There are exclusions to the EU right to withdrawal!

Quote
3. Unless the parties have agreed otherwise, the consumer may not exercise the right of withdrawal provided for in paragraph 1 in respect of contracts:

- for the supply of goods or services the price of which is dependent on fluctuations in the financial market which cannot be controlled by the supplier,

- for the supply of goods made to the consumer's specifications or clearly personalized or which, by reason of their nature, cannot be returned or are liable to deteriorate or expire rapidly,

You can mine litecoin or other alt coins with PC and graphics card (look for AMD ones with the high number of stream processors)...

..see www.p2pool.org for a list of coins..

..but Bitcoin requires ASIC hardware now to beat electrical costs.
503  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: iMine.org.uk - New e-shop selling mining hardware! on: January 27, 2014, 10:50:32 AM
When we registered the domain, our iMine title wasn't for certain so we didn't want to pay out for a more expensive domain, when we may soon change it. - & Bitcoin is partly about anonymity, so we didn't feel having our direct details on show was the smartest of ideas.  we are a small team, and an unregistered company and we have stated the longer shipping times to cover international orders..  We appreciate due to the nature of the business, we could appear to be a scam but would like to stress, we are legitimate. (We'd appreciate if our past customers would back us up!) - Also, due to no entries being made for the logo competition, we will be extending the closing date to the 3rd of February.

Quote
Competition: Design us a new logo!

Due to the criticism we have received over our choice of logo, we are holding a competition where you can design us a new one..

We would prefer if the logo was similar to our old one and used the same basic colours throughout.

[ Our shade of orange: #fb9b08 ]
- May be animated,
- PNG / GIF preferred.
- roughly 200 x 200 px

We will pick the winner on the 3rd of Feb, who will receive a choice of prizes (physical/non-physical) and announce which design we have picked via this thread / our news page.

Entries can be posted in the thread below or PM'd to us.

You cannot "stress" you are legitimate, you have to demonstrate it. Personally, I pay no heed to "private WHOIS info", but I do worry when someone running a business wants to remain completely anonymous and has no business entity formed. Every business in the UK has to have some kind of business structure for legal / tax reasons. Are you in the UK at all?

This is not true. You can trade as a sole trader in the UK. This means you are personally liable should someone sue you, but most people setup a LTD company so only the business assets can be sued. You don't have to register for VAT unless you have turnover more than £79,000.
However having looked at the domain registrant info I wouldn't trade Bitcoins with a PO Box company as it's a way to hide their identity.

504  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: is Cryptocloudex.com a scam? on: January 27, 2014, 10:23:41 AM
Hidden domain name registrant details is a good sign it's probably going to be a scam.  Wink

Registrant Name: WHOISGUARD PROTECTED

I wouldn't send wire transfers or Bitcoins to any anonymous company.
505  Other / Off-topic / Re: A House vs Apartment vs Land vs Hotel Room on: January 27, 2014, 10:03:54 AM
Bought both my house and the land it sits on so I can pass it on to my descendants.

In the UK we have something called freehold and leasehold.

It's kind of a scam the rich have, if you don't own the freehold (your land), your house passes back to the land owner when the leasehold runs out.

Not many people who by houses here know that!
506  Other / Off-topic / Re: I want to enjoy 3D movies. on: January 27, 2014, 09:33:49 AM
You can do it low tech on any screen with RED/BLUE glasses.

There's plenty of test videos on YouTube (play this one at full screen it's awesome!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SVbzkdHcdU

But to do it properly, you need a 120Hz TV/Monitor screen and polarized glasses.

You can now get laptops with it built in.

Or upgrade a PC with a Nvidia graphics card that supports 3D.

507  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast BabyJet users thread on: January 27, 2014, 12:40:29 AM
FYI, the cronjob (/opt/minepeon/etc/cron.d/5min/hfupdate) on BJ sends hashfast the following info:

wallet public key
internal IP address
uptime
cgminer options (e.g. your overclocking settings)
and whatever is in /opt/minepeon/etc/hf.txt (firmware version)

So they know if you voided your warranty by overclocking it?  Wink
If they can send that data home they will also know your Internet IP address.
508  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: ASICminer cubes and blades, obsolete? on: January 26, 2014, 10:52:16 PM
As long as it covers your electric costs its still profitable.

Hopefully the Bitcoin price is about to break out of this $1000 range, which might help us poor miners out.

I have no idea why people buy Butterfly 65nm and Cubes instead of 55nm Bitfury miners which are 25GH/25W normal and 45GH/70W overclocked (w/heatsink & fan).

I've got 270GH mining on 415W on cruddy 83% efficient PSU.

The Bitcoins it produces are worth 40x my power costs.
Always remember mining profit = how much you can beat your energy bill (not how any bitcoins you can make!)

I Like Technobit!
My HEX16B miners arrived on time and are working properly. I hope my pre-production HEX8A1 arrives on time as well.

510  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 26, 2014, 04:40:11 PM
Is www.kncminers.com a fake web site? No HTTPS/SSL certificate, hidden registrant, and points to a different IP.  Shocked

Noticed it while investigating CTSminer 3TH miners https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=429513.500

yup, been watching it myself;
over $118k - as BTC prices rising today

If you're an American victim the FBI does take wire & mail fraud seriously when it goes above $100k...

..they extradited BFL's Sonny from Italy in 2007 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=110805.0) in case anyone missed that one..  Wink

..but the chances of finding these guys or getting your coins back is slim to none, if they were pros, they did everything behind a web proxy, located somewhere the US has no jurisdiction, and sat in a web cafe with open wifi.

The cts website had https by comodo ca ltd

Edit: Actually, is it worth contacting comodo.com to see if they can reveal who paid for the https services on ctsminer.com website?

+1
I'm sure that would help with police investigations, please post the response here. (thread being monitored)
Phoenix or someone who has been burned needs to contact comodo and let them know they need the info for police. Comodo must surely have a fraud department?

the more info we can dig up and post on here the better IMHO

Sadly they seem to do something really dumb for a verification certificate company.
90 days free no documents SSL! So I doubt they can help track them down.

Hm, I have no idea why but http://www.kncminers.com/ shows me logged in with all my personal details, order history + items that I left in the basket on the original site.

Always look for the HTTPS verification from a trusted third party.
There should be a HTTPS padlock that says..
"Website: www.kncminer.com"
"Owner: Kennemar & Cole AB"
"Verified by: Thawte, Inc."

I know what to look for, but how does it show all of my personal info if I have never logged in?
I believe it's because of cookies, which came from the original site, but somehow apply to this one too.

Anyone who logs in on a fake site gives the bogus site their username and password which they can use to retrieve your details I guess.

Let me repeat myself: I have never logged in on that website, yet I am logged in.

I cannot even open the shopping basket my browser tells me it's not secure.

Same thing here.. Card was undervolted and running 76C core temp.

Quote
75C- 77C. Open crate rig. I don't think it was a temperature issue.

In the last image I can see balls of melted solder.
This is an indication the temperature reached 180 and 190 °C (360 and 370 °F) at some point.
The thing being on fire is a temperature issue! Get a thermometer gun. Wink

hmmmm...is the kncminers.com site above a ripoff of kncminer or just another reg domain by the legit kncminer

(clueless on all this spy vs spy whois stuff)

Searing

The registrant is hidden, it goes to a different IP address, and it doesn't have the "Kennemar & Cole AB" HTTPS verification, so my guess is it's fake clone site.

This is probably why KnC won't let anyone change their order address because there is a chance people logged into the fake site and gave them their username and password!

519  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: what's the most efficient mining hardware available? (bachelor thesis) on: January 25, 2014, 09:21:56 PM
The one used in most mining farms during 2013 was Bitfury/BioInfoBank 55nm chips they run at 25GH for 25W per blade (16 chips) but can run faster if you put more power to them and add cooling BitBurner Fury got them up to 52GH.
http://www.bitfury.org/ and http://www.bitfurystrikesback.com/ and https://megabigpower.com/ and https://www.asic-hardware.com/

They just sold a $5million contract to some investors. http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20140123006299/en/CoinSeed-Invests-5-Million-BitFury-Bitcoin-Mining#.UuQrHPvLe00 in 2014

But that was not the first one also see the BioInfoBank 100TH Mining Farm Project https://picostocks.com/businessplan/19.pdf is from 2013.

If you have any sense you will write your dissertation about whether the BioInfoBank 100TH mining project reached it's investment goals as it's set out in a clearly defined business plan that you can critique it with hindsight.

Hashfast and KnC have delivered more efficient 28nm products, but KnC limits production runs, and Hastfast is too new to know reliability (arrived this week).

BITMAIN will be on Chinese New Years holiday for 2 weeks.

If you try to avoid import duty by declaring lower value this kinda shit happens.
