Ok thanks

Ok I followed the link above for Pyrus for Ubiq and I clicked on the green connect to ledger wallet and nothing is happening  Huh

<...>
It is there: https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005459725-Ubiq-UBQ-

I just tried it by doing this:

-   First I updated Ledger Live, since there was a new notice when I opened it.
-   Then go to Menu -> Manager.
-   In the search bar, search for Ubiq -> The 1.2.10 version of the app appears and is ready to install providing you have space.

During the process, it asked me to update the BTC and ETH apps, since it required them (probably shares some libraries). I had to uninstall another app to get Ubiq on, but it worked eventually.

Note: It would have been better to create a new topic.

Oh ok the link above says I gotta use a 3rd party interface that is Pyrus to manage ubiq tokens on the ledger nano device right, meaning there's no dedicated account for ubiq on ledger live?

I have ubiq installed on my ledger nano device but what's the point if I have to use a 3rd party interface for it?
503  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Proof of Keys Event for a Beginner? on: September 24, 2019, 10:15:20 PM
Hi need help for Ubiq altcoin.

i downloaded the Ubiq app to nano s device but I can't find the corresponding ubiq account to add in ledger live  Huh
504  Economy / Exchanges / Any of these Exchanges have been....? on: September 24, 2019, 06:42:31 PM
Any of the following exchanges apart from cryptopia has been hacked or considered a scam within the last few years or speculated to be a scam for the near future?:

- yobit
- hitbtc
- nova
- coinexchange.io
- livecoin
- trade by trade
- bit-z
- gate.io

Which ones do you guys think that will still be with for years to come and will help traders affected by hacks?
505  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which of these exchanges shall I sign up to? on: September 24, 2019, 06:31:44 PM
Does location of headquarters determines the exchange credibility?
I know it sounds discriminatory, but I think it's a pretty fair statement--obviously different countries have different laws, and in some of them those laws seem to be quite lax.  It's probably why Yobit has gotten away with so much crap in all the years they've been operating.

I've never used any of the exchanges you listed, OP.  I don't know how much you plan to trade or if you're going to be using fiat currency, but you might want to try some of the more legitimate exchanges like Binance, KuCoin, Poloniex, and the like.  I think they service people globally, and you can probably get away with no KYC if you're not trading with fiat.

I think I tried to register on Upbit because they were the only ones who had a coin I was interested in, but they wanted all my dox and I didn't think it was worth it.  I don't think they're a scam exchange, but I couldn't say for sure.  You're not a newbie (unless your account is purchased), so just remember to never keep your funds on any exchange for any length of time.

Ok is there list somewhere showing these legitimate exchanges & It's only legitimate if they serve globally?
506  Economy / Exchanges / Which of these exchanges shall I sign up to? on: September 24, 2019, 04:35:02 PM
OkEx - island of malta off Italy
Huobi Global - Signapore
HitBtc - Huh?
Upbit - South Korea
Hotbit - Huh?

Have I got the above locations correct and where is hitbtc and hotbit are located?

I understand these are centralised exchanges meaning risks however looking for an exchange with minimised risks.

Does location of headquarters determines the exchange credibility? For example an exchange in Switzerland or Germany will have to follow tougher regulations of that country  or if the exchange gets hacked there's a compulsory legal process or compensate scheme regulations after the hack to reimburse the customers. Or tougher punishment laws for owners of these exchanges depending of the country etc.

Whats up with location malta for Binance the world's biggest exchange? Why malta? I can see it benefits the exchange but does the location benefits the traders? Is there like a exchange that balances both the trader and exchange when it comes to risks?

What's the latest status on decentralised exchanges now, are their volumes catching up?

Hey yes I tried connecting my ledger nano but get error on mycrypto site:

TransportError: Failed to sign with Ledger device: U2F DEVICE_INELIGIBLE

Using chrome, will internet explorer work and be safe?

The best option now is to use Ledger Live, which supports ERC-20 Tokens now
https://www.ledger.com/ledger-live-securely-supporting-erc-20-tokens/

You can download it from ledger.com website and manage your ERC-20 tokens from there, no need to use Mycrypto or myetherwallet anymore.

Great is there a guide on how to use this directly on ledger live?

Hi is there like a video tutorial on how to use MEW with ledger nano s?

Becausing im using a web browser will it be secure to use or am I required to download the fido u2f app on nano s for 2fa security when visiting these sites?

Hello. Yesterday I moved some tokens from my ledger and I couldn't use myetherwallet. I used mycrypto and it was much better

This is the tutorial from ledger website
https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360008268594-Set-up-and-use-MyCrypto

Most likely because you're using the software and hardware in a way that it was never designed to be used... and, somewhat unsurprisingly, you're getting unexpected results. Like I mentioned a while back... trying to use USB devices with virtual machines can be problematic due to it essentially being a software emulation of a physical hardware interface.

Having said that, I am able to make it work on Ubuntu 16.04 VM, but running on a Windows 10 host. It could be something as random as a latency issue due to OS version or drivers etc preventing the process from working properly.

Have you tried opening Ledger Live, then connecting the Ledger Device, unlocking with PIN and then selecting Bitcoin app on the device BEFORE you select "add account" in Ledger Live?

Yeah i tried that but still no success.
510  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S usability questions on: May 29, 2019, 10:54:57 PM
Alright just to confirm linux virtual machine or windows 7 wont run smoothly with the ledger live app and you get problems such as usb connection issues etc.?

Windows 7 definitely doesn't, because it is not supported.

A linux virtual machine seems (at least in your case) to not work properly with the nano s.
You can't generally say that you WILL get usb connection issues with with your virtual machine. But since the OS on your VM is supported and your nano s is not broken, it seems like the VM is the point of failure.

To get it work in linux I have to do a proper boot of linux not in virtual? I thought virtualbox linux virtual machine is like a proper linux with no difference between a proper bootable linux?

Your linux in the VM is a proper linux.
But the host OS (your win7, but doesn't matter which OS) handles the 'forwarding' of the USB connection to the VM.

It is an encapsulated machine with interfaces being managed by your host OS.

A regularly installed linux would have direct access to the USB ports and therefore no 'middleman' which can mess up something.

Is there anyway or tips or tricks I can do to get the linux virtual machine working like a proper linux?

As mentioned, it is working like a real linux itself. The problem are the interfaces. Or more precisely: the management of the USB interfaces by your VM software / windows.

However, i believe it should work in a virtual machine.

Just to confirm, did you update the udev rules on your virtual machine ?
Check https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005165269 under "Linux" on how to do this.

Im sure I did the udev rules thing otherwise how did I manage to update the nano s successfully via usb previously on linux virtual? Why is it that just the adding btc account/opening up the btc wallet doesn't work and everything else works on linux virtual?

Ok great I use anything that is official mentioned by Ledger themselves.

Just to confirm before I go to mycrypto I require to download the tool app fido u2f onto the ledger device correct?
513  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoins long term Hodling sorting help on: May 28, 2019, 12:36:15 PM
I don't know what is the value of those coins and tokens (or, maybe, how much did you invest), but, I will tell what I am doing, maybe it helps, although there's a chance that some will say it's a bad advise. It's up to you what you do with your money, though.

So.. I also have some coins and tokens. More than half of them have already become worthless too.
The ERC tokens stay on my ETH wallet. I check now and then with ethplorer.io, I consider them centralized enough. I'll use a (proper?) wallet only when I'll transfer any of them to exchange.
Most of the coins (the ones with small value) stay at an exchange. If anything happens with them, it's not the end of the world. I even sold this way some of them before falling too much (yeah, not really hodling...)

I kept some 5 coins I hope they'll give me nice returns someday as "the main investment". Those stay safely, where possible on paper wallets or offline sticks.

So I still have quite some fragmentation, but since I've classified the assets, it's not as bad as yours.

What proper wallet you use? How many erc tokens can you store on a single eth wallet and what are the best eth wallet. I have ledger nano s.

ethplorer.io gives the latest news for each erc-20 token?

Which 5 coins your hodling?
514  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S usability questions on: May 28, 2019, 11:27:51 AM
Congratulations on successfully updating and repairing! Smiley

Ok I remember when I bought the ledger nano s device couple of years ago it came with a pre-installed app called fido u2f. What is this app and shall I download it?

This is an application for 2FA.

This basically is a hardware token (comparable to RSA secureID tokens).
This is way more secure than using a 2FA application on your mobile.

Whether or not you want to use it, depends on you.

What other apps from ledger manager store that are not coin specific wallet apps? Like for example recovery check app is a tool not a wallet coin app.

You can check this site for all available apps.
Scroll down to the bottom to see non-wallet applications.

One example would be OpenPGP (useful if you are using PGP).

Under device settings>security>passphrase> what are these 2 settings: set temporary and attach to a pin?

Attach to pin:
Will create a second 'ledger account'.
You then will be able to login either with your first or your second pin, each of those two generating a different set of private keys / addresses.

Temporary:
Creates a second 'ledger account' for just one session.
This is basically the same as above, just that the information are not stored on the nano s.
You will have to enter your passphrase each time you want to access this 'temporary account'.

Ok... Im experiencing a new problem now and that is adding accounts in the ledger live app. I can add ethereum account but i'm not worried about ethereum account as I had 0 balance in that anyway however I worried about bitcoin as I can't seem to add btc account, the problem with the btc account is showing on my monitor it says connect and unlock your ledger device in which I do and get a tick then when it says navigate to the bitcoin app on your device in which i follow and do it goes back to the connect and unlock your ledger thing again which keeps spinning forever and nothing happens and cant access my bitcoins! I tried disconnecting usb and connect usb again but still same problem.

I have the latest versions of the apps.

Is there known bugs in the latest ledger live 1.9.1 in regards to btc app?

In which OS ?
Your linux VM ?

Did you add the USB-filter "empty" to catch all USB devices ?

Ok when you say passphrase do you mean the 24 word seed?

Which tool apps you recommend to download for a average user like me? Im kinda worried on how much storage does the device have to install all these apps.

Yeah its linux virtual machine and yeah i added the usb empty filter. What could the problem be?
515  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Altcoins long term Hodling sorting help on: May 28, 2019, 01:54:00 AM
Hi,

I separated these altcoins into 2 lists, can I kindly ask to check whether I got the following lists right:

Altcoins that are not erc-20: (which multi-currency wallet support these coins and if there's no support then that that means I gotta download a individual wallet for each?)

- stakenet
- bitcoin gold
- dnotes
- espers
- experience points
- verge
- revolutionvr
- shift
- xel
- gamecredits
- ubiq
- nexus
- digitalnote
- ethereum classic
- digibyte
- syscoin
- lbry credits
- siacoin
- tron
- signatum
- gulden
- apex
- maidsafecoin
- quantum resistant ledger

Altcoins that are erc-20 tokens:

- mobilego
- bytom
- civic
- matchpool
- wax
- bela
- golem
- 0x
- stox
- all sports
- nexo
- bancor
- iconomi
- sonm
- monetha

I been Hodling these above altcoins bags from January 2018 and yeah I know I have had huge losses since then  Shocked however since Jan 2018 till now I don't know which of these altcoins are declared scams (no hope left in them) or which coins has been forked (which fork is favoured by the community) or which coins have been swapped to a new blockchain/version?

Can I kindly request you to find out which of these altcoins have been affected by this?

I fear that I could have lost even more money just simply by hodling them long term without checking the latest news for each as I was away from the crypto scene for a long time and just coming back into it to check my bags.

Much appreciated,

Ok there's 4 altcoins that I need help clarifying on whether they are erc-20 tokens or coins?:

- Apex (cpx)
- Bela (bela)
- Maidsafecoin (maid)
Coinmarketcap say these are tokens but cant see blue ticks in the etherscan site for these. Huh

- Quantum resistant ledger (qrl)
coinmartketcap says this is a coin but showing as a erc-20 blue tick on the etherscan site. Huh

I have no familiarity with any of these coins, so take what follows with an appropriately sized grain of salt. It is based on 10 minutes of looking in to these projects for the first time.

Apex (CPX) - https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/apex/. This seems to be a token on the NEO blockchain. You can find this information by clicking on "Explorer" on the coinmarketcap page, which will lead you here: https://neotracker.io/asset/45d493a6f73fa5f404244a5fb8472fc014ca5885

Bela (BELA) - https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/belacoin/. This seems to be an ERC-20 token. Again, follow the "Explorer" link to go here: https://etherscan.io/token/0x2e98a6804e4b6c832ed0ca876a943abd3400b224. It maybe doesn't have a blue tick because it is such a small coin that it is yet to be verified by Etherscan, I'm not sure.

MaidSafeCoin (MAID) - https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/maidsafecoin/. This appears to be a token for their own network, entitled SAFE. Read more about this here: https://safenetwork.tech/

Quantum Resistant Ledger (QRL) - https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/quantum-resistant-ledger/. This is currently a coin, but used to be an ERC-20 token. As I stated above, some projects start out as a token to allow them to cheaply raise funds, and then later transition to their own blockchain. It seems that this is what has happened in the case of QRL. More info here: https://docs.theqrl.org/tokenmigration/guide/.

Ok great thanks.

Ok how do I send different types of ERC-20 tokens under the ethereum app installed on my nano s?

Just Go to MEW myetherwallet.com/
Click on hardware wallet option.
Open your ethereum app on ledger device.

Click on the coins you want, and send them. Using web browser on mew.

Hi is there like a video tutorial on how to use MEW with ledger nano s?

Becausing im using a web browser will it be secure to use or am I required to download the fido u2f app on nano s for 2fa security when visiting these sites?

After a over a month of tension I am glad to say I got it fixed now Smiley

In Linux virtual machine the ledger live app had a prompt on screen today to update app to version 1.9.1 in which I did 1st then afterwards the app automatically suggested repair on screen and I clicked on continue to repair and it was all sorted and fixed running latest 1.5.5 firmware now and during the whole update process the 24 word seed wasn't asked for as this is really inconvenient to enter word by word letter by letter.

Thanks for all your help and if I need further help I be sure to check back here.

Ok now I need help on clarifying on something:

- While I hold the nano left button while plug in the USB I get the Bootloader message on nano s screen.

- If I don't hold the left button I get the following message instead on nano s screen Follow device update instructions, the device MCU must be updated.

So as you can see above there 2 different messages on device screen depending on the left button being held or not.

Now the main $64,000 question is which option do I select under repair your ledger device in ledger live app:

- Bootloader?
- MCU not genuine?
- Follow device repair instructions?

I fear if I select the wrong option I may really brick my device.

So far my experience with ledger hardware and software is not so good and this will not go down well with new crypto beginners coming into the crypto world and if there is truly to be world wide adoption of crypto where hardware wallets are like personal secure banks then this complex troubling experience has to go from hardware wallets 1st.

Is it a coin or token
Apparently both...?

I have never heard of this project, given that it is tiny and has next to no volume. However, it seems to have existed for at least a year and have its own blockchain as per their website, specifically: https://stakenet.io/faq/#why_are_there_many_cryptocurrencies_what_is_the_difference_between_a_coin_and_a_token

However, it also seems that about a month ago an ERC-20 token by the same name was launched. I can't find anything about the ERC-20 token online, whether it is linked to the coin of the same name, whether it is a scam masquerading as a known project, or what.

So to answer your question, pick a larger and more reputable project, haha.

Is it possible to be both though?

<…>
Stakenet XSN is a Coin. If you follow the info on CoinmarketCap on the left, you’ll be taken to the original website and Bitcointalk Ann thread.

The entry on Ethescan on the other hand points to what looks like a bogus ERC-20 token created on the 23/04/2019, which has just a couple of token holder addresses and TXs. The reputation on Etherscan states ‘Unknown’, which is the default value for any created ERC-20 token  there (see the little icons shown in the "profile summary" area). It bears no official site link, no social media channels and no market value.

Ok the Etherscan site is complicated because when i type in a altcoin in the search box on that site I get like 10 results for the same coin and don't know which one is official. How do i know which one from the results is official or shall i stick to coinmarketcap to find out whether its a coin or token but coinmarketcap doesn't say which type of erc it is.
