what Stellar was.

But how about this.  If XRP ever goes up in price, I will guarantee XLM gets pumped right along side of it with no new news from the Stellar camp.

Didn't know about Stellar until 5 mins ago.

Now please enlighten me with your point Smiley

Believe me I have nothing enlightening for you, although I wish I did.  I was just starting with the Stellar question since a lot of people signed up for it when it came out.
One of the creators of ripple left and started Stellar, they are very alike.

Googled, apparently the founder was involved in Ripple first before he left to start Stellar. Architecture wise am guessing they could be similar.

So now we have two competing cryptocurrency and who knows there are more.
488  Economy / Lending / Re: Advice: Investing in mining farm on: January 27, 2017, 05:53:32 AM
Was chatting about investing in a mining farm, ~40% return annually and investments is done in BTC.

The guy looks solid and showed me his farm via videocall and he figured a way to somehow get really cheap electricity.

Am thinking of trying out, any advice?

No, mining cannot give you 40%  APR. Pay attention.

Yes it can. Let's pretend I purchase an Avalon 741 for $818. Assuming it isn't a defect (which it shouldn't be, since Canaan has good quality control compared to BitMain), and that the difficulty doesn't change, I can mine ~140$ USD at today's exchange rates every month. Let's say my electricity costs 70$, so I made 70$ profit in a month. 70*12=840$. I'll subtract 240$ to compensate for difficulty increases, and end up with 600$ USD. Now, I can go to ebay or amazon on BCT and sell my Avalon for at least 500$, probably. Now I have 1100$, which is 34% APR. If I try to sell it for higher (probably 600$+), I could make a 40% APR.

Plus maybe some people can operate from places with really cheap electricity (e.g.: China and Malaysia 0.02usd kwj)
489  Economy / Economics / Do we have enough support for Segwit? on: January 26, 2017, 11:12:54 PM
95% miners have to agree, how are they given the choice to "agree" or not? By simply downloading the latest update or they get some voting mechanism in place ?

What if a rogue node fails to agree? Say some node alliance in a country, then what happens?

493  Economy / Economics / Blockchain adoption by banking sector on: January 26, 2017, 04:22:23 AM
For the well informed, can someone englighten on what the banks are doing with block chains?

Is it simply using blockchain to confirm transaction? All looks so fancy.

Take for example the latest report about using blockchain for small business facilitated by banks *

What do they really do?

495  Economy / Gambling / Re: 12% loses since joining satoshidice on: January 25, 2017, 09:09:30 AM
I will give everyone an update a month later and see at where I stand at the bet.

If the losing continues I am highly suspicious that only the real house aka the owner is the one making money.

Also lending to a miners should give you a daily return. If this doesn't happen, i suggest to ask him to repay his debts daily.

Have already committed a very low amount and since will be seeing him in person. Have  a feeling I might regret this, but it's life. Wink

Will keep everyone posted
497  Economy / Gambling / Re: 12% loses since joining satoshidice on: January 24, 2017, 09:28:18 AM
gambling always have risk, in the long run, the house edge will win over the players, this is maths, so the best way is to quit gambling  Smiley

Thanks but you might want to check again, I am betting as the house and the advantage is 1.9%, factoring that mathematically I am almost 14% at losses.
498  Economy / Lending / Re: Advice: Investing in mining farm on: January 24, 2017, 09:26:28 AM
Avoid. This screams scam (to me anyway), as it's pretty suspicious. Are you sure he actually showed you his farm, and not just video footage of another farm or racks of random computers/really old miners? 40% APR is hard to reach with mining, and the fact that he offered an almost fixed rate makes it even more suspicious. The difficulty jumped 16% yesterday, and is expect to jump another 10%+ next change, so his earnings (assuming they are real) will go down. If you must invest in mining, I'd recommend Hashnet

Thanks.

Yeah, he showed me the live video, also mention that if the difficulty surpasses miners' ability to make a profit he will return the money at zero interest monthly (there's a catch here so if the difficulty actually rises a day after I am actually loaning BTC to him interest free for a year)

I can take a weekend short flight over to check out the farms if needs be.

Will definitely check out Hashnet.

How much do you plan on investing, and how trustworthy is the owner of the farm? Considering you are willing to fly over and see, this must be a large amount, correct? Also, what if the difficulty rises a bit so he doesn't make much of a profit, but still a profit? That would be a losing situation for him.

Also noticed that he would be paying "interest" to you, as you didn't state you would get your principal back, so I would encourage you to definitely avoid it. Miners staying profitable after 2 years would be quite a large gamble.

Thanks much.

The amount is not that big, considering that he is not far traveling is ok, and as you suggested, better be careful than sorry.
