Back to the actual site, bot cheapmining and antminermarket are scams, the first is from the same network as cryptominersoutlet (clear hint on the page but I won't mention it since it makes it easier to track them)  and the second one is another design I've seen a few times but seriously there are just too f* many to keep track of them all.
Yep, that's one of the problems with what these accounts are seemingly doing, as there are real victims of those sites and it sucks to pretend to be one just to get few merits (if that is the reason behind is). It would be the same if they just reported this site as a scam without adding the story that doesn;t add up.

I noticed that one too but didn't want to mention it because it was registered on different that, but M.O is the same. By the way, another account showed up with yet another scam accusation about mining equipment site. Registration date of that account is 2 minutes apart from the one you mentioned. Go figure.

5003  Other / Meta / Re: Good enough of a system? theorycrafting on: February 11, 2021, 08:28:52 AM
So then they'd have to constantly downvote me on almost every post, and if you were to check the history, you'd see that it very much looks like I'm getting targeted even tho my posts might not be deserving of that mass downvoting. So once again, it can be detected very easily and it would require them a lot of work to target some guy and downvote him.
They won't care whether it's detected or not, they will just do that because you busted them for some wrongdoing and at that point they don't have anything to loose. And problem with your suggestion is that it doesn't have any mechanism to prevent abuse, which will happen for sure. We've seen it many times, scammers leaving negative feedback to those that busted them, but since they get excluded from other DT members their feedback is irrelevant.

What's stopping some high ranking member to leave a negative trust and say something like:" excessive spamming" or something like that without the ref post or any proof. Same thing would happen, as in your suggestion.
Leaving negative feedback for spamming is generally not the proper use of trust system. If someone abuses that constantly chances are he will get excluded from DT. I don't know if you read i before, but I suggest you to check LoyceV's Beginners guide to correct use of the Trust system. Even theymos said that LoyceV guide seems reasonable.

5004  Other / Meta / Re: Good enough of a system? theorycrafting on: February 11, 2021, 07:15:44 AM
Downvoting would be a little different. Since there are probably a lot of people that are higher ranks from before the merit system, it wouldn't be that great to give them that much power to shut someone down, so let's say that there would be a threshold where when you get enough of the downvotes you lose merit (maybe something like 0.5) but if you get downvoted by a legendary or some other higher rank, you'd lose merit when you get downvoted regardless of the amount of downvotes you have or do not have.

I don't think that introducing downvoting that can lead to loosing merit  would be a good idea. Rest assured, if something can be abused here on bitcointalk, it will be. For example, let's say that you caught group of high ranking scammers/cheaters, they can easily retaliate and make you loose the merit. Would that be fair?

So if someone posts something really useless or copy/pasta reply, he can get downvoted enough not to lose merit but to think about what's he posting next time. Like a small slap on the wrist.
You can achieve the same if you report useless posts to mods. Chances are spammer will think twice before posting crap when he sees his useless posts constantly getting deleted. Every once in a while we get someone opening topic about his posts mysteriously disappearing, so they do notice that.

5005  Other / Meta / Re: Some german guys keep sending merits to each other for sig campaigns on: February 10, 2021, 09:32:05 PM
I finally left the negative feedback because the user has publicly spread lies about my person several times in several threads. If this seems to be inappropiate I would like to know from other DT-Members how to deal with such a user.
Imho it's not the best way to use negative feedback as some sort of retaliation. If I am you, I would just leave him neutral feedback, put him on my distrust list and forget about him. No point even arguing much with him as he provided zero proof for his claims, just an empty talk.

Well, see the insane merrits he has received on December 17, 2020 by qwk for more or less generic posts

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=2744352
People are free to share the merit as they please as long as they are not selling them or sending to alt accounts  and you provided absolutely no proof of either.
5006  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2021 NBA Season on: February 10, 2021, 05:27:40 PM
Nah, thanks.  Cheesy I am still a Nuggets and Mavs fan whatever happens.
Of course, it will always be the Nuggets first.
Jokic won't just stop impressing me. I hope Murray hits his head and goes back to the way he played during the playoffs against the Lakers and Clippers so that they could end this losing streak.
Fair enough Cheesy. It must be very frustrating  for Jokic to see others playing like crap while he is on MVP level, it was obvious last nigh when he called out Porter for that stupid contested 3 point attempt. He still has two more years contract with them, but unless they don't win the title in meantime I wouldn't be surprised if he moves as it would be a shame if player of his talent ends up without winning any NBA titles which might happen if he stays with them.

Jazz has good chemistry but IMO they are still not the championship team for me.
Yeah they look very good at the moment but they are still behind Lakera and Clippers,  mainly because they don't have MVP caliber of player on their roster, and I don't remember last time some team won the title without having one. Maybe Pistons back in 2004. Mitchell might become one if he continues to develop (e.g his 3 pts shooting went from 36% to 41%) but for now he is not there yet. But who knows, we saw big surprises like Mavericks winning the title in 2011 so one can hope.

They do have very well balanced roster: 4th best offensive rating, 3rd best defensive rating, most 3 points made with 2nd best %, 1st at rebounds etc. Big part of being able to have such a deep and balanced roster is the fact that they signed some very good players cheap, like Clarkson who is on 4 yrs / $51 mill (dirt cheap for most lilkely best 6th man in the league) , Bogdanovic (20 ppg player) 4 year / $72 mill and add on that Mitchell who is still on rookie contract.
5007  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: cheapmining.net review for fraud || FRAUD ALERT || on: February 10, 2021, 04:40:35 PM
Thank you for your reply and I'm sorry that I mislead you but I was prepared two accusations for scam and I got them mixed up, inadvertently posted the wrong one.
If it wasn't you I was going to get shamed here.
Thank you again !
Wait a second, you shared your experience and @CryptoYar realized that your story doesn't add up, you just deleted it and made new story? Let's see what you wrote before

Cheapmining.net is fraudulent website and I was scammed by them !

I wanted to buy miner for ETH and I saw this website in the web which is advertised and I went to check what they have. I immediately was seduced by their prices which were incredibly low.
I saw the new Linzhi Phoenix miner which was on sale and it was in stock so I asked some questions and placed my order without hesitation. So I waited more than 13 days because they told me that the time for the delivery is from 10 to 20 days.
After the 20th day I went to the website and I wanted to ask where is my miner. I wasn't answered, waited one more day just in case if there some trouble with their customer support and tried to make contact by phone number, surprisingly their phone was out of reach.
I tried everything to get in touch with them but unfortunately I can't.
After this incident I made a research and its kind of my fault that I didn't do it earlier.. I saw that they can't have in stock these miners and the price for sure can't be so low.. I got in touch with the official maker of those miners and they told me that Linzhi Phoenix 8gb does not exist and I have been scammed..  unfortunately I already knew that..

This wasn't pleasant for me but I didn't get robbed by much.. Its better to warn you until its time that CHEAPMINING.NET ARE SCAMMERS

Stay safe guys and don't be seduced by the cheapest offers you see, like me.

By the way, is maybe your 2nd scam accusation this one antminermarket.com review for SCAM [SCAMMERS] !!! [SCAM] made with AL1baba account?

Odd thing about you and @AL1baba  is that both accounts are made within few minutes and both of you shared today stories about being scammed by sellers of mining equipment.
CaveWithCoints  Date Registered: December 08, 2020, 09:11:55 AM
AL1baba Date Registered:    December 08, 2020, 09:26:08 AM

Another interesting thing is that both of you made first post week later, few minutes apart, and later on continued chatting between those two accounts in various threads.

Has it really happened that you have waited 13 days? While the website is only 2 days old according to the domain information below.
I have a strong feeling that OP might be just making all this up, for god knows what reason. Maybe merit fishing? Who knows...
5008  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: FreeWallet locked even Elon Musk. I still don't trust them. on: February 10, 2021, 10:20:24 AM
Elon may be trolling them and may not even have any accounts with this company. It is hard to believe someone who claims to believe in bitcoin for such a long time is using some poorly created web wallet for his billion dollar worth of bitcoins!
Just because he (supposedly) has Freewallet account doesn't mean that he used them for storing billion dollar worth of bitcoin. Since they have tendencies of confiscating people's funds, I have no doubt that they would exit scam already is someone is crazy enough to use them for storing such a huge amount of BTC. Then again, Musk even if he has account there, he should listen to his own advice and avoid them at all cost.

I do agree that it is hard to believe that anyone would use Freewallet when you see how they treat their users, but for some reason people still do, unfortunately.
5009  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2021 NBA Season on: February 10, 2021, 08:46:35 AM
Who would have thought that Jazz will be the first team to reach 20 wins? I certainly didn't and based on the poll results, no one did either as they didn't receive a single vote. We all knew they are good  and well balanced team with deep roster, but I didn't expect them to be ahead of the Lakers & Clippers.

Last night's win vs Celtics was their 5th in a row, so maybe @Reid was onto something when he asked can they repeat previous winning streak that was ended by Nuggets. It will be tough though as in the next 5 games they play Bucks, 76s and 2x Clippers and Conley is questionable as he missed last two games.

So, if anyone wants to jump on the bandwagon ( Mavericks fans maybe? Cheesy) here is the form:

5010  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I messed up and feel terrible about it on: February 09, 2021, 12:49:54 PM
If you want to get it back, you don't need to wait the price falls back to $37,000. Of course, it is the perfect chance but if it won't happen, yuo have another way. Wait for price peaks and buy back with dips with the price difference about $500. Do it several times, and you can get your bitcoin amount back.
In theory this sounds very easy but since OP is obviously not an experienced trader ( otherwise he wouldn't make this topic) chances are good that he ends up with even less bitcoin than he would have if he just buys back with the loss (which I don't suggest btw).

Afterall, OP sold it at the all time high so even  from that point of view it's not a horrendous mistake.

5012  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I messed up and feel terrible about it on: February 09, 2021, 10:27:23 AM
I don't know if its any comfort, but all traders experienced what you are feeling now (myself included, even though I am not trader, at least not anymore.)

Important thing now is to try calm yourself down, as just because btc continued to go up it doesn't mean it won't go back to those levels at which you sold ever again. As a matter of fact, I would be really surprised if that doesn't happen.

Lesson for next time: just keep hodling if you cant take the stress. Chances are you will end up with more bitcoin that way as you won't panic and buy back at the higher price, which many beginners do.

5013  Other / Meta / Re: This shitty Merit System has ruined Bitcointalk and made it like Facebook on: February 09, 2021, 10:06:55 AM
Here is a good example. This user wrote a good review/summary of a project 2 days ago.

No interest at all.
No reply at all.
No merit at all.

Until I just saw it.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5315277.msg56305712#msg56305712
Looks like that post is copy/paste from reddit, here is the original that is posted 3 days ago (that makes it older than btctalk post) https://www.reddit.com/r/binance/comments/ld49ej/sparta_on_binance_smart_chain_the_next_snx/ so unless @Books4sale509 is behind that reddit account, this is nothing but a plagiarism case.

But generally you won't see many active merit sources in altcoin section and that's probably the main reason why even good posts there often go unmerited, or receive way less than posts in other boards, which is not a surprise as name of the forum is bitcointalk.
5014  Economy / Speculation / Re: Apple is buying Bitcoin on: February 09, 2021, 08:22:00 AM
News are coming that Apple is going to buy cryptocurrency.
I am sorry but I couldn't see that from the article you shared so please change the title of your thread as its misleading and kinda clickbait. It's just about speculation what would happen with Apple stocks if they decided to add cryptocurrency services to their wallet and that "Apple could supercharge its move into the crypto industry by buying $1 billion in bitcoin for itself, the analysts said, adding that it could attract more users to its Wallet-based exchange and likely lift bitcoin's price".

After news of Tesla investing 1.5 billion USD in bitcoin we are going to hear similar speculations about other top companies, building up a hype.

5015  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Have I lost my Bitcoin??? on: February 08, 2021, 09:33:52 PM
Uhm that seems fishy to me OP. Have you checked if you're really vising https://www.blockchain.com/explorer ? Make sure you're not opening any shady link because if I understood that right they are asking you for the 12 word Secrey Private Key then they are asking you for your PRIVATE KEYS. As soon as they have that they can literally get all of your funds and you will be left with nothing OP!
When you click on "Need some Help" option, blockchain.com indeed asks for your "Secret Private Recovery Key Phrase" if you can't remember the password in order to access the wallet, you can check on the link you shared.

They give me one other option; to reset my '2FA device'. No idea what that does, but have sent a request anyway, and await a response and see what happens. They say it could take up to 2 weeks. What a palava!  Tongue
That's an option you are using when you lost access to your 2FA device so you can't log in to your wallet, for example if your mobile phone stopped working and you had Google authenticator on it.
5016  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Serbian nationalist to be sued Over $70 Million Bitcoin Scam on: February 08, 2021, 10:41:38 AM
Persecution of fraud requires regulation and funding. I don't know the exact state of cryptocurrency legislation in Serbia, however, in case there are no regulations there won't be persecution of this type of criminals either. What many don't understand is that without the government having a stream of income from a certain industry, it won't be able to spend taxes from the rest of the society that doesn't use cryptocurrencies.
It doesn't matter what kind of scam it is, scam a scam and will be dealt with. I don't know if you actually read the article, but it's not the Serbia that will prosecute Antonio Sojiljkovic &Co but United States. Serbia arrested him back in July 2021 and few days ago, on February 4th 2021 he was extradited to Texas, where majority of victims are from and where he will be trialed.

From the "investors" point of view, this should have been a warning

Quote
The platforms also offered an 80 percent average payout and a 20 percent refund on lost trade.
From what its written in the article they used pretty much basic scamming techniques like luring potential investors in with fake female profiles and offering 50% discount when buying BTC. That answers to those that still think none falls for pretty obvious scams, not knowing how ignorant and greedy people are, especially when it comes to cryptocurrencies.
5017  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bounty hunters, report spam to receive higher bounties on: February 08, 2021, 08:33:30 AM
Problem here is that majority of altcoin bounty hunters are shitposters themselves and since they don't even bother about quality of their own posts somehow I doubt that they will bother to report other shitposters. It is also questionable whether they can recognize a shitpost when they see it and even if few posts get deleted, bounty hunter will just churn out few more.

I do agree that people should report shitposts more often, but I am not so sure that people you mention care enough in order to do that.

It's quite surprising to me projects choosing the worst bounty managers who aren't aware of their responsibility. We reputed managers not getting many works nowadays.
They don't really know much about the forum and they are just looking for the cheapest option and that included manager who will accept their useless altcoins that one day might have some value and that's something that no reputable manager will accept (I guess).
5018  Economy / Reputation / Re: [LIST] ANN threads that are using bumping services on: February 07, 2021, 09:29:11 PM
Obvious case of thread shilling, both threads have been added to the list. Thanks for reporting!

[ANN] WorldToken — a unique platform that combines the best tokenomics of curren[/b] - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5312779.0
I wonder how they persuade customers to check it and even pay for it, because I don't think so many project owners know that they are ordering "cheating service".
They probably told them that everyone is doing that and that there is nothing wrong with it, and majority of those that hire them have no clue about bitcointalk and that same service is ready to promote an obvious scam. By the way, I've added  both of those threads that you mentioned, but also don't forget to report them spam when you see it.
5019  Other / Meta / Re: Why not create a white list on the forum for receiving PM? on: February 07, 2021, 04:47:02 PM
Do you really receive so many unsolicited PMs that something so drastic is needed? And is that hard to just ignore/delete/report them?

I personally don't like your suggestion at all as I often contact people via PM and some of them don't have me on their trust list (and some don't even bother with that feature) meaning that one important channel of communication would disappear for so many people, especially for genuine users who might need help.
5020  Other / Meta / Re: Request for Nigeria local board on: February 07, 2021, 03:57:32 PM
Considering how popular bitcoin is in Nigeria despite not so friendly government I am glad to see that you decided to ask for your own local board and it's an important first step but I think that you will have to increase your activity in Nigerian Bitcointalk Community Hangout in order to have real chances of getting your own board. Since you have many members that are active in English part of the forum, that shouldn't be an issue, you just have to encourage them to be more active there so you show forum staff that there is a real need for local board and that you "outgrown" the thread started by @CryptopreneurBrainboss.

I wanted to support most active communities without local boards so I included them (starting from October 2020) in monthly overview of the local boards activity so you can see how Nigerian thread stands compared to others.

I don't think there should be strict restrictions on what languages are allowed. Communication is key and if the community understands Common English (UK or US) as well as Pidgin English, then any of them can be used to discuss on a Nigerian board. The Indian local is run primarily using the English language, which is one of their national languages.
As explained to me by one Indian member, reason why Indians use English language in their board is very simple: they have 22 official languages and it would lead to chaos if they start opening sub boards for each of them. Using English is more elegant solution, but that also probably discourages some from being active there.
