I do have the LED indicator that is red when it's mining.  But no beeps at all.
Well... I think that is the idea of the miner LED indicator which is only illuminating continuously when it is doing the tasks the miner software tells it to do. I am sure the miner LED indicator is off when it is not doing anything, e.g. you just power cycle it and reconnect USB cable without running the miner software. I am not sure how it is with CGMiner, but I would assume that the miner LED indicator is off as well when CGMiner considers it to be dead or zombie (I am not really comfortable using this term, reminds me of World War Z and I don't really know what I would do if such virus existed in reality).

The LED indicator does go off when it is goes into zombie mode, as it is not mining.   So yes that is true.

But my units don't make a audible sound like some mention on beeping during this same state.  So I'm curious about the beep, also which is newer the one's with or without beep.
5043  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: October 23, 2015, 07:41:11 PM
L1's would have been amazing to own and would have sold well.

I still think the same as far as selling.  I was counting on it coming out, after it didn't I just never found another rig to replace my A2 I sold.

I think likely they figured out for the money they would make more off BTC gear then LTC in their data centers.  But I'm just speculating.  I still think there is likely a datacenter of these SF100's.

Has anyone heard anything from the company at all?  Do they still anwser emails?
5044  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Very new to mining, I could use some technical advice/help on rig construction on: October 23, 2015, 07:35:14 PM
I am currently attending a vocational school for computer information systems, and for my senior project this year I elected to do a project on Bitcoin. Did very well on my paper but now that I have to build an actual rig, I've run into a bit of a problem I was hoping someone could help me with. I have a general understanding of how mining rigs are constructed and how they operate, but every page on the internet I've found describes how to build the most efficient and up-to-date mining rig possible, often including a very expensive parts list. For my project my rig doesn't even need to be financially viable, it just needs to function on some level. Because I'm paying for everything myself, I'm just wondering what would be one of the cheapest ways to build a (functioning) bitcoin mining rig? Not looking for anyone to hold my hand through the process, just maybe an idea or two on how I could go about this.

Thanks,
   -Joe

You really cannot truly construct a mining rig.  It's more plug an play. (unless you are a engineer).  Sidehack is right about CIS likely not covering asic rig construction.

If all depends on how serious this project is.  If you can use a RPI and a usb stick and get credit... yes you can do it.  But if building from bottom up not really.  Are you able to share more specifics of project and what it's graded on?
5045  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining dead ? on: October 23, 2015, 07:30:36 PM
In my opinion, Mining bitcoin? yes it is dead unless you are a millionaire want to find something interesting to do in your free time by buying some huge machines for mining bitcoin. However mining altcoin is not dead yet and it will never be. There are a bunch of new coin everyday try to mine some and be the first one to dump it. This way you will be the winner. On the other hand, If you don't really want to mine alternate coin, try to sell contracts or get some customers on miningrentals... You may able to get some easily I think

Alt coin mining is a hard game so much puump/dump.   I also think less people rent MRR then they use to.  A lot tend to use nicehash which pay is low a lot of the time.

You need to look into BTC mining more.   It is far from dead, and only dead if high electricity or high vat.
5046  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 6 Vs Antminer S7, which one you will choose? on: October 23, 2015, 07:28:03 PM
sorry guys, on avalon6S, my major design goal is to lower the cost and keep it stable & reliable at the same time.

look, most of your attention is price, price, price. how can i waste any more cents on user expreiences?  Undecided

ng

Only some few ones shout price price price.

Look, there are 3 pages following mentioned "price " dozens of times. So I'm right. Grin

The picture you got is a prototype. Final product will be natural steel color, not painted.

About noise, I just did a short test in my lab. It's ~70db @ 1M, full fan speed (~3800rpm), include
a noisy server PSU. Air in-take temp is ~ 30C, board temp is ~ 72C. Will significantly lower the
noise by lower the fan rpm, but the ambient temperature should be low.

In this design, I leave the fan out of the case, in order to change the fan fast. This is a very important feature for large facilities.

About price and delivery plan, I will not announce business information here. But I think there will no long wait.

Hmm 70db is pretty loud, but the fan can be changed? Is it a dual fan system or can I do a push and pull system to lower noise?

It sounds like you can but you should have a low ambient.  It looks like they put a goo amount of hashing into this machine.

So likely we will have to have someone play with one and let us know how it handles low RPM in certain ambiant temps.
5047  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cloud mining, can it still pay out? on: October 23, 2015, 10:42:02 AM
To be honest too...
people never believe me...

It's not meant to be personal I just saw go from stories to you lost... does not fit right unless a typo.  You could prove me wrong and tell what cloud mining sites your using, a screenshot with it showing how much you have.  But I don't see that coming.

Just like you you made it sound big moving to hardware... and it's a U2.  Which nothing is wrong with mining with a U2, just seemed when you talked about losing money so want hardware... sounded like bigger operation.

And I could be reading it wrong, and others see it different.  Either way best of luck.
5048  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What is the most profitable asic miner? on: October 23, 2015, 10:36:09 AM
Currently own 5 S5s and a single SP20.

Cleaned out Amazon a while back, except for an attempted purchace from HolyBitCoin that never went through (the canceled it on THEIR end, and a week later were listing at least one S5 for quite a bit more - but they also never charged my card, so no real foul just irritating).

I've had too many issues with stuff bought on eBay to trust that site with high-dollar purchaces unless they are local, and their tendancy to FORCE you to use that ripoff Paypal company as a payment method (I was one of the original "class" from the first class action lawsuit against PayPal, and REFUSE to have anything to do with that ripoff of a company again for any reason ever) makes it very difficult at best for me to participate in ANY eBay auction.

I'm not offended by "value" opinions that vary from mine.
I probably tend to be pretty far towards the "pessimistic" or "conservative" estimate end of the scale here on future Bitcoin pricing and probable future diff increases.

I've also been burnt by bad estimates on RoI calculations when I was more optimistic about that sort of thing.

Love it or hate it Ebay is the big game in town on auctions, no one is close to it as far as US use.  Some will hat it and never use it, but this actually will cost you money.

I have sold MANY miners on ebay.  It has been really nice bump to my ROI's.    Almost always you will get more on there for a miner then on bitcointalk.  And I have only ever had 1 issue the entire time.  I had trouble once long ago in Asic Miner stick day's when another seller wanted to mess with me.
5049  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Fair Price for a Spondoolies SP20 Jackson? on: October 23, 2015, 10:30:15 AM
I would not pay more than $300 all-up for a SP20 at this time, and would be hesitant at more than $250.

Even that would depend on my geting moved VERY soon to a very cheap electric-rate location (which isn't happening as soon as I hoped).

I wish you would use actual pricing instead of " I would not pay more than".  Look at ebay lots of sales but it is going to be mid to high 300's to 400 as a general idea.

Miner's do not sell for what we wish they would sale.  They have a cetain value.  If you did the " I would not pay more than" at your prices you would have no miners.

As it happens, I haven't bought any miners for a while - as I see ZERO chance of anything current achieving RoI before the halfing and pretty much NOTHING current except perhaps the S7 for a short while will be profitable at all after tha halfing, per my current projections.

If actual pricing is higher than I am willing to pay to achieve a REASONABLE CHANCE OF ROI, that just means most of the market isn't doing projections of RoI based on what I class as reasonable projections, or possibly some folks have a TON better electric rates than I have - or the most likely cause, inertia leading to failure to adjust pricing to what is really fair by current standards.

There is nothing new about "market pricing" being higher than reasonable. or price adjustments being slow to respond to external changes, or a market going with "optimism for the future" instead of paying attention to current conditions.
Try watching the Dow Jones over the last 5 years - crazy high levels of stock price increases while the economy as a whole is barely recovering from the Great Recession and most corporations are NOT actually doing all that much better overall.

Mining right now is lower profit than it pretty much has ever been, BTC pricing has been edging up lately but NOT enough to match recent difficulty increases - and the only reason diff increases haven't been higher for the last month I suspect to be the shipping delays BitMain has been having on the already-sold S7s.

Your opinion may vary. Do not fold, spindle, or mutilate. etc.

With your current pricing in mind I don't think your purchasing  will change in the near future.  I don't see miners fitting in your ROI very often with current prices on rigs.

I think we have greatly different way's to obtain what value of miners.   I like market vs should be priced.  If it was should be I would have a bunch more S7's.  But they did not meet my ROI for largscale so I did not go crazy.

So I guess we look at most of it different but have a little common ground.
5050  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: October 23, 2015, 10:22:47 AM
I do not think reward halving will have impact on S7 price. Tooo much time until that...

I would have to agree with you on that one to an extent.  That's the only thing I could come up with for the price reduction between batch 1 and batch 3.

I think the key is it will not yet.  But once we hit say 6 month's, then 3 months etc no doubt it will effect it.   With less reward people would not spend as much.

But we really don't know a lot of what will happen at having we need to know to determine miners price.  BTC price at having will effect miners price greatly, and no one can tell us what that will be currently..

I guess theres nothing we can do about it cleaned my Laptop of Xunlei and Badu reinstalled Windows hopefully I be safe. Shit cant beleive a ll bitcoin gone FFS.

Sorry to see they were lost for good. That is never a good feeling.  This thread is the example why it's so important on safe wallets a storage that is normally first page anymore.

both my wallets on my android phone 2.58187103  *snip

Phones should not be considered a secure device or used to keep more then a little spending money. They are just a security risk.  Cold storage is ofcourse best.  But phones are pretty bad to use as a wallet for any sizable amount.

After all my scams stories i have prefered to lose my cash by buying a miner.

This is the key here after all the stories you have heard.  It sounds like you have not cloud mined.... yet giving long winded advice?

Some are legit there are many scams though.  I have earned money an I have lost money in cloud mining.  Mine if first hand no "story" that it's based on.  The ROI is fun... it gets addictive when you think you are doing good.  I got burned on GAW miner was so my only mistake... and  i knew going in it was riskier but I invested... i lost some.

Now i have my own things I research before I ever invest in cloud.  First I start off with is solid proof of having mining hardware that get's of most of the scams. (there is a list in thread already but that is first one)

And again before any one invests in anything research it.  Don't go in blind.  Also don't let me push you into investing or not investing.  As I have said many times I make 0 if you choose bit-x or do not invest.  So I'm not trying to stir up sales.

But back to my snip you really need to do it before you give good advice.  Basing off stories you have read.... you just are missing so much first hand knowledge.

It's not about stories I have heard...it's about MY stories about cloudmining...so far i have only lost...
yes only lost or not yet earned.

It is why i have decided to run my own cloudmining site and future will tell us.
Ok you will all say it is impossible...with an U2
I belive it is possible (lol)

You said stories.  What cloud site did you us? As I will be honest I'm not sure I believe you.

You kinda make yourself sound bigger in posts taking your investment into hardware, then you say U2.  I don't think you have the background to be honest to throw out some blanket advice earlier in thread.  Sure everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but you really need to have a lot of experience with something to give good advice.

B2 and B3 sold out

Waited longer the I thought they would since:

AntMiner S7 BATCH 2/3 - Shipping may start between Oct. 15 ~ 25 (if shipped out 10 days later than it, it won't be considered as delay ).

And friday around 5 PM right now in China so they really did wait till like very last minute with weekend to stop sells on those batches.
5054  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the safest way to store Bitcoins? on: October 23, 2015, 08:52:00 AM
Paper Wallets stored in a locked vault? and with another copy in a different place in a vault too?

If you have one with a large holding it is smart to have a copy in a bank security box.  Say tornado or natural disaster the bank vault is still there where a home (unless safe room) might not be.

Home concealed where no one finds or safe is good if you get fire safe as you have one that is resistant to fire.  Everyone thinks different on this.

5056  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the best Cloud mining Site? on: October 23, 2015, 07:24:41 AM
Cloudmining was never profitable. I have some small investments in different sites for almost two years now but never did i make money. High maintenance fees and mining difficulty eats up your payouts plus almost all cloudmining sites turned to scam later on. Just hold on to your coins Smiley

did you sell your hashpower at some point? because as it is right now, cloud mining is not about sitting there and waiting for roi

it is now very similar to trading, you need to sell your hash after some time to have  aquick roi, and buy again when the price fall, repeat

Hashnest the ones who pre-ordered or bought first S7's they went up value about 2 BTC once they were out.... a few got that deal.  That is a insane ROI that quick.

I admit I was not in on it and wish I would have been.  But amph is right depending on when you sell there is possible to make quick roi.  It all changes there is not a easy guide to ROI quick, it can be luck or great strategy or a mix of the two.

Others are more in the long haul.  Mine with it for a while and at some point sell.  It just all depends.

I'm brand new to all this bitcoin stuff and would love some directions to make a few dollars, like, when to buy and sell and which wallet to choose for my Android phone?

Thank you!  Wink

There is already a thread about android wallets:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1208153.0

For earning bitcoin, just check my signature...

A android phone is a hot wallet.  Be careful and don't put more then some spending money on it.  You don't want it as your main wallet.

Look into cold wallets.  You want to learn about it.  If you hold a lot it is very important.

Hi, newbiez, pros, advanced  Grin

I need coin.

Can do whatever you need.
Internet, forums, whatever things.

Please sir, write me or PM.

Waiting for work

I think you are missing some of the great things about the forum.  Really you should look at some of the other threads about this.  There are quite a few and have lots of very good info.

To ask to write it or PM you it all would literally be a huge task.   And robs you from learning to be honest.  Part of it reading will get you is finding what you enjoy, what you enjoy makes a massive difference on it all to be honest.
5060  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cloud mining, can it still pay out? on: October 23, 2015, 07:02:25 AM

It's getting a little away from cloud mining, but I guess some of these ideas do kinda crossover.

I have a set amount I want to be invested in.  I don't believe in going deeper and deeper in debt in chance of ROI.  I either make ROI or I don't.  And hopefully there is ROI/Profit on my investments.  If you wait on X price (which I admit I have done if price is horrible but as a general rule don't like).  If I did this I would have been KILLED from day's of when BTC was worth double or more then it is today.

Going through something like when btc went from thousand or so to a ton less luckily did not kill me as I had ROI'ed on my holdings.  If I held saying Ohhh if i get X more to pay the costs I do better, the drop like that would have crushed my investment.  I think you had to go through this to see how things can go wrong.

Its the same as cloud mining, if the cloud mining is legit, if its a ponzi then thats another story.

Because the cloud miner if he is really mining, he has to do the same calculations as you do by solo mining.

The only difference is that if he is selling a tradeable instrument, then its additional risk of price movement of that instrument.

Not really there are a few different cloud mining way's to do it.  Do you do much cloud mining?

Big thing is some you can buy the equipment and it runs in cloud.  You own the equipment, at end you can sell it.  Other you own hashing speed so you don't own a machine.   You can sell hashing speed, but you will not be able to sell a machine.

I see those as 2 massively different types of cloud mining.  Each has different strategy.  And home/hobby mining is a different topic completely.  You directly are responsible for electricity you can pay it with cash, cash out btc to pay, not cash out, etc.  Cloud mining it's going to take those fee's out of it no matter what in BTC.

Also dealing with a lot of miners... it becomes something much different then looking at a screen and no gear.  They both have their own pros/cons.  But they are not the same in many ways.
