Now that would be a cool coin idea for the BOT.  But nope it's not mine  Smiley

502  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][SBC] StableCoin ¦¦ A new breed of cryptocurrency ¦¦ v1.2 RELEASED on: June 26, 2013, 05:53:59 PM
The 1 thing that concerns me.  If I was a developer for a new coin, I would think I would devout some time each day (Especially during launch and when hitting the exchange), but I looked back, and don't notice a single post from Arthos since SBC hit an exchange.  Even after there have been reports that someone is attempting to steal the 1.5 mil premined coins for the mixing service, he still hasn't said anything.  I really hope it is because he is slaving away on his computer getting the Mixing service and Store set up.  But still a really bad time to not be posting anything.

Edit:  Opps I managed to find a post of his, but still not enough to give the people hope of the future of his coin.
503  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Zealots and Criminals, Is no one using bitcoin for legitimate purchases? on: June 26, 2013, 05:31:25 PM
But he is correct.  The biggest problem Bitcoin has right now is the difficulty of getting Bitcoin with fiat, especially in North America (I am assuming).  I hyped my friend on Bitcoin, and he wanted to grab his credit card and buy a few coins right now.  What we found out is if you don't have a miner, you have to go through several hoops in order to actually buy into the market.  I believe North America needs a registered company where you can easily exchange fiat for Bitcoins, and back again.  All anonymity would be lost, but I think that is what gives politicians ect the grounds for saying Bitcoin is only for criminals and Zealots.

Paypal would actually be the big winner if this happened, so I don't think they would be wanting this not to happen, as it would be the easiest way to transfer Fiat into Bitcoins.

In the end my friend never did end up purchasing any Bitcoins to use in the Bitcoin economy.  If we can't make it so even someone that is sold on the idea can't get in, how do we expect others to follow?
504  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Neighbor says bitcoin is a ponzi scheme on: June 26, 2013, 03:26:45 PM
There are many people who believe Bitcoin is a ponzi scheme.  To a point they are correct.  Well sort of.  They are going off the facts that the first people into the game have alot of "valueless" coins, which are pumped up to have a "believed value" of roughly $100 each atm.  The more people invest into the game, the more the value of the Bitcoins are worth.  Here is the problem.  The entire cryptocurrency value is a huge risk.  Looking at the graphs from a year ago, and listening to people talking, alot of people believe the value of a Bitcoin could be as high as a million dollars+.  So they get alot of people pouring their life savings into Bitcoins.  But if something happens to the network, like the US Gov't actually succeeds in taking it down, something random totally screws up, someone 51% attacks it, or if everyone sitting on their piles of Bitcoins suddenly cashs out and the price plummets to a value that miners find themselves turning off their miners because they are losing money due to electricity costs being more than they make.  Then you will be left with nothing, and you can't go back to anyone to get your money back.

Hopefully none of those things will happen, and Bitcoins will take off.  As they say without risks there is no reward.  And people too afraid to take risks will always try to convince others to do the same.   That way, if you succeed, they can't feel bad that they didn't take the risk as well.
505  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is litecoin hyped so much when it doesn't add any value over bitcoin? on: June 25, 2013, 08:52:33 PM
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=196138.0

Here is 1 good reason why Litecoin is needed.  Bitcoin already admits it is not a preferential coin for small transactions.  If Bitcoin ever did become the million dollar coin everyone would like it to become, your morning coffee purchase would not be able to transferred due to it being dust.  LOL at people who figure Bitcoins can be down to the satoshi level.  If/when the bitcoin network gets even busier, they will have to knock the dust down to an even larger factor.

Another reason Litecoin might be hyped is because it's not Bitcoin.  That can be a huge bonus right now while the US Gov't seems to have the Bitcoin network as it's main target.

If Bitcoin was worth a $1M then the dust threshold would be 1 satoshi (or roughly 1 US cent).  The dust threshold is a function of the min fee miners accept.  If miners are willing to accept transactions paying a 2 satoshi fee or less then the dust threshold would be 1 satoshi.

The min fee for low priority transactions is actually higher (in terms of purchasing power) on LTC network.

BTC min fee 0.00001 BTC = ~$0.01 USD
LTC min fee 0.1 LTC = ~$0.26 USD

Actually you're behind a bit.  LTC min fee dropped a week or so ago to 0.02 LTC still not as low as Bitcoin, but a notable difference from 0.1 LTC.

The guy received his, then dumped it on Ebay shortly after.

I like the Bot name alot, but picked the Cap name due to it sounding more like the game the coins are obviously named after.

A Post apocalyptic digital currency.....   Say's it all  Smiley
508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][SBC] StableCoin ¦¦ A new breed of cryptocurrency ¦¦ v1.2 RELEASED on: June 25, 2013, 07:48:00 PM
A person would think when you released a coin, you would do alot of the back-up work to get it up and going right away, but if you watch all the coins being released lately, while some are fair launches, most of them haven't done much work aside from copying the Open source code and making a few changes and then waiting weeks/months for the coin to take off, and then start building things for it.  This is one of the reasons I switched to Bottlecaps at the current time.   That currency has only been alive for 1-2 days, and on the first day they had a facebook page, raffle sites, fountains, gambling sites, and even a store or 2 accepting it right off the bat.  It also hit Cryptsy within a day of being launched, and was/is trading 30X higher than SBC is.

I hope SBC can surprise us with an announcement of the store and mixing service and everything else going live soon.  And I really hope the store is larger than a Steam code store.

While Bot may make some people think Botnet.  To me it sounds like a currency of the future.  Maybe one day we will be purchasing our cleaning bot or sexbot, or Chauffeur bot with BOT coins   Grin
511  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What Litecoin means for Bitcoin (and crypto in general) once it's on Mt.Gox on: June 25, 2013, 07:22:47 PM
Don't need much more proof than this that Alt-currencies will needed in the future.  Especially if Bitcoin ever takes off.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=196138.0

Also, another added benefit of alt-coins are the fact that they aren't Bitcoins.  With the US gov't having Bitcoin as their latest target, every transaction is going to be scrutinized and there will be more and more sites being shutdown for using/accepting Bitcoins.  Who knows, if they become desperate enough, they may just 51% it to take it out right away.

512  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptsy down? on: June 25, 2013, 07:16:03 PM
Yep down for me as well.  Guessing yet another DDOS attack.

And they wonder why Crypto currencies will always have problems taking off in the mainstream.  Idiots like this who constantly DDOS everything for the fun of it, or for profit.

Not that I know of yet.  I think the dev is working on getting the store up first.  Haven't heard from him in a while though.

I don't mind your design digital, but I would prefer it to just say CAP, or maybe Digital CAP.  That 1¢ addition just makes it look cheap.

I think that's why they named them BOTs instead of CAPs.  The currency (especially from the description on the website is obviously from Fallout) but they don't want to copy it so closely that Bethesda would have grounds to go after them, if it ever came to that.  Also why they changed the logo to not quite look like it came from the game.

516  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What Litecoin means for Bitcoin (and crypto in general) once it's on Mt.Gox on: June 25, 2013, 12:35:19 AM
Bitcoin has already won, you idiot.

Bitcoin is still in it's infancy. If bitcoin wins you'll notice it by price going to hundreds of thousands of dollars a coin. Bitcoin still can be killed.

To be true, I think Bitcoin and all current cryptocoins will stay what they are. An experiment. There is no way top 1% will accept some computer
geeks, especialy liberitarians and anarchysts, becoming new wealthy class. Those at top right now will do everything in their power to stay there.
Bitcoin and all current cryptocoins will not be killed or overtaken but made obsolete by global currencies mandatory on every step, controlled and
tracked by elite.

Thank you though for doing a business accepting bitcoin. I also accept bitcoins for coding services I provide, and I'm not going to ever accept Litecoin.

Bitcoin Megastore does not accept bitcoins since it is part of the CafePress which does not accept bitcoins. It helps promoting Bitcoin though.

Wow finally something we can both agree on.  And I have said it many times already.  There is no way that Bitcoin will become the all out defacto World currency, even though that is what a lot of people on this site seem to believe.
517  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What Litecoin means for Bitcoin (and crypto in general) once it's on Mt.Gox on: June 24, 2013, 02:59:54 PM
Ok lets say you are right then why do newbies and crypto beginners like the idea of owning some LTC then ?

Except for very few people, cryptocoins are nothing more but yet another "(Eventualy) Make Money Online" deal.

I agree that Bitcoin users are infact very "get rich quick" in their thinking.  And the big reason they are worried about alt's, incase one really takes off and effects their money making venture.  Which is one of the reasons I started mixing it up a bit.  Alot of the alt crypto's are more for the ideas of innovation and having fun than worrying about trying to make a quick buck.  Heck the alt I started mining yesterday "Bottlecaps" is based on Fallout 3 currency.  I like some of the things they are trying with this new coin.

PoW Scrypt with PoS has 1.5% per annum
Block Time: 60 seconds
4hr Difficulty target time
Reward: 10 coins per block until the end
Coin cap: 47433600 (9 years)
Block confirmations: 5

But in the end, I doubt it will net me any money.  But it's all for fun, which is 1 thing the Bitcoin market seems to have forgotten about.

Bitcoin users should actually embrace the altcoins.  Since they are a big testing ground Bitcoin can't take chances on.  Who knows maybe one day some Alt-coin code will help innovate Bitcoin to make it more useful for day to day transactions (Like buying a coffee at a Starbucks), which would help Bitcoin become more easily adaptable as a World currency everyone seems to want it to become.

All this fear and hatred from the Bitcoin users seems to be kind of like a Major league sports team knocking the kids playing in the little league games, because they aren't as good as them, and telling their parents that they are idiots for wasting their time watching them play.
518  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][SBC] StableCoin ¦¦ A new breed of cryptocurrency ¦¦ v1.2 RELEASED on: June 23, 2013, 03:27:26 PM
Wow your right, I don't see it on there either.  Which is odd because they still have Elecoin and American Coin, which both have single miner type hash rates. Stablecoin is back up in the 65 MHash+ zone.
519  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TO MANY COINS!! (choices, choices, choices) on: June 23, 2013, 02:43:01 PM
I recommend not to keep switching form 1 coin to the other just because they are seen as making more then others at the current time.  And also don't just jump to whatever anyone else tells you.  Take your time, and read the announcements.  Each one is different.  Find a coin that you believe the developers have a great idea or innovation.  And see if the developers come off as great people, or total jerks (There are a lot that are very high on themselves).  Then based on what you read, start mining for that coin.  Or you could stick to the safe Alt coin - LTC.  It's not going to make big waves, but it will be around for a while since it's by far the biggest Alt coin market.  With a single 7970, I don't recommend you try mining Bitcoins, as you will not make much at all, and as the ASIC miners continue to be shipped out, you will eventually be paying more in electricity bills then you will gain in what you mined.
520  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What Litecoin means for Bitcoin (and crypto in general) once it's on Mt.Gox on: June 23, 2013, 02:28:08 PM
I think people are crazy not to see the benefit of alt coins.  It's all a matter of greed that some people push to have just 1 type of coin.  Sure it might not exactly have a niche market etched out yet, but that doesn't mean something won't come along.  I think everyone can agree that Bitcoin is not going to make inroads into the fast food/coffee shop market due to the speeds of transactions.  LTC probably won't even make ripples in that market.  But since the dream is to have the entire world economy to switch from fiat to crypto, then only an idiot would think that only 1 coin can do all that.  Alt coins could act like a personal wallet (Fiat you carry with you, not talking Bitcoin personal wallet) or store card (Like my re-chargeable Tim's coffee card) does now in the current economy.  Bitcoin could hold the majority of people's currency (Like a bank does now), and people could switch a few satoshi's over to the crypto of their choice when they go out to purchase groceries, or get that morning coffee.

Plus different pools of people working at getting different ways to get crypto accepted by the masses can only help crypto be accepted, which would help Bitcoin in the long run.  Or whatever crypto takes over as the dominant one.  It's quite funny to see a large group of supposedly technologically advanced people stumble on the idea that innovation is bad, and if the original product is unhinged as the top, it would mean the entire system would collapse.  I can't think of a single innovation in recent times when something was created and kept as the defacto standard, where no person/company added something to make it better.  And I think that is the reason that people deeply ingrained in Bitcoin don't like the alts.  They are to busy worrying that some innovation will eventually take out the coin they put so much money/time into.
