461  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Multi PSU Rig - System on one psu or do I need to cut risers? (Sanity check) on: January 31, 2014, 05:31:59 PM
Each motherboard slot or powered riser is 75W (the power riser is to help out un-powered 1x PCI-E slot motherboards)

Each 6pin PCI-E is 75W

Each 8pin PCI-E is 150W

add 100W for your CPU and other bits, if you're CPU TDP is higher add that instead.

You need to know the +12v power rail for each power supply. If they are single rail it makes everything so much easier. Don't overload any rail.

6pin+8pin graphics card in a 16x motherboard slot is 75W+150W+75W = 300W

6pin+8pin graphics card in a 1x slot riser is 75W+150W+75W = 300W
462  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Why people buy not profitable hardware? on: January 31, 2014, 04:52:58 PM
I think most people just lazy and just don't do the math.

There are some though that will pay more to have a miner in hand now, gambling on mining a profit, rather than wait 6 months on a pre-order list.
463  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: p2pool not paying out? on: January 31, 2014, 04:39:47 PM
P2Pools pay per block.
You get 3-5 payouts a day typically, of virgin bitcoins.
However! You need enough GH to get over the 0.001BTC dust level or you will never see your payout!
With Bitcoin that is about 15-20GH! P2Pool recommend 40GH.

If you run for 24hrs and see no payout you probably don't have enough GH, although it could just be a very unlucky block that day if you do have the GH.

You can find a list of P2Pools at http://p2pool.hostv.pl/ just use your bitcoin address and no/any password (some clients won't mine unless you type something).
464  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How long have you been mining & what is your current hash rate? (+ bonus Q's) on: January 31, 2014, 04:24:45 PM
Just checked my Bitcoin address and I've been mining since Oct 2012

Started on graphics cards. A mix of 6770(died pretty quickly), 5830s (because they were cheap) and 7850s (because they were power efficient) I was part time mining and part time gaming.

I gave up mining Bitcoin in June 2013 because it came unprofitable due to ASICs and switched to Litecoin.

Came back to Bitcoin Nov 2013 buying 270GH of ASICs expecting to mine early December, but they didn't deliver 5/6 until January which ruined my ROI plans. Angry Unlike other people buying Avalon/BFL I gambled on Bitfury staying in the game longer because it was lower power.

I've got another 520GH of Bitmine A1 chips on order for delivery mid Feb. Lets see how that goes.

Made 8.8BTC with GPUs, blew it all on ASICs, ROI only 1.6BTC so far, but 2/3rds not mining yet.

465  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Why is p2pool as small as it is? on: January 31, 2014, 03:02:54 PM
You don't have to set up a node!

Just point your miner at a node IP address and add you bitcoin address!

The reason it's small is because it's new and it pays out per block which means you need a decent amount of hashing power to get above the dust threshold to see payments arrive. P2Pool recommends 40GH for Bitcoin, but I reckon 15-20GH should work.
466  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: You agree that Bitcoin mining is a NO GREEN act? on: January 31, 2014, 02:47:46 PM
No, a hard currency like Bitcoin is pro-environment!

Why? Because fiat money relies on the constant growth of debt.

Without increasing populations, increasing consumerism, increasing inflation and increasing debt, the debt backed fiat system fails.

This is bad for the environment because it encourages people to consume more than they need or require.

We're at peak oil, going forward will be a deflationary environment, this is a perfect environment for a hard currency based on the price of energy.

Bitcoin's mining effort makes the transaction more secure and fairly distributes the coins to those who help build the transaction network.

When people say "easy coin" they mean "less secure coin". When they say "pre-mined" they mean "un-fair advantage"
467  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bitfury ASIC sales in EU and Europe on: January 31, 2014, 02:29:12 PM
Is there any chance we'll see bare chips back on sale any time soon?

I heard a rumor there would be a Bitfury 2 chip end of Feb (read March).  Wink

468  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: MR3020 Flashing with Technobit Firmware on: January 31, 2014, 02:23:44 PM
can I ask when you use the MR2030 do you still need to run a proxy for the avalon 2 HEX16?

No proxy required on Linux/MR2030 it's the best option as it's only 2W compared to what your Windows PC/Laptop uses.

Do note the Wifi is disabled, to save memory, so you need to use the network cable to communicate with it after the firmware upgrade.
469  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales NEW STOCK ***NOW SHIPPING*** on: January 31, 2014, 02:15:59 PM
Did Hboard price go up or down for both Version?

The prices have been the same for a few weeks although the discount for 10 V2.2H boards is gone now.  And no rigs for sale, just boards.

The European side has new stock http://www.bitfurystrikesback.com/shop/ if anyone is interested that side of the pond. I don't think they ship to US but maybe you could get a friend to buy and ship for you.

471  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Technobit HEX8A1 - 6/8 chip Coincraft A1 board on: January 31, 2014, 12:27:39 AM
Yeah, but at 1499 Euros give me a break! The ASIC chips retail for around 560 Euros for 8 of them, so that's a crazy mark up.
I see boards on their site with far more components and way cheaper.

849Euros would be a more realistic price. Lest face it, the Coincraft Desk 200 sold for way less than 1499 Euros.

I agree they should have been aimed for a price point of €995 to get enough demand but on the other points...
Do Bitmine even have a working board yet? Martin's does with mining screen shots to prove it.
Do Bitmine sell the Desk 200 anymore? No, but Martin does sell a 200GH+ miner.
How long is the Bitmine pre-order queue? March week 3? Martin says he can ship Feb 10th.
Time is money, if your mining you can make more than the price difference back, if it arrives on time!  Roll Eyes

472  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: £500 to spend on equipment, what to buy? on: January 30, 2014, 09:14:58 PM
What about the Block Erupter Cube 30ghs

Block Erupter Cube 30GH(220-250 Watts) or 38GH(320-350 Watts)

is no comparison to

16x Bitfury 25GH(25-30W) or 45GH(60-70W)

they use 8x more power and will be unprofitable to run 8x sooner.

When are the new 28nm gonna come mainstream

KnC 28nm Saturn/Jupiter was out Oct/Nov 2013 275/550GH (300W/600W) £3k/£6k 2nd hand, no longer taking orders (building a 20nm 3TH model)
HashFast 28nm BabyJet 400GH (400-420W) just started delivering last few weeks, suspended taking orders (4 batches already)
CoinTerra 28nm TerraMiner IV 1.6-1.7TH (1900-2100W) just about to deliver, $6000 still taking orders for May delivery.

Hmm, I would suggest SCRYPT mining instead of BTC mining with that ammount.

Like mrugala says, think about building a gaming PC and mining Litecoin instead when your not playing games on it.
473  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: £500 to spend on equipment, what to buy? on: January 30, 2014, 03:09:21 PM
There are no 28nm for £500 miners at the moment.

If you want to mine right now, I'd look for some second hand 55nm Bitfury stuff, it's cheap, and power efficient, 1GH/W@25GH-0.65GH/W@45GH.

These are new prices..
Bitfury 25-35GH cards £243/€295 http://www.bitfurystrikesback.com/shop/ (needs an M-Board €99 and a Raspberry Pi €35 too to get started)
Bitfury 40-45GH £410/€499 http://technobit.eu/index.php?id_product=59&controller=product&id_lang=1 (I recommend using the TL-MR3020 router €35)

I'm mining with this right now, it makes me about 40x my power bill, even if the new stuff is twice as efficient it should still make 20x my power bill in the future, as long as Bitcoin prices are similar (around £500/€600 per BTC).

If you don't pay your power bills you could mine with any high GH/s miner.
Though technically it's theft, someone is paying that bill, and you're extracting their wealth! Wink
474  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Black Arrow LTD: Order #XXX Prospero X-1 and Prospero X-3 delivery delays on: January 30, 2014, 02:35:33 PM
It was pretty obvious they weren't gonna make February without a tape-out in December.

$3/GH is what other manufacturers pegged for April/May also.
475  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Technobit HEX8A1 - 6/8 chip Coincraft A1 board on: January 30, 2014, 01:35:09 PM
Nice work.

Do you think it will reach 260GH or will it be a bit short?

The 2 bad chips are probably down by 30%/10GH each = 230-240GH if they were 100%

I'm not bothered if they are a few GH out just as long as they are stable and you can ship them 10th Feb I'll be a happy bunny!  Grin

Hello Martin,

I asked speedy about my shipment #6xxxxxxxx and they said:

In order this parcel to leave Bulgaria today, we are waiting for and additional document Proforma Invoice.
If the sender provide it today, the parcel will leave Bulgaria today by schedule, because he gave it to us yesterday and all international parcels leave on the next working day.
If the parcel leaves today, you should receive it around Tuesday or Wednesday – next week.

would you be kind enough to get this done by today as I want to start mining and get back as much BTC as possible.
Sorry for that ,
WE missed to give proforma with the sending as far the order was without transport and was to be picked by your transport service

Best Martin

can you do that today so that it will be on its way to my home?
sorry, I didn't quite get this statement, do I need to do something from my end in order to receive this package??

Proforma invoice is needed for exporting/customs I think, if they missed that the courier might not accept it.
The €4 shipping fee is for boxing and collection by your own shipping agent or "larger orders".
Check your e-mails if they need money for shipping they should request it there.
If it ships out you should get an e-mail that it shipped out, though it may not have a tracking number, mine didn't.
The web order system will change from "payment accepted" to "shipped".
If they made a mistake they may ship it free of cost, they did that with my late orders, that should have been part of a "larger order" that had €32 postage paid on the first item.

CLOSED
Sorry, the store is temporarily closed for maintenance.
We expect to reopen within 1 hour (19:00 HK, 11:00 London, 05:00 Wyoming)

Ok, but it's been more than an hour. Did someone forget to take the sign down? Tongue
478  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Gridseed Asic Miner Preview on: January 29, 2014, 08:49:42 PM
What's the point? If I was gonna spend $2000 on an ASIC I'd buy one that mines Bitcoin!  Wink

Litecoin will just die if it becomes ASIC only.
479  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What I Think Is Going On With Miner Pre-Orders on: January 29, 2014, 07:51:44 PM
but.. but.. they'd have to make room for the new 28nm stuff by selling their old 65nm stuff first... oh...

https://products.butterflylabs.com/homepage/250-gh-s-rack-mount-bitcoin-miner.html

we make the market, you cannot blame anyone but yourself, if you buy pre-orders!

One dollar, one vote! You bought it, you voted for it!

Marto74

I may have missed this but what's your advice on the PSU to use? What's the max # of boards per suggested PSU?

Thanks

Use single 12v rail psu, 80 plus gold, platinium or titanium
do not put more than 10A on a single molex cable ( you may put more but their a not designed for high current)

Hex8A1 uses 2x 6-Pin PCI-E connectors. Estimated power draw is expected to be 260GH/260W.
I will use 2 cables for that (not one with two outputs)

As long as the power specs don't change too much...
BOTTOM END (£38): EVGA 500W PSU, 2x PCI-E, and a single 40A/480W 12V rail, should be able to run 1x Hex8A1.
MID END (£72): Corsair 650W CS650M PSU, 4x PCI-E, and a single 51A/612W 12V rail, should be able to run 2x Hex8A1.
TOP END (£308): Enermax Platimax 1500W PSU, 10x 6+2 PCI-E, and 6x 30A/360W 12V power rails, should be able to run 5x Hex8A1.
