On your budget, you should consider a pair of those new S7-LN units, I think that comes in within your budget and a pair of them RIGHT NOW should manage about $8/day - though that is subject to major change when the halfing hits, and some probably significant changes due to difficulty changes.

 They include power supplies.

You're NOT going to want to keep ANY miner in your bedroom, unless you are used to lots of airflow - any semi-current miner generate a LOT of heat, and it's gotta move the air to keep the chips cool enough to keep working.
Avalons tend to be quieter than Antminers, but they also tend to cost more for the same amount of hashpower.

Not sure if I trust Rosewill power supplies (Newegg house brand) since I have zero clue who actually MAKES the things.

Rosewill makes plenty of gaming accessories and such, they're a trusted company. I use them for their PSU'S and whenever I need a cheap gaming headset or keyboard. Smiley Their quality is good, but not a good as, say, EVGA is. Their quality is in the upper middle range. I've tried one of their psus, and they work fine, as long as you don't get their lowest watt, lowest cost psus. Those tend to break VERY easily. Now, for a miner, aim for something around S7 strength. S5 isn't worth using anymore, the days where even people with free electricity using them are gone. They've gone down the drain with the S3 simply because their hashrate is too low and the sound they make is too big. Sure, you can replace the fan, but it's really not worth even buying the miner anymore. B19 S7s (little bit more efficient than the rest, comes out soon) and the S7-LN and any avalon you can get your hands on for less than 500$ is great. I HIGHLY suggest the B19 S7s because of their low prices at 290$(factor in shipping, it gets expensive), or choose a spondoolies-tech. Usually I don't recommend those, but they work well, and even though their time has passed, they are still workhorses and are very cheap. Keep your miner in the basement or an enclosed space far away from your bedroom with good cooling. The basement keeps cool, and keeps the A/C costs low. Don't put ANYTHING near your bedroom except a S3 or a stickminer, because essentially anything else is just a blasting of wind in your ears, and you won't sleep at night. I guarantee that Smiley

4904  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S7 (4.73 TH/s, 0.25 J/GHs) Batch 19 Releases Tomorrow on: June 14, 2016, 11:16:46 AM
Because of increasing demand, we are releasing the 19th batch of the Antminer S7. The Antminer S7 is our most successful bitcoin miner to date and, at 0.25 J/GHs, it is the most efficient 28nm bitcoin miner that is ready to order.

We will start taking orders on https://goo.gl/pJSm6N at 20:00 (GMT +8) tomorrow (15 June 2016).

Regards,

the Bitmain team
.
Interesting move Bitmain made... maybe it was to offset their BM1385 because they had too many? Usually I would guess that they'd make a rackminer, but they kind of have already. Doesn't make sense to buy this either, so I'm truly confused why they even released this. No profit for whoever does. If anything, demand is DECREASING than increasing for the S7. The only people hyped about this are newbies or people with cheaper electricity, and even with that I'd still avoid this miner.
It does have a psu and costs 300$, but still, has to be bitmain being desperate to get rid of BM1385s.

So we pushed up a little bit Yesterday with +11.81% and 161 Blocks. Today Period to Date we are at +5.6%.

The coin peaked at $720 Yesterday, closed at $705 and had pulled back a little this Morning to just under $700. Amazing that 2 Days ago we closed at $675 and only 4 Days ago we were at $579.

Rich

Probably due to a large amount of people selling (can't even call dumping at this point) their bitcoins, because only a month ago it was near 300$. Still, it looks like old miners are being turned on, because shortly before and after the price rose, we saw a small peak of hashrate. This'll probably be normal throughout the days before the halving, then we'll see a huge drop of hashrate and difficulty as old miners become turned off, and because there's just a higher ratio of old miner hashrate than s9 hashrate, at least as of now. Later past the halving,  we'll probably see a return of hashrate as Bitmain's S9's get turned on, but it'll be a slow climb.
That said, I think hashrate will cap or keep a slow climb, so +2.74 = leowonderful is my guess.

i also want to know Cheesy the best mining site Cheesy

I push people at kano.is , but there are more then a few good ones.
Thanks for your sharing i would like to ask if what is the advantage if we find other pool like in your link you given.
the currently i known site is https://www.antpool.com/home.htm
I mean what is the difference?

Only mine with f2pool or antpool if you can not connect to kano.is

do you want a long explanation ?

read why.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1338693.0
There's a shorter explanation, if you don't want to read that much. Antpool and friends mine empty blocks that process no transactions except the 25 BTC given to the pool that mines the block, and so they contribute to full blocks. This means that they are causing huge jams of transactions that can last for days. In addition to that, kano has better luck and lower fees than Antpool, and you're supporting a pool built by one of the members of bitcointalk. Sure, Bitmaintech makes our miners, but they're getting more and more corrupted and I wouldn't funnel in my hash power to them as well.
4907  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Is BITMAIN a trusted source for purchasing mining equipment? on: June 13, 2016, 04:22:40 PM
Buy Directly from bitmain IMO, warranty can become an issue if you get it from someone else.

I have bought 4 S1's and 2 S3's from them , all worked great, no issues.  S1 is still hashing (more so to prove out how much of a beast it is ) about 2 years it's been going.
It depends if you want faster shipping or not. Sometimes I will buy from websites like eBay because they ship from the US, not China, and I'm willing to take the extra cost for saving time. Warranty has never been an issue for me even buying from eBay or Amazon. The only bad thing is, people resell for a higher cost there, and if you're willing to buy it for more, but have a smaller ship time, this is for you.

Bitmain's trustworthy enough that you can safely buy from them, unlike BFL which ended up not sending it's miners at all for many people. For now, it is safe, but watch out , because as Bitmain becomes more of a monopoly this could change.

4910  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will difficulty jump over 200 billion at block halving? on: June 12, 2016, 04:42:22 PM
What's most likely is a fluctuation of high hash days and low hash days as people try other methods of mining. You'll probably see a very wide fluctuation of hashrate and difficulty in the weeks after the halving, with the general direction of difficulty going either down or up. Keep in mind that while gear is being deactivated, the high-hashrate S9 will also be activated worldwide, and overall, hashrate will probably go up. it could go either way at this point, depending if Bitfury releases their new chips (if at all) to a miner maker, if S9 sales go well, if new miners are created. It's very hard to predict anything during and past the halving, and this is no exception. It also depends where the price of bitcoin is, as if it goes above a certain price point, hashrate could spike, but if it only peaks at a lower price point, miners will not create as much hashrate.

4913  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is scrypt the only algo worth investing time and effort on? on: June 11, 2016, 07:14:37 PM
SHA256 mining is just sleeping for a bit - once the S9 comes down in price to around half, or competition starts DRIVING it down, SHA256 mining should take off again.

Keep in mind that previous miner generations were short because miners were playing "catchup" with the state of the art in semiconductor tech - the 14/16nm Full Custom generation as exemplified by the S9 and that Bitfury chip of the videos a couple months back should have YEARS of being "the most efficient" or very close, giving a lot more time to achieve ROI on them as long as your electric rate isn't too high.

Litecoin is due for a major shakeup starting next month or thereabouts, when Innosilicon starts shipping it's new A4 Dominator miners. The last year might look like a bit of a "golden period" of stable pricing, almost stable diff, and good profits even on older gear or at not-cheap electric rates.

I am at a point of looking at focusing on Scrypt miners, or getting some S9s. I'm currently unsure which way to go. Recently, AMD released a new generation of electricity-saving graphics cards, another option. I'm inclined to think that graphics cards have more resale value.

I mine eth coin and I mine BTC.  I was up to 330mh in eth coin miners but I cut back to  150mh to prep for new gpus.

I am mining 16th in avalon6's and s-7's.

I have 3 s-9s on order.
I hold btc
I hold cash

I stay in the 10k to 13k range for all of the above.  I shift from btc to eth to cash.  I go gear heavy to gear lite.
\
AMD's now released its new Polaris architecture, and has a new card priced at 199$ that crushes the R9 390X with benchmarks and has half its tdp (150w vs 275w). Nobody knows the ETH speed of these yet, but because the card operates faster on DX12 than even GTX1080s do (in a leaked benchmark screenshot), I think this'll be a turning point for ETH. Nvidia doesn't do nearly as good of a job ETH mining than AMD, but it does a much better job than the 390X, so much that I think this'll bring decent ROI to whoever buys it at this low a price. If you're going to invest in ETH, do it now; we probably won't have new gpus for a while, and amd's price of 199$ is insane! R9 390Xs will probably be dumped and i'll probably buy some once they go low enough, but for scrypt, go for the Innosilicon A4s that are being released soon.  They'll flip the Scrypt world for a while, and we've yet to see a big Scrypt ASIC be released for a while. Pretty exciting times in non-BTC land.

Thanks very much for your replies, I've understand now.
As I'm a FPGA specialist, I would had programmed something, but even here, the Asics are more powerful  Cry
And the algorithms seems not to be optimizable...

Yeah,FPGA days are LONG gone,at least for bitcoin,I had a few from BFL before their 65nm fiasco back in 2012 or 2013.........  Roll Eyes

I think there is a altcoin or two that you can mine with em,have to use Googlefu to find em  Cheesy

You could try getting a few video cards & mine altcoins, the cards do hold their value fairly well & you can browse this section in the forum to see what's worth mining:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=160.0

You won't make a whole lot in most cases but the power consumption & resale value is better than BTC mining ATM.

And you have a pretty big learning curve with all the diff algorithms using diff mining software to figure out & play with, lots to study & think on  Cool

Video cards break pretty easily with mining, though, and with a broken gpu, oftentimes the only thing you can even scrap out of those is the heatsink. FPGAs do have some coins that they can mine, but not really a lot. Generally, any coin that has some algorithm to stop ASICs will work with FPGAs. If you really do just need a beginner ASIC or GPU for mining and you don't care about its hashrate, check out the AMD series of cards. R7s do the job, R9s do it better. For a cheap ASIC, check on eBay or in the marketplace for Block Erupter USBs. They truly used to erupt blocks, but now their low hashrate and 2w power usage is perfect for learning about bitcoin. I still have a few, and they work just fine. U1-3s also work, are portable, and have a reliable hashrate with more modern ASIC chips. The u3 has the highest hashrate out of them all, with the u1 being the "worst" although a U2 is basically a U1 with a better heatsink. Gekkoscience Compacs are the most efficient miner for beginners, and boast a semi-current BM1385 asic. They're very tunable and use low amounts of electricity and people have gotten them up to 20+GH/S from the base 11 or so. There are many options, but truly if you want a good start with mining, just check out the antminer S9 or S7-LN. They feature the newest ASIC chips, although the S7 wont make you anything and the S9 is still debated about profit.
4915  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Why is all mining not powered by solar? on: June 11, 2016, 06:47:20 PM
Solar mining is not "cheap" in the monetary sense- but it is good for the environment. It's not cheap, and in most places will require a lot of maintenance just to keep the panels running, then you have the issue of batteries and many more things. Solar, in a laboratory environment, is perfect for most people, but the initial investment is so big that you'll probably have lost more money than you've earned.
If you like the environment, hydroelectric is a better option, although there are still environmental issues with it as well. However, it's usually cheaper and in countries like China that have a lot of hydro plants, they have relatively cheap electricity, and most mining farms use hydro for that reason, so it's a pretty good compromise with both.

4918  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 7 on: June 08, 2016, 01:18:57 AM
all of you guys forgotten to mention the MOST IMPORTANT comment or request :

PRICE !

it has to be lower or equivalent to a S9 within the specs range.

TY Avalon team.

p/s : will be replacing & expanding mining ops, 30 x S9's in the plan. If A7 can beat it then I will most likely go for A7

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I saw the A6 as more expensive than the S7 based on $ per TH/s.  Not sure though.  I never bought one.  I would not be surprised if Avalon comes out with a miner that is around 9-11Th/s and .15 J/GH for $1600.

I rather it do .9 watts  a gh.

the avalon 6's could get to .29 watts a gh
the later batch s-7's were .30 watts a gh
the older batch 2 s-7 I have could do .248 watts a th.

if the new avalon 7 could do .9 watts  say 900 watts for 10th better yet 875 watts per 10th it could cost more per gh the the newer s-9 and be worth it.

right now 14000 gh 2100 usd  =  15 cents a gh.

if the avalon 7 was 875 watts 10th  it would be okat at 17 cents a gh or 1700usd

if avalon would sell me 2 for 3400. but they need the specs above and I need them shipped right now.

I would send the coins right now and do a free 25 photo spread on how they work.  and run a no profit for me group buy like I did for the sixes.

Unless Avalon reaches some 0.06w/gh or so, by the time the miner actually becomes released to the public, it'll probably be obsolete. Bitmain is months ahead (possibly) of everybody and EVEN Bitfury will be behind them. This will most likely be a useless miner and have no profit for anybody. If anything, if this is even 0.08w/gh it'll still be a waste of research and manufacturing. Not real optimistic about the avalon 7.

Who knows, by the time this thing comes out, Bitmain could be started on an even more efficient chip.
4919  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bit coin mining hardware on: June 06, 2016, 12:13:46 AM
I have a small mining operation in my apartment. Couple of S5's with free electricity. I like the hashing rate of the S9, but that price man. Even with my free electricity and soon to be halved reward. It would take 207 days (at 12.5 Bitcoin block reward) at a fixed difficulty to break even, according to coinwarz mining calculator.

I wouldn't buy an S9 just yet. Not worth the investment at its current price in terms of how long it would take to ROI.

It no longer is a 90 day ROI sadly, it's longterm investments.   Currently the S9 for those paying for electricity is a great option for after having.   After having many that pay for electricity will have a hard time with a lot of miners to run (likely all speculation).

I don't deny 2k is a lot of investment, as it's a good amount of cash.  But it currently is best option for many.

And that is sadly where risky investments happen too. With severe increases in hashing that will make mining difficulty rise even higher having a much higher hash rate in pools. Therefor your return will be smaller and smaller. And you just have to hope that, either, buying more you have a better chance to ROI or just hope for the best and you don't get killed by your electricity bill in the process and end up mining at a loss. I feel like the best investors for the S9 would be those with either dirt dirt cheap electricity or those who have free power.

With how much the price of Bitcoin has risen the past 2 weeks I would feel like $2100 would be a better investment into coin than into a miner.

For some people the risk of mining is much more fun (for me) and more attractive. Some people don't like sitting on a coin for a price rise, but as of now, it is almost guaranteed that the price of bitcoin will go up substantially after the halving, to a point where you'll make at least, say , 120% roi. With the halving coming on, and coin reward being halved, this otherworldly efficiency will just be equivalent to maybe 7THS today in terms of profit. It's pretty late in the mining world to start now, as people with dirt cheap electricity are taking advantage of their situation. ROI is getting longer and longer to reach, and mining is indeed shifting to large scale projects. This may be the last "good" miner for the average Joe that we'll see - 10 cent electricity and generic A/C.
4920  Economy / Reputation / Re: Newbie trust on: June 05, 2016, 09:53:44 PM
If  someone leaves me a negative feedback then they decide it was unwarranted, is it possible for that person to delete there feedback if so how?

Yep, there's a delete button if you've written a feedback on someone. Negative trust from non-DT members doesn't actually matter that much. Unless they've put a solid proof on the reference link. It'd be more likely that a DT member would also put a negative trust on you and that will make your account completely worthless.

From non-DTs it still matters.
I treat all members the same when judging a user's trust before doing a trade.
A user that has legit negative trust from a non-dt member will be treated in the same way to a person that doesn't!

Did you really read my post? I did say that "Negative trust from non-DT members doesn't actually matter that much. Unless they've put a solid proof on the reference link." Usually the victim just open a thread in scam accusation boards and post the solid proof there. The DT members will then put a negative trust on the accused user. Even if a non DT member puts a negative trust on someone, the trust rating will remain neutral. That's why a DT member is needed.

Yes, but I think that a DT member that posts trust without a reference should have their rating considered similarly to a non DT member.
What you said is true that all members that add solid proof should be considered equally to DT trust scores. However, all DT membermay not give a user direct negative or  positive reputation as a result so this should not be relied upon. Also, it is more likely for people to get negative trust than positive trust so it is harder to judge people based on their trust reputation.
The trust system is very arguably flawed, and because of DT there is nothing balancing "good" and "bad" DT members. Even though, if the DT is DT, then you WILL get red and you will be untrusted. It's pretty bs, but it's life. Most people don't bother to check why they were - repped, so most of the time they get flamed in threads for "shut up you're a red trust person".

And now my part.

If you're going to learn anything in this forum, tread carefully. Don't do foolish things that will get you untrusted. Although newbies are often not trusted and just generally looked down upon with many things, don't let that bring you down. Look around before posting something here if you're unsure that it'll get you in trouble. Even if you do get negative trust, there must be a reason and usually, if it isn't too bad, you can work it out with whoever gave you the negative trust from DT.

You learn from experience, and eventually if you stick around long enough, you'll get the hang of the forum and like it a lot more. It's just getting past the first few ranks.
