4821  Other / Meta / Re: It's been more than 30 days, why is my account perma-banned? on: July 21, 2017, 08:11:32 AM
It's idiotic that plagiarism gets a permaban but blatant scams are allowed...but that's the way it is.  Complaining about it isn't going to help your case.

Copying and pasting is pretty cut and dry whereas scamming isn't always or will require a lot of time and effort from staff to investigate, hence why it's largely left up to the community police. Personally, I wouldn't be against removing blatantly obvious scams or ones that are very likely scams but I can see how that policy would open up a huge can of worms and people complaining why we removed X but not Y etc.
4822  Other / Meta / Re: Should ICOs without blockchains be removed from Alternate Cryptocurrencies forum on: July 21, 2017, 08:06:02 AM
Read somewhere that the SEC has stated they're illegal (no shit) and not to be used by US citizens. I think it's only a matter of time before this forum gets some heat from some sort of scam that was promoted here.
If you classify the tokens as securities, then they are definitely illegal sales.

People can call them whatever they want but it doesn't change what they are. You could operate a ponzi scheme using payment in potatoes but it's still a Ponzi at the end of the day and wouldn't stop people from being prosecuted. With crypto or tokens it just seems to be an easier way of running such schemes and being able to get a way with it due to lack or regulation and the relative anonymity of it but this surely wont be the case for ever.

I wonder whether SEC would put pressure on theymos, as this forum is pretty much one of the mediums facilitating most of these sales (that is, once they start cracking down on them).
I'm sure theymos would comply with any subpoena he receives. I can't imagine his responsibility goes any further than that.
I was thinking more in the lines of: Could or would the SEC force theymos to ban any thread regarding a token sale on the forum.

I think they will issue some sort of warning or threat eventually. I don't know what makes this forum immune from essentially hosting ponzis etc but I'm surprised there hasn't been any heat from them yet (or maybe there has and from a legal standpoint the forum is safe... or we will get into trouble at one point).
4823  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is Satoshi Nakamoto and why does he hide in the shadows? on: July 21, 2017, 07:59:14 AM
While at work today, I've been thinking about who Satoshi Nakamoto could be and why would he keep his identity a secret?

I've thought of three possibilities for keeping his name secret.

1) He is someone who doesn't want to be in the spotlight, because he enjoys his anonymity.

I think this is more likely to be the case. I think it's interesting that he's never moved any of his coins because which leads you to believe he doesn't really care about money, fame or recognition which is rare in people these days. If he was a showman then he likely would have not used a pseudonym or would have revealed himself by now. In retrospect I think it was probably a smart idea to separate or distance himself from bitcoin because there's no central figurehead to attack. I can only imagine the level of hate and threats he would get when people lost money or demand he make changes to the protocol to suit their own financial interests etc. Part of me would like to know who he his and his story, but a bigger part of me think he's best left anon, but if he did reveal himself I think it would almost certainly be a disappointment.

https://www.europol.europa.eu/newsroom/news/massive-blow-to-criminal-dark-web-activities-after-globally-coordinated-operation

So Alphabay is a well known goner. As above the Dutch police took control of Hansa for a while before nabbing as many details as possible and closing it down.

I often wonder about the legality and morality of this (not that they really care about either). Seeing as they're taking in money by allowing the site to operate they're essentially running it and I'm guessing they seize the funds for themselves so seems pretty unethical to me.

Is this going to majorly disrupt dark markets or will it be an endless game of cat and mouse? Is there a decentralised one yet?

It'll disrupt the marketplace in as much as the users will just flock to another one as what happened when alpha bay went down people just emigrated over to Dream and Hansa. When you take a marketplace down at least one more will pop up to replace it and they know this but continue with the charade any way. The only way they'll ever win this war is by legalising or decriminalise drugs or these sorts of marketplaces but can't see that ever happening.
4825  Other / Meta / Re: Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?) on: July 20, 2017, 09:56:47 AM
Hey guys i don't understand how activity count... It said that the maximum activity we can get in two week is 14, but why i get 42 activities in only three weeks? Is that mean it can get 14 activities every week?
Everyone is saying that 'a period' is 14 days. You get maximum of 14 points per 14 days as activity.
But apparently, comrade TropicalDog17 has activity 54, even though he is registered for only 4 full weeks (2 periods). According to "rules" and all that he should have activity 28.

He's actually posted in 4 activity periods. The periods are fixed and do not start when you sign up.

4826  Other / Meta / Re: how does the drafts feature work? on: July 20, 2017, 12:09:26 AM
I don't see any option to post or delete the saved drafts I have. I don't even remember what thread the drafts are from half the time. I'm wondering if this is a browser problem or something, or if this is how it's supposed to function... How do I remove drafts from my list, and can I post right from the draft page???

You just post them by copy and pasting them. I don't believe you can delete them directly but you can just overwrite them by previewing a new post until they're gone.
4827  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Wirex- Bitcoin Debit Card | Buy Bitcoin | Mobile Banking | Send Money on: July 19, 2017, 05:31:22 PM
@hilariousetc
You can have 3 cards in your account in different currencies (USD, EUR, GBP).
Our limits for ATM transactions per 24 hours:
2000 USD/ 2000 EUR/ 1600 GBP (for verified cards)

Ah, so I could just make two £800 transactions right after each other? I don't mind verifying them. How long do the debit cards take to arrive to the UK?

I have a question, would i be able to edit and get my images embedded after getting Jr. Member rank, or just in new posts?

Not sure if I understand what you mean fully. Once you achieve Jnr rank you can post and edit images. You can't have an avatar until you're a Full Member.

Right now if i try to create a topic, all images are converted to links, would i be able to edit my existing topic to include images after i achieve Jnr? Or just in new topics that i open after that

Yes. I believe the images will show up automatically once you achieve Junior Member status.
4829  Other / Off-topic / Re: Job Vs Bitcoin on: July 19, 2017, 03:27:10 PM
Hi, I was wondering if I should quit my job and focus more on bitcoins? Because I think it might get me even richer without a job?  Grin

Ever heard the phrase don't quit your day job? What exactly will you be quitting to doing? Trading? Investing? Signature campaigning? How well are you currently doing with bitcoin? Why can't you do it part time or in your spare time and see how well you do before you make the decision to quit?
4830  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Forum moderation policy on: July 19, 2017, 03:18:58 PM
Your thread won't be deleted. Most rules or laws are subjective and is down to the person who is enforcing them but there was likely a good reason for it being deleted. It could have been a valid response in your eyes, but if the answer had already been given sufficiently or it was in a necrobumped thread then it may/can be removed.
4831  Other / Meta / Re: Should ICOs without blockchains be removed from Alternate Cryptocurrencies forum on: July 19, 2017, 03:13:31 PM
I would support it just for the mere fact it will get rid of shitcoin ICO spam from signature campaigns. Hundreds of users per campaign and not a single check being done about them. It's not uncommon to find 50+ users all belonging to the same person posting away one after the other or copying and pasting content. Getting tired of it.

I think that someone had already proposed something similar recently. I can't find the link though.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2009415.0

99% of the ICOs are useless scams, yes. I wonder whether SEC would put pressure on theymos, as this forum is pretty much one of the mediums facilitating most of these sales (that is, once they start cracking down on them).

4832  Other / Meta / Re: Bounties are corruption. on: July 19, 2017, 01:59:07 PM
I still don't encounter any campaign that forcing their participants to post positive feedback for themselves. Most of the rules of the campaigns requires a "post" any post just to bump the ANN thread and there is no wrong with that as long as the post is not spam and related to the project itself.  Additional pointers. Advertisement is created for spreading positive feedback on the product that they are promoting. There is no promotion that spreads a negative feedback and that is the main reason why advertiser(signature campaign participants) are being paid for.

This should be disallowed because it's essentially a way around the one bump per 24 hours rule and they get to keep their page constantly at the top of the sub with everyone essentially bumping it.

Users are never "forced" to do anything. They are taking money for advertising, and if they don't like it they can always refuse and/or switch campaigns. If they take the job, they're at risk of getting negative rating or a ban. Every time you take up on an offer you have to calculate the risk and decide if it's worth it.

In some campaigns they essentially are. Campaigns such as FortuneJack 'force' people to have x amount of posts in the Gambling section or they wont get paid, hence why we have loads of shit threads discussing every possible league of sport in the world with the most of them started by FortuneJack users: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1713944

betcoin also offers premium rates for posts in the Gambling section so why would users waste their time posting in other sections?
4833  Other / Meta / Re: how to announce if we are a newbie on: July 19, 2017, 01:34:19 PM
we have an announcement to post, but it seams that all newbes have the posts not rendering like it should, what should i do ?

Disclose real name, LinkedIn profile and whatever other information about yourself

We also would like to announce however I am told there is no way to post images, etc. until Jr. Member status.  Is there a credible way to have someone post for us?  Or any suggestion on how to go about this in the best manner?  Thanks for your help.

I'm sure there are plenty of users that will do you it as a favour for free. I can post it if you wish as long as I can put a disclaimer than I'm not associated with your campaign. You could hire someone to post or look after your thread though as you won't be able to edit it.

4835  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Wirex- Bitcoin Debit Card | Buy Bitcoin | Mobile Banking | Send Money on: July 18, 2017, 08:19:49 PM

Does anyone know if I can transfer bitcoin to the virtual debit card then withdraw that money straight to my own personal bank account or is it just for online purchases?

Hi Hilariousetc,

Unfortunately, it is not possible to transfer funds from the Wirex card to your personal bank account.
If you have only the virtual card you can spend funds for online purchases.
If you have the plastic card you can spend funds for online purchases, POS purchases (offline) or withdraw cash in ATM.

Hope this answer will be helpful for you.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

That's pretty disappointing. Is there no way to implement it so it allows direct bank transfers? I need to cash out £1400-£1800 a month but the physical card only allows £800 a day I and don't really want to pay the money in cash every month if I can help it.
4836  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Wirex- Bitcoin Debit Card | Buy Bitcoin | Mobile Banking | Send Money on: July 18, 2017, 08:00:48 AM
Just wanted to voice my issues again here, as it's getting frustrating.
Long story short: I started having problems with transactions wrongly showing, or not showing at all, both on the app and the website.
After many days trying to explain the issue to the support, she said "that's a bug of ours but we will not fix it".
Now it doesn't update at all, it's frozen at some days ago, with many missing transactions (before and after the freeze moment), etc.
This level of service and support is unacceptable, especially by a company who wants to manage your money.

I'm looking for a bitcoin debit card and this seemed to be the one I was going to go for but I've read quite a few bad reviews recently.

Does anyone know if I can transfer bitcoin to the virtual debit card then withdraw that money straight to my own personal bank account or is it just for online purchases?
4837  Economy / Services / Re: Weight Loosing Service - Say Goodbye To The Fat on: July 18, 2017, 07:35:55 AM
yeah but I can type verification text

Well you could, but I personally wouldn't choose a personal trainer (or whatever it is you're offering) based just on a before and after picture, and as other has said there's issues with qualifications and potential clients health issues etc. To be honest, I think you're probably wasting your time offering this service here though, but good luck.

My profile showing my posts 51 and my activity 42.What would be the reason that my posts not converted in activity???Can anyone help me in this matter please.

Why don't you actually do a bit of research and reading? This info is in the op and dozens of other threads throughout Meta. Post count and activity are not the same. You can only get 14 activity every two week period, so that's why they are not 'converted'.

Thanks for your suggestion,I am not able to find one read.If not bothering you can you please provide me a link or guide me where I can find it out???Ok I understand that I can do only 14 activities per two weeks. Is there any restriction on posting???
best regards

It's in the op, but I've already explained it. You can only get 14 activity every two week period. Search activity in Meta and you'll find plenty of threads asking and explaining about activity.

My profile showing my posts 51 and my activity 42.What would be the reason that my posts not converted in activity???Can anyone help me in this matter please.

Nothing is supposed to convert to anything. You gain posts by posting obviously as for the activity, you will gain a maximum of 14 per two weeks period. It's impossible to gain activity If you don't have enough posts. For example, If you have 30 as activity and 41 posts, the activity won't become 44, It will become 41 instead. If you had 44 posts or above, the activity will be 44. In other words, you will gain activity (with a maximum of 14 per two weeks) as long as you have the necessary post count.

Thanks for your help.Is there any restriction on posting anything on daily/weekly/monthly basis???

No, but spamming low quality posts can get you banned and isn't going to make your activity go up any faster. Also, please don't double post. You can edit your previous post.
